I can't really say when they would read this crap. However, that wouldn't deter me from writing it anyway. I have spent roughly a month as a student in France and the experience has been mixed. At other times it felt blissful at some it has bee torturous especially when you have to buy something. My sincere appreciation goes to everyone on this thread and especially @ogatboy, and @whitetiger511. You guys made my transition less stressful than it could have been.

Whitetiger511 your line has not connected since i arrived. I'll be in paris on October 1, how can i contact you please? We should grab a bite.

Thanks I'll do just that.

Thanks. I understand my research experience is very limited although could it help that I have a published paper presented at an international paper contest?. And the research group I was under was quite rigorous under the supervision of multiple profs with funding from a major IOC.
Please what European Universities would you suggest especially outside the UK with good funding options. Not too familiar with their processes, maybe iFP?
Thanks and sorry for the bother.
See my signature, let's chat on Whatsapp. Research experience can be compensated for.

Ask dose that did recently. It's a young guy Rabiu that will interview you. You are being recorded and it's sent to the embassy. For me they asked normal questions like tell me about yourself, your course of study, y such course, y France, and plans after the studies
Baba, I doubt if its recorded. I watched for it. His hands were on the table all through. Did my interview on Wednesday. He only wrote out some points, prolly for transcript. He's a cool guy, Rafiu, I enjoyed my time there. He was relaxed, that's why I suspect it wasn't recorded. We discussed some crazy stuff.

Believe me, I didn't observe protocols. I was supposed to send my packages through air/postal mail but I didn't. I boycotted the procedure, mailed CROUS office and complained about the implications of sending it that way. they later accepted the scanned copies of d documents required; and now, I've just received my accommodation award notification.
All I could say is, just try and contact the CROUS of your school and lay your complaint. try to see if they will accept scanned copies via email.
Thanks, this saved me.

How many days did it take between the submission of the documents and receipt of the accommodation certificate.

Is there anyone in France who can help me collect a package from UPS and forward to CROUS via local mail? UPS has held my package for over a week in France, saying they can make delivery to the CROUS office address. This is an exigency if I'm to meet up with September's resumption date.

hello gurus in the house, I am planning on writing GRE in Oct and I need some material. I have gotten barron, gruber and the official ETS material. I don't knw if anyone can assist with 5lb Manhattan series and Magoosh materials.

Secondly I have a Bsc (3.86/5) In geology and Msc in petroleum Geosciences (4.84/5). I Have a published paper in a well recognised journal (NAPE). I intend going for PHD but if not possible I can go for another MSc spring or fall 2018. What are my chances of getting funding and I need advice of safe schools that offer geology.
Honestly, there is no hard and fast rule for categorizing safe or ambitious school these days. It all depends on your field, for example FIT may be a safe school for others but for I/O psychology its top 10. Look through each departments publication record online, see association rankings, get in contact with current students and alumni, then you'll be able to choose which is safe or ambitious for your profile.
Same thing goes for your publication, check the journal's impact factor online, did you pay to publish? Is the journal indexed on a reputable repository? Publication is encouraged when its really in a reputable journal (i am not a specialist in your field).
Your chances of funding for a PhD study are better than for MS, however, there are no guarantees. Apply to as many programs as you can afford.
Finally, for prep materials, go back through each page of the thread you'll find a multitude of them.

Now is the best time to initiate contact. Find a plausible defect (esp. Methodology) in their last publication or an avenue to expand the main reasoning. Equally you should start contacting your naija referees, the devil can elect to use them sometimes.

The money is more than enough, I lived on less than 500 monthly although in CROUS accommodation. You can send a mail to CROUS in your school using Google translator although the period for taking requests ended 31st of May. People in Paris get grant of only 750 nthey survive. All the best
Thanks man,
However, Essec business school doesn't have an established relationship with CROUS, thus I've been notified that i can now book my accommodation on the school's website coordinated by a department in the school's administrative section (ALLEGESSEC). I've been advised to make use of this option by a senior colleague at the school, at least for this first year.

