SportsNigeria's True Spartan - Sam Okwaraji - (1964-1989) by akinnzo(op): 6:21am On Aug 12, 2013
Some time in October 2007 on nigeriavillagesquare.com , i read this piece about Samuel Okwaraji written by IWEDI OJINMAH on the 26th of October 2007 and felt like sharing it again today.

Nigeria's True Spartan - Sam Okwaraji

Though the weather advisory for Lagos on Saturday, August 12, 1989, suggested a hot sticky day many a Nigerian soccer fan would soon remember it as cold, grey and unforgiving. And who could blame them?First of all came the unfortunate sequence of events off the field. Recently refurbished and still basking in a fresh coat of paint The National Stadium was being tested for the first time in its new FIFA approved version which had 20,000 less seats - something that seemed to have slipped by the phalanx of host officials. Shame !

Guys, it's a big shame this is happening in Nigeria. It tells how WEAK the structures NFF has put in place.
A lot happens in the lower league.ie, Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) same as in the state leagues as well.

boardroom point flies at will in that section of the league same as poor officiating. The league board compels the home team to be responsible for the refs and match commissioner's indemnity which makes it even difficult to curb bad officiating.

SportsRe: Keshi Will No Longer Select Players Alone - NFF by akinnzo(m): 12:36pm On Jul 02, 2013
@NFF, why employ a coach when you guys can make selection? why tamper with players bonuses when you didn't tell the world what your pay entails? so sad that the point man in the glass house could tell the world why the local lads shouldn't be at the confeds. CHAN, qualifiers is on but NFF are less concerned because they don't believe in what they govern.

If CAF had allowed players based outside of the continent to partake in the CHAN then we shall be hearing loud noise of why a particular player isn't in the team. do they know the local players at all?

Godfrey Oboabona has done 25 caps already, he has played against some big players yet he is rock solid, maybe Drogba will attest to this. www.footyalert..com

Flying Eagles to honour late Oliha

Nigeria will wear black arm bands in Tuesday night’s FIFA U20 World Cup game in tribute to later international Thompson Oliha, who passed away Sunday.

“FIFA have approved our request to honour the late Oliha, who served our great country during his lifetime,” said Nigeria team secretary Aliyu Ibrahim.

Oliha, 44, died after a brief illness in Nigeria.

Incidentally, Oliha featured at the 1987 U20 World Cup in Chile.

The world football governing body have also agreed for the Flying Eagles to wear their all-away kits for the Round of 16 clash against Uruguay.

Uruguay will wear their traditional sky blue top over black shorts.

Tuesday’s match will kick off at 7pm Nigerian time.

The winners will take on the winners of the match between Spain and Mexico on Saturday in Bursa.

WYC: Kayode expects bruising battle against Uruguay

Flying Eagles striker Olanrewaju Kayode has said he expects a very tough physical battle against Uruguay in a FIFA U20 World Cup clash on Tuesday.

Nigeria take on Uruguay in a Round of 16 clash with the winners booking a place in the last eight of the competition.

“Uruguay are a very hard and physical side and
we expect them to again be so on Tuesday. We won’t underrate them,” said Kayode, who broke his scoring duck against South Korea on Thursday.

“We watched them against Uzbekistan and they are really good going forward but I think their defence has not been really tested.

“We had a good game against Korea and we now hope to do even better against Uruguay to reach the quarterfinals.”

Interestingly, Kayode grabbed a late equaliser for the Flying Eagles against the South Americans in an invitational tournament in South Korea two years ago.
The match finished in a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Nigeria sports minister Bolaji Abdullahi has called to congratulate the team.

The minister spoke on phone with president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Aminu Maigari on Monday to express his delight with the performance of the U20 team in Turkey.

He will also address the team via telephone before Tuesday night’s match in Istanbul.

•Same of The Same I Guess But Why Did COD Utd Loose Character?

Football still remains a strong tool to foster unity in Nigeria yet this same tool has scared a lot of passionate fans from different league venues in Nigeria. What should one focus one on? Who is to be blamed, finding/suggesting a solution or to stay mute.

