Politics / Truth And Fallacy About Kogi State by Ahmadgani(m): 6:53am On Oct 18, 2017
By Shaibu Stephen Ojate

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is being seen by people in different forms. Some consider him as the worst Governor of the State since its creation while others regard him as the messiah God sent to Kogi State to redeem her people and indeed he is living up to expectation.

The erroneous impression people have about him was what necessitated his Special Assistant on Social Media, to invite some known social media Users to grace Kogi State Social Media summit in Lokoja, recently.

The objective of the summit was to enable the invited social media users to have interaction with the political appointees in order to get first-hand information on the affairs of Kogi State contrary to misrepresentation and false claims trending on the social media platform.

The meeting was also to give the invited social media users an ample opportunity to ask questions or to seek clarification on any issues since Bello took office as Kogi State Governor.

The meeting had close to one hundred participants and it was indeed an explosive and interactive session. Questions ranging from politics, social and how best to enhance the economy fortune of the State were asked and discussed. Kogi State officials did not put anyone in doubt as they clearly itemized what the administration had done so far and even gave reasons for the delay in the ongoing road construction across the three senatorial districts in the State.

The government officials hinted that for the nine year regime of the former Governor of Kogi State, he never deemed it fit to give his community power supply and it was Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s government that electrified the area and three other neighbouring communities.

This same gesture was equally extended to Koto Karfe community which had electric high tension wire passed across the communities but were left in total darkness for decades. The officials added that the people from Alhaji Ibrahim Idris’s community throng out in large number celebrating the coming of electric power supply to the area for the first time in history.

The government official hinted that contract for a project was given to Alhaji Ibrahim Idris’s son running to billions in his community and one per cent execution of such project was not even done. They asked people from the community whether they see any trace of such project and the people from the locality replied no.

The government official hinted that the State government under Bello has approached Energy Distribution Company to buy shares of energy from them for onward distribution to communities in the three senatorial districts of the State to cushion the perennial power supply in the State. They said, the measure is aimed at complementing the existing service of the Energy Distribution Company in the State which they noted have not been good enough.

For all these claims on projects done in some communities in the State as portrayed by the political appointees being achievements of Alhaji Bello’s administration, among the hundreds of participants at the summit, no one refuted or disclaimed them on the projects done.

The writer of this article demanded to know why the elimination of ghost workers after the screening exercise and the claim of enhanced internal revenue generation running to billions of Naira have not been positively felt by the Civil Servants in full salary payment and today percentage salary payment still lingered in the State. The officials noted that with what presently comes to the State as federal allocation, the state still needs barely N700 million to enable it pay full salary to workers.

They added that as the federal allocation is not meant for salary payment alone, projects are needed to be executed from it; this was one of the reasons why the issue of percentage salary payment still lingered in the State. The official noted that under Ibrahim Idris’s administration, Kogi State did receive N10 bilion and even more every month. Today, the same allocation stood at an average of N3bilion. The huge allocation as received during Ibrahim Idris’s administration accounts for the reason why the State did not experience any salary crises then.

Contrary to the claims in social media platform that political office holders receive their monthly salary regularly without delay and leaving the civil servants at the mercy of God, the writer of this article can confidently say that such insinuation is false. I had an interaction with newly political appointee and he told me that he has not received any salary payment since he took office three months ago. He said, he is considerate with the government on the financial state of the State and he needs not to complain to anyone on on-salary payment as he accept the offer of responsibility to serve the people and not for salary per say. He buttressed that old political office holders just received their July salary in the month of October.

In all, I now come to a conclusion that claims and counter claims trending in the social media platform about the present Kogi State have political and ethnic undertone as the participants in the summit had nothing to doubt about government officials on Kogi State affairs after the summit. Yes, one can pick one or two weaknesses from the political appointees but that is not to say that they were wrongly appointed.

No one is perfect but on a general note, the political appointees spoke well of themselves when they were called to answer question relating to their offices. The political appointees all demonstrated high sense of transparency and competence when they were called to answer questions. They were not mediocre, zombies, collection of School dropouts or nonentities as some people on social media users made people to see them. They were truly new brand of Leaders in the making.

