President Jonathan unveils Nigeria @ 50 Logo

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at a special event in the Presidential Villa, Abuja unveiled the logo for the nation’s Golden Jubilee tagged Nigeria @ 50.
Accompanied by past Heads of State and Government, President Jonathan said that the logo is a reminder of the legacies of the pioneers of the country.

He paid glowing tributes to the nation's founding fathers for their bravery in liberating Nigeria from colonial masters, observing that they did not labour in vain following the granting of independence on October 1, 1960.

President Jonathan also noted the ethnic challenges facing the country but stated that the resolve of its people to remain one indivisible entity cannot be compromised.
While commending Nigerians fro their strong spirit, he further enjoined them to use the logo in the Government’s re-branding campaign in order to reinforce the positive ways the nation is seen by the rest of the world.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, had announced Messrs JWT Nigeria Limited as the winner of the logo competition, which was in line with the guidelines of the Federal Executive Council.

The sum of N10 billion was budgeted for the 50th Independence Anniversary in the Supplementary Appropriation Bill sent by President Jonathan to the National Assembly for approval.

This sum would be spent as follows:

• N950 million ----Anniversary parade including march past, fleet review and aerial display
• N350 million-----National unity torch and tour
• N50 million---First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan’s visit to special homes, orphanages, prisons
• N20 million----Special session of the National Children’s Parliament
• N20 million---Party for 1,000 children.
