Career / It's About You, Not Just The Details, That Produces Decisions by annybliss(f): 7:13am On Dec 15, 2013
We often find ourselves in situations that necessitate an ability to excellently explain one's positions and reasoning, in order to get others to buy into our vision and resultant course of action. As in sales, great leaders must entice listeners to listen more carefully, care more, and become motivated sufficiently to cause a positive and meaningful reaction. Most listeners become easily distracted and stop paying attention when someone simply describes features and advantages, because they really want to know how these purported features impact them in a positive and meaningful manner. Unless the advantages are presented in a relevant manner that ties together the features offered and how they will improve someone's life or situation, they become relevantly irrelevant. One can never truly lead when others consider his words to be irrelevant. True relevance comes as a result of two main factors: 1) Whether people are made to care about what something does for them, and why that is important; and 2) Whether others believe in the messenger, and feel he empathizes and cares about them, and will actually perform as he promises.

1. For example, many real estate professionals offer features rather than actions and relevance, as the reason to do business with them. This is also true for many in leadership, who almost appear emotionally detached (even when they might care deeply) because they speak in impersonal generalities. Realtors who focus on features such as their website, corporate structure, volume, name recognition, etc. often are overlooked for consideration, because many homeowners would prefer to business with someone who carefully explains what each of these features will offer them, and how it might expedite the homeowner achieving his goal. For example, when the focus is on goals, such as selling one's home at the highest possible price (in the existing market conditions), in the shortest period of time, with the least degree of hassle, often are far more motivating than the agent that goes into detail about features. Leaders that focus on specifics and their meaning, rather than on generalities and rhetoric, face a far easier road in terms of motivating others to buy into their approach and vision.

2. In nearly situation and walk of life, people prefer doing business with, and even listening to, those that they feel are being the most sincere, being the most effective listeners, and maintaining absolute integrity. This may be lumped into the category of whether or not someone believes and trusts another, and unless there is some sort of personal connect (instead of disconnect).

Great leadership, which means striving for the most optimal and successful results, requires an understanding that the most essential component of any message is the efficacy of the messenger! Do others truly believe in you?

Family / How Do You React To Situations? by annybliss(f): 6:54am On Dec 15, 2013
Nearly everyone faces some sort of stress on a somewhat regular basis. These stresses are often related to personal or family considerations, business related concerns, unknown or unpredicted situations or events, or facing some sort of obstacle. How each of us react to these stresses generally determine our eventual effectiveness or success. Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Hans Selye identified two forms of stress, and categorized them into two forms; 1) Distress, or those that are non - productive and somewhat destructive and disruptive; and 2) Eustress, which are those stresses that we learn from and become more effective, better, and learn something from.

1. How do you react to stress? Do you face them head on, or do you attempt to hide from them and use avoidance techniques? Do you prepare for the possibilities, and do you rely on planning and preparation, or do you simply procrastinate and enjoy some degree of denial, until there is some sort of crisis that mandates and forces you to react? It is almost always better to be proactive than reactive, and how well one plans and prepares is often a major factor in success!

2. Are those scenarios that are often considered to be unknown truly that way, or are they that way because we do not prepare to our fullest potential and capabilities? One of the most prevailing fears is the fear of the unknown, so wouldn't it make sense to learn more, prepare more, plan for contingencies with numerous backup plans, etc., so that little is unplanned? Those that plan most thoroughly are nearly always best prepared for eventualities, thus avoiding being as overwhelmed as those that do not!

3. Everyone faces certain obstacles at some time, but what differentiates the most prepared from the others, is how one reacts to these. Do you perceive of obstacles as stress inducing problems, or is your mindset that they are challenges that you are prepared for, and will overcome? Obviously, when someone proceeds with a positive, can - do mindset, he reduces his distress, because he sees things to get things done, rather than fearing what might occur. There are far more individuals that spend the majority of their time worrying and procrastinating, than being definitive and impactful, through the dedication and commitment to positive proactivity and the perception that one will succeed.

Are you really prepared for life's occurrences, or do you avoid confronting challenges proactively? How things will end up are often up to you!

Health / Eat Right For Your Type by annybliss(f): 6:26am On Oct 20, 2013
The Eat Right for Your Type diet encourages people to eat certain foods and avoid others based on their blood type -- A, B, AB, or O.
Blood types affect the digestive system and that some foods good for people of one type are "dangerous" for another. It goes further than that for D'Adamo, a naturopathic doctor, who believes that your blood type also determines your susceptibility to certain illnesses and how you should exercise.

Below is a chart listing various foods that are either highly beneficial, neutral or deleterious for the respective blood types.

Family / Have You Committed To A Personal Financial Plan? by annybliss(f): 7:13am On Oct 19, 2013
How many times have you heard the adage that most people don't plan to fail, but that they often fail to plan? Few individuals purposely or at least consciously decide to avoid planning for their financial planning, but at the same time, many people never formally create their own financial plan, and even fewer actually commit to following that plan. Everyone has certain financial needs, and these include: planning for retirement; creating a funding source for a child's education; having a reserve for emergencies and/ or contingencies; having an opportunities fund, etc. While we all have different priorities and needs, goals, and aspirations, those that formally plan and then commit to their personal financial plan generally live a far less stressful and worried existence.

