Ever heard of Bitter leaf? As its name suggests, it is a plant whose main characteristic is it bitter stem and leaves. There also exists a species of the plant which produces a ‘sweet‘ leaf. Popular in most of West Africa and named after botanist, William Vernon, its botanical name is Vernonia, it belongs to the family of Asteraceae. Bitter leaf is also referred to as ironweed, a name coined from the intensely purple flowers which later take on a rusty hue. Bitter leaf is able to flourish in a variety of climates unlike other plants which are often native to certain areas. Although most popularly used for food, bitter leaf has also traditionally been used for its medicinal properties now proven by medical research. With around a thousand varieties, the bitter leaf plant’s uses range from antimicrobial to decorative. Some of the most common uses are noted below.

1. STOMACH ACHE: Chew the tender stem and swallowing the juices is a well known remedy for stomach aches. Alternatively pound the fresh leaves in a mortar to extract the juice. Add a pinch of salt to three tablespoons of the undiluted juice and drink. This version is reported to bring immediate relief.

6. PNEUMONIA: Squeeze the fresh leaves of the plant in water. Take a glass-full thrice daily. Warm [DO NOT BOIL the solution each time before drinking. Continue the medication for a month. To save time a large quantity can be made in one go. Add some honey to preserve the solution.

NB: Bitter leaf extract stored for longer than twenty-four hours loses the bitterness but the efficacy remains.

7. PROSTRATE CANCER: Prostrate cancer is most common among black men over forty years old. Its symptoms include difficult and painful urination, among others. HealthBenefits Of Playing Memory Games by annybliss(op): 6:24am On Aug 25, 2013
A fun-filled and worthwhile activity that both adults and children can enjoy is playing games. Playing games do not only help us socialize and/or pass the time in a fun way, it can also give us great benefits that can enhance our overall well-being. There are many different kinds of games that can be chosen from. There are physical games that can help strengthen our bodies and make us healthy. There are also intellectual games that can increase our knowledge while there are also memory games that can help our brains become sharper.

Aside from making the brain sharp, there are also other great benefits that can be reaped from playing memory-enhancing games. Here are three of the great benefits of playing such games.

* Helps in exercising the brain.

Memory games, like other kinds of games, serve to exercise certain parts of the body - in this case the brain's memory function. When these games are played consistently, it will be equivalent to exercising the brain to make it more alert and sharp. You can do this by playing memory games 30 minutes to one hour every day. It does not matter how short or long you play the game. The important key to remember is playing it consistently. This will also harness one's concentration and focus level in such a way that it will be improved as you go along.

* Helps in preventing memory-related illnesses such as Alzheimer's.

Memory loss is a natural process that all people may go through as we age and it may prove to be a little difficult to prevent and it cannot be halted. However, it can be slowed down by properly exercising your brain and this can be done by playing memory games. When you play these games and exercise your brain consistently, you will be able to avoid illnesses and diseases which are memory-related. This is primarily because the brain is kept active often.

* Helps in enhancing other brain functions.

Others think that memory games are just all for improving the memory and others may not feel that it will be useful or beneficial in their day-to-day life. However, that is completely incorrect. When a person plays memory and brain-enhancing games regularly, he or she will not only be able to enhance the brain's memory function, but also other brain skills like concentration, focus, attention level, cognitive skills as well as reading and reasoning skills. This is because many memory games are developed to allow the brain to think strategically and critically. There are many memory games that have various levels of difficulties to holistically train and boost the brain.

Memory games are a fun way and efficient way to pass the time. On top of that, if done on a regular basis, it can also help in boosting the brain making us sharper and wiser.
HealthImportance Of Staying Hydrated by annybliss(op): 7:39am On Aug 22, 2013
Water may be something we take for granted. It is easy to turn to drinks such as carbonated beverages and fruit juices to quench our thirsts. But take away all those sugars and additional flavors, and you are left with water! Fortunately for us, we live in a place and time where clean water is both free and accessible.

It is very important to remember, however, that you lose significant amounts of fluids via sweating and metabolism when you exercise! In a state of dehydration, athletic performance is significantly hindered. Drinking fluids before, during, and after exercise is the easiest and most effective step to preventing dehydration.

Believe it or not, your urine is a great indicator of your hydration. The more clear your urine is, the more hydrated you are! This is because darkened and low amounts of urine are a result of the kidneys not having enough water to dilute your pee and therefore it is concentrated with salts and metabolic waste products. Do you have a headache? The answer to your problem may lie in your fluid intake levels! When you supply your body with more water and salts, your blood volume increases. However when your body is deprived of these essentials, blood vessels narrow thus reducing the supply of blood and oxygen to the brain, resulting in a headache. Interestingly, it has been found that being dehydrated by a seemingly small 1% can decrease force production by 17-19%! Imagine this detriment in a gym or sport setting, all due to not drinking enough water. Other symptoms of dehydration may include thirst (obviously!), minor discomfort or irritability, reduced mental alertness, fatigue, weakness, constipation, parched lips, dizziness, and muscle cramps.

Although caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, and energy drinks are water-based, it is important to remember that caffeine is a diuretic! A diuretic is a substance that promotes the production of urine, and consequent excretion of urine. No wonder you had to pee so often when you drank your coffee and tea for exam studying! Since the average cup of coffee has approximately 135mg of caffeine, 180mg/day is unfortunately easy to reach. So, for you caffeine-folk out there who need your fresh cup of Joe to start your day, remember to compensate your increased urination with increased water intake.