Personally I've seen a lot of league matches in Nigeria and I can say some venues are peaceful depending on the opponent while some aren't. Because football is more of an emotional thing, most fans tend to be biased and in some cases they vent their anger mostly on the referee.

Onikan Stadium, the home ground of City of David Football Club has always been a peaceful venue though they've never had a full capacity in any of their matches but it has always been peaceful. Usually you sight families, old and young come to see them play at Onikan but that changed in their week 26, Nigeria National League (NNL) match against MFM which they lost at home.

I was completely astonished to see COD united officials (some of their technical crew) in serious fight before kick off. The security men picked up a fan of the home team who trade blows
with MFM team manger 35minutes to kick off. As one thought things are under control a series of fights at different spot were seen. Though the match went on with no distraction but event outside of the pitch were enough to scare fans away from ever visiting the Onikan water front.

The scene took a much more embarrassing shape when COD Utd bus driver, Peter Iduku
took an official of Lagos FA to the cleaners. As much as I would have loved to post the pictures of this scene, I still want to see if the club will take an action to curb such act else we shall upload the video and pictures.

An official of the stadium who pleaded anonymity said he rushed to the stadium after receiving a call about the situation at the stadium, when he checked at the home team he felt sad at the approach of COD utd players who he claimed the shouted at him in their dressing room

"This is the last thing I expected from COD, can you imagine I got a call about the situation at the stadium and decided to check. I went straight to the home team and I was supprised at the way their players shouted at me," the official said.

After the match, the visiting team supporters went into the pitch with ease even as the few security men  on ground looked on.

Big Portuguese interest in Braga-bound Osuchukwu
......As Kayseri throws big opening day party

The opening ceremony of the FIFA U20 World Cup will be staged in the city of Kayseri on Friday evening after the tournament’s first game between Cuba and South Korea. The match between the Flying Eagles and Portugal will also be played at the Kayseri Kadir Has Stadium after what is expected to be a colourful opening ceremony.

Kick-off for this game is 7pm Nigerian time.

Top dignitaries expected at the opening ceremony including Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan and FIFA president Joseph Sepp Blatter. Kayseri is the fourth largest city in Turkey with a population of over a million people. It is known for its furniture and major industries. It is a beautiful hilly city, which has enjoyed tremendous transformation in the last 10 years.

Big Portuguese interest in Braga-bound Osuchukwu

The Portuguese media in Kayseri have been asking Flying Eagles forward Chidi Osuchukwu who is bound for Portuguese club Sporting Braga.

Several reporters and photographers accosted Flying Eagles media officer Samm Audu during the team’s final training at the Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri on Thursday demanding to know more about the left-sided Dolphins forward. Interview bookings have also been made with Osuchukwu after Friday’s showdown with Portugal.

Braga have announced Osuchukwu, who can play on the left side of attack or as a central midfielder, has signed a four-year deal with them pending a medical.

The Nigeria Professional Football League #NPFL official transfer window opened on the 17th of June however the league will resume on the 3rd of July.

So far the NPFL has recorded 10 away wins this season with Kano Pillars and Kwara Utd winning twice on the road. The likes of Nasarawa Utd,Nembe City,ABS FC, Rangers Int'l,Heartland and Warri Wolves have all won on away ground. Both ABS and Nembe City have alsolost twice at home while Heartland, Wikki Tourist, Sharks,Lobi Stars,Kwara Utd and 3SC have all lost at home this term.

380 goals has been scored so far with 32 draws recorded that means we had 144 home wins as well. With Rangers hosting 3SC of Ibadan at the Nnamdi Akiwe stadium Enugu today in a rescheduled match the goals might increase or probably the away win or home loss might as well increase .

•The Tale of A White Lion.

City of David Utd Football club are based in Lagos and feature in the Nigeria National League(NNL).

The 'White Lion' first had a feel of the Nigeria National League a season a go but had to wait till the last day of the abridge league of 2011/2012 to know their status.

A team that has taught football clubs in Nigeria how to
do things the right way even in a harsh economy, a team that has ignored the negatives and excuses but focused on the positives.

