I read an article by John Charles Markurdi about an 18 year old student who was electrocuted in the school hostel in Otukpo, Benue state. Three questions came to mind when I read the story

- Why was there a naked wire in the school hostel
- Was the boy in question taught about safety
- Why did his colleagues pour water on him in a bid to revive him when he slumped? Where they taught on the appropriate way to respond in such a situation?

It breaks my heart to see that we take for granted little things that can be done to avert incidents in schools today. That is why I have taken so much interest in our teachers and developed the Free Empowerment program to sensitize and empower teachers to make informed decisions and also awaken them to their roles and responsibilities in our nation today.
