Internet Explorer has long been described as the best browser to download Google Chrome, and its successor, originally codenamed Project Spartan and then launched as Microsoft Edge, made no difference. It’s no secret that the legacy version of Microsoft Edge failed to make an impact, so its adoption seriously lagged behind the one of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. By migrating to the Chromium engine, Microsoft Edge is getting a second chance to impress, and by the looks of things, so many people already like what they see. The Chromium-powered Microsoft Edge is often considered a worthy alternative to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, so it’s no surprise that a growing number of users want to abandon these two and adopt the new browser as their daily driver. Microsoft offers several methods to configure Edge as the default browser on Windows 10, including a new option that was recently added to the Canary release. First of all, it’s the traditional method that involves going to the Settings screen manually to configure the default apps on Windows 10. The path is the following: Windows 10 > Settings > Apps > Default apps > Web browser Click the name of the browser that is currently configured as default on your system and then choose Microsoft Edge from the list. But at the same time, Microsoft is also adding a new option that makes the whole thing much easier. The Canary version of the application has recently been updated with a tool to easily set Edge as the new default. You can find the new option in Microsoft Edge Canary version 82.0.439.0 and newer at the following location: Microsoft Edge > Settings > Default browser > Make default However, the existing version of Edge Canary can’t be configured as the default browser on Windows 10, with Microsoft explaining that this release is specifically supposed to be used for testing and nothing more. “The Canary channel cannot be made your default browser. Canary builds can be unstable – they’re released daily to validate bug fixes and test brand new features.” However, you can bypass this limitation and set Canary as default using the first method that involves you manually browsing to the default apps screen on Windows 10. For the time being, the “Make default” option is missing from the stable version of Edge, but there’s no doubt Microsoft will include it in the next update. And of course, it’ll work as expected, as the stable Edge is the recommended version for those not willing to deal with bugs and other issues. Thanks to the migration to the Chromium engine, Microsoft Edge is now available on macOS as well – a Linux version is also in the works, but this one doesn’t have an ETA just yet, as Microsoft said it was only looking into this idea. The new make default option in the browser would thus be aimed at all platforms where Microsoft Edge is available, so on macOS and Linux, it should help set it as the default option much faster. Of course, each platform comes with other methods of setting the default apps, but this new addition makes the whole process substantially more convenient going forward. On Windows 10, the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge replaces the legacy version as the new default automatically – the browser is offered on Windows Update but can also be installed manually using the standalone installers available on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and macOS. https://gumroad.com/7631920901610/p/what-are-teraflops https://gumroad.com/3560160922476/p/sony-s-ps5-controller-could-get-a-brilliant-smartphone-like-feature https://gumroad.com/3560160922476/p/don-t-sleep-on-resident-evil-3-it-s-even-better-than-resident-evil-2-remake https://gumroad.com/3560160922476/p/diablo-4-is-official-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-next-diablo https://gumroad.com/3560160922476/p/animal-crossing-new-horizons-release-date-news-and-features https://gumroad.com/608786029063/p/final-fantasy-7-remake-release-date-trailers-news-and-features https://gumroad.com/608786029063/p/diablo-4-wishlist-7-lessons-blizzard-can-learn-from-diablo-3 https://gumroad.com/608786029063/p/get-ready-for-ps5-with-the-latest-ps4-controller-and-game-deals-from-walmart https://gumroad.com/608786029063/p/square-enix-games-are-going-cross-gen-as-ps5-launch-looms-near https://gumroad.com/7940771466493/p/ps5-launch-titles-all-the-games-we-want-to-see-announced-for-playstation-5 |
