Politics / Igbo Youths Gives Gov., Fashola Three Days To Apologize by abproffy: 10:24pm On Aug 07, 2013
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths Congress, a pan-Igbo youth organization has given Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola three days to apologize over the deportation of 72 people to Onitsha or risk public protests or rallies.
Reacting to the deportation saga, the youths described the action of the Lagos State Government as not only reckless and insulting to the Igbo, but a clear infraction on the rights of Nigerians regardless of where they may hail from. Secretary of the group, Nonso Ozoemena, in a statement said Fashola’s action was capable of breaching the peace in the country and if mismanaged could grind the nation to a halt.

Ozoemena described as insulting, the decision of the Fashola-led government to dump the deportees at Onitsha, as interrogation of the deportees revealed that many of them were not from the South-East, how much more from Anambra State, where they were dumped. shocked

Former Chief Security Officer to late Gen. Sani Abacha, who spent about 14 years in prison, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, as revealed that he escaped several plots to kill him while he was in prison.
“Thank God, a reliable and trusted son of Tivland and my friend was officer in charge. He was directed to release me without documents in the wee hours of the night.
“As God would have it, he sought for guidance from our father and leader, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, who in turn directed him not to allow them take me away for subsequent killing."
Al-Mustapha said he would have been eliminated if not for the timely intervention of Wantaregh Paul Unongo and retired Controller of Prison, Iorbee Ihiagh.

Al-Mustapha, who was one of the powerful men in the country during the administration of late Gen Abacha, made the revelation at the weekend when he led his wife, few friends including Mohammed Abacha to pay homage to Second Republic Minister of Steel, Wataregh Paul Unongo, in his home in Jato Akaa.

Romance / Must Read: How To Tell If A Man Likes You by abproffy: 2:19am On Aug 07, 2013
Overview
In a perfect world, no one would have to guess about someone’s romantic interest. You’d know if the guy you liked were lusting over you, and you’d have the opportunity to avoid so many of the minefields that dating throws in your path. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the straightforward relationships we’d like, but that doesn't mean that clues aren't available for us to decipher. With the right information, you can decode his signals and make an educated guess about his interest level.

Step 1

Watch his body language. According to a July 2009 “Marie Claire” magazine article entitled “Four Flirting Fun Facts–With Research to Back Them Up!” by Maura Kelly, men may show their interest by telltale body language cues. For instance, he may repeatedly catch your eye from across the room. Or, even if he’s talking with someone else, he may angle his feet in your direction. Both men and women also tend to “peacock” around the people they’re interested in, so a man might stretch to expand his chest or put his hands in his front pockets to draw your eyes toward his groin.

Step 2

Politics / Drama As 21-yr-old Accused Asks Magistrate For Food by abproffy: 2:11am On Aug 07, 2013
The magistrate’s court sitting in Yaba, Lagos, yesterday, witnessed a mild drama following an outburst by one of the arraigned suspects.

The incident occurred during the hearing of a two-count felony charge brought against the suspect, Tunde Balogun (21), who instead of pleading to the charges, brought out some drugs from his pocket as he cried to the magistrate: “Please Ma, I have been on these drugs since Saturday. I am not feeling okay. I have not had anything to eat since morning. Please Ma, if you can help me, just give me something so that I can swallow these drugs.”

This prompted the magistrate to halt the session for some minutes to ascertain the health condition of the accused from the Prosecuting Officer who brought him to
court. It was then revealed that it was a strategy to distract the court session.

Celebrities / What Extremely Successful People Did During Their 20's by abproffy: 1:21am On Mar 25, 2013
Lloyd Blankfein was an unhappy lawyer.

Blankfein didn't take the typical route to finance. He actually started out as a lawyer. He got his law degree from Harvard at age 24, then took a job as an associate at law firm Donovan Leisure.

"I was as provincial as you could be, albeit from Brooklyn, the province of Brooklyn," Blankfein told William Cohen at Fortune Magazine.

At the time, he was a heavy smoker and occasional gambler. Despite the fact that he was on the partner track at the firm, he decided to switch to investment banking, joining J. Aron at the age of 27.

Jay-Z was already in the rap scene, but was 'relatively anonymous.'

Born Shawn Carter, Jay Z grew up in a housing project in Brooklyn, New York and became known as "Jay Z" at the age of 20. For the next few years he appeared alongside various other rappers, but "remained relatively anonymous" until he founded the record label Roc-A-Fella Records at the age of 27 with two other friends. The same year, Jay Z released his first album, "Reasonable Doubt."

Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook was cash positive for the first time and hit 300 million users.

