The International Monetary Fund has granted debt relief to 25 countries, mostly African nations excluding Nigeria.

A statement by the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, said it would provide $500m in grant-based debt service relief to these countries.

“Today, I am pleased to say that our executive board approved immediate debt service relief to 25 of the IMF’s member countries under the IMF’s revamped Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust as part of the Fund’s response to help address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

It listed the beneficiaries as Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, D.R., The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Tajikistan, Togo and Yemen.

Meanwhile, the fund has advised commercial banks to restructure loans in a bid to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a report entitled ‘Maintaining Banking System Safety amid the COVID-19 Crisis’, IMF Director of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department, Tobias Adrian, called for the restructuring of loans extended to sectors that were adversely affected by the pandemic.

Adrian urged regulators and supervisors to also remind banks about flexible credit risk management.

The IMF official also advised that banks should not hide their losses.

“Banks, investors, shareholders and even taxpayers have to bear the losses.

“Transparency helps prepare all stakeholders; surprises only worsen their response, as was proven during the 2008 crisis.”
Addressing the need to help businesses and individuals affected by COVID-19, Adrian said the IMF would help to rebuild distressed banks.

He said, “The IMF has deep experience in helping countries rebuild distressed banking systems through its technical assistance programmes, and will stand ready to help.
The coronavirus pandemic is a different kind of shock. Never before have modern economies shut down at the drop of a hat.

“From one week to the next, many workers lost their jobs and paychecks.

“Restaurants, hotels, and airplanes all emptied. And consumers and businesses now face steep losses in income – and potentially widespread bankruptcies.”

Adrian warned against a change of banking rules during the crisis.

Noting that banks should be given time to meet rules if they fall short, he urged the banks to maintain ongoing operations.

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Wednesday directed all markets in the state to be shut indefinitely due to the spread of the coronavirus.

The latest action was in addition to an earlier government order restricting gatherings at events to only 20 persons,

It also placed a work-from-home order on workers from GL 12 downwards as well as closed down schools.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, said in a statement in Ado Ekiti that traders affected in the latest directive would not include those selling essential commodities.
He named such essential commodities to include foodstuff, medicine, medical equipment and water.

Oyebode said others that did not fall into the essential commodity category were to stay away from markets with effect from 5 p.m on Thursday.

” This is in a bid to curtail the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the state by ensuring that citizens observe the social distancing practice among other measures,” he said.


The government, according to the statement, also urged commercial vehicle drivers as well as National Union of Road Transport Workers and Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria to reduce the ” outrageous fares” being currently charged.

It said they should particularly consider students, who were returning home in their numbers, following the closure of schools in the state.

The government urged all citizens in the state to partner with the government in checking the spread of the coronavirus.

Once you get the hang of making homemade cream and butter at home then I am sure you will not go in for store bought ones.But I agree it takes time but the when you see the end product, it is all worth the wait.I have never got cream from shops whenever I make gravies that calls for cream like PB masala,paneer tikka masala , methi matar malai etc.And trust me add few tbsp of fresh for any gravy, it takes the gravy to a whole new level .


I have got amul fresh cream tetra packs twice for making strawberry and mango cheese cakes as homemade cream is not suitable and advisable for desserts like these and yes that’s a word of caution I tell in advance �

Milk

Method:
Heat milk and boil for sometime say 3-5mins(depends on what type of milk you get).After the milk is boiled, let is sit aside for 30mins or few hours in the fridge so that thick malai gets collected at the top. Carefully take the malai with a spoon and collect it in a clean container else you can use a strainer to take the malai. I usually collect the malai whenever I boil milk so twice a day. The malai quantity depends on the type of milk you get.
How to make fresh cream - Step1
Keep collecting the malai in the same container and refrigerate it. Keep refrigerated and let it sit for atleast 1 day for your instant cream say if you need just few tbsps.Just whisk it well and Your cream is ready to use. But if you want it in bulk then keep collecting for atleast 10-15 days or till you think you have a fair amount of malai collected.
How to make fresh cream - Step2
After the container is full you can either make butter out of it else use it as cream as such. Just whisk it well using a hand whisk for few mins until its creamy without any lumps.You can also use a electric whisk to beat it.Your cream is ready for use.