Interestingly, small amounts of salts such as sodium are important to maintain proper hydration. This is the concept that sports drinks are based off of! Essentially, these sports drinks aim to replenish your water levels and electrolytes lost from sweating and carbohydrates such as sugars that you are burning during exercise. It is important not to confuse sports drinks with energy drinks! The latter are designed to increase mental alertness via caffeine or other natural ingredients, and generally have more sugar than sports drinks which may not be ideal for exercise.

Tips for staying hydrated:

• Women need 2.2L or 9 cups of water per day, pregnant women need more water
• Men need 3L or 13 cups of water per day

HealthSubstance Abuse And Stress by annybliss(op): 11:56am On Aug 12, 2013
It is well understood that the effects of stress can lead to substance abuse. Stress is a part of life and there is no way to completely avoid stress, but what links it and substance abuse is largely due to the inability of the individual to deal with an increase in stress. Many substance users believe that turning to drugs and alcohol helps them cope, but in reality it is exacerbating the problem.

What is Stress?

Stress is one of those words that cannot be easily defined but you know it when you see it and the effects depends on the individual. What is stress for some may be nothing for others. Being late to work or school, or turning in late assignments is incredibly stressful for many individuals, while for others it is not that big a deal. Financial woes are stressful for just about everyone. Relationship problems can create an enormous amount of tension and at the same time, when it is experienced in another part of an individual's life, can create problems in relationships, so they essentially go hand in hand. A great number of individuals believe that they work best when under a certain amount of it.

However too much of a good or bad thing can be devastating and that can be said of stress. Too much can be psychologically and physically damaging, in other words, too much of it can kill you. Stress causes the immune system to go into overdrive. Constant tension can cause the immune system to be ineffective. What happens is the immune system turns on itself, which can lead to diabetes, heart disease and stroke. It can lead to severe depression and impact mental health. Ulcers are created by too much stress.

Excessive Tension Can Lead to Substance Abuse

Unfortunately, many people who experience stress turn to substance abuse for relief. Alcohol is a depressant and so individuals with a great amount of tension in their life, will turn to alcohol, or a prescription depressant, as a way to calm down and feel as if they have it under control. As a result of the calming effect that alcohol produces, the individual may turn to alcohol more often and in larger amounts to remain calm.

Increasing alcohol consumption or drug use as a means to deal with stress can lead to alcoholism or addiction. Once alcohol or drug use becomes habitual, it may be difficult to stop the substance abuse. Substance abuse can lead to the additional tension of losing your job, your family, a decrease in finances, legal problems, a decline in health and the list goes on and on.

Relief is a Must!

Substance abuse does not make the stress go away, if anything it creates more undue tension in the individual's life. While it is impossible to eliminate all it from your life, there are ways to decrease and deal with it as it comes, to keep your life running smoothly. Meditation and learning breathing techniques to release tension; increasing your exercise; taking up golf or tennis; listening to music or starting a hobby are all ways to find relief. For many individuals writing in a journal is a great way to let go of the stress. If none of these suit you, try talking to a person, such as a counselor, clergy or friend.

HealthHow To Save Someone From An Asthma Attack by annybliss(op): 3:13pm On Aug 10, 2013
Asthma is a condition that inflames the airways, making it difficult to manage normal breathing. There are a wide variety of 'asthma triggers' such as dust and fur from pets. These nuisances cause the body to release histamine, which inflames and narrows the airways. It usually takes a course of medication to alleviate the symptoms of an asthma attack. A small amount of training on the treatment protocol can go a long way in helping a sufferer.

One of the main symptoms of an asthma attack is an overall feeling of breathlessness. The resulting narrowing of the airways will also cause the chest to tighten up, whereby the sufferer may even be clutching on this region of the body. Bouts of coughing can accompany the above symptoms, alongside 'wheezing noises', which are caused by a blockage when breathing in and out.

Cyanosis is also quite common. This is visible by the skin taking a grey / blue appearance, and may also be evident in the extremities like the lips and finger tips. These symptoms are similar to other serious breathing disorders; therefore it is important to talk to the casualty and those around them to work out if they suffer from the condition.

The first port of call when treating a casualty is to sit them down, and allow for a period of rest. This is by no means the cure; however the sufferer will increase the pressure on the respiratory system by standing up, or by being in an agitated state. The next step after recognising an 'asthma attack' is to search for the sufferer's medication. This usually takes the form of a small blue / brown cylinder, which should be carried at all times. The casualty should be encouraged to draw two puffs from this, every two minutes, for a maximum of ten puffs. The emergency services should be called if there is no access to medication, no improvement, or after ten puffs from the inhaler.

FamilyLive Today: A Self-reflection by annybliss(op): 10:07am On Aug 09, 2013
s I am the type who spends so much time reflecting, I often wonder about what could have been. What would have happened if I stayed where I was, and never moved? What would have been if I had pursued specific goals more eagerly? What missed opportunities have I had? What mistakes have I made? These times of reflection, while good in a sense, as they allowed me to remember and learn from my past, can also be very detrimental. Dwelling on the past does nothing but fill time. Honor the past, prepare for the future and live in the present.