Microsoft has long insisted for Cortana in Windows 10, but in reality, the adoption of the digital assistant on the desktop has so far been below expectations. Despite the updates that Microsoft shipped occasionally as part of Windows 10 feature update, many considered Cortana a feature that makes less sense on a desktop computer, especially because digital assistants are often described as mobile-optimized features. Microsoft apparently got the message, so the upcoming Windows 10 version 2004 will make Cortana a second-class citizen of the operating system, technically turning it into a service that’s specifically aimed at businesses and a lot less at consumers. First and foremost, Microsoft now refers to Cortana as a component of the Microsoft 365 suite. “Microsoft is announcing an updated Cortana experience in Windows 10 that will deliver more help from your assistant in Microsoft 365,” Microsoft says. Cortana itself will be fully focused on productivity, something that has been spearheading Microsoft’s work on the desktop for several years already. But at the same time, this also represents a change of focus for Cortana, as the digital assistant will be mostly aimed at capabilities that make sense in the workplace, rather than at home. “The upcoming update to Windows 10 will include access to a new Cortana experience with an emphasis on productivity, helping you quickly find the information you want across Microsoft 365,” Microsoft says. And because Cortana’s focus on consumers is fading away, Microsoft is also pulling some features that no longer make sense in the enterprise. For example, controlling the music or a connected home with Cortana will no longer be possible, Microsoft says, mostly because nobody does that at work anyway. Third-party skills in Cortana will be pulled as well as part of this new focus. Microsoft will pull Cortana from Microsoft Launcher on Android as well, which is quite a surprising decision given that the launcher is also used by businesses as well. However, this leaves the door open to other digital assistants available on Android, including Google Assistant. Cortana will also be pulled from older versions of Windows 10 that no longer receive support. The new Cortana experience will first be limited to the United States and will include options that are specifically aimed at businesses, including several related to meetings and tasks. “For English (United States) users, Cortana will assist you in better managing your schedule and tasks by staying on top of your calendar and focusing on what matters with meeting insights. You can speak or type requests to find people or files, or quickly create or query emails. You can also easily check your calendar, set a reminder, or add to your lists in Microsoft To Do,” Microsoft says. Microsoft claims its productivity-based focus for Cortana will expand in other markets as well and will include features to get answers from Bing and the ability to chat with the assistant. “AI in Microsoft 365 is driving a significant shift in how people interact with Microsoft 365 applications. Our experiences personalize and adapt to you, support you and help amplify your skills. You can see this shift in the personalized experiences we are enabling through Cortana, your personal productivity assistant in Microsoft 365. Cortana helps you stay on top of your day, save time and do your best work,” Microsoft says in a statement that clearly highlights its increased focus on businesses. At the end of the day, making Cortana a business-oriented feature is the best way to go anyway, especially as consumers have so far been less interested in such capabilities in Windows 10. Whether or not digital assistants can make an impact on Windows 10 is something that remains to be seen, but for now, they’re by far more success on mobile devices than anywhere else. https://gumroad.com/653772823544/p/final-fantasy-7-remake-s-classic-mode-makes-you-feel-like-a-back-seat-driver https://gumroad.com/653772823544/p/xbox-series-x-vs-xbox-one-x-will-it-be-worth-the-upgrade https://gumroad.com/653772823544/p/ea-sports-is-trying-to-improve-responsiveness-in-fifa-20 https://gumroad.com/653772823544/p/gta-6-news-and-rumors-when-will-grand-theft-auto-6-be-announced https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/pokemon-go-updates-all-the-news-and-rumors-for-what-s-coming-next https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/apex-legends-season-4-latest-update-news-tips-patch-notes-and-more https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/the-best-n64-games-mario-zelda-perfect-dark-and-more https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/i-got-to-see-baldur-s-gate-3-in-action-and-it-may-just-be-the-future-of-rpgs https://gumroad.com/7631920901610/p/ps5-and-xbox-series-x-will-have-cross-gen-games-does-that-put-you-off https://gumroad.com/7631920901610/p/xbox-series-x-games-will-pick-up-where-you-left-off-even-after-a-reboot https://gumroad.com/7631920901610/p/these-cheap-gaming-laptop-deals-offer-big-savings-on-the-acer-nitro-5 |
