CareerRe: Geez! No Industrial Engineers On Nairaland! Pity! by Andych: 3:23pm On Feb 24, 2019
Montalo:
Engineering generally is lucrative but a very tough field in Nigeria because of the low level of industrialisation in this country. Most Industries are owned by foreigners..Engineering education in Nigeria is of really poor standard. So you save money for technical trainings. So you are in right field but its gonna be a tough one. Good luck.
Thank you so much.

Can you tell me more about this technical training, where can I get this training and is it possible to do it together with my degree program?

Hello am an 100level undergraduate in Industrial Production Engineering, and I just came across this tread.
With regards to the Nigerian labour market, do you have any reservations, regrets, or advice for me as an undergraduate in this field.
Geds:
To your first question, there are currently no specializations in the undergraduate program. Although, most graduates go on to specialize in areas such as project management, operations research, human factors engineering and supply chain management.

To your second question,
The first year's curriculum entails the basic science courses i.e. Physics, maths, statistics and chemistry.

To your third question
With the skills I've learnt, I can manage projects usimg tools such as critical path method (CPM), Project evaluation and review technique (PERT) and network analysis.
I can also function effectively in supply chain management, using my knowledge of demand forecasting and inventory management.
I can also work in the maintenance department of any organization, using my knowledge of reliability engineering, maintainability, inventory management and engineering economics.
My training in safety and reliability engineering will also be very useful in any oil and gas industry.

The skills I have gained studying this course, can be applied in various fields, but I feel I am adequately prepared for the ones I have listed above. I am really glad you are intetested in this course, as the country needs mote Industrial engineers to ensure that firms perform optimally.