In reflecting on past times, it is difficult to not feel moments of regret. Thoughts run through my mind that tell me I missed this opportunity, I should have done this, or i messed up on that. Many times, it's just me being hard on myself. I will see the accomplishments of others, and wonder why I haven't done that. Thoughts like these can paralyze people. Dwelling so much on the past corrupts our minds and negates us from preparing for our future and truly living in the present. While it is good to learn from the past, it is crippling to dwell on it. Times of reflection need to be used to learn and honor what we have down, not tear us down so our lives mean nothing. I experienced a small breakdown today as I have just been stuck and feel unable to move forward. It is equivalent to the feeling of having a stagnant business in times of financial peril, or having writer's block when your next big novel is due. Truth is, with time, persistence, hard work and dedication, I will break free and accomplish what is needed.

We must learn to forgive ourselves for the mistakes of the past. We must realize that we are human and can only do so much. We must enjoy our present situation and embrace what we have. Constantly hoping that life will improve and waiting for happiness, is one of the worst things we can do. While I am all about creating for ourselves a better tomorrow, I do not believe we can miss out on all of the good things we have today that we fail to embrace. If I spend an exorbitant amount of my time worrying about what we will do tomorrow, I will miss out on these moments.

Unfortunately, many of us, including myself, spend so much time worried about what we did in our past, or what the future holds, that we miss out on enjoying the good things now. I will leave you with these final statement: 1) The thought of something bad happening is often worse than the occurrence itself. 2) It is called the past for a reason, so get passed it.

FamilyManipulation In Relationships by annybliss(op): 10:06am On Aug 08, 2013
Photoshop or digital image-editing software is used to manipulate images to look different from the original or to give the image a look which you desire. Manipulation is no different, it's about controlling a person or a situation to get what you want. Why? A lot of things could cause this behavior.

Do you find yourself doing things that you do not really want to? When someone close to you or in power suggests that you do something against your will, how do you feel?

People use manipulation as a way of controlling people, events and their own lives. It's a type of self-defense mechanism. Usually, these people who try manipulative tricks had no control as toddlers, often abused or abandoned, etc. Or in adulthood they believe manipulation is a means of getting what they want. Using the trick gives them power and power feels euphoric.

Checkmate is a game position in chess in which a player's king is threatened with capture and there is no way to counter the threat. Or, simply put, the king is under direct attack and cannot avoid being captured. Similar is the game of manipulation, to create a situation wherein the other person is captured and victimized.

To manipulate someone, is to play with someone's mind. You try to convince the other person that what you are suggesting is the best option for him, though you know it is going to work in your favor.

The manipulator sees himself at the center of the universe and other things revolve around him. He is happy with the sense of ownership and possession of everything, feels little empathy for others, and does little for others unless there is personal advantage.

The trick is to recognize it and ensure that you are neither a manipulator nor being manipulated, as this represents a dysfunctional relationship. Here are a few ways to know if someone is trying to manipulate you:

1. Tears: When someone wells up with tears in his eyes, it doesn't necessarily mean their genuine tears.

2. Punishment: Withdrawing love and support.

3. Lie: Manipulators are skilled liars. They make up stories that sound logical in order to make people feel sorry for them so they can get something.

4. Diversion: Manipulator not giving a straight answer to a straight question and steering the conversation to another topic.

5. Buttering You Up: To get their way, manipulators will often make you feel good so that they can then ask you to do something that they want.

6. Anger: Manipulator uses anger to for emotional intensity to get the victim into submission.

7. Guilt trip: This manipulative behavior seeks to make you feel guilty.

To identify manipulative behaviors, think about what they do and whether their words are used to get you to do something that you really don't want to do. Ask yourself few questions about the purpose of their actions.

FamilyManipulation In Relationships by annybliss(op): 8:14am On Aug 08, 2013

Once you identify the manipulator make a wise choice of either cutting off from him or ignore him. Just stay your ground and do not attempt twisting and learn to say 'No'.

HealthDifferent Side Effects Of Diabetes by annybliss(op): 8:04am On Aug 08, 2013
Diabetics are at a higher risk for many complications than for someone who does not have diabetes. In the top six, you are looking at several conditions with heart disease and stroke being a major risk factor. The other five are high cholesterol, hypertension, lack of exercise, being overweight and smoking. Those with diabetes have a greater chance of these problems due to the amount of cholesterol that can make a home in the arteries. And, once they have their first heart attack, the risk for a second is great.

Nerve damage is another concern and worry for those that are diabetic. Although neuropathy can hit at anytime during the your life of having diabetes, it is usually found in those who have been living with the disease for longer than twenty five years or in those who do not have control over the disease. The three most common neuropathy diagnoses are autonomic, proximal and focal and peripheral. Autonomic is when the heart, digestion, blood pressure, sex function and urinating become affected. In proximal neuropathy, there is pain in the butt and hips but at some point sufferers will experience trouble standing and getting up from sitting down. The last, focal and peripheral, is when there can be pain in the chest and lower back, blurry or double vision and the patient cannot get the eyes to focus.

Another big concern for diabetics is failure of the kidneys. In the early stages of diabetes (first ten years) is when a patient will generally develop kidney disease. However, they may not have kidney failure until 25 years down the road. There is no treatment for this except for dialysis or a transplant. Even when taking good care of your health, diabetics are at a very high risk for kidney disease no matter what.

