@ FashPet thank you for the insight. I have decided to keep the sows with the friend selling them to me till they farrow, since he has the experience already. I will cater for the feeding and the other logistics. We have benefitted a lot from the contributions here.

A variety of breeds with comparable performance are available for you to start with. As you progress you can eventually settle for a breed that fits your market expectations.
