So how do I cope with a girl from a family where they allow her to be rude to all the family members since when she was young without anyone taming her till she becomes an adult. Although the mother is the bread winner of the family, this so called girl does not even like her father at all. And now such a girl would expect to live with a total stranger (a guy) who has gotten his feet up in life. And now she is in a relationship with a guy and she is so rude to the person and always quick to end a discussion with "see don't worry I will be fine". In this case who should be the winner or the peace lover? See families should do well in upbringing their children so that they stop causing problems to the world |

Nairaland should add bookmark for each users so that searching for topics will be much more easy. Mr seun I need that bookmark button under topics we are in the era of laziness. So please help me |
A Balanced View on the Anthony Joshua Incident: The Nigerian State and the Nigerian People There have been many stories and reactions surrounding the recent incident involving British-born Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua. After reading numerous comments online, I believe this issue should be examined from two important angles: the Nigerian state and the Nigerian people. From the Perspective of the Nigerian State There is no doubt that many things in Nigeria are wrong from the onset, and successive governments have tried—some more than others—to correct them. The present government, despite its shortcomings, is making efforts in certain areas. However, one major gap remains effective public orientation. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has a critical role to play. Today, we have many radio and television stations across the country, yet most of them focus largely on criticizing the government and highlighting what is wrong with the Nigerian state. While criticism is necessary in a democracy, there is very little effort to also explain policies, highlight improvements, and communicate ongoing reforms to the people. A nation already divided by frustration cannot easily recognize progress, even when progress exists. This is why continuous public orientation is essential. Government must deliberately partner with radio and TV stations to explain: What is being done What has not yet been done What is planned for the future When people understand context, trust can slowly be rebuilt. From the Perspective of the Nigerian People The reactions seen on social media—especially on Twitter and WhatsApp—are largely driven by deep-seated anger and frustration with the Nigerian system. Many Nigerians react instinctively, not necessarily to the specific incident, but to accumulated disappointment over years of hardship. In such a climate, even when something is done correctly—such as a well-constructed road—people struggle to acknowledge it. Any negative incident becomes confirmation of a long-held belief that “nothing works in Nigeria.” In this sense, the reaction to the Anthony Joshua incident reflects a collective emotional response, not just the facts of the case. Critical Questions That Must Be Asked Even if the road itself is good, important questions remain unanswered: What was the trailer doing there? How long had it been parked? Was it broken down, and if so, why was it not towed? Was that an appropriate place for it to be stationed? Did the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), VIO, or other authorities take notice? Were warnings placed to alert motorists? Mechanical failures happen everywhere in the world. What matters most is the response to such failures. Poor response turns minor issues into fatal accidents. Unfortunately, incidents like this are not new. From Ojuelegba to various express routes across the country, similar accidents have occurred repeatedly. This shows a systemic failure, not an isolated event. Rethinking Road Design in Nigeria Nigeria has reached a stage—due to population growth and traffic volume—where road design must evolve. Our roads should be planned to accommodate different types of road users: Separate lanes for trailers and tankers Dedicated lanes for cars Lanes for tricycles, motorcycles, and bicycles Many tanker explosions and mass-casualty accidents occur because heavy vehicles share the same lanes with smaller vehicles. Separate lanes would reduce impact, limit casualties, and improve emergency response. Other Key Safety Concerns Lack of road signs Weak enforcement of speed limits Absence of traffic cameras No vehicle “black box” systems to reconstruct accidents happening so as to affirm what went wrong and cameras to support the claim. Increased drunk driving, especially during festive periods These gaps make it difficult to determine what truly went wrong in incidents like this. Conclusion Nigeria must do more—both in infrastructure and communication. We must move beyond the mindset of “Nigeria will always happen to you.” When things are done right, they should be explained clearly. When they are done wrong, accountability should follow. Public trust is rebuilt not just through action, but through transparent and consistent orientation. May God continue to protect us all and guide us as a nation toward safety, responsibility, and progress. |