My perception about Bello’s administration has really changed for good. Governor Bello and his team are on track but need little adjustment.

Politics / N/east Needs International Focus, Saraki Backs Buhari by Ahmadgani(m): 6:40am On Oct 18, 2017
The President of the Senate Dr Bukola Saraki has called on Nigerian’s not to berate President Muhammadu Buhari for his call for focus on the North East saying that the region was in dire need of attention.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen at the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU) Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia, Saraki said that the level of devastation in the region required priority attention.

He stressed that it was in view of that he had called for an international conference on the North East to get attention to the region and to raise fund to rebuild it.

Recently, the President of the World Bank was quoted as saying that President Buhari asked the Bank to focus on “northern Nigeria”, a report which generated criticism for President Buhari but had been described by the Presidency as misconstrued. The Presidency stressed that the President only sought attention to the north east in view of the pressing humanitarian and developmental crisis.

While backing President Buhari, Saraki however stressed that he was not undermining conflicts in other parts but pointed out that “for the President to ask for focus on the North East, I think it is appropriate, to address the issue of Boko Haram.

“I am not saying there are no issues in other regions of the country but you will agree with me that it is the greatest danger faced by the country.

“It is only that now because of the achievement of the federal government, we are all getting a bit relaxed and asking questions about focusing on rebuilding the area or not.’’

He called on Nigerians to rise above sentiments, particularly on issues that pose great threat to human lives.

The President of the Nigerian Senate went on to say that there while still suppressing the Boko Haram insurgents, there were still a lot of humanitarian and developmental challenges in the region.

He said reports had it that the level of Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in Nigeria was one of the highest in the world due to the damage caused by Boko Haram.

“The level of IDPs in Nigeria though not as much as much as in Syria but it is very high, second highest.

“So, the international community must hold a conference to be able to raise enough money and awareness.

“That kind of conference will bring in more donors and agencies that will contribute to to rebuild the North East.

“We have not made much progress in rebuilding the North East because we cannot do it alone.
“The issue is how to sustain the peace that exists in the region enough to relocate people to their homes. That is where we are and that is the difficult part,’’ he said.

On concerns of corruption allegation linked to funds previously released for rebuilding of the North East, Saraki said such would not stop the call for international intervention because of the number of lives being affected.

He noted that rather than doing nothing because of corruption allegations, the right thing was to investigate the allegations and bring those found wanting to justice, while continuing with the rehabilitation process.

“Are we playing our part, yes, is there corruption, yes. It is not only in the management of the North East, we have corruption in other areas.

“It is however unfortunate that such is happening to people who should be assisted. People who have been displaced and who have lost their lives.

“We would have thought that, that will be the last place to hear of corruption. This shows how greedy people are that they cannot consider the humanitarian aspect of the problem.

“However, we must commend the men and women in uniform, the Federal Government in providing funding and the support of the National Assembly.

“Now there is relative peace, though there are still sporadic attacks but not as much as it was a few years ago,’’ he said.

Crime / Protest As Herdsmen Kill Over 25 In Plateau, Delta by Ahmadgani(m): 6:09am On Oct 17, 2017
Groups allege plot by gunmen to invade Benue
No fewer than 29 people were allegedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Nkei - Dongwro near Miango in Bassa Local Government Area , Plateau State, yesterday .

A dusk - to- dawn curfew had earlier been imposed on Bassa following a series of attacks in the area . But the gunmen have been defying the curfew as the attacks usually take place in the night .

The National President of Irigwe Development Association and former member of the Plateau State House of Assembly , Sunday Abdu , confirmed that 29 people mainly women and children were killed by the gunmen .

According to Abdu , some men seen as soldiers took the victims to one classroom with a view to saving their lives as they had all abandoned their ancestral homes , but it turned out to be a disguise as the gunmen massacred them as soon as they were left vulnerable by their perceived protectors .

