This afternoon, he confirmed his intention and also gave reasons why he is venturing into the political scene. "It's been a year since I made my first return trip back to Nigeria after 8. I wrote this piece on Facebook a year ago, the only thing that has changed has been the harsh economic situations over 80% of Nigerians found themselves now. The poor has become poorer. The indifference of the political class is of concern and the religious organisations are abandoning their responsibility to the poor while they enrich themselves. This one is a record created by me and I am happy that I have done my own side. And it's left for the Guinness World Records to ratify it and bring back results." The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola says 27 states have provided the ministry with land on which to build houses for the masses. Fashola told newsmen in Lagos on Friday night that the government had to lay the structure and establish a system before calling for private participation in the housing sector. He said that most of the building materials to be used would be sourced locally to fast-track growth and reduce unemployment. “If we achieve what we are planning, we would have built a system; if it becomes enduring like the new pension scheme, the better. When acceptability has set in, the private sector can be called in,” he said, adding that the Federal Mortgage Bank would play a significant role in providing funds. Fashola said the socio-cultural needs of each geopolitical zone would be considered in arriving at what architectural designs to choose for a particular town. He said that the targeted group would be civil servants on levels eight to 15 and their contemporaries in the private sector who would spend an agreed number of years to pay for the houses. According to the minister, once successfully established, it will be built on by successive administrations at all tiers of government and the private sector. More news @ http://www.widegist.com.ng

(CNN)FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers Sunday the agency hasn't changed its opinion that Hillary Clinton should not face criminal charges after a review of new emails. "Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July," Comey wrote in the new letter to congressional committee chairmen. Comey dropped a bombshell on the presidential race last month when he sent a letter to Congress saying the FBI had discovered emails in a separate investigation that could be connected to the now-closed probe of whether Clinton mishandled classified information. The move infuriated Democrats and emboldened Republican nominee Donald Trump. It's impossible to know before results are tallied what impact Comey's actions -- first raising a vaguely worded red flag 11 days out, and then lowering it two days from the election -- will have on the contest. But the news could help Clinton put to rest a controversy that has dogged her in the 2016 race's closing days, helping Trump narrow a polling gap nationally and in key battleground states.Comey's letter was the culmination of a fast-paced review of the newly discovered email, law enforcement sources said Sunday. "We went through this as fast as we could," a senior law enforcement official told CNN. The FBI found the new emails as part of its separate investigation into a sexting incident by Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin. The thousands of new emails were mostly personal and duplicates of what had already been seen, law enforcement officials said in explaining how the conclusion was reached so quickly. The laptop which was found was about a decade old with lots of personal content on it not relevant to the investigation, according to one source. Comey sent the letter as soon as possible, the senior law enforcement official said. He was "very careful" about how the letter was crafted given the sensitivities. Attorney General Loretta Lynch was informed ahead of time that the FBI director was sending the updated letter to Congress informing them of that there would be no change in the FBI stance on Hillary Clinton, a Justice official told CNN on Sunday. Lynch and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates disagreed with Comey's earlier decisionto notify Congress. The attorney general backed Comey's move Sunday. "Everyone is on the same page," the source said. Since there is no change to the original findings, the Justice Department has no need to weigh in further, the official said. "The Department of Justice and the FBI dedicated all necessary resources to................... Get full details @ http://www.widegist.com.ng |

