Hi guys! Visa got approved this Monday at Lagos Embassy.

Being my first time, I got to the street that lead to the embassy very early (around 6:30am because my appointment was for 8am). I was bombarded by some mobile business centres guys who paraded me without giving me any breathing space. Not so long after the parade, I realised that some of my documents were missing. I had no choice than to engage one of those guys. They helped me print out all the missing documents at the rate of 1,000 naira (I wanted to cry though). After this I moved to the embassy entrance immediately. On getting to the police check point, I realised that mobile phones were not allowed at the venue. I look for a police officer to drop the phone with. She charged me a bill of 1,000 to help me keep the phone. I was so frustrated as that was the last card on me. At that point, I made a prayer to God that I must not go home with my passport as this stress and spending was too much. I was sweating profusely and later join the line at the embassy. Little did I know that I am going into another queuing. Anyways, after all the paparazzi, I was sent to a VO line. On getting to the line, I started observing people that are being interviewed by the VO. The VO was just denying people of visa. I was like, who is this wicked lady. At that point I was afraid and shaking. But I said to myself, I am going home with the white paper. I was tempted to change line, I discovered that other lines too were like the same. I just calm down at my line. After a lot of people were denied, I think one was approved, it got to my turn. I said, God favour me. Then the conversation started as follow;

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
VO: Your documents please.
Me: I gave her the documents (I20, Sevis Receipt and International Passport)
VO: Checking the documents and typing. After few seconds, you are going to illinois for doctorate degree (she was talking to herself while typing).
Me: I was looking at her.
VO: What is your highest degree of qualification
Me: BSc. First Class
VO: Really? But you are going for PhD. Okay you will be doing the masters along.
Me: I was just looking at her as she answered herself. I only nodded my head in agreement.
VO: She typed a little bit. How many schools did you applied to?
Me: Two schools, I named the schools
VO: Why have you decided to go for UIC?
Me: (Stammering) I listed three reasons as she was looking at me.
VO: What did you studied for BSc.?
Me: Chemical Engineering
VO: She looked at the I20. Okay you will be studying Chemical Engineering too.
VO: Have you traveled out before?
Me: No
VO: Why? (straight face)
Me: Because I have not had any reason to do that until now.
VO: She nodded her head
VO: What was your research area
Me: Kinetics and reaction engineering
VO: What will you be focusing on at UIC?
Me: Kinetics and reaction engineering
VO: What is Kinetics and reaction engineering? (straight face with full attention on me)
Me: (I was like, thank God) I answered her to the extent that she stopped me.
VO: What is your role at your place of work?
Me: I told her and stylishly relate it to process engineering, though they are related.
VO: Do you know anybody in USA?
Me: No
VO: Are you willing to pay for your bills?
Me: Yes. (I was like - who will say no?)
VO: Your Visa is approved. She gave me a white paper and circle my visa pick up point.
Every other things she said, I did not listen. I just wanted to leave the hall.
On leaving the hall, the police woman saw my face, among all other faces that were coming out from the visa office, she decided that she was not going to give me my 500 naira change. She latter calculated my transport fare for me and gave me 200 naira to return to Shomolu. Who am I to complain. At least I have my visa anyways. then I left the location.

The ONLY documents checked were;
1. I20
2. Sevis receipt
3. International Passport

Remark: I tried to see if I could get a science to the process, I can only say, the only thing is God's grace and favour. I prayed and prayed. Of course, I practiced with a lot of transcripts from here as given to me by my friend. I also spoke with other students that have passed through the process.

Thanks everybody. May God bless you.