Abdu , who said the village was attacked before , expected that the place should have still have been under the watch of the soldiers .
The state government said it was a regrettable case of unprovoked gun attack which has characterised the vicious circle of violence in the Irigwe chiefdom of Bassa council .

Government ’s reaction came through the Director of Press and Publicity to the governor , Mr . Emmanuel Samuel Nanle, in a statement .
The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Dr . Jonah David Jang , in a statement he personally signed, asked the government to reconsider another strategy as the curfew was not working . But he put the death toll at 23 .

He said he received with a deep sense of sadness and outrage , the news of the incessant violent killings going on in Bassa Local Government , allegedly perpetrated by herdsmen who have become the usual suspects in that kind of coordinated attacks in the state, and others in the Middle- Belt .

“ The attack on Tegbe Village, the failed attack on Nzoruvho Village on Saturday October 14 th, 2017 , and the most recent one on Nkiedonwhro Irigwe Chiefdom in the early hours of today October 16 th, 2017 where about 23 persons were alleged to have been killed , are condemnable, no matter the justification” , he said .

The Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO ) of the State Command, Mathias Terna Tyopev , said that though the incident happened , he could not give the actual casualty figure as he was still waiting for his divisional police officer to brief him on the incident.

The Plateau killing occurred as hundreds of women , many of whom are septuagenarians , in the wee hours of yesterday in Ebedei community , Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State protested naked against the continued attacks on residents of the community by herdsmen .

The protest , it was gathered , was informed by a series of attacks on the residents and their farmlands , and the alleged killing of two persons recently by the herdsmen .

Though the Police Commissioner, Mr . Zanna Ibrahim , had issued warnings against fresh hostilities in any Delta State community , the protesters were said to have exhausted their patience during an endless wait for response to their formal protest to the state government and security agencies .

The women took to various streets , raining curses on the herdsmen whom they alleged have destroyed their farm crops , and raped some of them.

According to one Otutu Chuks , who claimed to be a member of the community , the protesters marched past the Umutu Police Station in the area , expressing their anger over the destruction caused by the herdsmen before 6 :00 a .m . and returned to their various homes .

One of the protesters , Madam Eunice Anigala , said on telephone that the protest was informed by the pains suffered by the Ebedei community at the hands of the Fulani herdsmen . According to her , the protest will be on weekly basis until the herdsmen vacate the community .

The Commissioner for Information , Mr . Patrick Ukah, said the state government was committed to the protection of lives and property of the people, adding that security agents had been directed to maintain law and order at the flashpoints in the communities .

The police commissioner dismissed the protesters ’ allegation, saying that peace had since returned to Ebedei community , in reaction to their earlier protest .

He said that the police would deal with anybody caught in any act capable of breaking down law and order , disclosing that a 24 - hour police patrol of the community had been ordered.

Meanwhile, the major socio - cultural groups in Benue , including Mzough - u - Tiv , Idoma National Forum and the Ominiyi Igede have alerted the residents to alleged plans by herdsmen to attack Benue , urging the Federal Government to tackle the menace the way she is handling security challenges in the North East and Niger Delta .

The groups raised the alarm yesterday when they paid a visit to Governor Samuel Ortom at the People’ s House Makurdi .

The Leader of the delegation and President General of Mzough - u - Tiv , Chief Edward Ujege , said the groups had received reports of alleged armed Fulani militia buildup and convergence at the Nigerian - Cameroon border and at the Agatu border with Nasarawa State to the North - West of Benue.

“ It is being reliably gathered that leaders of the herdsmen have held clandestine meetings in Nigeria and abroad to visit mayhem and genocide on the people of Benue State.

“ The plot is said to be multi - directional and aimed at simultaneously invading and attacking Benue from every angle so that there would be no escape for our defenceless people, ” Ujege maintained.

The groups said their visit was necessary to alert the Federal Government , which they however said had relaxed over the issue.
Ortom promised that the state government would make land available to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for the establishment of pilot ranches in the state.

Ortom stated that the provision of land was part of the state’ s contribution to the collaborative efforts with the ministry.

