Concerned Nigerians for the protection of Human Rights and Rule of Law Initiative has condemned petitions by supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate to ban dissenting voices.

The group, in a statement by its spokesperson, Theophilus Agada, berated the supporters of Obi for calling on social media platforms to ban Reno Omokri, Omoyele Sowore, Deji Adeyanju, Sega Awosanya and other opposition voices in the country.

The statement reads partly, “It is the duty of big tech companies to moderate content that could lead to violence or illegal activity and not individuals writing petitions against opposition voices they consider as threats to their political agenda.

“The attempt by Peter Obi’s supporters to stifle free speech is anti-democratic and should be condemned by all and sundry.

“Free speech is one of the building blocks of every democratic society and as a group, we call on Obi’s supporters to stop threatening people who are indifferent about the candidacy of Mr. Peter Obi,” it said.

The group maintained that the Nigerian Constitution protects the right to free speech and freedom of association.

The statement further reads, “Incidental to these constitutional guaranteed rights is the right to support or oppose a candidate in any election.

“To hold otherwise, as Peter Obi supporters seek to do, will only take us back to the dark days of military regimes where free speech was criminalised and freedom of assocation was subject to the whims and caprice of the military dictator.

“May that day never return where dissenting voices will be deplatformed simply for having dissenting opinions,” it said.




The group, however, called on those inciting violence and pushing ethnic and religious agenda to desist forthwith.




The spokesman also reminded Obi’s supporters that the UN Resolution on Human Rights frowns at persons or governments who interfere with the right of individuals to seek, receive and impart information through any means of communication and digital technologies, through measures such as the removal, blocking or filtering of content, unless such interference is justifiable and compatible with international human rights law and standards.

Angela Okutoyi, Kenyan tennis player recorded a historic feat on Saturday afternoon, becoming the first ever Kenyan to win a Grandslam.

She made the history alongside Dutch partner, Rose Marie Nijkamp following her girls’ double victory at Wimbledon.

Emergency responders have recovered the bodies of a 52-year-old male and a 20-year- old female believed to be victims of boat accident in Lagos.

Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the Zonal Coordinator South-West National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.




Farinloye said that the incident was as a result of a W19 passenger Fibre boat carrying 16 people that capsized along the Ojo area of the state.




He said that the boat, which took off from Mile 2 to Ibeshe in Ojo axis, capsized while operating at night against the inland waterways rules.




Farinloye said that the incident happened at about 7.45 p.m on Friday.




“It was found out that the tide of the water drifted the boat to a stationary barge which caused it to overturn.




“Marine Police, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Lagos State WaterWays Authority (LASWA) and volunteers swung into action in trying to rescue some of the victims, but to no avail.




“It cannot be confirmed if all the passengers including the captain were wearing life jackets but some people claimed some of them were wearing their life jackets which may not be effective.




“Recovery operations are still ongoing,” Farinloye said.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday made a surprise appearance at an employment tribunal brought against him by former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro, according to the Press Association.

The tribunal is examining a claim of constructive dismissal against Chelsea and a connected, personal legal action against Portuguese boss Mourinho, who left the Blues in December, for alleged victimisation and sexual discrimination. London South Employment Tribunal in suburban Croydon heard on Monday that new Manchester United manager was likely to be questioned for at least a day during the case, which is expected to take seven to 10 days.

Carneiro alleges she was sexually discriminated against by Chelsea's then- manager Mourinho shouting "filha da puta" at her -- Portuguese for daughter of a LovePeddler after she ran on the pitch during a match. An extract from a statement by Mourinho was read out on Monday.
In it he claimed he was known for regularly using the term "filho da puta", meaning son of a LovePeddler, and had done so throughout the match in question last August. A skeleton argument submitted to the tribunal on behalf of Chelsea and Mourinho said Carneiro had been "made an open offer of £1.2 million ($1.73 million, 1.52 million euros) to settle her claims".

Mourinho dropped Carneiro as Chelsea's first team doctor after the Blues' opening match of last season in the English Premier League, a 2-2 draw at home to Swansea on August 8. Kano State Government on Sunday, promised
to register no fewer than 100, 000 youths to
participate in rice production in this year’s
farming season.


The Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, made
the promise while addressing a Town Hall
Meeting in Kano.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports
that the meeting was organised by the state
government to celebrate this year’s
Democracy Day.


He said that the state government had
commenced registration of interested youths
with a view to giving them the necessary
support before the commencement of
farming activities in full swing.
According to him, the state government has
concluded arrangements to support the
youths with fertilizer, improved seeds and
other necessary agricultural input.
He said the initiative was in line with the
Federal Government’s commitment to
diversify the economy.


