The fire outbreak at the Lafia Modern Market in Nasarawa State has destroyed properties worth millions of naira. The incident, which began around 9:45am on Friday, was reportedly caused by a nearby dumpsite. The Director of the Nasarawa State Fire Saervice, Joshua Ombugu, confirmed the incident and the cause of the fire outbreak. Ombugu said that properties worth an estimated N150 million were destroyed, while goods valued at about N10 million were salvaged. The state fire service boss was quoted as saying, “We estimated the property lost to be worth about N150 million and the property we were able to save worth about N10 million.” Ombugu added, “There were no casualties. Major tech firms including Google, X, Microsoft, and TikTok, have removed more than 65 million pieces of content from their platforms in Nigeria following user complaints, according to a report by the National Information Technology Development Agency. NITDA’s Director of Corporate Communications & Media Relations, Mrs Hadiza Umar, disclosed this in a press statement on Tuesday. The data, which is a part of the 2023 compliance report on the Code of Practice for Interactive Computer Service Platforms and Internet Intermediaries, highlights the companies’ efforts to meet Nigeria’s regulatory requirements for managing certain online content. The code, jointly issued by NITDA, the Nigerian Communications Commission, and the National Broadcasting Commission, sets clear guidelines for promoting online safety and curbing the spread of harmful material across digital platforms. Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released designated phone numbers and emails for bank customers to report cash scarcity at the automated teller machines (ATMs). This was contained in a circular issued on Tuesday, jointly signed by Solaja Olayemi, the CBN acting director of currency operations, and Isa-Olatinwo Aisha, CBN acting director of branch operations.
