plaetton: He he he. So much hogwash.
Positive re-inforcement for those who are in doubt and whose faith meters are running red.
There are so much fallacies in this post that they could only have been intended for the brain dead. If so , then my apologies.
But since it is in the public domain, it would be a humanitarian service, especially in this tumultuous times, to put these glaring, and I must say, dangerous fallacies to the shredder of reason and common sense.
quote author=Ajibam]The debate about cessationism vs. continuism—meaning, whether all the gifts of the Spirit are still in operation today—is not just an abstract theological debate.
And If I ask you define spirit and spirituality, especially in this context, you would start speaking in tongues.
quote author=Ajibam]The debate about cessationism vs. continuism— I’m talking about people having a life-changing encounter with the living God as He moves in our midst.
A life changing encounter with god is makes no sense, considering the original belief that god is self evident and ever present in everyone's life. Unless, of course, your god is a part time god that shows up unexpectedly once in a while.
quote author=Ajibam] The first testimony I heard involved a Jewish man in his late 30s or early 40s. Although his mother, brother and sister were believers in Yeshua(Jesus Christ), he was totally lost and heavily addicted to drugs. In fact, when he showed up one night at a summer tent meeting in Ontario, he was near death.
Here is a fallacy and a grave insult to all people of the Jewish faith. Here you are deliberately making the false assumption that the young man totally was lost and heavily addicted to drugs because he was not a believer in Jesus Christ?. Do you have any proof that not believing Jesus Christ leads to drug abuse and addiction?
And yet, there he was at your bible camp. Hhhmm, I wonder what he was doing there.
If he was near death, wouldn't an emergency ward been a better place for him to be than at your summer tent? Well, for your information, in that part of the world, no organization would take anyone to a summer tent who was near death, according to you. That would have been negligent and potentially illegal. So I think you were being economical with the truth on that one.
quote author=Ajibam]
The pastor leading the meeting was a graduate of one ministry school, and he deeply values the presence of God and the moving of the Spirit. When he saw this drug-addicted young man, he said to himself, “If he makes it to the end of the week, that will be a miracle.”
The man was gaunt and weak, with death in his eyes, the result of years of heavy drug abuse, and no program had been able to help him. But people were praying for his salvation.
That night, the man encountered the risen Lord in power, and he was instantly delivered from drugs.
First, if the pastor thought that the man was near death, he was morally and legally obligated to call 911 for the man to be taken to hospital for professional care.
Second, the bolded is a silly lie reserved for kindergarten children.
If you know anything about drug addiction, you would know that it takes time to ween the body off an addicted substance that had been used for many years. No hail marys on that fact.
quote author=Ajibam]The debate about cessationism vs. continuism— The second testimony was from a young woman about 20 years old, full of joy and glowing with enthusiasm for Jesus.
As a little girl, she witnessed her father having a seizure, and she became so traumatized that from that day on, she suffered from deep depression.
On numerous occasions she tried to take her own life, sometimes accumulating pills with a plan to put an end to her pain, at other times cutting herself as an expression of her torment.
But people were praying for her as well, and one year ago, under that same tent, she encountered the same risen Lord. Her depression vanished instantly, and she has not had another suicidal thought.
Here we see that saved her from suicidal thoughts, but somehow, had not deemed it necessary to have saved her dad from the siezures that traumatized her in the first place? I guess god is selective and mysterious.
quote author=Ajibam]The debate about cessationism vs. continuism—
That is the power of the gospel! That is the power of the Spirit! And that is why it is so important that we welcome God’s Spirit in our midst, however He wants to move and whenever He wants to move.
Positive re-inforcement is always good way of shaping behaviour, especially for children, domestic pets, and lab rats. in the religious context, it serves to diminish doubts and re-inforce faith. I have, of course, argued that faith = doubts.
My point is that inspiration, courage and hope are not exclusive to the christian faith, not exclusive to any religion or philosophical system. It can be gotten from anywhere. the problem with religious testimonies is that it is dishonest , in that it is one sided. It is only recognized , accepted and publicised when there is an appearance of a positive outcome.
For every positive event in any person life, there probably 9 other negative events happening in the lives of other people that is not preached in church because, well, it does not guarantee good PR for both God and the church. So positive re-inforcement , used in this the way you have used it on this thread, is selective and dishonest in terms truly mirroring the lives of the faithful.
Cause and effect are the immutable laws of the universe.
The recent tragedy involving the son of pastor Rick Warren should be clear enough to sensible humans that no god is protecting or intervening on your behalf because of your blind faith in middle eastern myths.
If anyone deserved to be blessed and protected from calamity it was rick warren and his Family. That man had made great fame and fortune writing books and preaching that god was there to protect believers from exactly the same type of tragedy that befell his family.
Although one is not glossing over such a sad family tragedy, the fact that it was a man who greatly profited selling illusions to millions prompts those of us not encumbered by religious doctrines to point out the glaring contradictions of religious faith.
Well, what happened? It was either, 1. God was helpless against the laws of cause and effect,or 2. The devil is powerful and god was powerless against the cunning devil, or 3. God was angry and wanted to punish Rick Warren, or 4. God just did allowed to test his faith, or 5. Rick Warren is worshiping the wrong god, or 6. God does not exist in the first place.
Take your pick. I Don't argue... But I do corrects. The child commited suicide because of depression,, Mental disorder has been healed many Times By rick Warren but God didn't heal his son because it is known to only him..he don't think the way we thinks... The boy asked his father that night that "Dad,is heaven free of pain and sorrow" Rick Replied "Yes,it is..a place free of sadness and pain The boy replied Dad,if so I w ant to go there now since I won't feel. Any pain!! That night he killed himself thinking he will go to heaven,,he was depressed God knows the end of everything,,,pastor rick warren went to church the next sunday like nothing happened,,,he overcome the TEST(if I will say) He didn't doubt God for it If you haven't repented,,God loves you..come to him..I pray the holyspirit touch your heart. Remain blessed |

Tgirl4real: I am looking at this from the point of view of the purpose of Jesus Christ on earth.
Did Jesus come to create a new religion (Christianity) or to point us back to the father?
Let's look at this please in the light of scriptures, starting from the beginning - God's covenant with the Israelite and as it relates to us today.
Thanks. Firstly Christianity is a religion,,it is a kind of lifestyle acceptable to God...it means christ like!! A lifestyle like christ... Secondly It is not from idolatry,, Jesus came to repair the fallen bridge, reconciled us back To sin(2corinthians5vs18-19) |