Getting the inside scoop on these medical conditions and others that affect those with diabetes can help to make you a lower risk and keep you healthy. Taking your medications, eating a proper and healthy diet and getting the right amount of exercise can help you to stay healthy and keep many of the medical complications that diabetics are at a higher risk for at bay. They say that knowledge is power and when it comes to diabetes there is no better weapon. Speak with your doctor to learn as much as you can and find out what you need to do in order to be a low risk factor.

FamilyDealing With Loneliness by annybliss(op): 5:34pm On Jul 30, 2013
"Loneliness is the poverty of self."

-May Sarton

One of the toughest hurdles to overcome when a relationship ends is dealing with the gnawing loneliness that seems to take over your life and the fear that it will never end. These feelings are heightened when you are alone and it feels as if you are being haunted by them. Losing someone we love is one of the most difficult situations to deal with but, you can and you will get beyond this even though you may believe you won't.

There are several things you can do to help get beyond the sadness and pain of a break up or divorce. First, understand that grieving is a process and one that we all go through even though we wish we didn't have to. There are stages of grieving and the initial stages are the hardest to deal with because the pain is so raw. And worse yet, you may even believe this will destroy you, but rest assured you will survive.

Day by day you will become stronger and the pain will begin to subside. These heart wrenching feelings will pass and you will begin to feel like your old self again. But you have to allow yourself the time to heal. Imagine if you broke your leg. You may not want to deal with the whole healing process but there is no way out of it. Your leg will not heal overnight. It will take time and it will also help when you make smart choices so you don't lengthen the process.

The main thing you want to do is keep yourself as busy as possible. Surround yourself with family and friends; they will be your lifeline in your healing. You need them to lean on, to talk to and to walk you through this; and those who really love you won't mind at all.

Do the things you love that you stopped doing when you were in the relationship. So often people meet someone and they abandon their old hobbies and habits. Go out and recapture your interests or learn how to do something you've always wanted to but never made the time for. Go to the movies, go on a vacation, go and volunteer, go and exercise. Just go, go, go even when you feel like you don't want to do a thing.

Exercise is a big healing factor. It is one of the most beneficial things you can do to help you jump over this hurdle. The benefits of exercise far exceed almost any other good thing you can do for yourself. It releases hormones that will actually elevate your mood, plus a plethora of other incredible reasons from a health standpoint and a self esteem standpoint as well.

When you find yourself dwelling on the past and all of the whys, how did this happen, I will never meet anyone again, I can't get over this, I miss them so much and all of the other obsessively depressing thoughts, you have to begin to tell yourself the truth. You will get over this, you will have a good life again, you will laugh and love again and you will do this when you begin to put the past behind you, accept what has happened and start looking forward.

The bottom line is that loneliness is a side effect of ending a relationship. When you are used to sharing your life with someone on all levels and they are suddenly gone, how do you think you are going to feel? Of course you will feel devastated that's normal. But in time those feelings will be replaced with the realization that life really does go on and it will be a great life when you start to believe it will be.

HealthWhen You Loss The Weight From Your Mind, The Weight On Your Body Will Take Care by annybliss(op): 6:42am On Jul 25, 2013
People believe that losing weight and changing their body image is going to make them feel better. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Indeed, you may feel better for a while, but these are merely short-term results. How you feel about yourself on the inside is how you're going to present yourself on the outside. No diet, fancy clothing, new purse, makeup, hair style, car, new house, will change this.

Many people believe that they need to lose weight, become fit or eat a different way before they develop a healthier self-esteem. The problem is, though there are many things that we can do on the outside that will contribute to our well-being, none will have long-lasting benefits unless we develop a healthier self-image first. Self-image involves feeling good about yourself - your whole self - and not merely your physical appearance.

If you want to change something about yourself, then you have to go to the cause. If you feel you need to lose weight, then you must determine why you feel this way and where did it begin.

It is not the weight loss that I am proud of, it is the merging of my body; mind and spirit that I can honestly say made the difference.

You may discover that you are trying to live an expectation that was placed upon you by someone else. Perhaps you had been criticized by a well-meaning parent or subjected to peer pressure. The most important thing that you must consider is that you remain healthy in mind, body and spirit. When you work toward this state of wellness, you will notice changes within your body that occur with ease. You will see that your mind and body work in partnership for your betterment.

No one is put here to suffer - and since your body has been created with the same life source energy as with all other creation - it has all the necessary mechanisms to keep you healthy. However, it is what you believe to be true in your mind that is demonstrated through your body.

If you believe yourself to be unattractive, then it would not matter what outfit you buy, you will still feel unattractive. You must first accept that you are created with the same essence as with all life - each of us unique and splendid in our own way. You must accept that you are perfectly imperfect for a reason - as no person could strive to be what mankind has defined as perfection. You are unique, talented, and have the ability to live a fulfilling life - all you need to do is choose to let go of what has been holding you back.

People come in various shapes, sizes, talents and abilities. One person is no more significant than another. You have a very special purpose within you - and it is your responsibility to the Universe to live a life that makes you feel good.

When you loss the weight from your mind, the weight on your body will take care of itself. This will help the merging of your body; mind and spirit. It helped a friend of mine.

Do not underestimate the power of your mind. If you choose to alter your physical body in any way, determine where the original source of this desire stems from. Then you will be able to make a healthier decision based on your own beliefs, desires and motives.

No matter what you do, ensure that it is in the best interest of yourself and all those involve - such as your children. The day you were born you were significant to the Universe; do not deny yourself the pleasure of living a life of abundance, health and wellness.

