Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

How we foiled Jonathan’s effort to make Mulika Adeola Speaker, Akande reveals

AS president in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan did all he could to ensure South West grabbed the country’s number four seat, including lobbying then opposition leaders from the zone, to no avail. The North West eventually grabbed the seat, supported by South West leaders in opposition to then ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Governor of Osun State and now statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, made this revelation in his autobiography, “My Participations” which is currently dominating political and national dis- course.

Aminu Tambuwal, now Sokoto State governor, won the seat, against the preferred pick of his party, Mrs Mulikat Adeola Akande, from the South-West. Defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, then a fledging opposition, which had Akande and his soulmate, former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, as front- line leaders, openly asked its elected members of the House of Representatives, mostly from the South-West, to work against their region and back Tambuwal from North-West.

The opposition party’s support carried Tambuwal through the contest against Akande, then ruling party’s favourite for the speakership seat.

In his book, Chief Akande revealed that former president then as incumbent, personally reached out to Tinubu, who is now believed to be nursing presidential aspiration in 2023 and himself, but couldn’t convince them.

He wrote, “President Jonathan, immediately after the meeting (with political parties), called Bola Tinubu aside into a lobby to broach the matter of ACN support for a choice of who would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“That same day, President Jonathan talked to me on phone about the same matter. He disclosed that PDP had zoned the position to the South-West but that only one Muraina and another Mulika won elections on PDP ticket from the zone into the House of Representatives.

Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.

Compare like with like....

what are the resources available to Jakande during a time of true Federalism and what are the resources available to Tinubu during OBJ's PDP. Amongst the 36 governors of his time 1999 to 2007, who did better? You will recall, OBJ and PDP used $16 billion to buy power equipment in 2005, today where is the power.....

In addition, OBJ held the states allocation for 4 years! I know horrible MMIA road was, he offered to rebuild it PDP FG refused until Buhari came and gave Ambode the approval to do the road.
Obasanjo did not seize Lagos state's allocation for 4 years. He only seized the LGA portion due to Tinubu and his AG Osinbajo's attempt to smuggle additional local government areas into the 1999 constitution, which other states reversed.

What has Tinubu done with the 100 times increase in revenue to N4.2 trillion since 1999 if Lagos has less than 5% schools owned by government and people are drinking shitty water huh

Meanwhile there is no evidence to substantiate the allegation of $16 billion spent by Obasanjo on power. If there was, he would have been probed, prosecuted and convicted by subsequent administrations, especially corruption fighting APC since 2015.

Would you know how much APC has spent for the past 11 years to procure darkness, since they are borrowing more than PDP despite removing subsidy, thereby making petrol expensive, to save trillions of Naira and billions of dollars respectively in 2016 and 2023?

Nigeria: Again, FG Seizes Lagos Councils Funds

22 September 2005

Abuja — The suspended dispute between Federal and Lagos State governments over the release of revenue from the federation account to local government councils may have resumed. President Olusegun Obasanjo was said to have ordered that the last tranche of the earlier seized fund totalling N14 billion due to Lagos State be witheld.

Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Femi Pedro, who made this known when speaking with newsmen, said President Obasanjo had yesterday told him that the third tranch of the seized funds would not be paid by the Federal Government until elections are held in 20 constitutionally recognised local government councils in Lagos State.

Obasanjo had since last year ordered the seizure of LG funds belonging to the state on the basis that the state government conducted elections into 57 newly created councils which were yet to be ratified by the National Assembly. The Supreme Court to which the dispute was referred for adjudication ruled that the Federal Government has no power to seize funds belonging to other tiers of government.

The apex court however declared the newly created councils in Lagos State as legal and validly created but "inchoate."

Obasanjo later agreed to pay the money in three tranches after a team of mediators led by Prince Bola Ajibola, former Attorney General of the Federation, intervened and got Tinubu to revert the 57 local government structure to the 20 recognised by the constitution. N20 billion had been paid in three tranches leaving N14 billion.

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

He needs to focus his messaging on a return to the golden era of his joint administration with Obasanjo in PDP, when they laid a foundation for prosperity with deregulation and privatisation policies. Prosperity with low debt, low unemployment, low insecurity, cheap petrol, better life etc.

Who no like better thing huh

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

Actually its a conspicuous and pitiable sight

We don't know what we are doing to our democracy until we no longer have a say in selecting our leaders

Unless INEC has moved out of that building, we are sliding into dictatorship
Jagaban of Borgu's plan is clearly not limited to reelection next year.

It extends to a 3rd term agenda for life president dictatorship, enabled by INEC's Amupitan and Wike's compromised courts.

How do ordinary Nigerian patriots work together for a united opposition that can STOP this from happening, as we did in 2007 huh

Wike Boasts Of Helping APC Use Judiciary To Kill Osun LG Funds Case, Warns Party Leaders Against Ingratitude

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly boasted that he assisted certain elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in deploying the judiciary to frustrate the Osun State local government allocation lawsuit.

In a video now circulating widely on social media and obtained by SaharaReporters, Wike made the claim while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor accused the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of benefitting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without knowing those who did the work behind the scenes.

The suit in question led to the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a development widely seen as targeting the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as opposition in the state.

Wike, who spoke angrily, suggested that the court action supporting the APC’s position against the Osun government did not happen by chance, boasting that powerful political forces worked quietly to ensure the outcome.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted,” Wike warned, in an apparent message to APC leaders defending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “You have to be careful about the statements you make. You have to be very careful.”

He accused Basiru of political ingratitude, claiming the APC was enjoying in Osun State without understanding who engineered their advantage.

“Today, you are enjoying in Osun. You don’t know those who did the work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State.”

Is it all over the world that presidents owe salaries, owe pensions, owe contractors, fails to fund capital budget to ministries, rolls over budgets from year to year. Meanwhile he has money to buy new jets, junket the world for medical tourism etc and bribe politicians to decamp to Oshiomole's Assembly of Past Criminals, APC for his 2027 reelection and 3rd term agenda life president dictatorship.

The dynamics have changed. If you think that most states in Southern Nigeria will vote for an Atiku/Obi presidency after Buhari wasted 8 years in power, think again.

The South, where most of the resources used to run this country come from, doesn't live to serve northerners.

We know that a Nigerian Vice President is useless. Southern Nigeria deserves 8 years in power and I assure you that the ticket will find it difficult to beat Tinubu now.
Why did south not deserve 8 years when Tinubu recycled his 2011 expired Buhari as APC change messiah four years later to end 16 years of PDP prosperity built on deregulation and privatisation policies?

Moreover, the south would have 17 years against the north's 11 years by 2027 since our return to democracy in 1999.

What should be important for any patriotic Nigerian is a return to PDP prosperity with low debt burden, low unemployment, low insecurity etc. Who were the key players that laid the foundation for this golden era of Nigeria?
