A video that was posted on the official X account of Mic on The Podcast on Saturday, June 27, 2026 has captured the moment Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Public Communication was saying he has sold Akara before.

This came after the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu listed some businesses that Nigerians can begin with small capital.

In the video that surfaced online, Sunday Dare stated that there is nothing bad in selling Akara or roasting corn. He said he hawked bananas to several markets in Jos.

One of the biggest mistakes in Nigerian politics is assuming that everyone lives in the same economic reality.

They don't.

The debate over Senator Oluremi Tinubu's comments about akara and kuli-kuli exposed something deeper than politics. It exposed a disconnect between many middle-class commentators and the daily realities of millions of Nigerians.

To someone earning a salary every month, ₦50,000 may look insignificant.

To a widow selling akara, roasted yam, boiled corn, kuli-kuli or cashew nuts, ₦50,000 can be working capital. It is the difference between buying today's stock with borrowed money and buying it outright. It is the difference between surviving and expanding.

Years ago, I personally experienced this.

I gave five widows ₦30,000 each to buy cashew nuts. They repackaged them into smaller bottles and sachets for resale. Within three months, every one of them had repaid the money. We then revolved the same capital to another five women.

That small intervention did not create software engineers. It created sustainable micro-businesses.

That is the point many critics miss.

Not every Nigerian needs a laptop before they can be economically productive. Nigeria's economy is layered. A graduate may benefit from digital skills and technology. A market woman may benefit more from affordable working capital. A roadside food vendor may simply need enough money to increase inventory.

As food prices have risen, another trend has emerged. Demand for lower-cost prepared foods such as roasted yam, akara, bread-and-akara ("akara burger"wink, boiled maize and similar street foods has increased in many communities because they remain relatively affordable. That, in turn, has created opportunities for thousands of small traders operating with modest capital.

This is not an argument against technology or digital empowerment.

It is an argument against one-size-fits-all thinking.

Successful social policy recognises that poverty is not uniform. The needs of a graduate seeking employment are different from those of a widow selling vegetables, or a hawker financing her daily stock on credit.

Politics is ultimately about understanding people where they are, not where we wish they were.

If the opposition wants to become electorally competitive, it must spend more time listening in markets than arguing on social media.

The grassroots are not asking politicians to solve every problem overnight. Many are asking for something much simpler: enough capital to take the next step.

Sometimes, the journey out of poverty does not begin with millions of naira.

Sometimes, it begins with one basin of akara.

Good day everyone..

my narration may be long but please bear with me. i'm the type that loves keeping things low-key, minding my business and staying on my lane. I don't look for people's trouble but that doesn't mean if they look for mine i won't double it.

anyways long story short. i moved in into my present compound, mostly tenants here are family people. Apart exchanging pleasantries "Good morning",and "Good evening", i don't talk to any fellow tenant. and as someone who mostly works remote and into crypto, e no go hard them to tag me one name i just day my day.

so after like 2 or 3 months i parked in, then moved in a single lady that should be probably in her mid or late 30s but body her body na killer. she's always own her lane, goes to work early and back by evening,she constant keeps straight face and hardly greet or talk to anyone but a little soft when it's me. later i started noticing her kind of dodoyo eye contact.

i wasn't much surprise, one evening while i standing beside front of our estate's gate with the delivery bike-man receiving my package. as she was returning back from work, she walked up to me there and asked if i have eaten shawarma pointing one shawarma spot opposite end. saying yesterday was her first time trying their's and since then she haven't been her self...(in my mind was like why are you tell me all this or should i go and fight them?)....and that her day was hectic with diarrhea and fever all join. as we where going in, i asked hope she have taken medicine atlest to stop the running stomach she said yes but the ones she took ain't that effective and wants to get another one. i then told and directed her to a big pharmacy in our area, that after she gets home and freshens up she can go there and get the medicine. but she then insist that i must follow her, that she's tired and we going together will energize her. inside my mind i just smiled and talking inside me "watin u dey find for sokoto no worry e dey inside my shokoto, body go tell you soon". i didn't give her a forward answer i told her i'm going in, to try the package i just receive and do some few things but when she's done she can come to my apartment to call me if i'm less busy by then i will escort her to the pharmacy.

so from that very day that's how me and she became close, we started running parol and i dey constantly give her watin no good.. within me i know fully nothing is attached . my own is to keep the engine running for her Mr.Right to come drive the car away. i later got to know she's a bank in a top position too and she gallant well well. she has a large heart unless i didn't ask. her net worth can relocated family of 5 to US and they would hit the ground running immediately ..everything was matured and going smoothly but the only problem is the she's against us using bulletproof whenever we want to go to war cos she likes it raw...to my own understanding she's no longer a baby she will be tiding things up care of herself and taking after pills.

things have going on for over 8months now and no issues. so past Friday she came to my apartment telling lately she've not been feeling to well that on her back home, she branched the hospital to receive her result and that she's pregnant. immediately i asked her Pregnant ke? how? are you a baby ? don't you know how to prevent?.i then asked her what she wants about all this, she replied i should do what a man supposed to do.. supposed to do keh? of all the people in this world na banker i go come marry? people way too dey chop dem selfs office. colleague go chop, manger go chop even big customers ain't left out.. na watin innocent me wan come chop till i kpeme. I am 75% sure i'm the one that got her pregnant but DNA must clear the 25% doubt.

i then told her that i'm not ready for any of this. that i have goals to achieve and the one i score in her post is not one of them.. she went crazy after the drama she left but since then i have been receiving threatening messages and calls from unknown fellows but me i no send.. she can't rope me with belle.. i can't marry someone that's older than me.
