Could Nigerians becoming shareholders of the Refinery change the way they respond to its rising petrol prices? Burob: |
The real question is whether Nigerians can invest in the refinery and still freely demand fair fuel prices. |
The proposed sale of shares in the Dangote Refinery to Nigerians raises an interesting question: could turning Nigerians into shareholders make them less critical of the refinery's fuel pricing? At a time when rising petrol prices are putting pressure on household budgets and businesses, the idea of asking Nigerians to invest in the same company whose pricing decisions affect their livelihoods deserves public discussion. |
Consumer purchasing power being reduced and inflation not easing. Isn't that double squeeze for Nigerians? Also, you can already see the pressure in the FMCG sector. Many companies are increasingly relying on consumer promotions to stimulate demand and clear out old stock. Some of their distributors have as high 6 month stock in their warehouses. I just hope it doesn't get worse than it already is. |
I’m genuinely concerned about the direction of some of the government’s economic policies. The idea of deliberately suppressing consumers’ purchasing power in the hope of increasing government revenue worries me. How sustainable is revenue growth if it comes at the expense of household welfare and consumer demand? We keep hearing about economic growth, but for many households, that growth doesn’t seem to be translating into improved living standards. Economic growth should ultimately be felt beyond GDP figures. It should translate into stronger purchasing power, healthier businesses, better jobs and improved household welfare. Government revenue matters. But so does the economic capacity of the people who generate that revenue through consumption and investment. I sincerely hope the government recognise the unintended consequences of these policies and make the necessary adjustments before the pressure on households and businesses becomes even more difficult to reverse. |

Bought a couple for my company's field team. Initial investment cost looks reasonable, but total cost of ownership over time can be close to getting known brand. After sales services can also be worrisome. Parts replacement are generally expensive, and sometimes unavailable. You'll be told to wait for between 2 to 3 months after making full payment. The relatively best of breed so far has been the GAC. They hardly develop major fault and parts are usually available. The JAC from Elizade are also reliable, but spares are quite expensive |
Interest rate is usually per annum. The actual return using your assumed rate for 91 days will be 1/4 of the annual return, less 10% for FG. Also, 25% is ambitious. 15.6% to 16.5% is more realistic for TB. Roseodd: |

The break even point is 1.58m monthly gross. If you earn less, you pay less tax compared with old tax system. But if you earn more than 1.58m monthly gross, you pay higher tax compared to last year. The further your earning is from the break-even point, the higher or lower the tax impact |
Can I come inspect at 6m? |