The governor assured farmers in the state
that the state Agricultural Supply Company
(KASCO) would supply them with adequate
fertilizer this planting season.
According to him, the company has since
commenced blending of the fertilizer in
commercial quality.


Ganduje told the people that Kebbi
government recently ordered 240 trucks of
fertilizer from the company, which had
already been delivered.
He called on farmers in the state to take
advantage of the availability of the
commodity to boost food production in the
state and the country at large.
Ganduje also urged the unemployed,
particularly the youth, to embrace farming to
enhance their socio-economic status and
boost production.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari yesterday warned against forced marriages and child abduction in the country, noting that every child has the right of education and the right to live.
He also noted that decisive actions would be taken to stem what he described as unacceptable cases of violence and intimidation against children. Speaking in Abuja at the 2016 National Children’s Day Celebration, Buhari said: “Challenges posed by the total breakdown of societal values and the current unrestricted social media vices, which therefore, calls for an urgent need for all stakeholders to put all hands on deck in making conscious efforts at raising awareness of parents, family and communities at all levels on the critical role of protecting children against all forms of violence, abuse and exploitation including abduction of children, forced and early marriage.”

“As I said when I received Amina Ali Nkeki, the rescued Chibok girl, our determination and commitment to the protection of our children is unshaken, this government is resolute in our efforts at rescuing all the missing Chibok girls, the recent rescue of Amina Ali Nkeki and Sarah Luka by our gallant soldiers and the civilian JTF is a testimony to our unwavering resolve at defeating Boko Haram terrorists. No Nigerian should be put through the brutality of abduction, violence in whatever form or forced marriage. Every girl has a right to education and their choice of life.” He further said: “Government is committed to promoting and protecting the rights of every citizen including children. I challenge all stakeholders to rise up and take a decisive action to stem the unacceptable cases of violence and intimidation against our children. “I therefore charge the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to liaise with other agencies to work out appropriate programmes including actions and measures that would help in fighting the scourge of Child Abuse, Child Abduction, Child Labour and Child Trafficking, among others.”

wife to a boy who cannot even care for himself.

they can't even even count how many abortions
they had for that same boy sch bae it's now like

"romance" of Manchester United adds to one

FA Cup quarterfinal replays will be scrapped from
next season, the Football Association announced
on Thursday.
The last-eight stage of the cup competition will
revert to a sudden-death format over one
weekend in a bid to ease English football's
congested fixture list.


"The Emirates FA Cup remains at the heart of
English football and this change adds to the
excitement of the competition and will benefit the
wider game in general," FA chief executive Martin
Glenn said.
"In a demanding calendar and with increased
pressures on fans, it is important we move with
the times and consider new innovations.
"While fully respecting tradition and history, this
new development will help the cup retain its
status as a much-loved and world-renowned
competition."


As it stands, replays will continue to take place in
the earlier rounds of the competition.
The decision means the last FA Cup quarter-final
replay was Manchester United's 2-1 win over
West Ham at Upton Park this season.
In 1991, the FA abolished its system that allowed
multiple replays in FA Cup ties, with the limit
being changed to one replay, followed by a
penalty shoot-out if the teams remained tied.
FA Cup semifinal replays were phased out after
1999. Ryan Giggs settled the last semi-final
replay with his famous solo goal for Manchester
United against Arsenal at Villa Park.

Galatasaray beat city rivals Fenerbahce 1-0 in the Turkish Cup final at Antalya on Thursday thanks to a first-half goal from German striker Lukas Podolski. It was Galatasaray's third straight Cup victory and the 17th time they have won the competition in all.

The Cup win goes some way to appeasing fans after a campaign that had been an unmitigated disaster for last season's league champions, who had three managers this season and ended sixth despite the presence of stars like Wesley Sneijder and Podolski.
But it was also double disappointment for Fenerbahce, who came second in the Turkish Super Lig to Besiktas.

Ahead of the eighth edition of Yaw Live on
Stage on Sunday May 29th 2016, one of
Nigerian music heavyweights, Olamide has
been unveiled as a supporting cast for the
heavily anticipated show holding at the Eko
Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites,
Victoria Island, Lagos.

Olamide will join Phyno, Burna Boy, Korede
Bello, Solidstar, Seyi Shay, Naomi Mac,
Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, YCEE, Jaywon,
Pepenazi and others who have earlier been
announced as performers that will wrap up
the show after the night’s main event – the
premiere of “Shalanga”, a new satirical
stageplay written by Femi Branch featuring
Yaw and AY.