FamilyLiving Life To The Fullest by annybliss(op): 6:05am On Jul 25, 2013
Living a life full of purpose, passion and happiness does not need to be as hard as we believe.

A lot of the time the reason why we're not living the life we want or dream off is because we are waiting for someone else to do something about it. We're not taking the responsibility ourselves to make the changes we need and to follow our true purpose, passion and desires. This has nothing to do with anyone else - it's all about YOU!

Having the gift of a happier, more satisfying life isn't easy and that is why so few people actually achieve all that they want out of life. In fact most people don't even achieve 1/3rd of what they want in life. People go through the daily routines, the daily grind expecting that one day it might be different.

Setting Goals Allows You To Achieve Greatness: The trick is to own them, to make them yours. Not what your Mum wants, nor what your guidance counsellor told you was right for you...but what YOU want. If you were to ask yourself the following questions, what would the answers be. What do I want to be doing in 1 years time, 3 years, 5 years , 10 years What is my true passion in life? Are you doing it? Why not? What could I do today that is different and improves the quality of my life?
Many people have not thought about what they truly want in years. This is partially due to the vague notion that many carry around that says 'someday I'll have more time to figure it out and then I'll get what I want'.
This is NOT how it works...some day is NOW. Tomorrow will never come, and our time here is limited. You can either choose for this to be a depressing thought and turn away from it, or face it straight on and FREE YOURSELF. Today is all we have - live it up! Dream with passion! PLAN to do things you love and which are fun...there is no time like the present!

You Must Set Priorities: In these busy times, it is time we realize that we cannot do it all. Nothing is created without us actually creating everything we want - I firmly believe this - but we all have 24 hours in a day, and things do slip through the cracks.
Therefore, the more we hone our focus and decide what our priorities are, the better we can live each day from that focus, and accomplish more of the things that matter to us as individuals. This is not goal-setting. Goals ARISE from this work, and allow you to accomplish those things that you wish to. This allows us to live each day with a strong sense of purpose, aliveness and joy. The trick to living this way is two-fold: the first thing you need to do is look at your overall life and decide what you want it to be about.

A good way is to think about what your life looked like as you float above it at the end of your life. Ask yourself what you will regret most if you don't change it? What do you want said about you when you're gone? What kind of a legacy would you like to leave? What will you wish you had done? The second part ties your priorities and your goals together. The best two tips in this area I have heard in years are extremely simple:

1. Make a list every night of the five things you MUST accomplish tomorrow, and then DO THEM tomorrow, in the order of those you want to do least first.

2. Ask yourself each day: What can I do today that I'll be glad I did tomorrow? This one step is amazingly powerful, as you will see after a few days.

Have A Vision Of Your Life: How many times have you heard that you must visualize what you want in order to get it? Did you know that in studies with Olympic-calibre athletes, tests have shown that they performed just as well after visualizing themselves going through the motions with precision, as when they actually practiced physically? Additionally, in brain and muscle tests, all the same neurons in the brain and muscle fibres in the body were activated during intense visualization as during the actual athletic endeavour. Amazing? YES! Use this to your advantage in your own life! Practice and improve your ability to clearly and precisely picture yourself being in the situations you wish to create. There are some guided meditations in the Wealth Beyond Reason program that we have found to be very helpful with this process.

HEALTH: This has been addressed in many places, but my two best tips are: Eat less, and more often. Studies have shown that those who eat less actually survive longer, and with this happy, passionate life you are building you'll want to prolong it as much as you can! Also, eating smaller amounts every 3-4 hours serves to boost your metabolism and burn more fat...helping you to be healthier and have more energy. Think of your metabolism like a fire...consistently feed it in little amounts. If you starve it or smother it, the results will be less to your liking.

The second tip is to get moving, and do it consistently. This one thing, if you are not already doing it, will make a huge difference for you. Go for walks, take up new sports - do whatever you have to do to stay active, and enjoy increased energy and stamina, as well as more clarity in your thoughts.

ROLE MODELS: Get some new ones. Look for people and situations that empower you, and remind you of the magnificence of the human spirit and what is possible. This lifts you out of your narrow, every day focus, and gives you a broader perspective.

Do you know the 5 closest friends is the average wage / amount of money you will also earn.

So put in place and have a look at just those 5 little areas in your life and you will notice and amazing difference nearly instantly.

Enjoy life, live with passion, purpose and happiness!
BusinessIs Your Net Working? by annybliss(op): 3:08am On Jul 21, 2013
You are looking for a job. Who do you know? But, more importantly, who knows you? In the book, The Secrets of Savvy Networking, the author writes, "It's important to have know-how. It's equally important to have know-who." This statement was reinforced by Dorothy Hudson, a Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) enrollee who, after being with the same company for 19 years, was laid off. When forced to reenter the job market, Ms. Hudson said "my first rude awakening was it was no longer a matter of what you knew but who you knew".

This has become a reality for many older workers. They are quickly realizing that in today's world, the best way to get a job is through direct contact and personal relationships. Most jobs are never advertised. They are a part of the hidden job market. And, to tap into that market, you must know and understand the basis of networking. A few tips to help you enter the world of networking are:

Understand the term. The term "network" frightens many job seekers- young and old. Some view it as "using" people. Networking isn't about using people; it's about making contacts and building relationships. When you understand the importance of networking, even in everyday life, it should come as naturally to you as walking.

