Celebrities / Tekno - Diana, My Review by Abiodun2014(m): 10:41pm On Oct 16, 2016
If there’s anybody else in the music industry whose artistry trips me so much, it has to be Tekno. The guy is using what he has to craft out the kinda stuff that we desire. His vocal skill doesn’t come in the likes of the revered but he continues to find newer ways to working his magic, which eventually makes us tick. Pana is still like the number one song that has been topping music charts for several weeks now and it seems the favourite boy is reaching to snag yet another spot on the countdown. This new release, ‘Diana’ comes from the same afro pop music repertoire that Tekno started to bless us with since finding his penchant with love-styled sounds the order likes of Duro, Wash, Where and Pana.

i can keep on writing but it would most definitely be too long here and i would be restricted with no of words to use, to continue reading see link below..

Autos / VW Emission Scandal: 2006 Powerpoint Presentation Gives More Revelations by Abiodun2014(m): 5:15pm On May 07, 2016
Contrary to claims of innocence by the Volkswagen AG’s management, further investigation has revealed installation of software to cheat emission test was done on Volkswagen vehicles in the United States with possible approval of the company’s management.
This new finding is evident in a discovered PowerPoint presentation with which, 2006, a senior technology executive demonstrated to the management how the company could easily defeat the US emission test.

As found out by New York Times, Volkswagen AG’s management was aware of the installation of the defeat software in the affected VW models. Before 2006, the company was a bit worried as to how expensive its vehicles would become if they were made to comply with the US emission standard, which is more stringent than that of Europe. The company was said to be more worried, because it might not be able to compete favourably in terms of price with the likes of Toyota and Honda. Sometimes in 2006, therefore, the said senior technology executive presented to the management a way out, using a power point presentation, a copy of which NY Time has got hold of.

The new discovery might lead to more serious criminal investigation and fines running into billions of dollars. As at penultimate week, VW was said to have set aside a sum of $18 billion to cover costs of recalls, fines and legal claims. Also as a first step towards what is described as a broader settlement under negotiation, the automaker has also agreed to fix or buy back half a million units of vehicles sold into the US market.

It would be recalled that late last year, the company confessed it installed emission defeat software in not less than 11 million vehicles it already produced and sold. The management, being in the know of the deceptive act by the company’s technology expert, must have underrated the consequence of being caught.

Autos / FRSC, ICPC Partner To Rid Nigeria Of Fake Driver’s Licences by Abiodun2014(m): 5:06pm On May 07, 2016
In an effort to rid the country of fake licences and sanitize the issuance of National Driver’s Licence system, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) have agreed to work together.

This agreement was reached during a meeting between the Chairman, ICPC, Mr Ekpo Nta and the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi when the latter paid a courtesy call to the former in his office penultimate week.

Mr Ekpo praised FRSC for its initiative in reforming the licences system of the country, adding that, ” it would embarrass Nigeria if the driver licences issued and presented to foreign countries are discovered to be fake as a result of the reciprocity status of the country.

He said, ”this makes it important for relevant stakeholders to work together to ensure that the integrity of the system is protected and those engaged in parallel production like touts are fished out and punished accordingly.”

According to him, the driver’s licence is also an identity document that many rely on to transact business.

” We would therefore, work together to ensure that touts in the document are identified and punished,” he emphasized.

In his response the Corps Marshal expressed his determination to leave a legacy of corrupt- free agency for the FRSC and work hard to sustain its positive image through various policies and programmes including the inauguration of FRSC Anti- Corruption Committee.

Autos / Re: How To Own Brand New Car With About N300,000 by Abiodun2014(m): 4:13pm On May 07, 2016

Autos / How To Own Brand New Car With About N300,000 by Abiodun2014(m): 1:47pm On May 07, 2016
In Nigeria of today, you can now save up as low as N250, 000, walk to a brand new car showroom and drive home a new car, popularly referred to in Nigeria as “tear rubber”. Most Nigerian auto marketers and assemblers now have what is known as auto finance scheme. This is meant to assist motorists to stop depending on other countries’ junks and rejects, known as tokunbo for their auto transport need. You can now go straight for a brand new vehicle.