Previous editions of the annual stage
production have seen feature appearances by
Funke Akindele, Julius Agwu, Jude Orhorha,
Koffi, Owen Gee, MC Abbey and Okey
Bakassi. This year, the Yaw Live on stage
will also feature musical appearances by a
few legends that will form as surprised
guests.
Holding on a public holiday, the show will

Following a month of drama, accusations
and global publicity, Tiwa Savage has put the
controversy behind her as she features on a
new Solidstar track set to drop on Friday 27
May, 2016.


A refix of ‘Wait’, which originally featured
Davido, the song also features dancehall
hotshot Patoranking, as Solidstar prepares to
release his third studio album ‘Weed’.
Commenting on Tiwa’s involvement on the
track, Solidstar remarked,
“When the chance came to work with Tiwa, I
immediately went for it. She is one of the
biggest artistes in Africa and certainly the
biggest female artiste in Nigeria, so it was a
big privilege to feature her on the ‘Wait’ refix,
which is probably one of my favourite songs.


I think her fans have been looking forward to
this very much, and I hope they will enjoy

For the second time in a month, United Kingdom and Australia, yesterday, jointly deported 40 Nigerians for various immigration offences. The deportees, males and females, arrived the Hajj camp area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on chartered aircraft.
It will be recalled that last year, more than 40 Nigerians were similarly deported from UK for what the United Kingdom government called immigration offences. Switzerland also deported some Nigerians. Back home: Deported Nigerians from the United kingdom and Australia at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, yesterday.

The latest deportees came on two separate chartered flights. One of the chartered aircraft, with registration number ZTA -4741, arrived Lagos Airport with 36 Nigerians: 29 males and seven females. Also, an Air Seychelles aircraft, with registration number SND-1, brought four males into the country for similar immigration offences. Citizens of other African countries, such as Ghana, Liberia and Egypt, were also deported.

The returnees were received by various agencies at the airport, while officials of Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, checked their identities to ascertain their nationalities. A source close to the terminal, who did not want his name in print, said some of the deportees were violent when immigration officers attached to the international wing of the airport attempted to take their fingerprints.

Shenzhen (China) - Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has filed lawsuits against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. for alleged infringement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the Chinese firm said on Wednesday.
The lawsuits were filed with courts in California, U.S. and Shenzhen City in South China, with infringement claims over telecom patents and software, Huawei said. The lawsuit came at a time when domestic smartphone makers like Huawei and Xiaomi are upsetting the market apple cart, which until now has been dominated by the likes of Apple and Samsung.

Huawei said it was entitled to seek damages from companies that use its patents without proper licensing. The company said in a statement that it was committed to fair, reasonable and indiscriminate licensing of its mobile telecom patents. Ding Jianxin, head of Huawei intellectual property division, said the company had signed licensing agreements with dozens of companies.

Huawei said it had spent 9.2 billion dollars, or 15 per cent of the company's 2015 revenue, on research into new technologies, products and wireless telecom standards. Huawei has filed more patents than any other companies in the world, with 3,898 entries by 2015, according to data compiled by the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
According to tech consultancy Gartner, Samsung and Apple are the world's top two smartphone makers, with a combined market share of 38 per cent. Huawei is third with 8.3 per cent, followed by two other Chinese brands Oppo and Xiaomi. (dpa/NAN)

AHMED MUSA is the subject of a £23m (about N5 billion) bid by Premier League champions Leicester City, according to his current manager.
The Foxes were linked with a move for the CSKA Moscow striker in January but a bid did not materialise. Now, according to CSKA boss Leonid Slutskiy, Leicester have made a firm offer for the Nigerian.

The 23-year old scored 18 goals for the Russian champions in all competitions this season, including four in the Champions League. Speaking to Match TV, Slutskiy revealed Leicester had made a move: “The British club offered a bit less than €30m (£23m),” he said. “Musa came to me a few days ago and asked when [Claudio Ranieri] is back for the holidays and I told him I do not know, I do not know Ranieri.” Leicester are believed to have not been willing to meet the club’s £18m asking price in January.

The Nigeria international is currently holidaying has been excused from the Super Eagles who are facing Mali and Luxembourg to feature in the Yobo Joseph Testimonial in Port Harcourt. Musa has scored 11 goals for the Eagles in 57 appearances.

outstandingly in JAMB or in any other thing

This average score can be deduced from the
minimum normal cut-off mark for JAMB that
will qualify for post-UTME for that course
and in the institution as well as the previous
cut-off marks set by the institution that will
qualify you for admission by merit. As you
read this now, make your research and write
that average score down. This will help you
know the minimum mark you should work
towards.