Give back. Reciprocity or giving back is the cornerstone of networking. This doesn't mean that you must give something back to the person who gave you the lead or referral. It does mean, however, giving to others; and expecting nothing in return. Think of it as "paying it forward".

Expand your circle. Step outside of your comfort zone. Meet some new people. When you step outside of your comfort zone, you open yourself up to new experiences, new learning opportunities, and new possibilities. When you meet and connect with a new person, follow up within 48 hours, with a "nice to have met you" phone call, email, or short note. And, periodically, keep in touch.

Tell everyone. Talk about your job search to anyone who will listen. Jane, for example, was out of work for 8 months before she let any of her friends know. What got in the way? Ego and pride. Don't let your pride and ego stand in the way of your success. Tell anyone who will listen what you are looking for. Tell your neighbors, church members, family members, and friends. Let complete strangers know that you are looking for a job. And, remind them repeatedly.

Finally, be prepared. Know what you are looking for and jump at any opportunity to sell yourself. People hire people they know.

HealthBrain Exercises And How They Help Your Memory by annybliss(op): 9:11am On Jul 20, 2013
Memory can be defined as our brain's ability to process 'the stored information' that we have learned in the past. It may sound like a very simple process but memory is a very complex procedure and whenever we try to remember things, we are activating multiple parts of the brain.

A minor amount of memory will be lost by age but this does not mean that it can affect day-to-day function. Poor nutrition, no physical activity, and a lack of brain stimulation are the most common reasons for memory lapses in many people. If you consume nutritious foods which are great for your brain, maintain good physical health, and engage in mentally stimulating activities, you can significantly improve your ability to memorize and recall details.

As a matter of fact, there are many workout techniques for your brain:

Classical Music: Music has a great role to play in stimulating our brain and it is believed that listening to music for a couple of hours each week will aid with memory and overall brain function.

Reading: Reading is a great way to gather more information and engage your mind. People who read on a regular basis usually have greater memory power and are more adept at recalling information and score higher on reading comprehension.

Pay Attention: Paying attention is very important in acquiring the details you want to remember later. If you do not pay proper attention to something, the information will not be encoded adequately into your brain. It is believed that it takes only less than 10 seconds to focus and store information into the brain.

Visual Enhancements: Aesthetics in your home or office can improve your brain's visual skills. We know that certain colors and methods of lighting are more conducive to learning and studying. Fixing a new fish tank or painting the walls in interesting colors are two simple examples on how to improve the knowledge acquisition ability of brain. Flower vases as well as wall paintings are other examples.

Respiratory Exercises: Respiratory workouts are a great way to improve the oxygen delivery to the brain. The brain has an extraordinary demand for oxygen and the quest to enhance memory can't be considered complete without performing breathing exercises.

Stress Management: Stress can have a huge impact on memory. The more stressed and anxious you are, the more difficult it is to both acquire and recall information. Practicing stress-reduction techniques can pay great dividends for your memory.

Sleep Habits: Good sleep hygiene is vital to a well-functioning brain. Lack of sleep or poor sleep habits will adversely affect your memorizing abilities.

Board Games: Board games such as chess, checkers, solitaire and Sudoku are known for their ability to provide challenges to the brain. Make it a habit to play games on a regular basis.

These exercises and activities are very simple to do and most are inexpensive and easy to implement. Make an effort to engage in these activities on a regular basis and your brain will thank you for it.

FamilyTrust Is A Two Way Street by annybliss(op): 8:55am On Jul 20, 2013
Trust, Webster's dictionary defines it as assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. It is a value that is earned but is extremely important to who we are and creating success in our careers and our lives. Trust, we hear this word and it is tied to so many emotions. Trust is an understanding and an agreement between people. But building trust is a two way street. Trust is created by believing in others and showing vulnerability. Being the first to let go of control, just as I trusted my Grandfather, he also trusted in me by letting go.

When looking at trust you must be willing to let go of information. This will help to create a sense of trust and any doubts that people may have. Self-disclosure is important to the building of trust and letting others know what you stand for, what your values are, what you want and what you will or will not to do. This doesn't mean that everyone will feel comfortable with your position but this will bring about an understanding of who you are and ultimately bring a sense of trust to the relationship in the workplace or in our personal lives. When building trust with others it is truly an understanding of who you are and where you are coming from. This includes asking for help when needed and providing help and understanding when others need it.

Trust can't be forced, however. If someone is bent on misunderstanding others and refuses to perceive them as well-intentioned or competent, there is little that you can do to change this. Trust takes time and reluctance is a natural reaction in the beginning. Give them time, be open and honest and create a sense of security. Be true to your word and open with your actions. Trust is a two way street and it always starts with you.

FamilyThe Best Ways To Lose Weight With The Law Of Attraction! by annybliss(op): 1:49am On Jul 19, 2013
As you are well aware that the law of attraction states that like attracts like. This implies that whatever you are feeling and thinking on a subconscious level, you will attract that. Begin to analyze your beliefs about physical fitness and being obese if you are obese and wish to get in shape.

These are the concerns you might be having:

1. Is it an uphill task to lose weight and get into shape?

2. Does being in shape means calorie counting, starving yourself for food or denial of something you like the most?

3. When thinking about slimming down now, do memories of previous failures surround your mind?

4. When considering workout, does it seem uninteresting or a duty to do?

5. Do you wish to lose weight rapidly or are you thinking about lifestyle changes that will keep the weight off?

6. Do you truly think that I can do this with the law of attraction?

The reality is that it took you a long time to reach where you are today as it didn't happen overnight. You had experienced many thoughts and imaginations for a long time that resulted in yourself being overweight. You have developed a particular mindset and weight gain is simply a sign of this belief.