I can still remember vividly my secondary school days like the alphabets A, B, C because those days were very interesting, funny and also challenging. It was in the Secondary school that we became teens and pubertal, these led to some exuberant characters. It was in the secondary school that some of us started chasing after ladies (don’t judge me) and to be honest, sometimes the chase was easy and others not. I and my close friend yesterday night were just reminiscing about the crazy things we did because of girls back then. Majorly because we were trying to impress them, prove a point or just because it was a stage .etc. I know you too did some things (might not be crazy like mine) but here is my own list. 1. Copying note for girls: even if I am yet to complete my own note, I’m always willing to help the girl I like complete hers no matter how long it might be. I do that because I know I will get her attention during the process and also have the chance to hang out with her. Some girls later turn me down even after writing more than 30 pages but believe me, the tactic worked a lot of time. 2. Missing Dinning: this was not easy because on the other hand I was a “foodie’ but had to miss most of my meals then so that I could earn respect from girls- they normally see guys that doesn’t come to the dining hall as big boys who spend a lot in the tuck shop. They don’t know some of us find solace in our garri or end up begging for food from peeps who went to the dinning. It was really crazy!!! 3. Attacking girls with “Devil’s beans’: I know this was cruel and mean but I and some of my friends poured the evil seed on the chairs and lockers of some girls in our class. This act was impulsed because some girls insulted us, “formed” or refused to accept our proposals. So we decided to make them dance in pains and shame without music while having fun. If you’re reading this, please forgive me. 4. Missing Classes: this was really crazy and I still don’t know why I had to do that because of girls. Maybe because we thought girls then liked the disobedient guys, “bad-guys’. With the mindset of impressing girls, you would see us jumping out of windows just so we could miss the lesson why the girls settle and receive the lesson. That was not crazy but unknown foolishness. 5. Showering Girls with Gifts: large sum of the little pocket money I was meant to survive with in the school was spent buying gifts for girls especially during valentine and birthdays. We wanted to act like “the rich kids of the school” feeling on top of the world but always ended up starving after some time while the girls enjoyed. 6. Lied a lot: for you to impress girls then you must really be “mouthed’ and good at lying because it was like my class girls liked lies and trust me I was good at it (though I don’t do that again). I fed them with sweet words that they couldn’t resist, told them I had things I’ve not seen before. 7. Failed: I fell in love with Trisha in my senior class but she refused to reciprocate the love. I was depressed, sad, and suicidal, couldn’t concentrate and even forgot why I was in school. The exams came and I failed woefully; I was called out among the last-five on the assembly ground and couldn’t bare the shame. It was only by mercy I was not repeated. CRAZY!!! Those are now good memories I’ve learnt from and still smile about. |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday told Mrs Folorunsho Alakija who is Africa’s richest woman, that his administration made her among the many billionaire Nigeria presently has. The former President who was a guest speaker at the 2016 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum, said this while reacting to claims by Alakija that the Obasanjo administration frustrated her moves to explore the oil sector after getting her oil license from the lae military dictator, Sani Abacha. According to Alakija who was also a panelist, the Obasanjo administration illegally took an oil block allocated to her company after her family had invested all its savings to strike oil in commercial quantity. Vanguard quotes her as saying “This oil block is in 5000 feet depth of water and was extremely difficult to explore. It took 15 years from the time that we were awarded the licence in 1993 till 2008 when we struck the first oil When this event happened, 60 per cent out of our 60 per cent equity in the business, was forcefully taken from us by the government of the day without due process. We had to fight back by going to court to seek redress and it took another 12 years for justice to be served in our favour. In all those years it was my trust in God, my perseverance and the support of my family that got me going,” she said.Obasanjo replied Alakija when he was given the microphone to speak at the event. He said “There is a saying in my part of the world that when a proverb touches you and you failed to reply, then you are a coward. For you to come here and say that, for no cause whatsoever, you were denied what was rightfully yours, is not fair. I do not know you from Adam and there is no reason I would have denied you what rightfully belonged to you. So, you have struggled, and you have struck oil. God bless your heart. My delight is to be able to create Nigerian billionaire and I always say it that my aim, when I was in government was to create 50 Nigerian billionaires. Unfortunately I failed. I created only 25 and Madam, you are one of them” he said Get more info @ http://www.widegist.com.ng

After spending heavy cash in the summer transfer window, Manchester United are still interested in splashing more cash to reinforce their squad in the winter transfer window. Manager Jose Mourinho signed Eric Bailly for a huge fee to strengthen his defense last summer and now reports suggest that the Portuguese manager is ready to sign another defender in the form of Benfica right back Nelson Semedo. According to reports(Sport Wintess via O Jogo), Manchester United want to seal the signing of the 22-year-old fullback who has a release clause of 45 million euros in his contract ($49million). The Portuguese international is a versatile talent who can play on either side of the defense and provide support in the attacking third as well. Last season, Nelson had an injury hit campaign where he featured in 22 games, scored 4 goals and also provided 3 assists. This season, in 8 league appearances, he has directly contributed in 2 goals (1 goal and 1 assist). He made his debut for the senior national side last year. New Zealand are chasing an ODI series win against India in the fifth match at Visakhapatnam on Saturday. (Source: AP) Having turned the tables after a shoddy show in the Test series, New Zealand speedster Tim Southee is confident that the Black Caps will be scripting history by winning their first ever bilateral ODI series in India. “I think the guys are pretty excited to do what no other NZ side has ever done before — come over here and win a one-day series. The excitement in the group is very high,” the New Zealand pacer said on the eve of the series decider. India-New Zealand bilateral rivalry dates back to 1988 when the Dilip Vengsarkar-led team made a clean 4-0 sweep against John Wright and Co. In 1995, Mohammad Azharuddin’s Indian team won 3-2, and four years later a Sachin Tendulkar-led team produced an identical result. Their worst defeat has been in 2010 when Gautam Gambhirled India to a 5-0 rout against Ross Taylor and Co. “Everyone is really looking forward to tomorrow. It’s been a long tour for some guys and it’ll be nice to finish what’s been a tough tour on a high note. The spirits are high and everyone is excited about the challenge for tomorrow,” Southee added.
