Science/Technology / Microsoft Prepares Its Browser For The Transition To HTTPS by allypkn: 3:54pm On Jun 09, 2021
Actually like Google Chrome, which is right now the main Chromium program, Microsoft Edge is upholding for a safer web, and urging everybody to utilize HTTPS is one approach to do this.

So beginning this week, Microsoft Edge 92 (right now in the Dev channel) accompanies a see of an element that permits clients to constrain a HTTPS association when stacking sites.

As such, when this component is empowered, Microsoft Edge will initially endeavor to stack the HTTPS form of a site, hence attempting to ensure the association is secure.

"Programmed HTTPS changes your associations with sites from HTTP to HTTPS on locales that are almost certain to help the safer convention. The rundown of HTTPS-competent sites depends on Microsoft's examination of the web, and empowers a safer association on countless top spaces. Programmed HTTPS redesigns your association just on HTTPS-proficient spaces of course to forestall association mistakes and potential execution issues," Microsoft clarifies.

In case you're running at any rate Microsoft Edge rendition 92 as a component of the Dev or Canary channels, you can undoubtedly empower the new element from the security screen in the settings menu. The switch is called:

Consequently change to safer associations with Automatic HTTPS

Coming in Edge 92 to everybody

Valuable, nonetheless, is that you may experience some page stacking mistakes in the event that you power Edge to utilize HTTPS solely without permitting a fallback to HTTP. This is on the grounds that a few destinations don't utilize HTTPS right now, yet Microsoft says a few clients may really like to stay with this methodology for better security.

"Notwithstanding security, we realize that efficiency and execution are top of psyche for our clients. At the point when empowered, Automatic HTTPS defaults to updating routes just on areas that are probably going to help HTTPS. Checking to HTTPS-proficient spaces diminishes the probability of association disappointments, just as possible execution or dependability issues with "attempt HTTPS first and fall back to HTTP" approaches," it says.

Microsoft is as yet in the testing stage for this component, however it ought to be important for the Edge 92 update when it arrives at the creation channel.

Phones / The Oneplus 9's Hasselblad Cameras Will Be Used To Capture A Natural Phenomenon by allypkn: 11:51pm On Mar 31, 2021
After announcing the flagship OnePlus 9 series earlier this week, OnePlus has started teasing an upcoming social media event that’ll show you something “you’ve never seen before in ‘True Colors.’ “
An extremely rare phenomenon that's almost invisible to the naked eye

The event revolves around an “extremely rare” natural phenomenon that’s almost impossible to see with the naked eye and kicks off Monday, March 29. The Hasselblad camera-equipped OnePlus 9 series can capture it, though, and the shots will be shared across social media.

What the natural phenomenon is remains unclear, but it looks like it’ll last three days. It’s not known whether OnePlus will mark the occasion with any special offers — only time will tell. But in the meantime, the brand is encouraging customers to share photos with the hashtag ‘#TrueColors.’

The event ends on Wednesday, March 31, in the lead-up to the release of the OnePlus 9 Pro on April 2. So far, the reception to OnePlus’ latest flagships has been impressive. In fact, first-day pre-orders were over triple that of the OnePlus 8 series. For those of you that may have missed the announcement, the OnePlus 9 Pro features the Snapdragon 888, up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a curved-edge adaptive 120Hz display, and all of the extras you’d expect from an Android flagship in 2021.

The standard and more affordable OnePlus 9, on the other hand, offers much of the same with a few changes like a flat 120Hz display that’s static and a downgraded camera system without the telephoto camera.

Both smartphones help up well in our reviews recently, with the OnePlus 9 Pro beating the Galaxy S21 Ultra to achieve the highest score so far this year.

Science/Technology / Motorola Could Be Working On Flagship Phone With Quad-curved Display by allypkn: 6:14am On Dec 31, 2020
Motorola could be working on a flagship smartphone, as new renders of a mysterious handset from the company have now surfaced online. These renders seem to be of a flagship phone, and it could be the same flagship phone whose retail box photo was recently shared by Lenovo executive Chen Jin. In any event, the renders show that the upcoming Motorola handset may have a quad-curved display and a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

Two renders of a mysterious Motorola phone and a schematic sketch of the back have surfaced online. These were spotted first on Weibo, as per a report by China's CNMO. The renders show the front of the phone, and it is seen to have a hole-punch cutout placed in the top centre. The sides are all curved, including the top and bottom edges. There are no side buttons on the phone, and it remains to be seen how physical buttons will be integrated on this handset.

The schematic sketch shows that the phone may have a quad rear camera setup that comprises three sensors in one line and a fourth sensor placed on the side. There's also a flash sitting on the opposite side. All the sensors are placed inside a rectangular module on the top-centre of the back panel. There's no rear fingerprint sensor seen in the schematic sketch, hinting that it may have a under-screen fingerprint scanner.
If this is indeed the Motorola flagship phone that was reported earlier, it can be speculated to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Reports claim that this phone may have a high refresh rate AMOLED panel, along with support for fast charging as well as reverse wireless charging. The retail box image shared by Jin doesn't offer much detail, but hints that the company is indeed working on a new smartphone to launch in China soon. It remains to be seen whether this is the same handset or Jin was teasing something completely different.