He reiterated his position that the anti - open grazing law was intended to ensure lasting peace for farmers and herdsmen whom he urged to embrace dialogue and good neighbourliness .

Politics / IPOB: Nnamdi Kanu Returns To Court Today by Ahmadgani(m): 5:57am On Oct 17, 2017
By Kunle Olasanmi, Abuja –

The embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is expected to return to court today for the continuation of his trial.

Kanu was granted bail by a federal high court when the court sitting in Abuja, adjourned hearing on the suit filed against him by the federal government, till today.
However, it is unlikely that the IPOB leader will be present in court.

For about a month now, there has been accusation and counter-accusation over the whereabouts of Kanu as his whereabouts has remained unknown, following the raid that was carried out by the military in his Afara-ukwu residence in Umuahia, Abia state, on September 14, 2017.

The Nigerian army on September 14, 2017 stormed Kanu’ s residence in search of what they called “technical items.”

Kanu is standing trial before Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, of a federal high court sitting in Abuja.

He was granted bail by the court on the ground of ill health with some conditions that were seen by some as being stringent.

As hearing on the suit continues today, there are concerns that with Kanu’s whereabouts unknown, his sureties, Eyinnaya Abaribe, chairman, Senate’s South East Caucus; a Jewish priest, Immanuu-El Shalom and an accountant and Abuja resident, Tochukwu Uchendu stand the risks of taking the place of the defendant according to the statute or forfeit to the FG the amount of the bail bond signed on behalf of the defendant. As part of the conditions for his bail, Kanu was ordered to produce three sureties including a highly respected Jewish leader, a highly placed Igbo person who resides and owns properties in Abuja.

Each surety according to the judge must deposit the sum of N100million.

Kanu was also ordered not to attend any rally or grant an interview and must not be in a crowd exceeding 10 persons among other conditions. The court also ordered him to surrender his Nigerian and British passports and must be available for trial at all times.

Celebrities / The World Took Notice Of African Art, Music Because Of Fela, Says Ambode by Ahmadgani(m): 6:09am On Oct 16, 2017
Lagos State governor , Mr . Akinwunmi Ambode , yesterday , said Fela Anikulapo- Kuti, popularly known by his first name , Fela , deserved to be celebrated with many monuments because he made the world sit up and take notice of the energy of African art and music .

Speaking at the unveiling of an effigy to immortalise Fela on his birthday , Ambode maintained that fela was an enigmatic artiste , who used the platform of his art to agitate for social and human rights by challenging the government and people to explore development through social and economic activities that are rooted in African values .

The governor , while noting that Fela would have been 80 years next year , said for his contribution to music , art and entertainment in Lagos , Nigeria and Africa , the Lagos State government believed he should be immortalised .

According to Ambode , Fela deserves to be celebrated with many more monuments and different artistic expressions . “ Today, he is still alive in his music and in the music of Femi , Seun and other artistes who have followed his style of music . Fela will forever be accorded his position in the Global ‘ Hall of Fame ’ of artistes .

“ The phenomenon that the world knows as Fela was deeply rooted in the evolution of Lagos State. The story of music , art , entertainment and tourism in Lagos and Nigeria cannot be told without an eloquent mention of the ‘Abami eda’ .

“ On this day , October 15 th , which would have been Fela ’ s 79 th birthday , the government and people of Lagos State celebrate Fela with the unveiling of this Liberation Statue , ” Ambode said .

For the governor , though it has been 20 years since he passed on , the memories Fela left remain evergreen. “ Today we celebrate a man who voluntarily turned his back on a life of comfort and privilege , and took up his saxophone as a weapon to fight for the liberation of our people from neo - colonialism and bad governance . ”

Ambode said the Liberation statue unveiled was not an image of Fela but a symbol of Fela ’ s philosophy. “ This artwork was created as a form of respect and remembrance to this legend; what he stood for and fought for with his music ; his mythology ; struggle for freedom ; fight for human dignity ; social consciousness; courage and Pan- Africanism .”

Speaking on behalf of the Fela Kuti family , Yeni Kuti , thanked Ambode for putting up the effigy .