How does it work?
lead photoIf you are someone, who has regular source of income, working with government, private sector or self employed and can afford at least N50,000 monthly payment, then you can shun Tokunbo and be a brand new car owner. Afterall, cheapest Tokunbo car costs almost N1,000,000. And when it arrives, a mechanic would have to remove its thermostat and get its fan(s) working continuously as a way of tropicalising it. You may even have to replace certain parts. You may have to do some body works.

All these and stress that may follow could be avoided by walking to a showroom of a Nigerian assembled vehicle, pay a deposit of as low as N250,000 and above, drive home a brand new car and spread the remaining payment over a period of 3-5 years, depending on your ability. That is a facility that citizens of advanced nations enjoy. It is now on your doorstep. Most imported used cars were originally bought this way and when the owner gets fed up due to surging maintenance cost, which could b very high over there, he or she disposes it off. But now you can be first owner of your own car.

Rather than go for a Tokunbo car of N2.5 million, why not deposit that towards brand new similar car made in Nigeria and cruise around in brand new car. More so, by so doing, you will be part of solution to unemployment problem in Nigeria. When you buy imported vehicles, you are sustaining employment in other countries. But when you buy a car assembled by Nigerian workers in Nigerian assembly plant, you are indirectly putting foods on the tables of a number of families in Nigeria. You are being patriotic. You are following example of members of Nigerian House of representatives, who this year decided to acquire locally assembled Peugeot cars as their official cars.

You would not be like the nation’s unpatriotic senators, who despite public outcry, egoistically went ahead to acquire for themselves imported cars, equivalent of which are assembled locally by Nigerian employees. They do not care. But I believe you care about your nation, your children, our future generation. Buy Locally made automobile and auto-related products today. Shun imported ones, equivalent of which are made locally. Then, in your own little way, you have become part of solution and not problem of the nation, Nigeria.

You can buy a locally assembled 1.4 litre sedan for N2.5 million. It will come with most comfort and safety features, including air-conditioning, airbags, infotainment, etc. Simply deposit about N250,000, drive home a brand new car and subsequently make monthly payment, which could be as low as N50000 monthly for as long as it takes to balance up.

Locally assemblers/marketers of such brands as Kia, Nissan, Hyundai, Peugeot now have such offers for Nigerians. Latest was an easy-pay auto purchase scheme launched last week by Globe Motors in collaboration with Stanbic IBTC. From Globe Motors and marketers of Peugeot, Kia, Hyundai, Ford, Nissan, etc, a motorist can now acquire their cars without stress by spreading the payment over a period of time.

“Rather than go for a Tokunbo car of N2.5 million, why not deposit that towards brand new similar car made in Nigeria and cruise around in brand new car. More so, by so doing, you will be part of solution to unemployment problem in Nigeria. When you buy imported vehicles, you are sustaining employment in other countries. But when you buy a car assembled by Nigerian workers in Nigerian assembly plant, you are indirectly putting foods on the tables of a number of families in Nigeria…”

Autos / Reaction Of Nigerian Automakers To Imported Vehicles By The Nigerian Senate by Abiodun2014(m): 1:38pm On May 07, 2016
Full text of statement by the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association(NAMA) in reaction to N3.9b Senate vehicle imports during a press briefing held at the Golden Tulip, Festac Town, Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday 28th April 2016.

Successive governments in Nigeria have been battling to move our economy forward, employing different strategies and ploys to energize our docile state and create value to sustain a decent livelihood for the present and future generations of Nigerians.

As far back as 1993, the national Automotive Policy was launched to midwife the revival, development and growth of the Nigerian Automotive Industry, using local human and material resources.

In October 2013, the then government re-launched the policy under its National Automotive Industry development Plan (NAIDP). This was partly in recognition of the strategic and catalytic role many countries world over have confirmed the automobile industry plays in National Economic Development and sustenance.

The other reason derived from the necessity to diversify our mono-product economy. The mainstay of our economy has been export of crude petroleum.

quoteThe crash of the global oil market directly translated into a drop in revenue accruing to the federal government. Given the huge multi-layered public service we operate, one of the casualties of the oil price crash is the payroll of the public officers.
Many states have been unable to pay salaries, and thousands of government suppliers cannot be paid for goods or services already supplied.

In the same vein, the development of infrastructure has ground to a painful halt, and the common man is groaning under an inflationary burden that is constantly under-estimated.

It is no surprise, therefore, that the Buhari/Osinbajo government has been looking for ways to diversify the economy and develop other sectors to reduce dependence on oil revenues.

