Literature / Re: Poetic Rage: Poets Rating Poets by AlexStone: 11:59pm On Jul 19, 2010
I am a struggling writer I guess. Below is something I wrote a while ago, but I have 100's of others that might be of same quality or a bit better. All of my work is copywritten, but I'm unsure of what to do from here. Can anyone give me a hand?

There’s a place I've found where no man stands conflicted,
Free of the damage these sins have inflicted,
Unbound from these ropes labeled "evil and wicked",
If not only in my dreams I wish this place existed.
Cause there is no balance to there reality and my sense of fiction,
So this story's torn in half, I'll read if you listen.

When he was a boy there were dreams of fame and fortune,
Despite a drunk for a dad, this reality he was born in.
A dream to write a book, but his father’s words tore him,
"When you show me a check, I'll believe you're a writer."
The day I ran away with nothing, the future never looked brighter.

I grabbed what I could and struggled to survive,
Nevermind the lack of food, I never felt more alive.
And through these eyes, it was clear some parts of me died,
And I wonder sometimes, if you ever believed your own lies.

You never understood "fortune" held for me a different meaning,
To be content with this life, no drinking or need of verbal beatings.
Penniless and under stars sleeping, I hope someday these words have you thinking,
The same way you did to me, in my youth you deceived me.

I wanted to be like you, to defend people of this country,
A 20 year man with a peaceful deployment to Germany,
15 of those telling lies, filling young mens minds with greed.
You praised the notion of being "just like your old man",
Believing in your bullshit, it wasn't long before I heard from Uncle Sam.

You called it "great money", I called it Iraq,
After one tour of affliction, I promised to never go back.
So I did every drug I could for them to kick me out,
The truth in black and white, you read it here and now,
The embarrassment to your legacy, my patriotic doubt.

You fired many weapons, but at targets with no eyes,
It only took one bullet to call out every old mans lie.
Now I'd slit my own throat to change timing and dates,
Because hell holds a special place for the one sin I made,
And my fate is sealed from an alcoholics mistakes.
I was too young, naive, but now I can admit it,
You should switch me tickets, in heaven vodkas not permitted.

You ask now why I live my life in woods of isolation,
"You can always re-enlist full time, fight for your great nation,"
If I could afford the gasoline, I'd burn every recruiting station.
I live off the land now, cause I'd rather not be included,
By the laws of mortal men, or temptations they are glued in,
I'd rather be an Indian, before we burned their culture to ruins,
I apologize if my guilty conscience seems to be such a nuisance,
It's easier to banish a son with his regrets in seclusion.

I'll spend my time left preaching right and wrong,
Now that I know the difference, you might not like the end of my song,
I know that there's only one judge when it’s all said and done,
I know sleep comes easier for you cause you didn’t hold that gun.
I know to treat strangers better than even best of friends,
To be a part of their happiness, part of every helping hands lend,
Because only in selflessness can we make our amends.
From a father to a drunk, did any of this make sense?
Before you leave this world I hope you at least peak over this fence,
To see your sons dream unfold and finally commence,
But you killed it with your liquored breath, and to me you're already dead,
And to save others from my fate, I'll read these words to every friend.

Rap Battles / For Those Who Can Flow. by AlexStone: 11:39pm On Jul 19, 2010
This is something I wrote yesterday when I woke up. I'm looking for someone out there who can put my words to a beat, preferrably a rap one. All of my words are copywritten. If anyone out there takes a look, likes what they see, this guns is for hire.

The Path I chose was rather one I created,
In this story every roads related,
The toll left me emaciated, tried to make it,
Came up short, my critics bellies satiated.
So Bleep this car, these tires deflated,
An empty tank, wondering if this script is fated.
Could you stand elevated through this mind of revelations?
Feeling like your hearts split into different destinations,
Beating to a different cadence, empty cause this vessels vacant,
Hands to fists, I can’t shake it, wish to give an explanation,
Why this soul went rogue to the best of my guesstimations.

These walls hold me secluded, by nature I’ve eluded,
To look back on the past so tonight I sit the student,
Before I wouldn’t refute it, but this title sits disputed,
Destitute and unproven, this struggling heart diluted,
Watch me while I do it, lace this verse and prove it.
Toss it up and chew it, consider these words my fluid,
Try to substitute my sense of intuition, but you can’t stop this movement.
Cause every phrase runs fluent, no competition could stand congruent.
I lit this candle, but they were the ones who blew it,
By blocking a dream unlived, these roadblocks such a nuisance,
If you lost your faith, I hope this next stanza renews it,
Before they tear me down again, I’ll match these words with music.
Build this castle out of adjectives, careful don’t abuse it,
Power leads to respect, but also creates confusion.

I am the ghost, the one writing in the shadows,
The poet with the pen fighting writing block battles,
You can shake this hand, but this conscience never rattles.
Tested and confirmed by the souls of these assholes,
So far gone now, might as well been swallowed by black holes,
Because they thought they could reach the tip of my flag pole,
But I’m a different breed, hard to please never on my knees,
I lacked a college degree, but no one ever took me off these feet,
My roots stretching through your minds, hard to resist a disease so sweet,
This natural resource of intellect that could never completely deplete,
I could fire literary salvos from my tongue faster than you can press delete.
An outcast with enough rhyming schemes to tie together any theme,
No matter the price of admission, I’ve reserved all of you seats,
So you can watch in disbelief as I finally produce the matching beat,
The one that pounds harder even after it hits repeat,
No fees for this demonstration, shock and awe serves as your receipt.

I dedicate this to nobody, because I’ve seen greed in the ugly,
Where they rely on others to make them their own money,
Hate me or Love me, now this bee quits making their honey,
Build my own comb to avoid something inhuman and unloving,
No pushing or shoving, or you’ll feel the sting and numbing,
I’ll walk through open flames when the rest of the worlds running,
Since patience is rewarded to the quick and the cunning,
So I open this box, let Pandora see me coming,
Because the worlds they fear are the same ones I’m hugging,
Pulling and lugging, I carry these fears because I own nothing,
A step from the past when every soul could muster something.

And now I realize there isn’t anything left here to prove,
I’ve been shunned with every single written submission,
Not what I had envisioned, I read every detail, shit I even listened,
Bent myself backwards to complete this final mission.
Write these words to link with a melodious fission,
So just please listen, see this grey and close the distance.
If it’s something you can vision,
Then you be this engine and I’ll be the pistons,
Be the coin to every well you wished in.
But for everyone against me, you can be the bowl I pissed in,
Bodies will be missing, insistent on resisting,
Every offer they give, this future I’m predicting,
You won’t be a part of this glow I’m emitting,
Because you bleeped me once, no need in fixing,
Past relationships I’m calling quits, matching wits,
Calling out the counterfeits, taking every benefit,
CallinTony Stark, we’re making new elements.

Let me know what you think about this, whipped it up yesterday. And does anyone know where lyrics like this might be needed? Thanks.