She disclosed that Fela never liked statue, so Fela would be happy that a monument put up to celebrate him was an effigy of his costume .

The Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Arts and Culture , Mrs . Adebimpe Akinsola , revealed that in the last two years, Ambode has given artists room to express themselves like never before .

According to her , Fela is part of the Lagos success story because it was the space he used to express his thoughts about the dignity and value of Africa .

After unveiling the effigy , the governor went to the Kalakuta Museum where he was received by Fela family members , including Femi, Yemi and Seun . Dignitaries at the unveiling included Femi Falana , Pa Benson Idonije , Jahman Anikulapo, Olu and Joke Jacobs , among many others .

Meanwhile, few minutes after they left the annual Felabration at the New African Shrine in Alausa , Ikeja, the duo of Moshood Olowu and Olasunkanmi Ogundipe along with their accomplices , who are now at large , allegedly robbed commuters in different parts of Lagos .

While Olowu and Ogundipe carried out their operations in Ketu and Ojota areas of the state respectively , another suspect , 22 - year - old Rasak Adebola , was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad ( RRS ) in a separate incident for bag snatching.

It was gathered that 24 - year - old Olowu and 26 -year - old Ogundipe and their two other accomplices , now at large , left New African Shrine and were heading to Ikorodu through Ojota when they committed the crime

Olowu said : “ We were at Ojota around 5 :00 a .m . after leaving Felabration venue to board a bus to Ikorodu . I dipped my hand into another passenger’ s pocket when we were rushing the bus . I removed his phone and passed it to my colleagues , Ayobami and Jide .

The owner held my hand and prevented me from joining the bus . Ayobami and Jide , who I gave the phone to , went away while RRS policemen who were passing by arrested me . ”

Olajide on his part said he was in company of nine other accomplices from New African Shrine when they accosted one Pastor Adetayo Samuel , who was waiting to board a bus to Ibadan at Old Toll Gate , Ketu and collected three mobile phones from him and N 6 , 000 .

He said : “ We fled the scene immediately and we broke into three groups. We were trailed by RRS patrol team, who received complaint from our victim . They arrested me while I was trying to board a bus to Ibafo .”

Confirming the incidents , the state Police Public Relations Officer , ASP Olarinde Famous - Cole , said the three suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department ( SCID) , Panti , Yaba, for further investigation and prosecution .

Politics / Ex-igp, Ibrahim Coomassie, Escapes Assassination Attempt by Ahmadgani(m): 5:55am On Oct 16, 2017
Policeman killed , another injured in gun duel

• Masari, ACF condemn incident, urge justice

Former Inspector General of Police ( IGP ) , Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie , escaped an assassination attempt at his residence in Katsina at the weekend .

Commassie , who is also the Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum ( ACF ) , had his guard killed and another seriously injured by the gunmen that equally carted away the rifle of the fallen cop .
However , the police command has cordoned off entry and exit points into the state with a view to apprehending the perpetrators of the Saturday night attack .

The Commissioner of Police, Besen Gwana , at a press conference yesterday in Katsina , said the measure was in addition to other strategies already in place to get the two suspects arrested as quickly as possible .

He gave name of the late officer as Sergeant Musa Ibrahim while Corporal Shitu Maikudi , injured in the leg , was receiving treatment at the General hospital , Katsina .
He said for the gallantry of the policemen , the assailants would have gained entry into the house and wreaked havoc .

The police commissioner , however, confirmed that the former IGP was at home when the incident occurred , adding that the force got information of the attack at 8 :00 p .m . and immediately swung into action , leading to the foiling of the operation .

He said : “ Two armed hoodlums , riding on a motorbike attacked mobile policemen posted on guard duty at the residence of former IGP , Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie GCON , NPM , mni, the Sardaunan Katsina and Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum .

“ The hoodlums met a stiff resistance from the mobile policemen who prevented them from gaining access into the residence.” Also yesterday , Governor Aminu Bello Masari and the ACF condemned the incident.

