U r a professional sir. This was wat i was explainin on NL dat scanner did not detect dis catalyst bt my mech detected it by listening to d sound of my exhaust and a NL mockingly called my mech a human scanner. Lol

plz sir dnt be annoyed by my seeming repeated question, i just want to know which of d catalyst dat is faulty so i can order a new one on ebay.

ask the panel beater guy if exhaust is leaking, if he says no, then catalytic converter is bad.

Ok sir. Sorry 4 too many questions oo the p0420 bank 1 does it point to a particular catalyst? So i can know which replacement part to buy.
Only ur judgement do i trust.

This the the undercarriage catalyst. There is another just around the oil filter side you can easily see it from the bonnet. Close to is is an oxygen sensor like a plug with wire.

As mayor said let him check it as all indications point to faulty catalyst. We have the same engine and that plug with wire thing is bank 1 sensor 1 out of the 3 oxygen sensors I have changed that before on mine.

when I scanned it gave me a specific code relating to that oxygen sensor so I am sure you have a faulty or below efficient catalyst converter.

That's not a catalytic converter my dear. That's just some pieces of wire mesh stocked inside the pot. Let them have a look at what I told you. You should have another just like this pot at the back of your engine. Your mecho is just playing some snake and ladder match here

No it wasn't removed today. Close to 6 months. I cnt remembr about d nets but it looked like normal mosquitoe net, not d iron ones o

No. This was d 1 that was removed frm my ride. It had nothing inside, but d replacement had nets.

You still need to replace the one up just at the rear of the engine. You should have one there.but before then let them bring it out and have it checked. Might have detoirated. Your engine should be 1MZ-FE

when you changed the catalyst before did he buy a new one, a tokunbo or he constructed his own version. Also did you bother to see the replacement if it looks anything like spoilt one in terms of size?

Tnx dear, it was a direct tokumbo with nets inside. The one dat was removed from mine was open without any net. Dat one eliminated a sound like BOOOOOOOMMM! from d exhaust.

Scan result says:
P0420: catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1)

it's a 99 siena sir

Go to a technician with scanner, Let him clear all codes in the vehicle then drive the car till the CEL comes on and then rescan and let me know codes generated.

I have never touched my catalyst or had issues with though since I bought the car but always ensure when you have catalyst issues and you can't afford to buy a new OEM replacement deleting the catalyst and using O2 defouler is better than allow kazeem to construct it using non recommended parts which can cause engine failure.

clear codes drive vehicle and rescan let's know the codes

When the technician scanned it it actually showed
p0420: catalyst system efficiency below threshold(bank 1) and then he cleared d codes. Just a bit worried d codes would return.

@mayor2013 when i replaced d pic of d one u sent me it didnt throw any code, it was just by listening to d sound of my engine when i revv high dat my mech detected it

i have replaced this b4. B4 i did d first replacement it was discovered dat d catalyst melted inside. That net-like stuff. It wasnt yanked off. So i really do not know d condition of d one i replaced sometime ago.
Plz i googled and found p0420 was referring me to 02 sensor dat stays close to d manifold. I rlly dnt knw.

sticky brakes, your issue is still the brake pads and or the brake discs. The smoke is either due to oil on roads getting to it or your brake lines is leaking fluid thereby dropping on the hot surface around there.

The easiest way to do a DIY would be jacking both front legs up move the gear to neutral and roll the tires. if they turn freely good if not then you have a binding brake.

Let the mechanic return the brake shoes it's like one of them is extremely faker than the other.

nurey problem has bn resolved. The problem was d brake caliper, it was bad and they serviced it and heating and smoke went away. After all these works CEL illuminated and when it was scanned the p0420 catalytic something bank 1 was detected. Plz how do i resolve this? Do u have a pictoral view of p0420 catalytic bank 1? I changed one catalyst for 25k sometime in april, the one dat stays under/middle of the vehicle on d exhaust line b4 d silencer. Could it b d same catalyst? Plz note dat the one i changed for 25k did not read on d scanner bt my mech was able to detect it by sound of d vehicle. I forgot to mention dat my fuel consumption has really tripled

@nurey weldone oo! Works bn done on ur siena r similar or almost same work done on my siena few days ago.

Plz my front tyre, the driver side is always hot and sometimes bring out smokes wit burning smell. I changed my brake pad and brake disc to a new one. I complained to my mech he said it's d newly changed brake pad dat it needs time to smoothen. This is d 5th day now yet no improvement. Plz wat cud b d problem?

you are welcome. congratulations. Though you would have been safer with brandnew shocks even if it would last a year, two or even more. Those so called belgium can fail in a month but you tried. Easy easy on potholes.

Yes u r right. I actually paid for new ones for front and rear but my mech advised against installing new ones in front, dat belgium is best. I had to heed to his counsel.

I wish to thank everyone for ur assistance so far. AutoElectNg, nurey and all. My vehicle is back to normal, noiseless engine/movement
I had to remove all four shocks that was raised, bought a new replacement, changed the camber, installed new brake pad and viola, problem went away.
Now i know that all the while i've been hating on my vehicle for being too low to the ground and damaging my bumper was a shock problem.
I've never enjoyed this ride before like now, tires r solid to d ground i hardly feel potholes anymore.

@nurey, i got the shocks at 16k for the two front(belgium) and 15k for the rear(new ones/china)

In November last year my mechanic bought for front both sides at 20k brandnew Chinese knockoff and I am still using till date the rear he says was 15k for brandnew but haven't changed it yet.

He gave me tokunbo for both front at 30k or so and I rejected it outright. I have been using the new one and so far no wahala.

Thenk u somuch. I have to settle for new one. Plz one more thing. Can d adjustment made on d shock in any way distort d spring? I intend to just get d shock alone.

The spring and shock of the sienna is an entire entity individually. The spring can be separated from the shock and they are both bound together by a bolt. You actually have to apply pressure on the spring for it to shrink enough to bolt it on the absorber for the front. The rear would be easier since both are separated entirely side by side.

The rear springs looks a bit smaller compared to the front springs. This one that you said welding is involved I think if the springs had been cut it has already been compromised and useless to revert it back to stock (don't let them weld the cut away part the welding will never stand the force and pressure it was originally assigned to).

your solution is to buy new stock springs and fit then upgrade your tyre or rim which ever works best for you

you are right sir. I dnt knw hw to describe it but when u look into my shock frm d tyre u'll c d welded part above where it originally was. And plz sir do u hav an idea of price of siena shock front and rear? Between belgium shock and new one(china) which is advisable?

You need to reverse the work done on that car back to factory spec.Then you would be fine.
