Across bluish skies
Sailed returning plumes,
Birth of Another bout...
Senile leaves sacked,
Earth groaned from thirst,
Emitting floating fumes
That painted us red.
These chilly nights...
Damp silvery dew...
Raped skins and lips...
Products of harmattan
Offspring of North-East wind:
Contemporary seasonal guests.

At hovering doom
Pensive losers stared,
Unemployment taunted with
Frightening jaws apart.
Gainful employment is crushed:
Invincible cartels have won!
More jobs for guillotine:
Additional outlets closed
Who rescues trapped souls:
I pause for reply!

No flesh to chew,
No grains to grind
Penury is our guest.
Beyond walls of agony
Stared deprived siblings,
On celebrating streets
Sauntered prosperous peers,
Pilgrims on Christmas day
Fortunate souls indeed.
In mournful spasms vibrated
Serene rooms as poverty
Mocked sapped citizens.
No carols at Christmas:
No trip to Bethlehem.
