The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given a big nod to Nigerian football legend Onome Ebi, celebrating her unmatched contribution to women’s football in Africa. The former Super Falcons captain has not only set the bar -- she is the bar -- after featuring in an incredible seven editions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Seven Tournaments, Four Titles, One Legend

In an official tribute on its website, CAF described Ebi as one of the few players in WAFCON history with such “longevity and impact.” And honestly, they’re not wrong. The central defender’s career with Nigeria’s national team spans well over 15 years, covering every WAFCON tournament from 2008 to 2022.During that time, she helped Nigeria lift the trophy four times -- in 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

Former Olympic team coach, Samson Siasia, has shut down claims by ex-Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, who recently said he footed the bill for Nigeria’s U-23 squad to fly to the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

While speaking on The Peter Crouch Podcast, Mikel claimed he had to step in and pay for the team’s travel after officials allegedly failed to release funds.

Crouch brought it up:

“There’s a story where you paid for everyone’s flight.”

Mikel replied:

“Yeah, for the Olympics. Again, we talk about the corruption — there was no money for the flight. For most of these players, it was their first big tournament. So I thought, why not? We got there — and to this day, I still haven’t been reimbursed.”

Surprised, Crouch followed up:

“Wait… so you got a medal and still haven’t been paid?”

Mikel confirmed: “Nope.”

But Siasia, who was head coach at the time, says that version of events isn’t quite right.

“Mikel Obi did not pay for any flight from the United States to Brazil. Nothing like that happened. We only had issues with hotel bills — I think he helped there — but the flights? No. Delta Airlines flew us out after some Nigerians in the US raised concerns. A friend of mine spoke directly to the airline’s chairman, and they sorted it out. ..."

American filmmaker and media mogul Tyler Perry is facing a $260 million lawsuit from actor Derek Dixon, who alleges sexual harassment, assault, and workplace retaliation.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday, June 13, in Los Angeles. Dixon’s claims relate to his time working on Perry’s hit TV series The Oval and Ruthless, where he portrayed the character “Dale”.

According to People, who first reported the story, the filing alleges that Perry had initially promised Dixon creative opportunities, including a potential production deal and lead roles. But things reportedly took a dark turn when, according to Dixon, he refused Perry’s alleged sexual advances.

“Instead of delivering on these professional promises, Mr Perry subjected Dixon to escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and retaliatory behaviour,” the complaint states.
