The season 3 of the Most Beautiful Queen in Abia State 2023 Pageantry powered by GIF MEG and sponsored by a lot of brands like Gavic logistics,FCMB, Supakomando, BellaOat, Afrikmeg and many more was held yesterday 29th July,2023 at Micheal Okpara auditorium at Umuahia , Abia State .

The contest started on December 2022 with over 40+ contestants who showed interest and registered,and Okorie Stella a native of Bende LGA of Abia State emerged as the Winner of the contest,and was also crowned the 3rd most beautiful queen in Abia state with a cheque of N3.5 million naira worth of prize

[size=8pt][/size]A Lecturer of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana Afikpo Ebonyi State, in the Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering identified as Engr.Ernest Ugwunna Osuagwu has bagged a second master degree in renewable energy engineering with a Distinction.

The Lecturer graduated today 24th July, 2023 from Kingston University London,one of the top universities in United Kingdom

Speaking with our correspondence, Engr. Osuagwu disclosed that the certificate costs him 15000 pounds on tuition alone naira equivalent of 16.5 million

The Student's Union Government of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo in Ebonyi State has commenced the eletricification of classes in the campus.

This was made known by the Student's Union Directorate of Information of the Institution,Comr.Amos Mercy Adaugo,She said that the project was targeted at providing light and other electrical fitting that are bad in classes around campus, this will go a long way in tackling security issues as we indend to lighten up every edge of the campus with this project.

"With this progress we intend to also notify the management about the situation of street lights and we hope to get them back on track soon"she added.

President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has signed into law the Bill for an Act to alter provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to change the names of Afikpo North and Afikpo South Local Government Areas.

The Bill was sponsored by Senator Michael Ama Nnachi in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in a report of the Senate Committee on review of the 1999 constitution (fifth alteration) Bills 2022, was among the 16 Constitution amendment Bills assented to by the president on Friday.

With the presidential assent,Afikpo South and Afikpo North Local Government Areas are now to be known and addressed as Edda Local Government and Afikpo Local Government, respectively.

It will be recalled that the ‘Edda’ people of in Ebonyi South Senatorial District had consistently demanded to be addressed as ‘Edda Local Government ’.EDDA LGA

In 1950, Edda people were Edda Council. In April 1955, they became Edda County Council (equivalent of today's LGA) The Nigerian Civil war destroyed that.

In 1981, Imo government created Edda LGA. In 1983, Buhari’s coup destroyed it.

In 1991, IBB without consulting them revived the old EDDA LGA and without asking them tagged them AFIKPO SOUTH

Ogbuoji was the first chairman and in protest, he started designating it as Afikpo South (EDDA) LGA The LGA Council passed a motion asking for the name to be changed because THERE IS NO AFIKPO MAN IN THAT LGA, Only Edda

In 2004, two Ebonyi House members representing Edda, Hon. Ben Obasi (late) and Hon. Ugorji Ama Oti initiated a bill to change the name In 2006, Hon Irem Ibom of the House of Representatives initiated a bill to change it until presidential assent k!lled it.

In 2012, Senator Ogbuoji revived the effort to actualize that. It succeeded and later the president didn't sign.

In 2020, Senator Mike Nnachi renewed that effort which is what we have now on going Even Hon. Iduma Igariwey Enwo , a non-Edda man sees the benefit and supports it.

And finally on 17th march,2023 President Buhari signs the bill into law.

Dr. Felix Attah has been inaugurated as the Rector Of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana in Afikpo North Local Government Area Of Ebonyi State.

Dr. Attah was appointed as the Substantive Rector of the institution sometime last month and he was handed over as the new Rector by Ven.Dr. Ogbonnaya Ibe Enwo who handed over all the documents and authorities accrued by his office to newly appointed Rector.


The handover ceremony was witnessed by very well meaning individual of the polytechnic ranging from the management team, high ranking officers of the institution, staffs and students of the institution.