News circulated months back that the Upper Legislative Chamber was planning to procure vehicles for its members. Attention was drawn to the preference for imported fully built SUVs. The figures being brandished were mind-bugling. The attention of the budding local assembly industry was drawn to what could be a catalyst for its burgeoning take-off.

Members of the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association (NAMA) were encouraged to submit their tenders and stake their claim and qualification to supply the senate with locally assembled vehicles that meet their specification. (One wonders if the specs were drawn up based on the demands of their functions or their perceived status).

About that time, the news that the upper chamber had settled for an SUV for N36.5million apiece, set to cost the government a whopping N3.9 billion was in the air. The executive arm of government expressed its disapproval for this move, urging the senate to be sensitive to the tough economic environment and requesting for a re-think to a more moderate option. The feedback from the senate was that of anger, claiming the executive had no authority to dictate what the legislative arm should appropriate for itself.

The question of who controls the excesses of the legislative arm of government continues to linger.

Believing in the patriotic spirit of our elected senators, NAMA members submitted tenders to provide the senate as well as the House of Representatives with vehicles assembled in Nigeria by Nigerians to globally accepted standards.

It was a rude shock to learn of the decision of the senate to procure imported fully built SUVs, when much more affordable locally assembled alternatives were offered. We listened to the pathetic explanation of the Senate House Services Committee Chair and were filled with nothing but pity for the country. The insensitivity of an elected body could not have been so clearly displayed, when you consider:

• The senate could have saved suffering Nigerians 40% of the eventual outlay by being patriotic and promoting vehicles assembled by extremely talented and diligent Nigerian workforce.

• The senate would have secured the continuous employment of about 4000 Nigerians for a whole year by supporting local industry. The Patronage alone may be enough to ensure its successful take-off.

• The senate would have supported about 50 component manufacturers that supply the auto industry and help create a value chain that typically impacts no less than four other sectors of the Nigerian economy.

• Had the senate not decided to starve the local industry of patronage, it would have helped grow and sustain at least 50 medium scale enterprises whose future revenue streams would flow into our corporate and personal taxation system, helping to sustain the government revenue base.

The senate has by this self-centered decision held down the automotive industry for at least four years. A pity indeed.

To attain the current state of the auto manufacturing industry, investors who believe in the future of the country and its people have put at risk resources that could have been deployed elsewhere in a globally competitive market. The future of this entity as a viable economic unit is threatened, when state resources that could be deployed to create jobs for our youths, add value to our naturally occurring material base are frittered to oil the ego of but a few. It is for reasons like this that Nigerian businessmen have enormous difficulty in convincing global OEMs to see Nigeria as an investment destination. Nigerians that undertake to fund these investments are being stabbed in the back daily by unscrupulous non-value adding importers and compromised government functionaries.

The senate may not be aware of an official circular from the office of the secretary to the Government mandating ALL government agencies to procure locally made vehicles and to procure imported vehicles only if locally assembled equivalents are not available. The Bureau of Public Procurement may wish to beam its light on the senate to determine that it does not put itself outside the ambit of their control. The senate seems to be governed only by its own rules.

We applaud the leadership of the House of Representatives, who embraced the cause to develop this nation by supporting its industries, who put aside personal aggrandizement at a tough time like this to procure locally assembled sedan vehicles. They have by this action identified with the suffering of their brothers and their families. Locally assembled Peugeot cars will roll out of the Kaduna plant over the next four months to the waiting hands of the peoples representatives. Hundreds more people will be employed and trained. Local suppliers will be engaged round the clock. They in turn will employ support staffs to carry out various sub-contract jobs and from there maintain their families. Value added to our steel products, rubber extracts, glass sheets and plastics from our petrochemical plants will flourish.

All our industry needs is that trigger. From there, we will acquire the capacity to expand our facilities and produce more units at lower prices, moving gradually towards global competitiveness and self-sustainability. All thanks to supporters of local industry like the lower house. Also Ben Murray Bruce.

Unsurprisingly, many genuine patriots have condemned the move by the senate. The following was credited to the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba:

“We consider appalling, insensitive and greedy the decision of the senate to acquire 108 Toyota Land Cruiser Jeeps (one for each member, less the senate president) after collecting car loans in August last year for the same purpose.

“It is equally morally despicable and shameful that they are doing this after publicly admitting that the standing committees of the senate are unable to perform their statutory functions due to paucity of funds.

