BeginsAtHome: I'm not a Tinubu fanboy but my problem with most of us is the fact that we're being economical with the truth.
Tinubu is not the only governor since 1999 set and I take a wild guess that he wasn't at any point your governor as well.
If we all move at the pace (whoever slow) Lagos is moving in terms of grassroot governance and development, we would have since left the woodworks.
That we're still talking about Tinubu's governance of Lagos in 2026 leaves a big question about governance in general in this country.
What about Ibrahim Shekerau? Donald Duke? James Ibori? Orji Uzor Kalu? Achike Udenwa? Bukola Saraki? Peter Obi? Yerima of Zamfara?
If they had all been innovative (mind you, it wasn't about finance, it was mainly about innovativeness for Tinubu's Lagos), we for don get small headway.
See that building, Zenith financed it 70% with commitments of tax relief and other benefits.
This way, private sector participation is encouraged which drive down corruption drastically.
Let's tell ourselves whatever makes us sleep well at night but the truth remains the truth.
I am an original Lagosian and not an ayédèrú atọhunrinwa like Tinubu who has a mother with a different surname.
Tinubu and his successors are following his lootocracy TAX monster plan till now.
I don’t benchmark with other governors since 1999. I benchmark with the progressive governance achievements in the provision of services and utilities of Jakande in just four years, without squeezing IGR out of the public and without borrowing money like Tinubu is doing.
I will advise you to do likewise for your own state.
Realdeals: Jakande @ 90: 9 Achievements of Alhaji Lateef Jakande as Lagos Governor
1. The first governor to present a billion Naira state budget in Nigeria.
2. He phased out the shift system in Lagos schools in three months. He built functional classrooms to absorb those who only attend schools for three hours a day.
3. He opened up what is now known as the Lekki Corridor.
4. He built the biggest Housing estate by a state government at Abesan, along with five other estates.
5. He built LASU, LACOED, LASPOTECH and Technical schools to absorb the products of the free education policy.
6 He built General Hospitals and Health centers in all the five divisions of Lagos. He also upgraded General Hospital Ikeja to the Medical arm of LASU.
7. He created the Agric hub at Oko Oba. He also created similar hubs in Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry.
8. His government’s strict adherence to the party manifesto of Free Education, Free Health care, Rural integration and Housing for all, along with other UPN governors, created the largest pool of human resources in Nigeria.
9. He moved the Lagos State Government Secretariat from PWD to Alausa, which he built from scratch. He also lived in his personal house and drove his personal car throughout his tenure.
Even during festive season, some once bubbling parts were as quiet as a grave in the night.
Na then I know say APC don finish Nigeria .
Lagos is over over over hyped.
Maybe the people are all in Bourdillon doing babialah for the bullionaire to bless them with a few Naira in the absence of jobs.
anonimi: The eyesore on Bourdillon Road 2nd January 2025
Beyond his neighbours, there is something about the sight of people hanging around a president’s residence that does not speak well of his leadership capabilities. Maybe no one has nudged him to see it, but the impression that spectacle on Bourdillon Road generates is that Tinubu enjoys the sight of suffering humans and thrives in—and through— their poverty.
If all these years, impoverished people hang around you and you remain comfortable enough to keep them just so they can be handed tokens of your large heart, then it means you have a pro-poverty mindset. Such a frame of mind is oriented toward cultivating poverty rather than stimulating abundance.
That is why he could unproblematically relate the story of his “friend” who went from using five Rolls Royce to a far-less valued car and not consider the import of the nonsense he was saying. That spurious account was an indication that this is a man for whom poverty—of others, not himself—is an ideal.
BeginsAtHome: Lagos however imperfect is the model for state and grassroot development in Nigeria.
And what is Nigeria in terms of development?
The capital of extreme poverty and out of school children?