By using the law of attraction, you will start to change those routines and practices and the above concerns will help you in identifying precisely how you feel about losing weight. Many people wish to lose weight rapidly with tablets, extreme diet plans and workout programs and although these things could take the weight off, it is harder to keep it off for ever, since an essential thing has not been taken care of which is - Your belief.

By comprehending and making use of the law of attraction, you start to condition your mind to immediately make the right choices for making healthy changes in your everyday life that could result in a physique you have dreamed since long. Below are some easy steps in making use of the law of attraction to lose weight:

1. Get your photo when you were of an ideal weight or a photo of somebody who is having the ideal shape.

2. Get a pair of trousers that are 3 sizes bigger than your size.

3. Chant an affirmation like "I'm looking my best " or " I'm in great shape ".

In order to lose weight, you can also use the law of attraction for half an hour or so everyday wearing oversized clothes to help with the feeling of being slimmer. While doing that, you look at the ideal weight photograph and get involved in the feeling of being that which you are now. Then keep stating the affirmation you have developed for yourself. You can state it aloud or in your heart. You will find this entertaining and if you feel that you are doing it as a duty, then you are not doing it correctly. It could however be difficult to get into the feeling of being in shape if throughout your life, it has been the opposite. Practice will be very helpful here and try your best to feel great, slim and anything you wish to become throughout the 30 to 60 minutes every single day.

Do not expect outcomes overnight, however if you stick to your everyday program, you will start to unconsciously make the right choices in your day-to-day life that will help you get in the shape you want. Don't forget that affirmations alone will not help but to accomplish your health goals, it is important to also get into the habit of eating healthy food, exercising on a regular basis and having proper rest as well.

With the law of attraction, you will eventually discover that it is possible to look for healthy food choices and doing workouts for a better health and with continued devotion and determination, you will be among those people who have made use of this law to get into an ideal shape.

FamilyHow Women Can Influence Those People In Their Lives. by annybliss(op): 1:17pm On Jul 17, 2013
Just like men, women also need to have exceptional qualities in order to be good at business. Amongst the qualities women need to have, being able to influence people is one of them. Here's 5 tips on how women can influence those people in their lives:

1. Do things for other people: One of the easiest ways through which you can influence others is to do something for them. If you are looking to do business with someone for example, take them out for a meal or for a cup of coffee. However do not talk about business unless your client does so. Instead, indulge in small talk, ask some questions and listen to what the other person has to say. Get to know them as a person first. This will help in building trust and the relationship between you and your colleague will certainly increase.

2. Treat them like your friends (but not too casual!): Think of your customers as being your friends. Try to help improve their lives without bringing up the topic of the product which you are selling. Behave in a way they would want to reciprocate, not because they feel they are obliged. No one likes to do things by being forced or obligated. The best way is to always treat your customer respectfully and like a friend.

3. Be Sensitive: Be someone to whom people feel they can relate to and open up to. Be aware of other people's needs and be concerned about them. The more empathetic you are, the more you will be able to influence people in the right way. It will give the impression you are approachable and trustworthy.

4. Be polite and say thank you: Take advantage of any opportunity which you may get to do nice things for someone. Be kind and do things for others so that they will learn to appreciate you more. Say thank you to people when appropriate, remember special occasions and speak to them about things that interest them. By building a rapport, it is more likely you will be in a position to influence them after some time.

5. Give rather than get: Giving others something is valued much more than getting something from them. People are much more honored and valued by their peers if they give something to the society and individuals, rather than only taking things from them. When you meet someone, try doing something nice for them, rather than anticipating them to do something. Make the first gesture; it will be to your benefit.

Influencing others is not something which everyone is comfortable or capable of doing but with practice, and when the right strategy and right behavior is adopted, it is certainly quite possible. Women are certainly capable of influencing others and doing great business. It is all a matter of making use of the right strategy and saying the right thing at the right time. Influencing is certainly the key for succeeding. Done with the right intent and working with the right people, influencing can be a very enjoyable conversation.

FamilyCommunication With Your Infant by annybliss(op): 7:28am On Jul 17, 2013
We are now living an age in which conversing with one another is fast and easy. We can contact someone from everywhere with our cell phone, we can text and e-mail and instant message friends family and fellow workers. Because of emoticons we no longer need to try and figure out the tone of the penned word, the little smiley or sad face let us know, yes conversation has never been easier, that is until you have your first baby. Regrettably they are not delivered with emoticons. New mothers must figure out just what is wrong with the little one just from the sound of his cry. Don't allow any person tell you this crying thing is easy to figure out, it's not and it can take a while to figure out just what your baby is saying to you. Here are a few things to keep in mind to assist you learn to understand your new baby's communication.

First remember this world is brand new for the newborn baby. When he gestating , he or she did exactly what he wanted when he wanted and he or she felt safe and sound in the small restrained space. Now he is in a enormous New World and has to wait for someone else to feed him, change his baby diapers, and on top of that he spends his waking hours trying to learn new things. No wonder he sleeps a lot. So do not get all nervous that you have not developed a sleeping and eating schedule that is the exact same each day. You'll get there as he gets used to this new worlds.

