Bird of a feather, they say, flock together. With the super-wealthy in the world, the saying is taken seriously. Unlike how Nollywood portrays life, where a rich man is friends with a poor man in the village, real life doesn't play out as such. The rich only make friends with the rich. In fact, studies have shown that rich people go out of their way to surround themselves with only rich friends. Even long before they became billionaires, they make efforts to spend time with people they either aspired to be like or people who share the same mindset as them. Among, many international billionaires, we can see this play out, with the budding friendship between Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates standing out. Well, Nigerian billionaires are not left out. Over the years, we have seen Forbes top rated billionaires make friends with each other and increase their circle. They may be staunch competitors during the working hours, but outside business, they travel together, have dinner and party together, make friends with each other families and children, serve on charity boards together, and one more thing, they celebrate their wins together. Who are their friends? Watch this video to find out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsDTl0VyHD0 |

While reading, I first sensed that you're an empath. But reading further, I realised you just have a people-pleasing trait (this is debatable tho). You don't need a tough skin (this often is a coping mechanism), what you need is self-care. And here are a few tips to go about that; 1. Have principles and boundaries and let those you relate with, even people you are meeting for the first time know this. People will try to test you, so you must be firm about it. 2. Let people earn anything (almost) they get from you. Respect, relationships, financial favours, and even loyalty. 3. Don't be a doormat. I mean the one everyone uses and dump. 4. With the exception of certain people, only do for people things that are convenient for you. 5. You need to reevaluate your self-esteem and self-worth. Back them up with positive affirmations. 6. You need to start seeing criticism differently. See it as a way to be better or projections of people, not as a way to give in to people whims and schemes. A lot of criticism you will get will come from people who want you to play by their rules. It's just a way to make you bend, see yourself smaller, and aim to get their accolades. I particularly, do not appreciate praises. It often plays out as criticism. People who dish it often just want you to play by their rules. So, start seeing criticism differently and stop doing acts that you think will get no criticism. However, Robert Greene books will help. They will help you uncover the power plays in every of your interaction and in the configuration of the world. You can also go for The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**K by Mark Manson. I hope these help. |

I don't know if this would help. But, how about you present the solicitation for help differently. People already have burdens and are often unwillingly to add to it. If you're asking for fees today, your uncle may feel like, you will show up another day for another pending fees. But how about, you decide on starting a business that requires little capital and may be able to pay for your future needs. He may feel compelled to help this way, knowing you won't keep coming back. |
One of the best ways to end an addiction is to seek an alternative. Try making something, or other healthy alternatives like Hibiscus drink, tiger nut drink, yoghurt, and the likes. With time, you'll find out you enjoy the healthy alternatives. In addition, you'll feel healthier. |