Mark Zuckerberg had been hard at work on Facebook for five years by the time he hit age 25. In that year — 2009 — the company turned cash positive for the first time and hit 300 million users. He was excited at the time, but said it was just the start, writing on Facebook that "the way we think about this is that we're just getting started on our goal of connecting everyone."

The next year, he was named "Person of the Year" by Time magazine.

Literature / Professor Chinua Achebe's Biography by abproffy: 8:45pm On Mar 24, 2013
Famed writer and educator Chinua Achebe was born Albert Chinualumogu Achebe on November 16, 1930, in the Igbo town of Ogidi in eastern Nigeria. After becoming educated in English at the University of Ibadan and a subsequent teaching stint, in 1961, Achebe joined the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation as director of external broadcasting. He would serve in that position until 1966.

Prior to joining NBC, in 1958, Achebe published his first novel: Things Fall Apart. The groundbreaking novel centers on the cultural clash between native African culture and the traditional white culture of missionaries and the colonial government in place in Nigeria. An unflinching look at the discord, the book was a startling success and has become required reading in many schools across the world.

The 1960s proved to be a creatively fertile period for Achebe. It was during this decade that
he wrote the novels No Longer at Ease (1960), Arrow of God (1964) and A Man of the People (1966), all of which address the issue of traditional ways of life coming into conflict with new, often colonial, points of view. (Anthills of the Savannah [1987] took on a similar theme.)

Health / An African Celebrity Has Found The Cure For HIV. by abproffy: 2:38pm On Oct 15, 2012
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh said that
dozens of HIV/AIDS patients in the tiny West
African state have been cured using his secret
concoction of boiled herbs.
Jammeh first announced he had found a natural
remedy to cure AIDS in 2007, stirring anger among
Western medical experts who claimed he was
giving false hope to the sick.
"Who am I to expect that everybody would praise
me," Jammeh said in a state television broadcast
on Sunday evening, announcing that 68 patients
had been cured and discharged from a treatment
center.
"Just as the Prophet Mohammed prevailed and
established Islam (...)I also prevailed to cure HIV/
AIDS to the point that 68 are being discharged
today," he said.

Family / 3 Out Of 10 Nigerian Men Are Not Fathers Of Their Kids by abproffy: 4:25pm On Oct 01, 2012
Married men really need to closely watch our events play out in their homes, especially with regards to the activities of their wives (leading to pregnancy), if this latest revelation by a DNA expert in Nigeria is anything to go by.

How paternity testing is becoming an issue in Nigeria...
We have seen that there is serious need for it because in many homes things are happening that are scary both to the lives of children and their parents. And for the general statistics that is now available, it is found that three out of every ten men are not the fathers of their babies.
Similarly, three out of every ten children are not fathered by men they have seen as their biological fathers. What we have found out is that, anytime we take ten men, at least three of them eventually found that they are not the fathers of the children they call their own. And these men would have taken care of the children for all their lives.

Now, the global statistics is 100,000 out of every 300,000 men.
But what we have found that is that the situation is higher in Nigeria than other places. For example in our laboratory here, 50 per cent of the cases comes out negative. And we also realised that majority of the first-borns are affected. You only need to be here to see big men cry like little kids and watch children weep in agony. It has been that bad. And I dare say it is becoming something every home must do and you may be quite surprised at the level of dastard revelation.
About thirty per cent of fathers are unknowingly bringing up children who are not biologically theirs. And it is suspected that this percentage may be on the increase due to sexual recklessness. According to recent trends in sexual health, especially in Nigeria, it was suggested that unprotected sex and multiple partners are comparatively common occurrences with a large proportion of conceptions still unplanned. So, more than half, that is, 50 per cent of all paternity tests carried out by our lab comes out negative and the most affected are first-borns, except in a few cases.

Do these cases happen mostly in matrimonial settings or in casual relationships?
In both matrimony and casual affiliations! I tell you, we have had series of married men come here and go back home devastated. In one instance, a man came here with his wife. Out of the five children he thought were his own, he discovered that only two belonged to him. And they are both duly married, living together as husband and wife. You see, the major problem we have in our country is that most of these cases are not duly documented. So, people don’t know we have such issues among us. In fact, some even don’t know where to go for the test to determine their child or children’s paternity. And I tell you, if you go to ten homes as we speak, you will be amazed to find that in almost all of them the children there do not belong to the men. It is that rampant.

If it is that rampant, how would you describe the three years since you started testing men?
Now, the general statistics by the American Association of Blood Banks is that globally, 100, 000 out of 300, 000 men are not the actual fathers of their presumed children. And like I said earlier, the Nigerian situation is even alarming. Also, Duess International, the condom manufacturers, once noted that Nigeria has the most reckless sexual life. So, you can then imagine what the outcome would be like if we say okay, let’s start taking statistics one-by-one.