The headlines on many tech-watching sites this week amounted to one big whaaat? An anti-tracking feature in Apple's Safari browser was actually exposing private browsing habits, according to researchers outside Apple. This was all about the Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) implemented by Apple's Safari browser. The Intelligent Tracking Prevention tool became available in 2017. Ivan Mehta in TNW expanded: "In 2017, Apple rolled out its ITP technology, one of the most highly regarded privacy protection kits for the web around the world. The system clears out first-party cookies regularly and blocks third-party cookies by default, making it difficult for advertisers to track users." The head-scratching grew more intense. The researcher team from Google told Apple about the problem with some flaws back in August 2019 and in December an Apple blog post said browser issues were addressed. An Apple engineer said in the blog WebKit in December that the matter had been addressed—the news was encouraging to any user worried about tracking fallouts. Apple had produced a fix and said thank you to Google. But researchers at Google raised issues still. Financial Times had a much quoted story, and other news gatherers also talked about, a published paper by Google researchers that found problems, and the paper was published on Jan. 21. "Information Leaks via Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention" is the title of the Google report; the authors were Artur Janc, Krzysztof Kotowicz, Lukas Weichselbaum and Roberto Clapis. Their focus still is the tool that Apple offered to counter web tracking. Actually, according to the Google team's report on this, the Information Security Engineering team at Google first learned about the flaws just during "a routine security review." That is when they found security and privacy issues in Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention design. In the Google report, they wrote: "The authors of this report believe strongly in improving the privacy posture of the web and applaud Safari developers' ongoing efforts in this area. At the same time we would like to note that all changes to the web platform that affect its fundamental security properties (such as modifying the behavior of cross-site resource fetches) carry the risk of compromising user privacy and/or security unless special care is taken to understand their impact on the platform. We look forward to collaborating with Apple on future security and privacy improvements to the web." https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/xiaomi-s-latest-28-wireless-earbuds-are-so-playful-you-ll-want-them-right-now https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/not-even-samsung-wants-to-abandon-galaxy-s8-and-note-8 https://gumroad.com/7384952919099/p/samsung-galaxy-fold-2-rumored-to-launch-in-q2 |
Facebook is believed to be working on adding facial recognition to the Messenger app, essentially providing users with a new protection layer when they want to prevent unauthorized access to their conversations. An early version of the feature was spotted by developer Jane Manchun Wong in Facebook’s Messenger app, and at first glance, it works just like the biometric locks available in WhatsApp. Users will be allowed to enable facial recognition authentication from a dedicated screen and choose when they want the lock to come into effect, with the available options currently including 1 minute, 15 minutes, or 1 hour after leaving Messenger. “When enabled, you will need to use Face ID to unlock the app. You can still replay [sic] to messages from notifications and answer calls if the app is locked. Your Face ID is not transmitted to or stored by Facebook,” the description of the feature reads. If “Face ID” rings any bells to you, it’s because this is the name used by Apple for the facial recognition system available on the iPhone X and newer models. However, Facebook is very likely to rename it to something else before the feature goes live for everyone, especially because it’ll be launched on Android devices too. Wong says the screenshot was made on an Android device anyway, so Face ID is most likely just a placeholder for now in the Messenger app. "Privacy concerns" It goes without saying that some people are concerned enabling facial recognition in the Messenger app would put their privacy at risk given the scandals Facebook has recently been involved in. However, Facebook collecting Face ID data from an iPhone shouldn’t normally be possible, at least theoretically. A Face ID scan only returns an authentication success or failure to the service, without transmitting any information, which basically means that Facebook doesn’t receive any data. Of course, Facebook will most likely share more details on how its facial recognition system works when the feature is ready for production devices. https://www.hackerearth.com/@Lords-Mobile-free-gems-2020-hack-Android-iOS https://connect.unity.com/t/lords-mobile-free-gems-2020-hack-android-ios https://www.hackerearth.com/@Ark-of-War-gold-hack-2020-Android-iOS https://connect.unity.com/t/ark-of-war-gold-hack-2020-android-ios https://www.hackerearth.com/@Champion-Strike-unlimited-ruby-hack-Android-iOS https://connect.unity.com/t/champion-strike-unlimited-ruby-hack-android-ios https://www.hackerearth.com/@Warhammer-Combat-Cards-free-plasma-hack-Android-iOS |