Are most of the children in public schools, or they are in private schools because governors like Tinubu steal money for employing teachers and other staff to make education free for all children
anonimi: Ratio of public to private schools in Lagos State is one to 22 ― Commissioner September 4, 2022
The Lagos State government has said the ratio of public to private schools at both primary and secondary school levels in the state is one to 22.

Otti should come and learn work, media hype is not a government project
How many of the PHCs use detty, smelly water because Tinubu has been stealing most of the trillions budget that should employ technicians, engineers, administrators, billing staff etc to make pipe borne water available to all buildings
edogu: I'm not from Ogun but from the information that I've gathered, the current administration remains the worst that have governed the state in the past.
Ogun is supposed to be competing with Lagos owing proximity or even beat Lagos in every ramifications. Nigeria and poor leadership na 5 & 6.
Is Ogun state not competing already with Lagos for the waterless trophy of detty, smelly cities
timbabng: I updated my response with the information below. I believe this is NOT about OGD vs Onabanjo. So let's focus on what you like or dislike about OGD.
How much improvement occured in relevant ratios on education to show that he focused on education?
Number of public schools to private schools ratio. Enrolment in public schools to private schools ratio. Teacher to students ratio in public schools. Library seat to students ratio
ogaontop: Good way to go, we are lagging behind in financial literacy!
This is a country where people leave huge money in the bank just like that; money that will yield better interests when invested in financial instruments!!
How can we have financial literacy when we have the most children out of school, and the ones lucky enough to be in school are mostly in private establishments that are poorly moonitored and barely supervised?
What should be our priority

If it materialises like the promise of crashing petrol price that has materialised
Deltafirstson: Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.
In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.
Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.
Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.
At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.
However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.
Why not provide details of how he was a sound and visionary leader that impacted Ogun people much more than Onabanjo did in the provision of services and utilities
bestofnollywood: But as we celebrate Ogun State at 50, I must say this: Mr. Aura is the Ogun State I know and appreciate. A state that invested in a young boy. A state that made him believe. A state that quietly shaped his future. If I can do for even one child what Ogun State did for me, then I would have paid it forward properly.
This is the reason behind the ADÉWÁLÉ Student Conference and Scholarship program.
How do we know from all this dogo turenchi if Daniel did better than Tinubu in the education of all children in his eight years as governor?
Did Daniel employ as many as the 19,500 teachers that Makinde employed in five years?
Did Daniel achieve more than 5% schools owned by government? Or was it less than 5% as Lagos progreThieves have done in 27 years of lootocracy
onuman: Atiku Abubakar working for his APC to win every presidential election since 2019.
Was that the year he rescued Obi from the IDP camp that Obiano consigned him after crushing his godfather ambitions in APGA Anambra
newsbook: Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has re-echoed his allegation that his predecessor, Mr Peter Obi demanded the sum of N7.5billion from him for sponsoring his election in 2013.
Obiano and his predecessor, Obi have had a frosty relationship shortly after his swearing in.
Obi has however denied that he demanded for the sum of N7.5billion from Obiano, saying that his problem with him was his (Obiano’s) underperformance.
Obi said if he needed the said sum, he would have simply taken it from the N75billion he left for the Obiano administration at the end of his tenure.
But Governor Obiano while speaking on Wednesday evening at Ezechima Primary School, Onitsha where he inaugurated his reelection campaigns in Onitsha North Council Area, said the clarification became necessary because of the recent accusations against him by the former Governor.
He stated that his predecessor had demanded the sum of N7.5billion from him as funds spent in prosecuting the election on his behalf, but that he refused to pay the money because it was not true.
Obiano said he refused to pay because he strongly believed that public funds should be used for public good, and not to settle godfathers.
These, he said, was the reason they fell apart.
The governor said that another reason he refused to pay the money was because he was aware that enough money was raised for his campaign by his friends and associates, all of which were never accounted for by the former governor.
On the actual sum the former Governor claimed he left behind, Governor Obiano made it clear that he inherited liability of about N127 billion debt from him in contracts awarded and other responsibilities, which he has been religiously undertaking in the spirit of continuity.
