@Akandea remember that the future energy rests with the geoscientists. We are still very relevant. The recent local content act, if fully implemented would offer us great opportunity. Live up, do not give up.Goodluck |

@Sachymyke Thanks a lot. I would also like to know how much the first semester takes before i'm possibly given a teaching assistance. |
@ow11. Thanks for the inspiring advice. God is working with you. |
@ sanchymike.Could you tell us how we can have access to the Petrel,Geographix etc. I have been looking for a way of getting it and learning it myself. You would do a lot of nairalanders a fovour if you tell us what and what it takes to do the MSc in the states. Your comment is very inspiring. |

NDLEA extending the deadline is for them to make more money. Let's be wise. They spent a fortune advertising the jobs on dailies. They will recover their money and ensure that they make profit. The questions I have for them are: How many Nigerians are they ready to employ? Will the senators, house of rep members and other top politicians not hijack the openings? How is the FGN funding NDLEA for them to be able to declare many vacancies? Do they just want to get their funding from the innocent and helpless Nigerian job seekers? Let's be wise! |

@aeon. yes you have moved but you are a trained geoscientist. That is the reason you identified with us by posting your comment. Remember you should not neglect your little beginning. There are areas of your present job in business development that will still need your knowledge of geoscience, except you are not working in a geoscience-related company.Geoscience is a sweet profession! |
@dikwons, It is true that higher degrees are needed in Geo-related jobs, however, there are many entry-level geo jobs like the recent ExxonMobil, Chevron, Haliburton vacancies. The best thing to do now is to upgrade yourself in terms of training, MSC , PhD ,if you have the resources(money). The software training would also be helpful. Softwares like Petrel, Geographix, Geoframe, etc. are very important in the oil industries today. I am sure that if you have these software trainings, companies will need you to work with them. Good luck |
@ fullmoon, well read and understood, but you can use your position in your company to help fellow geoscientists in their job search. May God bless you as you do that. |
Fellow Geo scientists, let us use this medium to discuss ways forward for ourselves: your ideas, your interviews, your trainings etc. |
I have a BSc in Geology and and MSc i the same field. I have good grades in both degrees. I have tried applying in companies. They usually turn my application down because i do not have the industry experience. The only job I have now is a teaching job in a secondary school, and the salary does not take me home at all. Fellow nairalanders, please your advice is needed. |