1. Retirement: Those who believe that Social Security will provide their major source of retirement funds are often devastated when they retire. While this program provides a safety net, with what goes on politically, no one can be absolutely certain in what form this might exist in the future, nor even when the official retirement age might be. Therefore, wise individuals plan by focusing on what they will need when they do retire, at least in present day dollars. Then they adjust that figure by an average inflation rate, and then determine what they need for their retirement needs. The best way to do this, for most individuals, is to, on regular and consistent basis, put away a regular dollar amount. Doing this, for example, on the same day each month, creates a habit of saving, is more easily achieved, and creates what is referred to as a dollar cost averaging (putting away the same amount on the same date every month, so that fluctuations become far less of a factor). Reliable mutual funds which diversify are generally a relatively easy way to do so. It is recommended that you speak to a professional financial planner or adviser or attorney who specializes in this area.

2. Children's Education: Do you really want to put your child into an enormous amount of debt before he even begins his work career? Doesn't it make sense to begin planning for this need when a child is very young, so that a systematic, periodic investment plan can significantly reduce this burden?

3. Emergencies, Contingencies, and Opportunities: Don't let something unexpected put you in a real bind! Rather, create your own emergencies and contingencies fund. Have you ever wished you had the resources to take advantage of a great opportunity, but had to pass on it because you didn't have the funds to do so? The solution is planning in an organized manner?

Like most aspects of our lives, those who plan meaningfully and act strategically end up with the best results. Would you rather plan to succeed and achieve your financial needs and goals, or would you prefer to merely fail to plan and let the chips fall where they may?

Career / Stop, Wait, And Take A Deep Breath by annybliss(f): 7:01am On Oct 19, 2013
One of the most consistent errors made by those in leadership is to immediately and emotionally respond to situations, criticisms, words or positions of others. It is inherent on a true leader to remain patient and in control, both of his circumstances, as well as his emotions and behaviors. Therefore, it would be wise for a leader, when facing any sort of confrontation or adverse circumstances, to force himself to stop, then wait to react or speak, and to take a series of deep breaths to calm himself, delay over - reacting, reduce his stress, and delay acting too quickly.

1. Rule one must be to never overreact! All too often, because of our personal biases or prejudgments, our tendency to react and over - react far too quickly, and to interrupt others when we should instead effectively listen, causes us to create an adversarial atmosphere instead of a cooperative, alternative - thinking, solutions - oriented one.

2. Remember that there is a big difference between merely hearing, as opposed to effective listening. In order to effectively listen, one must remain open - minded, listen to the concerns and needs of others, and delay making up one's mind unless and until he has all the information/ facts available. Open up one's mind and permit a more thorough and complete understanding, thus enhancing the potential to optimize results, etc.

3. Great leaders must be conciliators and find common ground, when some sort of alternative approach is possible, without compromising goals, ideals or personal integrity. This requires both patience and persistence, as well as a willingness to avoid blame and share credit. Great leaders never let their ego become a destructive force!

4. Some issues are more of a priority than others, so a smart leader will always pick and choose his battles, and spend more effort and resources on the more important matters than on those that a compromise will not hamper his goals. This requires a cooperative mindset, combined with the avoidance of the "I have all the answers and the only way," mindser.

5. Before responding, always be certain that you understand the crux of the matter, and precisely what the point that others are making. Most of us have a tendency to react based on what our perceptions are, rather than taking the time to further explore, ask meaningful and probing questions, and be certain of what concerns need to be addressed. Over - reacting before being certain of what is being asked opens up the potential of opening up a Pandora's Box, by putting additional negatives into others' minds, that they might otherwise not have been concerned with.

Are you willing to "chill out," and wait a moment, but not procrastinating? Remember that great leadership is often about being comfortable enough to avoid feeling personally challenged when others seek clarification.

Career / Learn To Laugh More by annybliss(f): 8:02am On Oct 10, 2013
Whether you are interested in leading an organization, a business, or simply getting a better handle on self - direction, there is little doubt that having a sense of humor is an extraordinarily powerful asset and trait. Humorless leaders take themselves far too seriously, and this often causes a necessary disconnect in terms of developing human bonds. In addition, when one refuses to laugh, and especially to occasionally laugh at himself, he creates an over - concentration on negative energies, and relies far too little on the human aspects of effective and meaningful leadership. There are numerous reasons that anyone wanting to excel as a leader should evaluate how humor might impact his potential success.

1. Humor creates a can - do mindset, because rather than focusing on the behaviors and even negative behaviors of those around him, it lets someone avoid that negativity and see absurdities as precisely that. By doing this, one is able to avoid the far too often fixation on blaming others for their perceived faults, poor behaviors, or actions, and rather maintaining a perspective permitting an extraordinary degree of personal growth and positive reflection.

2. When you are able and willing to laugh rather than being serious always, it enhances your mood and potentiates ones ability to focus on what needs to be done. When more time is spent doing than blaming, it invariably makes someone and his organization stronger, better, more likeable, and far more capable.

3. A sense of humor generally attracts others to you to a far greater degree. It does so by utilizing the positive forces of the Laws of Attraction, by making an individual more attractive to those around him. Humor also tends to make actions more fun, and often makes a point that otherwise might not be even considered. The most impactful humor invariably teaches us important lessons, but does so in a more low key and fun matter. Would you prefer being around someone without a sense of humor who often takes himself far too seriously? Or, would you prefer spending time with some with a sense of humor, who clearly indicates his willingness to try to connect and to listen to your needs? Truly, those with the more positive approach, often are more willing to look at alternatives, and not believe that there is only one way to do anything. There are always many routes that can be taken to accomplish essential goals.

Pay attention to your attitude, mood, words and approach to humor. Laugh more and improve your results.