He said Obi flagged off several roads even on the day he was leaving office and saddled him with the burden of paying for it, but he assured the people that he has his eyes on the ball and will not allow anything to distract him from fulfilling his promises.
The Chairman of the Governor’s Re-election Campaign Committee, Chief Victor Umeh said APGA as the political spirit of Ndigbo, has in the past three and half years, availed Anambra good governance at its best, reminding the people that the upcoming guber election was not about Willie Obiano but about ensuring that the state remained free from political godfatherism.
A former Central Bank Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in his speech said that at this time, the State needs a tested hand like Governor Obiano who has the experience and expertise to effectively steer her affairs.

amoreobansu: Fatima Atiku Abubakar, first daughter of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
The former Commissioner of Health, Adamawa State was received into the party in Abuja on Monday.
The medical professional turned politician registered and received her party membership card at her ward in the Wuse area of the nation’s capital.
The FCT Chairman of ADC, Chief Clement Oba Ehigiator, AMAC chairman of the party and other stakeholders were present at the event.
She expressed excitement to join the party housing the coalition of opposition leaders plotting President Bola Tinubu’s removal in 2027.
chisomkachy: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.
Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.
The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.
The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.
Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.
The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.
But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.
During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).
The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.
Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.
Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:
“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.
“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”
Lifestone: You may hate or like him, PBAT is the biggest reforms minded government after President Obasanjo
Do you mean Atiku, the businessman who helped Obasanjo the farmer to deregulate and privatise the economy for astronomical economic growth and widespread prosperity
anonimi: ‘How Atiku saved Obasanjo from near bankruptcy before he emerged president’‘
A new book has revealed how former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, saved ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo from near bankruptcy before he emerged president in 1999.
According to the new book, entitled ‘’Too Good to Die: Third Term and the Myth of the Indispensable Man in Africa,’ Atiku made all his resources available for Obasanjo’s presidential campaign.
The book, written by former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, and Ayisha Osori, author of ‘’Love Does Not Win Elections,” also revealed how Obasanjo beat late Alex Ekwueme to the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 1999 election.
Quoting an account from Atiku, the authors said the trio of Ibrahim Babangida, Theophilus Danjuma and Abdulsalami Abubakar wanted PDP to adopt Obasanjo as their presidential candidate “because they considered him the best person for the job.”
“Implicit in their position was their belief that they knew how to manipulate Obasanjo and the fact that Obasanjo did their bidding in 1979. They felt secure that he could be managed again,” the authors wrote.
Atiku was reportedly asked to join a team to Ogun to inform Obasanjo that he was going to run for the highest office in the land.
“When Atiku and Obasanjo discussed the call to serve as president, Obasanjo said he could not be president because he was a nearly bankrupt ex-convict. Atiku, through General (Aliyu) Gusau, paid money into Obasanjo’s account to begin his financial rehabilitation.
“Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar helped out by granting him an unconditional pardon. Atiku put everything he had at his disposal to support Obasanjo’s emergence as the PDP presidential candidate and, when he joined the ticket as the vice-presidential nominee, continued to make his assets available to Obasanjo and the campaign.
Lifestone: You obviously lack understanding of basic economics. Borrowing is not the problem, the problem is what you are borrowing to do.
When you borrow to finance infrastructures especially those assets that can generate revenue for self servicing, then it's proper (tolled Road as an example), so I support completely borrowing money to do the Coastal Road to be tolled, Lagos Ibadan expressway should be tolled, markudi to Enugu should be tolled, Ibadan to Kaduna, A1 should be tolled. Those tolled Road will maintain themselves and free resources to fix our basic areas of about failing like Education, Primary Healthcare etc.
So get educated
How much did Jakande borrow to provide infrastructure as well employ well paid civil servants back then, to ensure children were educated free in schools and water flowed in houses, even though he did not squeeze IGR out of hardworking Lagosians in his four years of progressive governance?