“We at the Nigeria Labour Congress equally consider it a willful and grievous criminal act the inflation of the unit cost of each of the cars by over a 100 per cent, as each car supposedly cost N35.1 million instead of N17 million.”

The youths have staged demonstrations to express their disgust and gone further to demand a withdrawal of the exorbitant imported vehicles.

To whom much is given, much is expected. The people must now demand inclusive legislative action of the senate. They need to know what progressive thinking the distinguished members have to grow our industrial base and create jobs for our people, what strategies they have to formulating laws that would make our economic space more welcoming to investors and what plans they hope to put in place to creating a stable industrial environment.

The public needs to let our elected representatives to the upper legislative chamber know that it can no longer be business as usual; that they are answerable to the people.

“We applaud the leadership of the House of Representatives, who embraced the cause to develop this nation by supporting its industries, who put aside personal aggrandizement at a tough time like this to procure locally assembled sedan vehicles. Value added to our steel products, rubber extracts, glass sheets and plastics from our petrochemical plants will flourish…” – NAMA

Autos / Taliban’s Bomb Victim Who Received RAV4 From Toyota by Abiodun2014(m): 9:23pm On Apr 15, 2016
An army Sergeant, who lost his leg, following an IED explosion, while serving at Afghanistan, was recently honoured by Toyota and given a specially adapted RAV 4. He narrated his horrific experience of the day the bomb went off and he realized he couldn’t stand up any more, as his foot was no more.

Army Sergeant First Class Jeffrey Hackett knew the house he and his fellow soldiers were trying to clear on Aug. 15, 2011, in Afghanistan could be occupied by the Taliban and armed with improvised explosive devices. He knew exactly what the wire sticking out of the ground meant and immediately turned around, but it was too late.

“The IED went off and the explosion threw me and then I hit the ground,” Hackett remembers. “At this point I thought I was just knocked down, pulled down my vest off my face attempted to get up, but I could not.”

Hackett lost his right leg and suffered serious injuries all over his body due to the blast. He was later diagnosed with PTSD. With help from his family and community, Hackett got back up.

Toyota and the New York International Auto Show joined forces to celebrate and honor Hackett, of Mexico, N.Y. On Saturday, March 26, Toyota donated a 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to Hackett during the auto show’s opening ceremony, which was staged at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo presented Hackett with his new keys.

The Bussani Mobility Team of Bethpage, N.Y., outfitted Hackett’s new ride with a special steering controls as well as pedals that can all be used with a left foot. Toyota Financial Services also provided Hackett with its Platinum Toyota Extra Care Vehicle Service Agreement, which expands coverage for his RAV4 Hybrid for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles.

Also present during the auto show ceremony was another war hero, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who had worked extensively with Toyota and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on the Hiring Our Heroes program.

“Sgt. First Class Hackett and his family embody service and sacrifice and determination,” said Toyota Vehicle Operations Manager Jason Keller. “We are thankful for the service and sacrifice of veterans like him.”

“It is a great honor to work with Toyota to provide Sgt. First Class Hackett and his family with a new vehicle,” said Bob Vail, chairman of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association. “We are truly grateful for his service and for all of our soldiers and veterans who have kept us safe.”

Hackett was medically retired from the U.S. Army in August 2013 after 19 years of service, which saw him serve two tours in Afghanistan and deployments around the world in places like Haiti, Kosovo and Panama. He earned more than a dozen awards, including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Purple Heart.

The married father of three had to adjust to big changes after returning home an amputee. Living in a home not built for wheelchair use, the simplest chores turned into daunting tasks, but with help from his family, Hackett adapted and overcame obstacles.

“I let nothing stop me – if presented I will try it – and if I cannot do it the first time, I will find a way to do it,” Hackett said. “The fight is never over for veterans, regardless of the job they held during active duty. It has just begun.”

Autos / Stallion NMN Appoints ASD Motors As Nissan Dealer by Abiodun2014(m): 2:59pm On Apr 14, 2016
To cater for growing Nissan clientele in North Central Nigeria and its adjoining states, Stallion NMN, assemblers and distributors of Nissan automobiles in Nigeria, has appointed ASD Motors Nigeria Limited as independent Nissan dealer at a sign-on ceremony in Lagos.
The inauguration brings to seven the number of independent Nissan dealers appointed by Stallion NMN. They include: Gbose Automobiles Limited Ilorin – Kwara State, RealPoint West Africa Limited Warri – Delta State, Emmanuella Motors Limited Awka – Anambra State, SATA Motors Benin, Enebros Motors Uyo – Akwa Ibom State, AC Okocha Motors Asaba – Delta State.