Family / Focus First On Value And Success Will Follow by annybliss(f): 7:44am On Oct 10, 2013
How many times have you, or someone you known, insisted they their goal was to become truly successful, while often never really describing what success meant to them? Success is not something to be focused upon, but rather will come as a result of our attitudes, actions, how meaningful our visions and goals might be, our personal values, and especially, whether we prioritize providing value to others on a consistent basis. When we focus solely on our personal benefit, as well as the what's in it for me prioritization, we may observe short term or even intermediate term basis, but will almost never become truly successful. Success, in the longer term, is almost invariably based on the value that we provide to others as a result of our attitudes, efforts, and actions taken.

1. Step number one must always be to do the right thing! Unfortunately, however, far too few individuals permit themselves to objectively view their personal attitudes, and without knowing and understanding oneself, it is nearly impossible to become value - oriented. By providing value, you are able to motivate others to care more, do more, and become far more loyal and involved!

2. The next component of achieving true success is refocusing one's mindset from focusing on how much money or credit you'll receive on a particular deal or action, but rather seeking to provide real value. Doing this will indicate to others how much you care, as well as the fact that you are a quality individual of absolute integrity. The side effect of doing so is invariably that this value will make it far easier to develop referrals, repeat customers, loyal clients, motivated followers, etc. Providing value helps to create a stronger bond which attracts quality individuals to care more about what you say and do!

3. What value do you add, and how? Do you ever actually think about that, and if so, do you so as a primary action, or merely tangentially? What do you mean by this term? What steps do you take on a regular basis? Do you possess an attitude of constructively moving forward, or are you often doubtful? Do you see challenges, or is everything a problem to you? What actually motivates you, and why?

While most people might claim that they hope to either be a success or have success, few ever take the time and effort to consider what that means to them. Unless success becomes a byproduct of your actions and efforts, and unless value and values are your primary motivations, any success realized will be more fleeting than enduring.

Health / Antioxidants: Benefits And Sources by annybliss(f): 1:43am On Oct 09, 2013
Antioxidants

Our bodies are battlegrounds against infection and diseases. Normal body functions such as breathing or physical activity and other lifestyle habits such as smoking produce substances called free radicals that attack healthy cells. When these healthy cells are weakened, they are more susceptible to cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancers. Antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E and carotenoids, which include beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein, help protect healthy cells from damage caused by free radicals.

The effect of free radicals

Some of the degenerative conditions caused by free radicals include:

Deterioration of the eye lens, which contributes to blindness
Inflammation of the joints (arthritis)
Damage to nerve cells in the brain, which contributes to conditions such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease
Acceleration of the ageing process
Increased risk of coronary heart disease, since free radicals encourage low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol to stick to artery walls
Certain cancers, triggered by damaged cell DNA.

Vitamin supplements

There is increasing evidence that antioxidants are more effective when obtained from whole foods, rather than isolated from a food and presented in tablet form – and some supplements can actually increase cancer risk. For instance, vitamin A (beta-carotene) has been associated with a reduced risk of certain cancers, but an increase in others, such as lung cancer in smokers, if vitamin A is purified from foodstuffs.

A study examining the effects of vitamin E found that it did not offer the same benefits when taken as a supplement. Also, antioxidant minerals or vitamins can act as pro-oxidants or damaging ‘oxidants’ if they are consumed at levels significantly above the recommended amounts for dietary intake.

A well-balanced diet, which includes consuming antioxidants from whole foods, is best. If you insist on taking a supplement, seek supplements that contain all nutrients at the recommended levels.

Carotenoids

Among the 600 or more carotenoids in foods, beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein are well-known leaders in the fight to reduce the damage from free radicals. Foods high in carotenoids may be effective allies against prostate cancer (beta-carotene); cancers of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum (lycopene); and may help decrease your risk of macular degeneration (lutein).

Foods high in carotenoids include red, orange, deep-yellow and some dark-green leafy vegetables, like tomatoes, carrots, spinach, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, winter squash and broccoli.
Vitamin E

Research has demonstrated the broad role of vitamin E in promoting health. The main role of vitamin E is as an antioxidant. It helps protect your body from cell damage that can lead to cancer, heart disease and cataracts as we age. Vitamin E works with other antioxidants like vitamin C to offer protection from some chronic diseases. Vitamin E is found in vegetable oils, salad dressings, margarine, wheat germ, whole-grain products, seeds, nuts and peanut butter.
Vitamin C

Perhaps the best-known antioxidant, vitamin C offers a wide-variety of health benefits, including protecting from infection and damage to body cells, helping produce collagen (the connective tissue that holds bones and muscles together); protecting your body from bruising by keeping capillary walls and blood vessels firm; and helping in the absorption of iron and folate.

To take advantage of these benefits, eat foods rich in vitamin C like citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruits and tangerines), strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and potatoes.

General recommendations for antioxidants

Research is divided over whether or not antioxidant supplements offer the same health benefits as antioxidants in foods. It is recommended that people eat a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and dairy products every day.

Your diet should include five daily serves of fruit and vegetables. One serve is a medium-sized piece of fruit or a half-cup of cooked vegetables. It is also thought that antioxidants and other protective constituents from vegetables, legumes and fruit need to be consumed regularly from early life to be effective. See your doctor or dietitian for advice.

