Four persons, including a 57-year-old grandmother, have been arrested for allegedly cultivating Indian hemp at Ogorie village in Uhunmwode Local Government of Edo State.

They were nabbed after one of the workers, who was recently employed, was arrested by men of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The suspects are Joy Issele, 57, Amadin Eribo, 22, Lucky Osele, 42 and the village head, Peter Igbinudud.

Speaking during a parade at the NSCDC headquarters, the suspects said they were just workers, who earned N7,000 monthly.

Joy said it was her husband, Gowon, who gave them land to cultivate Indian hemp.

A police officer and his family have all died after reportedly eating a dish of vegetable soup before going to bed, and never waking up.

People in Dushai village along the Kagoro-Manchok road, in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State are gripped by grief and wondering how a local staple vegetable, jute, (and known among the Yoruba of Southwest Nigeria as ewedu and called rama in Southern Kaduna), which they have been using to make soup for centuries could have caused the death of a whole family in their community.

The family five, including an unborn baby, as well as two domestic dogs, perished the next day after consuming a meal made with the vegetable. The dead were identified as ex-police inspector, Peter Dauda, 43, his expectant 35-year-old wife, Dorothy, nine-year-old son, Godwin and six-year-old daughter, Patience.

Sunday Sun learnt from a member of the community that the family had enjoyed their meal prepared with jute one night and went to bed. They woke up hale and hearty. Meanwhile before turning in that night, the used portion of the jute was spread on a container overnight. In the evening of that day, it was used to make a fresh pot of soup.

With no premonition, the family ate the soup went to bed, but never woke up again. The sumptuous vegetable soup allegedly killed them.

A socio-activist group, Igbos for Nigeria Movement, INM, has identified Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu as the face allegedly behind the recent Monkey Pox vaccine hoax in the South East region of the country.
The group also urged the Federal Government through law enforcement agencies to stop IPOB from continuing to create panic across the country even after it has been outlawed as a terrorist organization.

INM further demanded a thorough investigation of any financial transactions between Igbos people in government and IPoB since this would amount to financing terrorism.
Mazi Ifeanyi Igwe, National President of Igbos for Nigeria Movement, who spoke in Abuja on Wednesday, lamented that the latest round of propaganda by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, has done untold damage to the Igbo cause with his allegation that soldiers were forcefully injecting students with virus as the fear of vaccines createed by the hoax could potentially make parents avoid lifesaving vaccinations.
He called relevant security agencies to unravel the true identity of whoever is posing as Emma Powerful since no such entity has ever come forward at any of the various fora that had convened to discuss the marginalization of the Igbo nation.

Good news!! The veterans were dismissed from service for their participation in the war which lasted between 1967 and 1970.In a statement on Wednesday, the Pensions Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) announced that payment will commence on Friday, October 20, in Enugu state.

“The general public would recall that Nigeria witnessed an ugly civil war between July 1967 and January 1970 and as a result of that unfortunate period in our history, some members of the armed forces, the Nigeria police and the paramilitary officers who took part with the secessionist were dismissed from the service,” the statement read.

“The dismissal of those officers was commuted to retirement in year 2000 through a presidential amnesty granted on 29th May, 2000 by the administration of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR.

One Ibrahim Bawa was arraigned by the police on Wednesday, in a Minna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly seducing a married woman.

Bawa is standing trial on a count charge of seducing a married woman.

The offence is punishable under Section 389 of the Penal Code.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ahmed Saidu, told the court that one Alhaji Tanimu Salihu of Paikoro reported the case at the police station on August 26.

Chief Chijioke Nwakodo, the Chief of staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State is dead. Nwakodo, 56, died in a London hospital on Thursday evening, his younger brother, Mr. Obidike Nwakodo, told newsmen on Friday in Umuahia.

When newsmen visited his residence, his younger brother, Obidike, was seen receiving calls from sympathizers, who trickled into the house of the deceased to confirm his death and to offer sympathy.

Nwakodo further said that the news of his death was communicated to the family on Thursday evening.

He said that arrangements were on to formally convey the message of his death to the governor.

It was learnt that Nwakodo, a father of two, was appointed Chief of Staff to the governor on June 3, 2015.

Nwakodo, a politician and businessman, was born on March 29, 1961.
