This is my first post on nairaland, i normally just read through threads here so cheers!

I've been wondering if your institution of study really matters in the Labour market in Nigeria (like seeking entry-level jobs).
My younger sister's result in the just concluded UTME exams was 223 and intends to study Mass communication in Unilag, on seeing the result and comparing with the cut-off mark for last year at UNILAG, i concluded it wasn't good enough as she might not cover up for it from the Post utme and WAEC scoring system.
So I wanted to advise her to do a change of course to English language.
Is it advisable to do a change of course or just change to another institution (to study mass comm) at like LASU, YABATECH or LAUTECH or just Change to another course at UNILAG.

Hence the question, "does your institution of study matter in the job market."
Are there any advantages of graduating from a "better" school?
I am a final year student at unilag, but i did same thing of settling for a "better" school instead of a much better, relevant and in-demand course at a lesser or lower grade university

I'm also a jambite like you are confused about choice of uni so my opinion might not really count but I will still give it. One question....how good are you in Mathematics? Unilag's post utme consists of Mathematics like you said.....15 questions out of 40 contains Maths.
Also, your waec is a determining factor cos it's 20% of your aggregate. Your waec must be full of As and Bs.
Lastly, as you're not from catchment it might be dicey. Cos the difference between the cut off for Merit and Catchment is like 3-4 points. Merit cut off is usually ridiculously high. Can you beat it??
If you have your waec results now, calculate your aggregate to know what you need to get in your post utme.

Unilag admission is easy of you can meet up with the necessary requirements. Just ensure you make your papers in one sitting and prepare hard for your post Utme. Start preparations now, don't wait till the school releases form

It majorly affects people and small scale running businesses around Universties such as okada riders, taxis, Restaurants, Hotels, Barbing/Hair dressing saloons, business centres, boutiques, beer parlours, bookshops etc

honestly, i'm not good in math at all. And i'm still writing waec so i can't sum up the aggregate thing. I think i'll just have to change my institution, though it pains my heart so much...
