22-year-old Ghanaian lady identified as Anita Otema (pictured above) has lost her left eye and parts of her body badly disfigured after her ex-boyfriend attacked her with acid at her Abeka Lapaz residence in Ghana following his pastor’s revelation that she was behind his constant ill-health.
Narrating what happened to Ghana’s Joyfm, Anita said her 28 year old ex-boyfriend Kwabena Fosu popularly known as Abodeman attacked her in the night at their home with the corrosive substance after his pastor accused her of being behind his recurring ill-health and told him she (Anita) was making money spiritually through his illnesses.

After her boyfriend was told this by the Pastor, he stormed their house where they both lived as a couple and poured the acid on her. He has been on the run since the incident

Press statement from INEC ahead of Saturday Gubernatorial elections..
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received reports that some political leaders are asking members of the public to disregard its stated resolve to use Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and Smart Card Readers (SCRs) for the April 11, 2015Governorship and State Assembly elections.

A particular state governor in the North Central geo-political zone is reported to have assured voters in the state that they could come out to vote on Election Day with Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs) if they do not have the PVC, and that INEC will not be allowed to insist on the use of SCRs for voter accreditation.

Members of the public are strongly advised to disregard false assurances that contradict the regulations INEC has outlined for the Governorship and State Assembly elections. The Commission reaffirms that only voters with genuine PVCs should come out to the polling units on Election Day, and that guidelines issued on the use of SCRs for the April 11 elections will be strictly applied. Any action infringing these guidelines will be an electoral offence, and security agents will be on hand to apprehend offenders.

The Commission commends Nigerian voters for their peaceful conduct and exemplary resilience, even in the face of minor challenges, during the Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28, 2015. It, however, considers it unfortunate that some leaders would misguide the public and thereby prepare ground for needless disruptions to the polling process on April 11. INEC hereby warns that any obstruction to the processes it has put in place for the elections by any person, no matter how highly placed, will constitute an electoral offence punishable in law.

Meanwhile, the Commission has assigned the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Kogi State, Alhaji Hussaini Halilu Pai, to supervise the conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly elections in Kano State, following the tragic demise of Alhaji Minkala Abdullahi last weekend. Before his posting as FCT REC, Alhaji Pai was Ekiti State REC, who conducted the Governorship Election of June 21, 2014.

Georgia as in the country in Eurpoe and not the state in the US. Four Nigerian students, (two pictured above. The other two after the cut), were found dead in an apartment on Vazha-Pshavela Avenue in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi yesterday night Wednesday April 8th. Three of the boys were students at Tbilisi State Medical University and one at Georgia’s University.
Police are saying the boys died from gas poisoning due to a faulty water heater in their apartment.

Friends of the students were worried when they hadn’t heard from the roommates all day, which was unusual. They called police who broke into the students’ apartment and found their bodies. The bodies have been taken to the National Forensic Bureau.
Friends of the victims, who are Nigerians, say they want a proper investigation into what happened. They also wanted the Nigerian public to be aware of this incident so reached out to LIB. Will bring updates on this. May their souls rest in peace, amen.

Unbelievable! The video of this shooting is so shocking. And all this happened because of a broken tail light. The moment a white police officer in North Charleston, South Carolina shot a fleeing unarmed black man five times in the back then handcuffed his lifeless body after he crumpled on the ground has been captured on tape. The video, shot by a pedestrian, was sent to the New York Times.
Police officer Michael Slager, 33, opened fire on father-of-four Walter Scott, 50, on Saturday morning April 4th after stopping him over a broken tail light. The police officer was arrested yesterday April 7th after the video was seen by police. He had initially claimed he shot Scott because he feared for his life, but the video shows Scott actually fleeing from him. The officer shot 8 times, three missed Scott, a Coast Guard veteran. Keith Summey, the mayor of North Charleston, termed the killing a ‘bad decision’ at a press conference announcing the charges.
“When you’re wrong, you’re wrong. When you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or a citizen on the street, you have to live with that decision.’
On Monday, the police officer’s lawyer issued a statement putting across Slager’s version of events. He said the officer ‘felt threatened and reached for his department-issued firearm and fired his weapon. “Officer Slager believes he followed all the proper procedures and policies of the North Charleston Police Department’.
But after seeing the shooting tape yesterday, the lawyer said he was no longer representing Slager



Under South Carolina law, Slager could be eligible for the death penalty if convicted of murder.
A lawyer for the family said that the footage shows Slager ‘casually’ taking Scott’s life, and acting as if there would be no repercussions.
Attorney L. Chris Stewart said: ‘This was a cop who felt like he could get away with just shooting anybody that many times in the back… He just casually shot a man that many times in the back. At the moment he turned and ran and was not a threat to anybody else that officer was completely unjustified.’
Stewart said the family would also pursue civil charges against Slager

US president Barack Obama a few days ago presented a Certificate of Commendation to INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, over the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28th, which they said was free and fair, credible and the best election ever held in Nigeria.
The ‘Certificate of Commendation’ was presented to Jega on behalf of the US government by US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle. Entwistle said Jega’s performance with the election was ‘outstanding and worthy of emulation.’
But yesterday, Federal Commissioner for Information and South South leader, Chief Edwin Clark condemned the award, saying it was too hasty since the Governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections haven’t even held. He told the US to leave Nigeria alone…
“I was surprised that Barack Obama gave Professor Attahiru Jega an award when the elections are still on . Obama should be tactful in handling the affairs of Africa. Pope Francis has marked the second anniversary of his election by giving a hint that his time at the Vatican may be short, saying he would be ready to resign rather than ruling the Catholic Church for life, Agencies report.

The Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption, has summoned the management of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Asset Management Company of Nigeria, to appear before it over a seized asset worth N150bn.

The two federal government agencies seized the asset, in property and cash, which belonged to the erstwhile Managing Director of the defunct Oceanic Bank Plc, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, upon her conviction of bank fraud by the court of law.
