Mobile number portability, just as the name implies, is a service that allows you transfer your existing phone number from one mobile phone network provider to another mobile phone provider. In the sense that your mobile phone number isn’t tampered with despite changing to another mobile provider.Aside its merits it also has its challenges such as cost of portability and alsosms delivery.

From inception in April 2013, network operators were overwhelmed and users got to subscribe to the service. One of the merits of number portability is that, it saves the stress of you forwarding your new mobile numbers to friends,relatives or business associates while changing to another service provider. For example you can port to MTN while still maintaining your GLO number.

Researchhas disclosed that this particular [ported]numbers don’t receive bulk sms messages sent from the internet due to the fact that the network providers do not have an updated databases for these numbers. When you send messages the sms gateway might think the ported number is still a glo line when its no longer GLO but MTN and the network fails due to this,the messages end up getting lost. And most times you are billed for these messages by the bulk sms service provider.

The only possible alternative for you would be to separate your ported numbers (and even DND numbers) from the regular once and send your message or ask for a refund back from your bulk sms service.
In some countries,ported numbers are able to get bulk smsmessages send from the internet. We hope the NCC network providers and even sms gateways would come together soon and have an upgraded database that would make it possible in Nigeria as well.
