Let's take the position you mentioned, RB. Real Madrid had Carvajal, he was injured so Odriozola took his place. Odriozola also got injured so Nacho took his place. Nacho got injured so Lucas Vasquez, who's a right winger, took his place. Lucas got injured and Ferland Mendy, who's a left back, moved crossfield and took his place. Mendy got injured so Valverde, who's a central midfielder, took his place. Valverde got injured so Vinicius, who's a left winger, moved crossfield and back to take his place.

Incase you aren't counting. that's 7 (seven) different players who played Right Back for Real Madrid last season alone and only 2 of them are natural right backs. Depth can only take you so far and you have to learn to improvise

But remove all the UCLs won by both Zidane and Pep. Pep won 2 in 3 years. Zidane won 3 in 3 years. So not bad for both. Yet, lets strip the UCLs from both of them. Let's see what is left.

I can picture the image of Zidane quickly using his both hands to cover his groin region to hide the third leg that would be left dangling once the UCLs is stripped and thus exposing his unclothedness.

But Pep, you will see so much more. He has a style. He is a visionary and a revolutionist. He's a tactician and a sporting psychologist.

Pep redefined the way football should play. Pep has managed in 3 different countries like Spain, Germany and England with resounding success. Pep is like the flagship when it comes to modern coaching.

Zidane? I dont even remember how a Zidane team plays. Cross and nod maybe. Yes he won a couple of UCLs but he won't go down as some of the greatest coach of this generation. Not great with tactics. Can't remember a revolutionary pattern that could be easily associated with his coaching style. I think he was lucky with the set of excellent players he already met on ground at Real Madrid, players almost at the cusp of success after being drilled by Mourinho and Ancelloti. He just led them to the finishing point.

But Pep is the best coach in the last 10 years. See the way ManCity is playing, you know this man always have a plan and he has the personality to transmit it to the players and change their mentality towards football.

I feel bad for Xavi too though. Laporta, after his reelection early days clearly said he thought Xavi was still green and needed more experience. Suddenly, he thinks that he's the best thing to happen to the coaching department.


I really wish things turn out well for this man. I just cant bring myself to see Xavi being talked down upon abeg. I just can't.