Health / Blood-types-how-it-is-determined by annybliss(f): 12:34am On Oct 09, 2013
Blood Types
Although all blood is made of the same basic elements, not all blood is alike. In fact, there are eight different common blood types, which are determined by the presence or absence of certain antigens – substances that can trigger an immune response if they are foreign to the body. Since some antigens can trigger a patient's immune system to attack the transfused blood, safe blood transfusions depend on careful blood typing and cross-matching.

There are four major blood groups determined by the presence or absence of two antigens – A and B – on the surface of red blood cells:

Group A – has only the A antigen on red cells (and B antibody in the plasma)
Group B – has only the B antigen on red cells (and A antibody in the plasma)
Group AB – has both A and B antigens on red cells (but neither A nor B antibody in the plasma)
Group O – has neither A nor B antigens on red cells (but both A and B antibody are in the plasma)

There are very specific ways in which blood types must be matched for a safe transfusion:

Career / If You Take No Risks, You'll Never Do Anything Great! by annybliss(f): 8:16am On Oct 04, 2013
Great leaders cannot be controlled by trying to avoid making any mistakes or being criticized. Rather, they always realize that unless someone is willing to take on some risk, he will never accomplish anything of any meaning. In fact, the only individual who never will do anything risky is someone who does nothing.
However, after full consideration, it must be understood that doing nothing is perhaps the riskiest and most potentially dangerous action of all. True leadership requires: 1. Having the courage of one's convictions and be guided by them; 2. Absolute focus and commitment; 3. There is never a perfect time to do anything, and you never have the luxury of waiting for things to happen rather than making them happen; and, 4. Learn, think, analyze, and then do it! (Take action)

1. You are not a real leader if you are guided by your fears, rather than being led by what's right and wrong, what's needed and necessary, and what needs to be done to assure that what you do is the best present course to getting where you hope to be.

2. Real leaders cannot partially commit, and must take care to pay attention to details, plan and prepare thoroughly and effectively, commit to one's plan, focus on the goals that you hope to achieve and feel are needed, and doing all you can to transform your dreams to meaningful goals, and then using one's goals as a guide to create an action plan. True focus must be an absolute, and must be principled and in accordance with the mission of an orgnization.

3. Perhaps the most essential lesson that any leader must learn and understand is that there is never a perfect or ideal time to do anything. One may not wait for the luxury of waiting for that to happen, but must analyze the needs and situations, and develop a plan and take action in a timely manner. Some not ready for prime time pseudo - leaders are stifled by their fears, when what is needed is to understand the risks, but understand that there are always ramifications of either taking action or avoiding doing so. In the vast majority of instances, procrastination is the single biggest "cancer" to achieving to one's potential.

4. True leaders are constantly training, learning from what they are taught and experience in order to develop needed expertise, know what it means to think and doing so, comprehensively analyzing, and then doing whatever is needed in a proactive and impactful manner.

Great leaders must be willing to take risks. However, following an intelligent and focused approach translates to actual risk management and the best and most meaningful leadership.

Career / How Do You Earn Respect? by annybliss(f): 8:03am On Oct 04, 2013
Have you ever thought about whether you have earned the respect of others? Even more importantly, do you earn your own respect each and every day? Perhaps the most essential component of maintaining a worthwhile and positive experience is how you feel about yourself, and whether your words, actions and integrity are consistent and absolute.

1. Most of us have treated certain individuals with perhaps a greater degree of respect that they might even deserve, because of a factor that is often referred to as deference. Deference may be explained as the respect that we grant to others based on their position, degree, perceived expertise, experiences, oration, etc. However, true respect must be earned to be maintained and meaningful, while deference is often temporary and/ or fleeting.

2. Is your behavior and attitude consistent, or do your words and actions often differ? Do you mean what you say, and say what you mean, or are you merely saying what you perceive and believe others might want to hear? Is doing the right thing the most essential part, or do you prioritize simply agreeing with others, and avoiding either conflict or making any waves?

3. Do you understand that there is only one form of true integrity and that it must be absolute? Have you ever focused on your personal integrity, and realized that without integrity, there is no honest way to actually respect yourself! in addition, unless you respect yourself, how could you possibly expect to earn anyone else's?

4. Have you consistently sought out additional training, and taken that training to heart by converting it to meaningful learning? Do the components that you have learned help you gain real knowledge, and has that knowledge enhanced your judgment in a significant and meaningful manner? Have you sought out combining your learning with gaining true experience and learning as much as possible from those? Have you transformed your experiences into usable expertise that you can count upon when you need to make any type of decision? Do you use these traits every day, or at least on a regular basis? Most importantly, does your learning, knowledge, judgment, experiences and expertise bring about worthwhile wisdom?

5. Are you consistently open - minded and fair, willing to effectively listen to others and learn from everything you observe? Are you open to alternative approaches, and are you willing to evolve before you must do so?

Real respect won't just happen, but rather must be earned! This will only happen if you dedicate yourself, at a very minimum, to the simple yet powerful steps listed above.

Health / The Truth About Eggs by annybliss(f): 7:53am On Oct 04, 2013
Eggs have gotten a bad rap over the last few decades. Deemed bad for the heart by health experts, they have been the subjects of criticism and scrutiny. But are our white (sometimes brown) friends really that unhealthy for us? In the last few years, numerous health organizations have been vindicating eggs' reputation. So what are we to believe; why were eggs chastised, only to be acclaimed again?\

old egg myths

It was previously thought that eggs raised blood cholesterol levels -- one of the main causes of heart disease. The yolk in a single large egg contains five grams of fat, so it was only natural for nutritionists to assume that eggs clogged up people's arteries, especially since they also contain dietary cholesterol .