Addressing ASD Motors’ executives including the Chairman of the Group, Alhaji Sani Dauda, the Stallion NMN Managing Director, Parvir Singh said: “the strategic appointment of dealers across the country is in line with Nissan business expansion plan to guarantee seamless access to valued Nissan products and services with provision of quality customer satisfaction.”

He enjoined the new dealer to be steadfast and embrace Nissan global vision of being “customers’ lifetime companion, while also moving closer to them to make Nissan brand customers’ preferred application.”

The West African conglomerate Stallion Group owned Nissan Motors Nigeria said ASD Motors has met the company’s prerequisite for independent dealership and can accordingly provide sales and technical support to teeming customers in Kaduna and its environs. ASD is an experienced automotive concern with significant years of experience spanning more than three decades.

The Stallion NMN director however cautioned the new dealer to constantly embrace Nissan standard of operation and ensure quality service and customer satisfaction.
Adding that “a car isn’t just a means of transportation that links people to people but a life space that occupies a central role in people’s lives,” Mr. Singh said it was time Nissan took its rightful place in the country’s automobile market.

An internationally acclaimed brand, Nissan products cut across various applications with class-leading models in the passenger car, SUV and commercial vehicle segments.

The brand has consistently made remarkable strides both in local and international markets with quality and emotional appeal as evidenced in the brand’s slogan – “Innovation that Excites.”

…Threatens to sanction Erring Petrol Stations, Motorists

While fuel scarcity persists across Nigeria, Lagos state government, from Wednesday, banned formation of second lane, when queuing for fuel at any filling station. Any motorist, who contravenes the rule, will have his or her vehicle toed away by officers of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA).
The government also threatened to sanction any erring filling stations, where the directive is flouted.

Rising from the weekly State Executive Council Meeting, the government said it could no longer tolerate the attendant traffic gridlock associated with the indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the road,

While addressing a joint press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said as much as the government empathized with the people on the difficulties they have been subjected to as a result of shortage of petroleum products, it would however not watch and allow the situation cripple the flow of traffic in the state.

Mobereola, who addressed journalists alongside the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and heads of all the government agencies involved in traffic management in the state, said the resolution of the State Government was borne out of the need to prevent the fuel shortage from degenerating into a state of anarchy.

He said: “Having empathized with the citizens, we are all aware that it is important to keep certain things in check and this is why we are addressing this press briefing in sync with the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to send a strong signal to those who do not appear to be very mindful of the law particularly in the manner in which they are administering the sale of fuel all over time.

“In essence, what we are saying is that we will no longer accept indiscriminate queues that result in blocking traffic and easy flow of movement all over the state and that wherever this happen, we would have to deal decisively with any erring filling or petrol stations according to the law”.

Giving further details, Mobereola clarified that the action of the State Government became imperative owing to the fact that the state had been almost at a standstill as a result of fuel dispensation, saying it was the responsibility of dispensing filling stations to ensure that same was managed appropriately.

On the vehicles forming more than one lane, the Commissioner said: “Let me make it very clear that we will apprehend the vehicles that are going beyond one lane in queuing up for fuel. We will tow them away, charge them and fine them appropriately.

“The truth is the ease of making traffic easy is the responsibility of everybody starting from the state, the filling stations and the users. The indiscriminate queues has been going on for too long and it must stop because the minority cannot be punishing the majority and that is the problem the state has been facing and this has to stop.

“We have all our enforcement agencies with us; we have spoken to the PPMC and DPR as well and so from tomorrow, we are stating it categorically that all dispensing filling stations must maintain one lane and any vehicle that we see that is forming the second lane or going to the exit to want to go in to the filling station will be apprehended, towed away, fined and we are going to make sure that our Mobile Courts are working and punishing any erring motorist,” Mobereola said.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Chris Olakpe reminded motorists that the fine for willful obstruction of traffic ranges from N10, 000 to N100, 000, while owners of impounded vehicles would also pay fines for towing ranging from N10, 000 to N100, 000 as the case may be.