TV/Movies / Chris Pine Still Sounds Enthusiastic, Though Star Trek Hasn’t Revealed Plans For by allypkn: 9:44pm On Sep 08, 2020
Today is the 54th anniversary of the premiere of the original Star Trek on television. While the show would only run for three seasons, and barely get that, the series would launch one of the most successful science fiction franchises ever. And While Star Trek is doing quite well for itself on its original home of television via a pair of CBS All Access series, and even a brand new animated comedy, the future of Star Trek on the big screen is still a big question.

The Star Trek films which introduced an alternate timeline and a collection of new actors to play the time-honored roles of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the rest, hasn't seen a new entry, or even a confirmed announcement of one, since Star Trek Beyond debuted in 2016 and while there are, at present, no plans for a fourth film in that series, if Paramount decides it wants to make one, Chris Pine sounds quite excited to get back in the captain's chair.

In a recent appearance on the Things Are Going Great For Me podcast, Chris Pine, who plays Captain James T. Kirk, says that, while he knows nothing about what the future could hold, he would love to play Kirk again if given the chance...

The "corporate restructuring" that Chris Pine refers to here is the fact that Paramount has a new President in Emma Watts, the former head of 20th Century Fox who left there following the Disney acquisition. It's been reported that one of her top priorities in her new job is figuring out where to go next with the Star Trek franchise. There are multiple options on the table as Legion creator Noah Hawley has recently been working on a script and the project that Quentin Tarantino had been teasing for some time also has a script, though at this point it seems unlikely Tarantino would actually direct it.

While it's not known for sure, it's believed that either of those two ideas would not include the "Kelvin timeline" cast of Chris Pine et al. Of course there is also the project that was initially promised to be the new Star Trek 4, that would see Chris Hemsworth return as George Kirk in a time travel storyline. That project reportedly died after Paramount couldn't get the cost of production down. This included attempts to get both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth to take a pay cut.

The question isn't really if we'll ever get another Star Trek movie, it's when. Of course, what that movie will look like is also a big question. Most of the existing cast seems interested in coming back, and Star Trek Beyond, was far from a flop, so perhaps Chris Pine will get his chance to return.

Webmasters / Only 0.9% Of Huawei’s Latest Flagship Is Made In The US by allypkn: 8:27pm On Jun 28, 2019
Huawei is no longer allowed to use software and hardware developed by American firms following an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump in mid-May, so the company is now looking for alternatives to build its devices using components made elsewhere.

And according to a teardown made by Nikkei, it may not be so difficult for Huawei to reduce reliance on American companies, as they account for only 0.9% of the parts used in the company’s latest flagship, the P30 Pro.

Nikkei says only 15 components used on the P30 Pro come from the United States, and these include the DRAM supplied by Micron, the Gorilla protection glass developed by Corning, and the printed circuit board made by Compeq.

The total cost of the parts built in the United States is $59.36, out of a final component cost of $363.83.
"Japanese manufacturers shipping most parts"

China, on the other hand, accounts for 4.9% of the Huawei P30 Pro, as 80 components used on the device are manufactured in the country. The total cost of Chinese components is $138.61.

Most of the Huawei P30 Pro, however, comes from Japan, as manufacturers here supply more than half of the components on this smartphone (53.2% or 869 parts). However, the costs of the Japanese components isn’t as big as you’d expect it to be, reaching only $83.71. This shows that the United States ships essential parts for the manufacturing of the P30 Pro.

The biggest challenge for Huawei is to find alternative suppliers or to build these parts supplied by American companies in-house in order to reduce the impact of the US ban on its smartphone plans.

Meanwhile, Huawei is hard at work on finalizing its very own Android replacement, which according to people familiar with the matter, should go live as soon this fall on Chinese devices.

Webmasters / Microsoft Partially Fixes Windows 10 May 2019 Update USB Bug by allypkn: 12:47pm On Jun 12, 2019
Microsoft has partially resolved a bug in Windows 10 May 2019 Update that blocked the upgrade when external USB devices or memory cards are connected to the computer.

This is an issue that was acknowledged by Microsoft at a time when the May update was still in testing as part of the Windows Insider program, but also impacted the first public build of version 1903.

As per the software giant, the process of Windows 10 May 2019 Update could fail with error “This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10” because of inappropriate reassignment during installation.
"Work in progress on full fix"

The bug was partially resolved on June 11 when Microsoft released new cumulative updates for Windows 10, and while the upgrade to version 1903 should now run smoother on some devices, the software giant says you should still remove unnecessary USB devices when installing the May update.

“This issue has been partially resolved but to ensure seamless update experience, the safeguard hold is still in place. In the short term, we recommend you do the following workaround to update to Windows 10, version 1903. Remove all external media, such as USB devices and SD cards, from your computer and restart installation of the Windows 10, version 1903 feature update. The update should then proceed normally,” the software giant says.

Microsoft adds that it’s still working on a full fix, and it should be rolled out in an upcoming update.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update is being pushed to devices in stages via Windows Update. However, all Windows 10 users can now manually check for updates to begin the download of the May update, while those who want to force the upgrade and skip any blocks that could exist on their devices can turn to the Media Creation Tool.