Many new moms think they should instantly know why baby is crying. Because they can't figure it out the minute the child is born they get nervous and tense. Your newborn can pick up the tension and tension and it can make him uncomfortable. The only way he can express is discomfort would be to cry, which makes you even tenser. You see the vicious cycle you are making. Unwind and know that you are a good mother and that extremely soon you will know what each and every cry is and communicating properly with your baby.

A big part of communication is trust. Your child has to understand to trust you and the greatest way you can assist him do that is by picking him up when he cries. For years individuals said that if you picked up your baby when he was sobbing that you would spoil him. Which is incorrect; when you pick up your crying child you are letting him know that you're there to meet his needs, that he can believe in you. That's why infants stop crying a lot as they get older; they then know that you are there to fulfill his needs. Also as they get older they have the capacity to begin to calm their selves down.

The last thing you are able to do to help communicate along with your child is always to give him a protected environment to reside in. The world that your infant is residing in seems very big to him, so make it smaller and much more comforting. Your baby is most comforted inside your arms. When he's not within your arms, swaddling is a excellent method to make him really feel secure. You can find swaddling blankets on the market, but a regular receiving blanket will work as well.

Just like with any relationship, you and infant will get to know each other really well. Soon your baby will become a lot more relaxed with his environment Soon just your simple touch will calm him. He just needs to be reassured from time to time that you simply are there to take care of him.
FamilyCommunication In A Relationship by annybliss(op): 7:20am On Jul 17, 2013
Communication is a vital part of our lives: a typical day involves many interactions between ourselves, our work colleagues and clients, our children, our friends, our ex's, future relationships, etc. This interaction takes place where we live, work, relax, socialize and wherever we perform routine tasks.

Communication skills are critical for building healthy relationships, especially when one realizes that one of the most common causes of relational breakdown is a lack of communication. Just as communication can be the most important part of a relationship; arguments can be the most destructive aspect - the closer we are to someone, the more easily we can bruise or be bruised. There is very little truth in the saying: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me." It's not what we say, but rather how we say it, that most often hurts another person.

Do you identify with any of these statements?

"He never listens to me when I talk!"

"She talks and talks, but never actually says anything!"

"It's like talking to a brick wall"

"I can't get through to you"

"We can't talk about anything important without getting into a fight"

"She's too emotional - she's either crying or shouting or complaining. It's easier to avoid her"

"He always gets defensive when I try to talk about issues"

Communication is a complex process; of which speaking only makes up for 10-20%. The other 80-90% is made up by facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc.

Communication is the art/ science of transferring a thought/ idea/ information from the mind of one complex human being to the mind of one or more complex human being(s). For communication to be effective, it must be a two-way process.

Dynamics of Interpersonal Communication

1. Facts: are both people communicating about the same set of facts? Try to separate the facts from thoughts or feelings.

2. Interpretations, Thoughts or Perceptions: Each person interprets a fact differently based on their belief system, personality, values and experience.

3. Feelings: how we are feeling, our current mood and frame of mind, etc can sub-consciously affect decisions and thoughts.

4. Intentions, Needs or Wants: hidden agendas; are we looking for comfort, clarification, information or simply a chance to interact? We judge ourselves on our intentions.

5. Actions: choice of words (is the intent to create harm?) + tone of voice + non-verbal speech = body language, posture, eye contact, facial expressions, etc.

"The medium is the message" => the way the message is delivered is the message itself.

6. Self: The communication centre, which includes the issue, topic or conflict at hand, has been "filtered" by the facts, interpretations, thoughts, feelings, intentions, and choices of behaviour / actions.

Listening and Feedback

Did I say what I meant to say? - Invite feedback to clarify communication.

Someone who's not listening lets their mind drift and is already preparing the next argument or opposing thought; inaccurate feedback or limited eye contact.

Listening is an active, not a passive process. When two people argue, they only hear "what they want to hear", not what's actually said. This equates to the accusation of "not listening". Most couples start arguing and within 5 minutes are arguing about the way they are arguing.

Don't argue when you're angry - you will not be able to listen objectively. Give yourself time to cool down and then broach the subject when you are in a more reasonable frame of mind.

It's important to give feedback - checking and confirming. Did I understand you correctly? Is this what you mean? I heard you say this: am I right? Feedback can be verbal / non-verbal e.g. a nod, smile, silence or a cold shoulder. No feedback is in itself a form of feedback.

If the words and actions contradict each other, it is better to believe the actions!

Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution can either be Constructive or Destructive.

Destructive Style - hinders or inhibits the conflict resolution process:

Confrontational (win or lose, blaming)

Sabotage (focus on weak points, shaming)

Manipulation (blackmail, withdrawal)

Giving in (passive, submissive)

Avoidance (denial, withdrawal)

Constructive Style (trying to minimize the issues and avoiding the difficulties in resolving the problems)

Compromise (meet halfway, understanding)

Accommodate (open discussion, communication without confrontation)

Partnership (solutions, forgiveness, honesty)

When trying to resolve conflicts, try to clarify your goals, as you will probably share many of the same goals despite of your differences. Avoid bargaining, as this may lead to each party taking a rigid position which in turn can flare tempers.

When resolving conflicts, remember that their causes may run deep. Sweeping issues under the carpet isn't going to work in the long term, as old baggage will be brought up each time an argument starts. Try to fully resolve each issue as it comes along.