NB: It seems CROUS are still accepting applications, especially for Erasmus students to Bourdeaux. My sister got a message from her school equally instructing her to proceed to the CROUS webpage and make a reservation.

I've sent you and whitetiger511 one innocuous pm respectively. I'll prefer a private audience over whatsapp. Hence, if it isn't too much you can reply the pm with your active lines.

NB: Its time sensitive. Help the young man.

You don't need schools with high acceptance rates (whatever that means). You have a good profile, extra brownie points if you published in any of your MSc's. It's a good thing you know your desired research area.

Find good MSE programs strong in your research area. Start with strong programs like those in University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign (UIUC) and Purdue University. Ideally, you're looking for FOUR good schools. Mail their graduate program co-ordinators, and professors you'd like to work with, if admitted. Express your interest, discuss your background, and make see why you think your background has prepared you to contribute meaningfully in their labs. I'm sure there are emerging research fields where your expertise in Physics and MSE will be a goldmine, and would surely boost your profile.

If you can get even ONE of those profs to be overly interested in you, you won't need to worry about acceptance rate or funding.

Most profs won't take you serious though, unless you've taken the GRE, and done well. So, if you send mails and all you hear is crickets, don't waver. Plan to do well on your GRE. The higher, the better.

Cheers!
I just like the way you write. Can you help me improve? Can I send a pm?

but let me tell you, 1000euro a month, is enough for rent(600euro a month o), food, phone internet and navigo bills and a little extra for shopping and travel in Paris, or out of France to other countries by bus and lodging in cheap hostels. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to save a huge chunk of that.

Pheeeeew!!! Finally I am on the right thread. As an intro, I'm a prospective PhD student (ESSEC Business Sch) while my sis is an Erasmus Mundus scholar (starting from Uni of Bordeaux) both starting September. Our studies would be fully funded (scholarships + stipends), while she'll be on €1000 a month stipend, my stipends are higher, with more perks (quite juicy).

After digesting the info on this thread (from page 1), one ambiguity still lingers; what is the average cost of living for an average student like either of us in communities around these schools (cergy, pontoise, Bordeaux) and even in broader France?

Especially, important to us is accommodation. While our schools have beautiful accommodation arrangements, they are quite expensive compared to what we would prefer to pay (its the first time a family member is travelling out in the last 24 years, everyone expects you to save). Thus, we are would like to know if an individual could get accommodation in either of Clergy, Pontoise or Bordeaux for <€300. Thus crous website is so arcane, it would not even translate to English even on chrome.

Hope I get answers from students and peeps living around these areas.

Thanks guys

Congrats to those with success stories already and more luck to the remaining of us. In the last 40 days I have gotten an amount of rejects and wait listing. Six (6) decisions have arrive from both america and Europe (FSU, HEC, ESSEC, uni of Rotterdam, uni of Mannheim, NHH) and still no admission. I remain hopeful and I believe my success story would be the next post.

More luck to us

sirRiddy:
The latest episode really irked me.
He claimed a top school, ranked 13, among CS sent him an email.
This fall, K-State ranked just 90 got over 100 applications. They have peaked at 400 before
in recent years. Top 20 schools do not get anything far from the thousands for CS applications.
I checked every school on usnews ranking top 50 before I ended up with ASU.
So I have at least a little information about most top CS programs. No CS program
ranked in the top 20 would be sending you mumu emails. Moreover the school in question
is an EECS, Elect and CS, and not computer science and maths. The idiot actually edited the
email to look like it came from the school.
All you need to do is google the purpoted professor's name and eecs and the school name.
Guess what? No results found. Goodle prof name and CS and something pops up.
The professor is the head at an unranked school in Missouri. I would not have done this but I
had to given that this guy would likely not stop this until maybe someone falls victim.
Keep walking and may you never stumble. You don't break all my bone sha. I'm speechless...... I no even reason say the mighty goons like una dey that group. Abeg, to all those wey don get admit, congrats. To we wey dey pray...... he go better.
