DeeTus: You can't adjust status from B1/B2 to F-1 anymore. It's highly difficult on Nigerian passports unless you have some connections or maybe you're extremely lucky. Says who? And can you drop a link. A friends sisters adjustment was just approved recently. So I don't get. |

femi321: Search for any Nigerian student in your school through Linkedin, you people dont know the power of Linkedin..you will be amazed of how many you will fine even if it is just 2. Also try to Contact your school's African student organization, you should find there contact somewhere on your school website or use google..Try facebook too..If you are proactive i am sure you will find someone somewhere. You might not find anyone here on nairaland since not all schools in the Us are represented here. You are absolutely right. Some students have contacted me on there and I was of great help to them. He should also Google African organization in his school or put a call through to the international office to ask if such exist |

TWoods: Of course, those provisions were put in place for special circumstances, not to be used as a way to avoid applying for F1 visas in your own home country. Its a matter of time before it gets shut down, thanks to wanton abuse from folks like you... and people wonder why its incredibly hard for Nigerians to get visas anywhere.
Here is your problem - you are not thinking long term. Applying to adjust status to F1 from a B1 within the first 60 days of entering the US will trigger a red flag - it will be viewed as preconceived intent (unless you mentioned the possibility of attending school in your B1 interview). Even if you scale through, expect to have it pop up when you get to the point of adjusting status to permanent residency a few years down the line. Considering that you have no more than 90 days to stay in the US and adjustment of status will take 1-2 months to be approved, how is it possible to reasonably adjust status in the US? You need some coaching. When I get off, would come back to erase all the crass ignorance you've displayed so far. Again, stop soundig like a little kid. |

TWoods: No you can't. This wanton disregard for rules is why getting visas to the US has become an exercise in praying and fasting. Simply come back to the country, as you stated you would in your B1 visa interview, then apply for an F1. Be honest! It really isn't that hard! Calm your tip down. They wouldn't make provision for such in the first place. You can adjust your status to F-1 while on B1 visa. You are not violating your visa terms in NO way |

kelvyn29: Thanks. Would come back and apply for the F1 If you're already in US, you can apply for your admission from there. You can change status too if you don't have any intention of coming back. I thought you're in Nigeria |

kelvyn29: Thanks. I have the B1/B2 and not the F1. Changing status can be challenging, yes I know. But if they might cancel the existing B1/B2 if the F1 gets denied, then it's worse. I didnt say you have an F-1, that was an assumption. Why are you scared about denial. You have a chance of getting you F-1 approved since you have travel history. Better chance than fresh applicants. |

kelvyn29: Hello everyone, Please I have a valid B1/B2 visa. I plan on studying in the US also. Should I change status to F1 when I visit the US? Or should I come back and apply for the F1 ?
Secondly, would my B1/B2 visa be cancelled when I apply for the F1? I heard it gets cancelled without prejudice and my F1 would get cancelled too.
Please I need guidance. If you have an F-1 what do you need a B1/B2 for. And no it might/might not be cancelled. What they told you is a big fat lie. Apply for your F-1 from Nigeria it is cheaper and stress free. The wait times for change of status spans from 3-1year before approval. After approval you know if you need the visa stamped you'll still need to go to the embassy for visa. So my advice is apppy from Nigeria |

Bidexluv: PhD directly with 2.2? Though I sent in my GPA in my mail It is written that you can apply for a PhD with your first degree. In US, you don't need to have a Masters degree to apply for a PhD. That being said, applying doesn't guarantee admission either. You still have to go through the process. |

This is the challenge : I included African maritime academy(private school in oyo state) in my Umaine online app, I have the transcript but of course The procedure requires that The transcript should be sent directly by the school attended , I contacted the school at oyo but was told that the new policy For transcript to be sent is to provide all evidence of payment Throughout the 2years program (2010-2012) which I can't provide one because I Didn't document the bankdraft.
What is the implications of Mailing Umaine explaining the constraints of the school(african maritime academy) not Able to send My transcript?
Erudite's what's your Advice please?.

USnobeparadise: Open to Nigeria? Fmjfee Web is the same everywhere. I know quite sure that when the sevis I-901 form is submitted online, the only payment option u would is "pay by check or money order ". The way I did mine was that, I first of all submitted the form online, I couldn't find "pay by credit or debit card" option. And I had to email the fmjfee people, provide them with some of important information in my coupon including sevis Id, control number etc and also what the issue was. Within like an hour, I filled the form again and submitted, immediately the " pay by credit or debit card " option popped up, and I utilized it instantly. In less than 3 mins, I had fmjfee receipt in my folder.
But u can keep on nagging, all I know that I did mine online, when some folks here were crossing border like cotonou to get their fees paid. Good to hear. Did you pay with a US card or Nigerian card? |

bayocanny: Ok bro, pls how does the money order works. Kindly explain to me am a novice, my resumption is near abeg Someone in US has to do it for you cos it can't be paid in Nigeria. So the fastest way is through Western Union. You'll fill a coupon online at fmjfee. Then send the person your coupon number. He/she would have to walk to a western union outlets to help you make the payment. Instructions on how to fill the form is on their website. Fmjfee type it on google |

A 19-year-old African refugee was found zipped inside a suitcase after a woman was detained by authorities while trying to enter Europe via a Spanish enclave next to Morocco. The woman was arrested by Spanish Civil Guard after trying to smuggle him into Ceuta, which lies on the African mainland directly across the Strait of Gibraltar from the rest of Spain. The discovery of the Gabonese teen came as more than 1,000 refugees from sub-Saharan Africa tried to storm onto Spanish soil by rushing a border fence between Morocco and Ceuta this week, the Daily Mail reported. 55 police officials were injured in that incident, and all but two refugees, who were injured and taken to a Ceutan hospital, were returned to Morocco. The Daily Mail reported it was not the first time someone has tried to gain entry to Europe through Morocco inside a suitcase. There are two Spanish enclaves attached to Morocco: the other, Melilla, lies just west of the Algerian border on the Mediterranean Sea.