Another myth was that cholesterol is fat. That is simply not true. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that resembles fat, but has little to do with it. Today, scientists know that cholesterol content in food and the cholesterol in our blood aren't as directly related as once thought. So to unravel the mystery that is the egg, one must look at cholesterol.

cholesterol

First, one has to understand that cholesterol is not necessarily bad. Humans need it to maintain cell walls, insulate nerve fibers and produced vitamin D, among other things. Second, there are two types of cholesterol: dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol . Both are important.

Dietary cholesterol is found in certain foods, such as meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, and diary products. The second type (blood cholesterol, also called serum cholesterol) is produced in the liver and floats around in our bloodstream. Blood cholesterol is divided into two sub-categories: High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), and Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL). LDL cholesterol is considered bad because it sticks to artery walls.

What is bad, however, is the amount of LDL blood cholesterol in the body. Too much of it can cause heart problems, but scientists are now discovering that consuming food rich in dietary cholesterol does not increase blood cholesterol. At least that is what some experts believe (they are somewhat disagreeing on the matter... as usual).

Evidence showing that eating a lot of dietary cholesterol doesn't increase blood cholesterol was discovered during a statistical analysis conducted over 25 years by Dr. Wanda Howell and colleagues at the University of Arizona. The study revealed that people who consume two eggs each day with low-fat diets do not show signs of increased blood cholesterol levels.

So what does raise blood cholesterol? One of the main theories is that saturated fat does. Of the three types of fat (saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated), saturated fat raises blood cholesterol and LDL levels. It so happens that eggs contain mostly polyunsaturated fat, which can actually lower blood cholesterol if one replaces food containing saturated fat with eggs.

If you're a bodybuilder, you need eggs...

delicious, nutritious

Eggs are actually quite nutritious. They are not just fat (yolk) and protein (white). In fact, they contain a wide array of essential vitamins and minerals. Here is what's in an egg...

Vitamins
A: good for the skin and growth.
D: strengthens bones by raising calcium absorption.
E: protects cells from oxidation.
B1: helps properly release energy from carbohydrates.
B2: helps release energy from protein and fat.
B6: promotes the metabolism of protein.
B12: an essential vitamin in the formation of nerve fibers and blood cells.

Minerals
Iron: essential in the creation of red blood cells.
Zinc: good for enzyme stability and essential in sexual maturation.
Calcium: most important mineral in the strengthening of bones and teeth.
Iodine: controls thyroid hormones.
Selenium: like vitamin E, it protects cells from oxidation.
best type of protein
If that wasn't enough, egg whites contain the purest form of protein found in whole-foods. It is so high that nutritionists use them as the standard when comparing other whole-food proteins. Their "biological value" -- a measurement used to determine how efficiently a protein is used for growth -- is 93.7. Milk, fish, beef, and rice respectively have a bio value of 84.5, 76, 74.3, and 64.

The higher the value, the better the protein is absorbed. This is why many bodybuilders include eggs in their diet. When a person eats beef, for instance, all of the protein is not necessarily absorbed and used to rebuild tissue.

Protein is a complex substance, which is why bodybuilding protein supplement makers are constantly trying to refine the quality of their product and why some protein shake brands boast that their protein is made from egg whites. Having said that, each large egg contains 6.3 grams of protein.

how to eat eggs

Experts advise that despite being low in saturated fat, one should not eat more than two eggs a day on a low-fat diet. Egg yolk is mainly fat, so even though it doesn't raise blood cholesterol levels, it can cause other problems if abused.

Contaminated eggs kill up to 5000 individuals each year. One egg in 10,000 is contaminated with salmonella, so you should never eat undercooked eggs.
The proper way to cook eggs depends on the type of food served. Anything above that will leave the interior raw while burning the outside. If an egg has runny parts, it means it is still not cooked properly.

So now you know the truth about the incredible, edible egg. Once a foe, now a friend, this mighty whole-food contains many great nutrients and isn't as bad as people once thought. A great source of protein and easy to prepare, eggs are nature's golden food... if you don't eat too much of them, that is.

Career / Self-belief Propels You Forward by annybliss(f): 12:10am On Sep 28, 2013
How many times have each of us either referred to, or heard others refer to, how important it is to believe in yourself? While rhetorically most people say they believe in themselves, the reality of the situation is often far different. True self - belief is perhaps one of the most powerful personal motivators, in that it strengthens our positive attitude, creates a "believe you can" mindset, and evolves us into the type of individual that we aspire to be. The end result of maintaining the highest level of personal standards and ethics, and truly being able to be proud of what you believe in, is an all - inspiring level of self belief that results in propelling us forward in a positive and inspiring manner.

1. What is an authentic positive attitude, and why is it such an impactful force in the overall direction that we live? Being positive does not mean wearing rose - colored glasses, or simply always claiming that everything is either great, or merely impulsively responding when others ask how we are by saying, "Never better." True positivity is a mindset where the focus is always on ways of getting things done, rather than worrying and compulsing about what went wrong! When we focus on addressing challenges rather than perceiving of problems, we reduce our level of worrying and convert it to a progressive action plan. If you think you can, half of the battle is won! We must replace problematic thinking with thinking of ways to proceed.

2. Do you believe you can, and act accordingly, or do you believe it can't be done, and let your defeatist beliefs control you? Self - belief replaces believing something is impossible with acceptance of the improbable, but doable! The power of possibility thinking may be one of the strongest forces that impact our results.