In a statement by his media aide , Abdu Labaran , the governor described the attack as “ dastardly , callous and cowardly ”, vowing that “ all those behind this would be fished out and punished accordingly .”

He regretted that an elder statesman , who has served and is still serving the nation with distinction , could be a target of evil minds .

The governor charged the security agencies to spare no effort in flushing out the perpetrators of the heinous crime and their sponsors , assuring the people that any accomplice would be dealt with in accordance with the law .

He reiterated his administration ’s zero tolerance for violence and breach of the peace.

The ACF , in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary , Alhaji . Muhammad Ibrahim Biu , expressed shock and disbelief over the incident.

It reads : “ ACF condemns the dastardly act of the assailants and calls on the security agencies to mount a serious manhunt for the perpetrators of this heinous crime in order to bring them to justice .”

The forum condoled with the family of the slain policeman over the loss.

Politics / Osinbajo Disowns Aide’s Statement On NNPC Crisis by Ahmadgani(m): 5:58am On Oct 13, 2017
• Admits approving loans , not contracts
• My memo was misunderstood , says Kachikwu

Amid the management crisis in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation ( NNPC) , it was confusion yesterday as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said he did not approve contracts but loans for the the organisation .

His Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity ), Laolu Akande, had earlier yesterday in his twitter page , @ akandeoji , announced that Osinbajo admitted granting approval to the NNPC for two oil contracts worth N640 billion while President Muhammadu Buhari was away on medical leave . Akande said Osinbajo approved the contracts in his capacity as Acting President in July.

“ In response to media inquiries on NNPC joint venture financing , VP Osinbajo, as acting president approved recommendation after due diligence, ” Akande stated. “ Action necessary to deal with huge backlog of unpaid cash calls which Buhari administration inherited and also to incentivise much needed fresh investments in the oil and gas sector , ” he tweeted.

The Minister of State for Petroleum , Dr . Ibe Kachikwu , had alleged that NNPC ’ s Group Managing Director , Dr . Maikanti Baru awarded the contracts without due process . NNPC had stated in its response that two presidential approvals were granted to the corporation for contracts with Shell Nigeria and Chevron at the rate of $ 1 billion and $ 780 million .

But Osinbajo later disowned the statement by his aide, saying the approvals he granted to the NNPC while he was acting president were for financing arrangements for the joint ventures between the corporation and International Oil Companies ( IOCs ) and not contracts.

At Bonny Island in Rivers State where he kicked off the Bodo- Bonny Road project yesterday , Osinbajo insisted that he granted loans and not contracts. “ These were financing loans. Of course , you know what the joint ventures are , with the lOCs like Chevron that have to procure . “ In some cases, NNPC and their joint venture partners have to secure loans and they needed authorisation to secure those loans while the president was away. The law actually provides for those authorisations.

“ So , I did grant two of them and those were presidential approvals , but they are specifically for financing joint ventures, and they are loans not contracts, ” the vice president said. Also yesterday , Kachikwu said his recent memo to President Buhari was not anchored on exposition of fraud in his ministry as largely held . He explained that it had the thrust of proffering solutions to moving the oil and gas sector forward , stressing that he had unalloyed confidence in the president.

During the third and last day of the three- day Nigerian content workshop sponsored, among others, by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB ) at the Imo Trade and Investment Centre , Owerri , Kachikwu said his understanding of Buhari was that of a ‘ clean and meticulous ’ leader , noting that his work would better the lot of Nigerians.

The minister wondered why his letter occupied conversations of Nigerians for many days , stressing that people should disabuse their minds of the conception of fraud and regard the memo as a correspondence to put the country on the path of good governance . Kachikwu said that Buhari had directed that he should work cordially with Baru to move the corporation forward.

To his audience made of scores of experts in oil and gas industry , he said : “ The conversation has been largely misunderstood to border on fraud. It was not on fraud, but on governance and suggested ways to go about it. I think a lot of people got it wrong . People dwell much on issues of sensationalism and leave the main substance . I think I and Baru are working together as Mr . President has directed to move forward.”

