Wow! I never knew Mikel played at the U-17 level for Nigeria. He even scored one of the goals during the group stage at the Finland 2003 edition of the tournament.

CFCfan:

Nigeria lost to Argentina in 2003 U-17 world cup. Mikel was in that game.

Not true! I believe you are talking about the U20 world cup of 2005 in Holland.

I take it back! Looking at the FIFA website, Nigeria did lose against Argentina in Finland 2003. I am not sure if MIkel was part of that team though.

Seconded.

If we crash out of this tournament, it won't be because our boys ain't good enough, it will be because our coach isn't technically sound. These boys are good but I don't think Manu Garba can bring the best outta them. Anyway, I support the team irrespective of who is in charge.

Proudly 9ja.

There you all go! reading my mind again.

CrazyMan: I would suggest that our coach substitutes all our booked players in the second half in order to avoid collecting a second booking and miss the crucial round of 16.
Your brain dey work well well! I wish say na you be our coach right now.

Do I sense some complacency from the eaglets? Those useless balls through the middle still... and poor defending from the flanks.

dabossman:

You know it's amazing how we erroneously believe that countries in the western world cannot twerk people ages if they want to. We are talking about countries that can give a human being a completely new identity just by clicking a button. I'm talking, new name, new records, new everything if they want to.

Now I'm not saying they cheat at age grade competitions, but if they want to, they can and you would never know. All this talk about "oyinbo can't lie about age, they have records is crap." If they want to, they can just by a few clicks of a mouse.

And as far as U-17 cadets graduating to the senior team is concerned, only a handful usually do for most countries. Between 2-5 at most from a squad of 21. You can google it if you want. Of those that came to Nigeria 2009 (4 years ago) only Neymar is a regular for the Brazilian senior side. Germany has Mario Gotze. Spain can probably claim Isco and Borja (who are not even regulars). Nigeria has Omeruo and Onazi. You can even go back to Korea 2007 if you want. Only a handful progress.

I agree with you bro. Albeit unlikely, looking at the swedes and brazillians in this tournament, you can't completely rule out the possibility of age cheating. You just need to place them side by side the mexicans to see the huge difference irrespective of the fact that Mexicans are not usually big people.

Weblow: Sweden defence was realy hard to break
And it is not going to get any easier with other teams especially with our team's ball through the middle being so predictable.

FILEBE: And who said Nigeria can't live peacefully? Isaac my brother from the east sored 1st goal
Yahaha my brother from the north scored the 2nd goal
Awoniyi my Yoruba brother scored the 3rd goal. How else can we preach Unity ?

After all said and done, Coach Manu Garba has got to introduce these boys to more wing play in attack. They need to learn to defend against attacks from the flanks.
Sports / Re: Sweden V Nigeria: FIFA U-17 World Cup (3 - 3) On 22nd October 2013 by aimuafigo: 6:23pm On Oct 22, 2013
Do know absolutely nothing about defending wing play.
Sports / Re: Sweden V Nigeria: FIFA U-17 World Cup (3 - 3) On 22nd October 2013 by aimuafigo: 5:57pm On Oct 22, 2013
Truth is, our boys are too predictable; final pass always through the middle. Swedish defenders know where to look for that final pass.
Sports / Re: Sweden V Nigeria: FIFA U-17 World Cup (3 - 3) On 22nd October 2013 by aimuafigo: 5:51pm On Oct 22, 2013
I really don't understand what Manu Garba is thinking with this style of play. Nigeria "Total Football" he calls it. Absolutely zero wing play and the boys apparently don't know how to defend wing play from the opposing team. Coming through the middle was so predictable from the first game. A good coach will tell his defenders to crowd that middle. Pity our coaching crew cannot see it.

imolore: these eaglets are pumpelling these mexicans in no small dimension, i mean the win is monumental.
Why do I have a feeling I will be needing a dictionary soon?
Sports / Re: Mexico V Nigeria: FIFA U-17 World Cup (1 - 6) on 19 Oct 2013 by aimuafigo: 2:56pm On Oct 19, 2013
Limaoscar: Leading by 2 goals to 1 but I must say that I am not very confident of this team for the following reasons;

1. Don't look like we have any wings.....for a Nigerian side coached by Garba and Amuneke especially

2. Consequent upon point no1. we have not had any corner kicks as the boys are hell bent on playing through the middle.

3. The boys are playing a European style short passes and the final ball is often cut-off

4. The shots on goal from other attackers apart from Iheanacho has been very awful.
5. They are show-boating a little and look over confident in front of goal

I think in the second half , the Nigerian coaches should bring in some wingers and advise good finishing on the final balls otherwise, this seemingly weak but tactically better Mexican side will win this match by at least 3-2 scoreline.
Also going forward, they need to improve on every game and take most chances in front of goal.

I wish them a win in this game.

Spot on my friend! Not a single cross from the eaglets. I don't think anyone can put it better than you have done.
