Some university students on Thursday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to consider their future and resume to work in their various institutions.

Some of the students, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu, expressed worries and lamented as they appealed for the suspension of the prolonged strike.

The students said they were tired and frustrated due to the time wasted without any academic achievement.

They said the strike would make them remain in the university more than it was necessary.

ASUU has been on strike since March 2020 over demands for more funding for public universities and renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement.

Others are outstanding earned academic allowances, the proliferation of universities by state governments, and the constitution of Visitation Panels to Federal Universities.

A law student at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Augustine Azubike, said he was appealing to the university lecturers to consider the future of the students and to return to work.

Azubike added that the incessant strike embarked upon by the lecturers was affecting the quality of university education in the country.

Another university student, Ann Chukwu, of Linguistic Department, University of Nigeria, Nsukka expressed worry over the lingering strike, adding that her private business, located within the university, had been static since the strike started.

“My business, which is within the university premises has been static since the lecturers embarked on strike and the business has been the source of income for my school and accommodation fees,” Ude lamented.

Daniel Onyekachukwu, a mechanical engineering student, from UNN, said the incessant strikes by public universities’ workers had altered the academic calendar and the students’ time of graduation.

“Our lecturers and government should consider students from poor families, whose parents are not financially buoyant enough to send their children and wards to private and foreign universities,” Onyekachukwu appealed.

Joe Ezike of the Department of Psychology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka said he was unhappy over the strike as his rent had expired.

“My anger over the strike is that the money I paid for my off-campus accommodation before the strike has expired without proper use of the room,” Ezike complained.

HealthCoronavirus (COVID-19), An “act Of God” Or An “act Of Terrorism” by Abuzago(op): 11:09am On Mar 26, 2020
Coronavirus (COVID-19), an “Act of God” or an “Act of Terrorism”
Coronavirus pendmic is not a new name, as it is the current virus ravaging human race. The COVID-19 which is cause by severe acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS- COV-2) has put a pause to human activities as it is now saver to stay indoor and avoid social gatheringgathering.

The first case of the COVID-19 attack was in Wuhan, Hubei China, in December 2019, but as of 25th March 2020 the virus has spread across over 190 countries with more than 422,000 cases. Over 18,900 deaths cases and more than 109,000 recoveries have been recorded around the world with China and Italy having the larger percentage of the virus attack. Other World leading countries like USA, Russia, England, France among others are also partakers of this virus attack. In the countries being affected by this virus, citizens are advised to stay indoor and avoid social gathering.

Can we call this virus attack as an Act of God or human act. Humans have been battling viruses since before our species had even evolved into its modern form. For some viral diseases, vaccines and antiviral drugs have allowed us to keep infections from spreading widely, and have helped sick people recover. Though, some of this viral diseases are natural while some are Man made. Some of these viruses are deadly like Ebola (2014-16) Out break in West Africa, Marburg virus 1967 a similar case to Ebola, Rabies a virus that destroy the brain, Smallpox a huge burden on planet then, Hantavirus which gained wildly attention in 1993, and a new case broke out in China on 24th of March, 2020, Influenza, Dengue and others deadly viruses are referred to as act of God by some people.

Although, Coronavirus is not as deadly as some viruses listed above but has gained world attention than some of the above listed viruses. This virus has been label to be an act of God’s anger on human, with many tagging this fact to the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conté’s statement that his country is now looking up to the help from sky as the case grow lager every day in Italy. But we can not over look the fact that this virus can be created and release as an act of Terrorist attack on human and world leading countries.

Synthetic virology as a branch of virology that engaged in the study and engineering of synthetic man-made viruses, is a prove that human can create virus and use it on fellow human beings as a means of population control. If this is truly an act of God we beg him to please save and heal the world but if it is act of human then we need to change our ways. For many children have now become orphans and many families have lose their love ones.