In their first season in the second tier league in the country, they showed their intent right from the blast but fizzled out in the later stage of season waiting till the last day of the season to know where they'll feature the next season. They got to the semi final stage of the 2012 Lagos state federation cup losing out on penalties to non league side Fame FC.

This current season the White Lion exhibited the experience they gathered the previous season and right from the blast again, they were always amongst the top four in group B of the Nigeria National League.

Just like they did last season giving out a motor cycle "okada" and other prizes to their fans during their home games, this year is filled with much fun as fans made sure they see their beloved club, COD Utd play at the Onikan Stadium, cheer the team to victory and win something.

So far COD Utd have since assumed a position of doing things the right way. They've got a functioning junior team which has produced the likes of Ismaila Podoh, a 15years old SS2 student and the youngest player to ever feature in the Nigeria National league (NNL).

Gaining promotion to the Apex league in Nigeria (NPFL) has always been their target but again the club that is gradually building a strong supporters base might say good bye to promotion ticket and focus on keeping their status intact in the NNL even as they are yet to pick a point on the road this season.

The Current champion of Lagos State Federation Cup will also feature in the Nationals (Federation Cup) in 2013 for the first time and their first battle against a lower league side Lokoja FC who were crowed champions of Kogi State last year succumb to roaring of the White Lion from Lagos .

Within the last two years the likes of Samuel Abimbola, Olabode Awakan have done their bit with the team but they've since been shown the exit door and their current coach, Austin 'Cerezo' Eguavoen who said he's happy to join COD Utd because of the structure they have in place will have a tough task of making a positive impact in the 2013 Federation Cup and keeping their status intact in the Nigeria National League.

COD Utd have since changed status from table toppers to mid table team. The big question is, will they repeat the relegation battle of last season after having a feel of how the top of the log looks like or will they make difference with less than five matches to go in the league?

HealthSteps To Lose Weight Safely by akinnzo(op): 12:42pm On Apr 15, 2010
Before Signing Up for a Weight Loss Program, Ask Questions

Does the company:

* Explain possible health risks from weight loss?
* Explain all costs?
* Include weight control over a long period?
* Have proof of success, not just praise by other people?
* Give a clear, truthful statement of how you're going to lose weight, including how much and how fast?
* Teach how to eat healthfully and exercise more?

Exercise 30 Minutes

Do at least 30 minutes of exercise, such as brisk walking, most days of the week. The idea is to use up more calories than you eat. You need to use up the day's calories and some of the calories stored in your body fat.

Eat Less Fat and Sugar

This will help you cut calories. Fried foods and fatty desserts can quickly use up a day's calories. And these foods may not provide the other nutrients you need.

Eat More Fiber-Rich Foods

Fiber-rich foods are more filling than other foods--so people tend to eat less. Insoluble fiber also may hamper the absorption of calorie-dense dietary fat. In addition, studies have found that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fiber are associated with a reduced risk of certain cancers, diabetes, digestive disorders, and heart disease. So, reaching for an apple instead of a bag of chips is a smart choice for someone trying to lose weight and stay healthy.

Tips for Cutting Calories and Fat

* Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products such as bread and rice.
* Eat only small, single servings of foods high in fat or calories.
* Eat less sugar and fewer sweets.
* Drink less alcohol or no alcohol.
* Choose foods whose labels say low, light or reduced to describe calories or fat.
* Choose 1 percent or skim milk products and reduced fat cheeses.
* Replace ice cream with fat-free frozen yogurt.
* Replace sour cream with fat-free or low-fat plain yogurt.
* Make sure fish, poultry, and meat are lean. Trim skin and fat.
* Broil, roast, or steam foods.

considering your situation you need to reduce your exercises to the minimum.like you said that you are on diet but sincerely do you break the rules?
do you still drink carbonated drinks? the coca cola, pepsi and co, the energy drinks, how often do you take milk?do you still drink coffee? do you detoxify?do you imbibe lots of water?have you stop eating red meat and eat more of fish instead?

though lots of questions but im just too sure you can loss weight if you choose too, the fact that your doctor advice you to stop exercise makes it more interesting.

if you are serious and want to really loss weight, give me a call lets meet to fashion away out.best regards, stay healthy