3. Do your actions, behaviors, standards, and ethics make you proud of yourself, or do they indicate a weakness, etc? Do you maintain the highest standards on a consistent, regular and daily basis, or do you try to show these standards to others, although you are not truly committed to that level of behavior?

If you were to draw a vertical line down the middle of a page, would your belief in your worthiness outweigh your doubts and inconsistencies? Only when our self - belief is both genuine and deserved, does it become one of the strongest natural forces that creates a level of self esteem that permits us to be the best that we can be.

EATING FRUIT ~

It's not as easy as you think.
It's important to know how and when to eat.

DON'T EAT FRUIT AFTER MEALS!

FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

It will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

Eat fruit on an empty stomach or before meals! People complain, "Every time I eat watermelon I burp; when I eat apples, my stomach bloats up; when I eat a banana
Health / Brain Damaging Habits by annybliss(f): 10:56pm On Sep 27, 2013
1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level.
This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2. Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain.

STORY -- THE SCORPION

"An old man saw a scorpion drowning and decided to pull it out from the water. He calmly extended his hand to reach the creature. When he did, the scorpion stung him. With the effect of the pain, the old man let go the creature and it fell back into the water. The man realizing that the scorpion was drowning again, got back and tried to rescue it but then again it stung him. He let go of it again.

A young boy standing by, approached the old man and said, "Excuse me Sir, you are going to hurt yourself trying to save the evil-vicious creature, why do you insist? Don't you realize that each time you try to help the scorpion, it stings you?"

The man replied, "The nature of the scorpion is to sting and mine is to help. My nature will not change in helping the scorpion."

So the man thought for a while and used a leaf from a nearby tree and pulled the scorpion out from the water and saved it's life.

MORAL LESSON:
Do not change your nature. If someone hurts you, just take precautions. Some pursue happiness while others create it. Let your conscience be your guide in whatever you do."

Health / You Can Stop Snoring: Cures And Remedies by annybliss(f): 3:41am On Aug 29, 2013
Just about everyone snores occasionally, but if snoring happens frequently it can affect the quantity and quality of your sleep and that of your family members and roommates. Snoring can lead to poor sleep and daytime fatigue, irritability, and increased health problems. If your snoring keeps your partner awake, it can also create major relationship problems. Thankfully, sleeping in separate bedrooms isn’t the only remedy for snoring. There are many other effective solutions available.

The causes of snoring: Identify the cause to find the cure

Not all snoring is the same. In fact, everyone snores for different reasons. When you get to the bottom of why you snore, then you can find the right solutions to a quieter, deeper sleep.

People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of your tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. Evaluating how and when you snore will help you pinpoint whether the cause of your snoring is within your control or not. The good news is that no matter how and when you snore, there are solutions to making your snoring better.
Where does the snoring sound come from?

Snoring happens when you can't move air freely through your nose and mouth during sleep. Often caused by the narrowing of your airway, either from poor sleep posture or abnormalities of the soft tissues in your throat. A narrow airway gets in the way of smooth breathing and creates the sound of snoring.

Common causes of snoring

Age. As you reach middle age and beyond, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle tone in your throat decreases.
The way you’re built. Men have narrower air passages than women and are more likely to snore. A narrow throat, a cleft palate, enlarged adenoids, and other physical attributes that contribute to snoring are often hereditary.
Nasal and sinus problems. Blocked airways make inhalation difficult and create a vacuum in the throat, leading to snoring.
Being overweight or out of shape. Fatty tissue and poor muscle tone contribute to snoring.
Alcohol, smoking, and medications. Alcohol intake, smoking, and certain medications can increase muscle relaxation leading to more snoring.
Sleep posture. Sleeping flat on your back causes the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway.

Is it just snoring or sleep apnea?

Snoring could indicate sleep apnea, a potentially life-threatening condition that requires medical attention. Sleep apnea is a breathing obstruction, causing the sleeper to keep waking up to begin breathing again. Normal snoring doesn’t interfere with the quality of your sleep as much as sleep apnea, so if you’re suffering from extreme fatigue and sleepiness during the day, your problem may be more than just snoring.
Finding the right snoring cures, solutions, and remedies

There are so many bizarre anti-snoring devices available on the market today, with more being added all the time, that finding the right solution for your snoring can seem like a daunting task. Unfortunately, many of these unusual devices are unproven or work by simply keeping you awake at night. There are, however, plenty of proven techniques that can help you eliminate snoring. Not every remedy is right for every person, though, so it may require some patience, some lifestyle changes, and a willingness to experiment with different solutions.

The first step to solving a snoring problem is to find the cause of your snoring. Enlist your non-snoring sleep partner to help you keep a sleep diary to monitor your snoring. Observing patterns in your snoring can often help pinpoint the reasons why you snore, what makes it worse, and how to go about stopping your snoring.

How you snore reveals why you snore

It’s crucial to note the different ways you sleep and snore. Sleep positions reveal a lot, and figuring out how you snore can reveal why you snore. When you know why you snore, you can get closer to a cure.

Closed-mouth snoring may indicate a problem with your tongue.
Open-mouth snoring may be related to the tissues in your throat.
Snoring when sleeping on your back is probably mild snoring – improved sleep habits and lifestyle changes may be effective cures.
Snoring in all sleep positions can mean your snoring is more severe and may require a more comprehensive treatment.

