How wonderfully state police would have worked in Nigeria. |
You should always remember your constitutional right to personal liberty when asked to write a statement in the police. Section 35 subsection 2 of the Constitution provides that "Any person who is arrested or detained shall have the right to remain silent or Avoid answering any question until after consultation with a legal practitioner or any other person of his own choice". Remember the word "shall" above means must. If any police tries to force you to write a statement against your wish, just cite this section of the Constitution and you will be at a safe side. But don't forget to always call a lawyer on time. Cheers. |
