I've seen so many terrible marriage disputes. What makes me happy now is that Nigerians are learning and adjusting. Many, many Igbo diaspora husbands don't bring their wives abroad from Nigeria anymore.

I hope this 🙏 isn't indiscreet, but I'll mention it for hope. A male unmarried friend of mine is now a single parent via surrogacy. And he's been in a serious relationship with a Nigerian woman for a while.

And of course I know a few single Nigerian mothers who had their kids through surrogacy and also several couples. One notable thing...almost all these people are in healthcare professions....nurses, doctors, pharmacists and such.

It's all good.

A recent video was brought to Nairaland where a Jakpada lady who lives in Port Harcourt was lamenting the rapidly rising DESPERATION of Nigerians for financial uplift and the generally AMORAL character of the people there.

So this story and other similar cases should be a lesson for the future. No person living in a developed Western country should deign to marry a resident of Nigeria and then take them to live abroad. The rising political tides against immigration will increase the anything-goes mentality in Nigeria and thus exponentially raise the stakes.

If there are sound reasons for going through with such a union, both spouses should avail themselves of all legally allowed protections, most importantly an iron clad premarital agreement in which both spouses are represented by competent counsel.

The main disputes are usually over abuse, assets and children, all of which can be mitigated. Cameras can be installed in most areas of the homestead to record daily life. Household tasks can be legally enumerated and assigned.

All these can enforce equality except in the case of child bearing. Men don't have wombs. The good thing is that Nigeria has a thriving, safe and efficient SURROGATE PREGNANCY market. And it's very affordable for the average middle class Nigerian living in a developed Western nation. This has opened up many possibilities and transformations for family life. Marriage is no longer the only avenue for legally protected procreation.

Marriage in North America and Western Europe is now a dangerous proposition. Thankfully, Nigerian diasporans are waking up to the issue and have started applying a risk management mindset. This includes not getting married at all, becoming a single parent and/or living with a lover under a strict non-marital cohabitation agreement. Yes.