Business / What's Your Negotiating Attitude? by annybliss(f): 3:10am On Aug 29, 2013
Effective negotiations result from a combination of knowledge, experience, expertise, clear cut goals and aspirations, perspective, persistence and attitude. However, unless a negotiator enters the process with the right attitude, there will rarely be any opportunity for meaningful or long lasting success. When negotiations are successful, it brings on a meeting of the minds, where both sides truly communicate their needs and wants, and talk to each other rather than speaking at them!

The predominant types of negotiating attitudes are: 1. Adversarial; 2. Defeatist; 3. Confident and competent; and, 4. Win - win. Nearly in every instance, the potential success of any negotiation is based on the negotiator's attitude and approach.

1. Some ineffective individuals that believe they know how to negotiate begin the process as an adversarial one. They look at negotiating as something to win, rather than trying to come to an agreement that all can feel good about. These individuals often shade the truth or facts, over - promise, ask for too much, are unreasonable, and have an inflated opinion of their negotiating position and value.

2. Others seem to have the attitude that they are over their heads, and either try to compensate by using bravado, or fail to ask the right questions, or be strong enough to stand up and defend their demands and clearly identify their needs and desires. This creates a non - communicative environment where the two sides rarely discuss the most essential elements that should be addressed through this process. When someone enters this scenario and does not believe in his abilities, ideas or ideals sufficiently to defend them, he rarely competently negotiates.

3. There is always an essential need for any negotiator to be both confident and competent. What is the training, experience or expertise level of the individuals involved in these discussions? When someone takes the process seriously, and does not begin by believing that he is automatically qualified or up for the task, he obtains a significant amount of training, understudies with experts, and gains the abilities to provide him with actual self - confidence, instead of merely false bravado.

4. One should never judge the success or effectiveness of negotiating immediately, but rather wait for the longer term results and ramifications. In order to obtain the results one seeks, he must begin with the attitude that the party across the table is not his adversary, and that they are equals. When win - win negotiating is the goal and mindset, optimal and longest lasting, most successful results and ramifications are obtained.

One of the reasons that professional negotiators are generally more successful than inexperienced individuals, is their approach and attitude to this process. Only when one begins with and maintains this needed attitude does he achieve the needed results and agreements.

Health / STROKE: You Could Save A Life. by annybliss(f): 9:18pm On Aug 28, 2013
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a party, a lady stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. (they offered to call ambulance)

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, she went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.. Her husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm , His wife passed away.)
She had suffered a stroke at the party . Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps she would be alive.

Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.
The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :

S * Ask the individual to SMILE ..
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg 'It is sunny out today').
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

NOTE : Another 'sign' of a stroke is
1. Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue.
2. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
A prominent cardiologist says if everyone who gets this information sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.. and it could be your own..

Health / Easy Homemade Mosquito Trap by annybliss(f): 6:09pm On Aug 28, 2013
Modern technology has brought us many benefits, including mosquito traps that cost a lot of money, but sometimes we overlook simple solutions to difficult challenges such as mosquito control. When it comes to controlling pests, research tends to focus on chemicals or concepts that can be patented. Unless someone can make a profit from an idea, the public may never become aware of it.

HOMEMADE MOSQUITO TRAP:

Items needed:

200 ml water
50 grams of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
2-liter plastic bottle

Or US conversion:
1 cup of water
1/4 cup of brown sugar

HOW:
1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.
2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle.
3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired.
5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are also drawn to the color black.)

Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control.

Health / Normal Glucose Levels by annybliss(f): 9:50pm On Aug 27, 2013
Maintaining normal glucose levels is essential to managing diabetes. While glucose is a necessary part of cell function, too much or too little of it can have an adverse effect on your body.
What is glucose?

Glucose is a type of sugar found in blood. Its primary function is to provide energy to our cells. We get glucose from eating foods like breads, fruit, and pasta that contain carbohydrates. During digestion, our bodies break down these carbohydrates into glucose, which then gets released into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, the body regulates glucose levels with two pancreatic hormones, insulin and glucagon. When blood sugar levels rise, insulin is produced to help transport glucose to our cells. When blood sugar levels are low, glucagon is produced to stimulate the liver to break down glycogen into glucose, which gets released into the bloodstream.

Insulin Resistance Symptoms
How does glucose relate to diabetes?

Diabetics have problems with insulin production and/or sensitivity. In people with type 1 diabetes, the pancreas is not producing enough insulin. In people with type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is usually producing insulin, but the body’s cells have become resistant to the amount being produced by the pancreas. That puts diabetics at risk for having excessively high glucose levels, a condition known as hyperglycemia. Signs of hyperglycemia include thirst, weakness, blurry vision. If glucose levels continue to rise without insulin treatment in type I diabetics, more serious consequences may include coma and even death.

Diabetics can also have troubles with excessively low glucose levels, which is known as hypoglycemia. This usually results from a combination of too much insulin, increased physical activity, and low carbohydrate intake (such as skipping a meal.) Hypoglycemia can occur in both type 1 and type 2 diabetics, but is more common in those with type 1.

Actos Side Effects
What are normal glucose levels?

Normal glucose levels for men and women without diabetes are between 70-110mg/dL after fasting for eight hours (preprandial) and under 200 mg/dL two hours after starting a meal (postprandial). Some experts put the postprandial levels at 180mg/dL, or even lower at 140mg/dL. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends non-pregnant adults with diabetes aim for a glucose level of 70-130mg/dL preprandial and under 180mg/dL postprandial.

The ADA does not specify normal glucose levels for pregnant women with diabetes. However, they advise these women to keep their blood sugar close to the same levels as for non-pregnant adults with diabetes throughout their pregnancy, to decrease the risks of birth defects in their babies.