Kachikwu praised the leadership of the NCDMB led by its Executive Secretary , Simbi Wakote, for a high performance in their activities anchored on promoting the Nigerian content issues in the oil and gas sector of the nation’ s economy .

Meanwhile , Anambra , Benue Trough , Benin , Sokoto and Bida may soon be regarded as oil- producing areas as the Federal Government renewed its commitment to hydrocarbon exploration in these places .

Meanwhile , the NNPC has reinvigorated exploratory activities in some seven hydrocarbon basins in the country outside the Niger Delta . These are Anambra , Benue Trough , Benin , Sokoto and Bida . Baru disclosed this yesterday when he received the Governor of Yobe State , Ibrahim Geidam at the NNPC Towers , Abuja.

Briefing the governor on efforts to increase exploratory activities in the industry , Baru stated that modalities were on to open up all the basins in the country to prospective investors. “ We are on target and we are looking at the prospectivity of the whole basins of Niger Delta , Chad, Anambra , Benue Trough , Benin , Sokoto and Bida . We are focused on delivering on these basins in line with our mandate , ” he affirmed.

The GMD said preliminary exploratory activities had indicated some signs of hydrocarbon in eastern Yobe of the Chad Basin , adding that once the corporation received security clearance , the 3 D seismic data acquisition in the area would continue as scheduled. Jobs/Vacancies / Lagos Restates Commitment To End Graduate Unemployment by Ahmadgani(m): 5:49am On Oct 12, 2017
As part of efforts to build human capacity , boost Small and Medium Scale Enterprises ( SMEs ) , and end unemployment, 1000 finalists who participated in the “ Ready Set Work , ” ( RSW ) an initiative of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, are set to embark on internship with 70 business organisations in the country.
The successful candidates who were selected out of 1500 students after a 12 - week rigorous training programme aimed at preparing Nigerian students for the world of work are to take up 1000 available space in the 70 partner organisations .
Speaking during the Internship and Business Fair , held at the Lagos State University (LASU ), where the 1000 candidates were selected, the Special Adviser to the governor on Education, Mr . Obafela Bank- Olemoh , said the changing reality in the country is the dearth of jobs, especially in the public sector . He said the overall aim of the project is to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among young people and end graduate unemployment.
According to him , available statistics indicated that 97 per cent of available jobs in the country are in SMEs and the Lagos state government is therefore thinking ahead on how to position youths in the state for the world of work. He explained that the state government is trying to achieve this objective with the RSW programme where over 70 organisations are willing to take them as interns for the next six months.
He noted that though, some of the interns are going to be placed with some of the big organisations , most of them are going to SMEs with fund provided by the state government .
He said : “ For us , it is to ensure that the average graduates in Lagos , regardless of the school you go to , whether Lagos State University , Lagos State Polytechnic , University of Lagos , you are ready for the world of work. And I dare say , that the graduates we are churning out , that went to this programme, are better than any graduates from any school in this country today . ”
Bank- Olemoh boasted that any organisation that has the students as interns in their company would be better off for it, adding that the state is currently working on restructuring vocational education as new plan for vocational studies will be announced soon . In all our effort is to ensure students in the state have the best opportunity to succeed .
Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof . Olanrewaju Fagbohun, on his part stated that if other states could replicate the initiative , delivering dividends of governance would not be a difficult task .
He said : “ Imagine what will happen when they unleash the 1500 students in the programme whose orientation has been totally changed , you will see the kind of difference that they would make. So you can multiple 1500 by 36 different states , and you will see the kind of difference we are talking about . ”

a coward who lacks strategies just like Hus predecessors he has taken the easy route. KANU really fumbled. he was not prepared physically, mentally and psychology before embarking on this suicide mission. I was an advocate of one Nigeria but if someone wants out let that person go.

I agree with your post but it is however very difficult to make gullible and myopic Nigerians to think from this angle. people like reno, ffk, fayose and co. will claim that a particular region is been marginalised and segregated. Nigeria is a multi professional country with plenty potential. let's say no to quota system, people should be judged and selected based on merits.