How many families do you attend to each week?
We test about 15 to 20 families. People come here as a result of various types of controversies over the paternity of certain children. You know, families have come to us with claims that a child neither takes after the mother nor the father in looks and character. So, the man of the house would be curious to ascertain facts. And when they come here with such children, the fears of the fathers have often been affirmed. Fathers usually have the doubts; maybe he has been hearing some rumours, and you know, men are often the last to hear such things about themselves. Until many of them come here to take the test, they have nurtured other men’s children before realising it.

What does it take to do a paternity test?
Technology has made it so easy. It is just like any other deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test. In less than two seconds, we take the sample from the man. We use the Helix Swabs like a “big cotton buds” to extract some cells from the man’s mouth. We rub the ‘Swab’ up-and-down the mouth to get some epithelial cells from around the cheek bone. In the nucleus of every cell, there is DNA. Once we collect that, we purify, extract and then multiply it and get the genetic profile which we then send to DNA laboratory abroad for testing.

Crime / 8yrs Old Girl Bathes Maid With Hot Water 4 Failing To Prepare Indomie On Time by abproffy: 11:53am On Sep 18, 2012
Eight-year-old girl had allegedly poured hot water
on the head, neck and back side of the 14-year-old
housemaid, whose name was given as Mary
Komule, on September 5 for not answering her in
time when she asked Mary to make her Indomie.
Acting on this information, policemen and women
attached to the Juvenile Welfare section of
Iyaganku went to the girl’s parents’ house at
Olaniran Fagbemi Street, Joyce B area of Ibadan
immediately after receiving the information but
was said to have been resisted by the girl’s mother
who reportedly told her gateman to inform the
police that she was not around.
It was further gathered that the police officers
spent close to four hours outside the gate and had
prepared to obtain a search warrant from a court
when the woman’s lawyer came around and
persuaded her to follow the law enforcement agents.
In her statement to the police at Iyaganku,
Ewaoluwa claimed that she wanted to eat Indomie
and informed the housemaid, but she was busy
cleaning the floor on which palm oil poured. The
housemaid, Mary, had reportedly put some water
on the fire to further clean the floor when she
noticed the floor was still slippery.
Angered by the fact that her request was not
promptly attended to, the little girl had reportedly
ordered Mary to kneel down and put her hands
behind her back, after which she tied them with a
scarf. She was said to have claimed that she first
poured cold water on the housemaid but when she
saw that the teenager did not feel any pain, she took
the water the maid was boiling on the fire and
poured it on the helpless girl, right from the head to
the back of her neck.

Health / Photo: Woman Gives Birth To A Baby With Two Heads by abproffy: 7:48am On Sep 18, 2012
Woman Gives Birth To a Baby With Two Heads
A woman in India gave birth to a healthy child with
two heads and necks in a private hospital in
Muktsar, Punjab, after a major operation last week
Tuesday.
The new-born male baby is under observation in
the intensive care unit of the hospital where the
condition of the child is stated to be critical.
Doctors said that if the baby survives for 24 hours,
then he can be referred to a bigger institution for
further treatment.
“The baby born with two heads and necks is a full
term male baby. He is active and healthy now. The
weight of baby at the time of birth is 3.1 kg. At the
time of birth, the baby was not crying which is
mandatory. But after treatment, he cried. The baby
was shifted to the nursery in my hospital where he
is being kept on oxygen and fluid. He is surviving
well”, said Dr Rajendra Bansal, a child specialist.

Family / Photo; Woman Delivers Horse In A Nigerian Church by abproffy: 12:17am On Sep 14, 2012
The unexpected happened on Monday, at the
World Liberation Ministry on the old Sapele-Benin
Expressway, Edo State, as a woman delivered a
horse-like baby during a church service.
It was gathered that the worshipers who could not
believe their eyes after the yet to be identified
woman was delivered of the strange creature, took
to their heels.
Speaking to newsmen, General Overseer of the
church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, said the incident
was unprecedented in the church, as he had at the
prophetic service, received a divine revelation that
there was a woman whose womb was being blocked
by some supernatural forces.
He said as he and other church members
intensified their prayers, the woman started
screaming and after, the horse-like baby was
delivered of her but it died some minutes later.
“I cannot describe the object. We have seen people
that vomited strange things during church service
but not such type of thing. God has been blessing
our ministry with prophesies and miracles,”
Evangelist Silva said.