As with many health care issues, the definition of what is considered normal can vary from person to person. Speak with your health care provider to determine what glucose levels are normal for you.

Health / Causes Of Diabetes by annybliss(f): 9:32pm On Aug 27, 2013
Diabetes is caused by genetics and lifestyle factors. If left untreated, diabetes will damage vital organs and may lead to blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, gastrointestinal problems, and debilitating nerve pain. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, where the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas have been destroyed. Type 2 diabetes is usually associated with sufficient or excess insulin but an inability of the body to use it.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), type 1 diabetes accounts for about 5 percent of diabetes cases, while the majority (about 95 percent) of cases represents type 2 diabetes. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are in part caused by hereditary factors. The non-genetic causes or triggers of type 1 diabetes are not well established, whereas the lifestyle causes of type 2 diabetes are well defined.

Obesity/Overweight

Excess weight is a major risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. The more fatty tissue you have, the greater your risk is of becoming insulin resistant. Insulin resistance leads to type 2 diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that helps the cells in your body take up glucose, which cells then use to generate energy. In insulin resistance, even high concentrations of insulin may fail to trigger glucose to enter cells.

You are most likely to develop type 2 diabetes if most of your fat is located in your abdominal region rather than around your hips and thighs. Not all obese individuals develop diabetes -- other risk factors also play a role.
Poor Diet

A high-fat diet is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. But any high-calorie diet, whether the calories come from fat, carbohydrates, or sugar, will increase your weight and risk of diabetes. It is not necessary to eat a strict "diabetic" diet; any healthy diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruit in low to moderate portions, may prevent or reverse the development of diabetes.
Inactivity

Lack of activity or exercise contributes to type 2 diabetes. Physical activity lowers blood sugar. Aerobic activities such as walking, biking, or swimming are helpful. Strength training will also lower your blood sugar. Try exercising for at least 30 minutes per day.
Genes

A family history of type 2 diabetes predisposes you to developing diabetes, but because obesity also runs in families, it is difficult to distinguish the genetic component from lifestyle and diet factors. However, studies on identical twins (people with the same basic DNA), demonstrate that genetics does play its own role independent of diet and exercise.

Ethnicity

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Asian Americans have an 18 percent greater risk than non-Hispanic whites of developing type 2 diabetes. People of Hispanic descent have a 66 percent greater risk, and non-Hispanic blacks have a 77 percent greater risk. It is not clear whether genes or lifestyle or both play a role in these differences.
Age

The risk for type 2 diabetes increases with age, especially after age 45. Weight gain, inactivity, and muscle loss are probably contributing factors. Type 2 diabetes used to be called "adult-onset" diabetes, but recently, type 2 diabetes among children and young adults has increased dramatically.
Health / Bitterleaf: Not To Be Ignored by annybliss(f): 7:53pm On Aug 26, 2013
Ever heard of Bitter leaf? As its name suggests, it is a plant whose main characteristic is it bitter stem and leaves. There also exists a species of the plant which produces a ‘sweet‘ leaf. Popular in most of West Africa and named after botanist, William Vernon, its botanical name is Vernonia, it belongs to the family of Asteraceae. Bitter leaf is also referred to as ironweed, a name coined from the intensely purple flowers which later take on a rusty hue. Bitter leaf is able to flourish in a variety of climates unlike other plants which are often native to certain areas. Although most popularly used for food, bitter leaf has also traditionally been used for its medicinal properties now proven by medical research. With around a thousand varieties, the bitter leaf plant’s uses range from antimicrobial to decorative. Some of the most common uses are noted below.

1. STOMACH ACHE: Chew the tender stem and swallowing the juices is a well known remedy for stomach aches. Alternatively pound the fresh leaves in a mortar to extract the juice. Add a pinch of salt to three tablespoons of the undiluted juice and drink. This version is reported to bring immediate relief.

2. SKIN INFECTIONS & OTHER AILMENTS: For skin infections such as ringworm, itching, rashes and eczema, the pure, undiluted extract of bitter leaf is excellent. Simply apply it to the affected part daily.

The roots are used by sufferers of gingivitis and toothache due to antimicrobial properties which prevent the growth of bacteria.

3. GOOD FOR THE LIVER : Weighing between 1 and 3 kilograms, the liver is essential for the metabolism of fats and protein and must therefore be well taken care of. Alcohol, sugar, and processed foods we often feed ourselves can weaken the liver and make it susceptible to infections. Damage to the liver is often difficult to reverse and bitter leaf has long been used as a toner for this and other vital organs of the organ of the body.

4. DIABETES: As with the liver, bitter leaf helps repair the pancreas as well as cut down sugar levels in the blood. Agitate and squeeze ten handfuls of the fresh leaves in ten litres of water and drink two glasses thrice daily for one month. This amounts to six glasses daily.

5. INSOMNIA: Bitter leaf extract has been known to work magic for many unable to get restful sleep. Simply take two glasses of bitter leaf solution every night to experience great calm and well being. You may add a little honey if you wish.

6. PNEUMONIA: Squeeze the fresh leaves of the plant in water. Take a glass-full thrice daily. Warm [DO NOT BOIL the solution each time before drinking. Continue the medication for a month. To save time a large quantity can be made in one go. Add some honey to preserve the solution.

NB: Bitter leaf extract stored for longer than twenty-four hours loses the bitterness but the efficacy remains.
