If you are a member of the African Diaspora working for the betterment of Nollywood or other African movie industries, we want to hear from you. Finding out how all hands can be put on deck to improve our films is the goal. Some are able to return home to help and others have to contribute remotely while they are outside of Africa. What are your pros and cons? |
Nollywood definitely made progress with its image quality issues, but one enduring problem is the poor, repetitive or plagiarized story-lines. The question is what can be done to bring the best movie script writers out into the open, to rectify this situation. The African Diaspora might have to start writing script for Nollywood to get us out of this mediocre story line impasse. Although, script writers living in Africa should have a better sense of how/what to write. Why can't Nollywood producers locate great, unique and non-repetitive movie stories? What are the main script writer associations in Nigeria? How do script writers grow in their craft? |
Does the site specify its acceptance standards for movie scripts? The landing page has no instructions to that effect, script writers should not waste time uploading inadmissible work. And, how are writers sure that their work is not being stolen? Script writers should be wary of providing entire script to website without information about intellectual property rights. |
Serious movie producers will probably not report to your call unless there is clearly something in it for them. "Good scripts" according to whose judgment? Do African movie script writers seek independent/no non-sense reviews before they even approach movie producers? Also, people should consider selling their scripts online to expand their opportunities, there are only so much funds to make new movies in each local movie market. Kenya, South Africa, Ghana and even francophone Africa have taken the hint from Nollywood. In spite of our obvious bias, maybe the buyers need to come to the sellers instead of the other way around. A marketplace that gathers quality scripts for movie producers would save everyone a lot of time and aggravation! As to stolen scripts, that is plain wrong! But, the writers can fight against it by exchanging best practices to protect their work from thieves. |
Great to see that they are scripts for sale. Finding a way to gather quality screenwriters and to increase their bargaining power is the next step. Ultimately, quality and economic realities will be the main drivers of price. And, we are looking for African movie scripts by the way... |