Do you know why Tinubu is claiming to be a progressive like Jakande and Awolowo when he is nothing but a balablu progreThief rogue
Babasessy: The Awolowo rebirth in the Southwest has inspired gongs, songs and rhetoric of sorts. But they have missed one point.
It occurred to me in Abeokuta last week amidst the big crowds and euphoria of the swearing-in of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as governor. In all the states from Lagos to Edo, where Awo has witnessed ideological resurgence, hardly a single family member has played a role.
So we have an Awo family without an Awo. That is an irony. But history overwhelms us with this sort of twist. Obafemi Awolowo toiled for his reputation. His roots were lowly, he toiled to school both home and abroad, launched into careers in law, business, journalism and eventually politics. He carved a niche for himself, and became the first methodical and charismatic leftist in our history. Other leftists abounded but they did not inspire comparable drama and following.
He faced tribulations, went to jail, failed in elections, won a few, but he imprinted his ideas and legacy in the country, and no single mortal has beaten him in the history of this country. His greatest achievement was in the area of ideas, and that was how he fashioned a family. Most families are born of biology but his issued from ideology. That family suffered with him.
In a spoof of Jesus Christ, these were the men who followed him in his teachings, and endured with him in his temptations. So he formed a kingdom for them in the Southwest, in the old Western Region, presiding over his projects, his legacies and people.
In all of these, the family he had was not his flesh and blood. In another spoof of Christ, who were his family anyway? Those who were with him must be counted as his family. So, I combed in the ambience of Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and I found none. I went to Ogun, I frisked the crowd under Amosun’s bower, hardly any. Around Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun, I could not lay a finger. With Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti, where are the forbears of Awo? Yet, I can hear the chants of Awo. Hardly in any of the inaugural speeches or any of their other public intervention would you miss the philtre and filter of Awo from these gentlemen. To parody Novelist Joseph Conrad, they are the sparks from Awo’s sacred fire, the messengers of the might within the man.
Already all of them are pursuing the legacy ideas of Awo: free education, free health services, infrastructural development, urban renewal and economic engineering.
Lagos has posted itself as the John the Baptist. The others are putting up valiant efforts, and the world of course is watching to see how well they will perform. It will call for great work, resourcefulness and cooperation. They are the real Awoists, and Awo was a man of rigour and vigour.
The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off. But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.
I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.
njokuuche77: It has never being this bad, honestly.
Is this why you are committed to work with others to return our country to the foundational PDP politicians who gave us 16 years of prosperity, driven by deregulation and privatisation principles?
Widespread prosperity and high productivity with low unemployment rates and low insecurity are what Tinubu made us swap for APC extreme poverty shege that he fraudulently presented as positive change 11 years ago.
thisweekng: The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.
He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.
He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.
“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.
“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.” Private sector to drive the economy

This means that nearly two-thirds of petrol consumed by Nigerians in 2025 was sourced from imports, while domestic refineries contributed about 7.54 billion litres, representing 37.53 per cent of total consumption, the regulator stated.

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.
“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Nigeria’s public debt hits ₦152.4trn in Q2 2025 — DMO October 11, 2025
NIGERIA’S total public debt stock has climbed to ₦152.40 trillion as of June 30, 2025.
This is according to new data released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) on Friday.
The figure represents an increase of ₦3.01 trillion or 2.01 per cent from ₦149.39 trillion recorded at the end of March 2025. In dollar terms, the total debt rose from $97.24 billion to $99.66 billion, reflecting a 2.49 per cent increase within three months.
The latest figures underscore the Federal Government’s growing dependence on both domestic and external borrowing to finance fiscal shortfalls, even as ongoing revenue reforms and foreign exchange liberalisation continue to reshape Nigeria’s economic outlook.
SmartPolician: It's not like I owe you a reply, but I need to make it clear that Peter Obi just needs a robust platform where he can contest and win the presidential election because running under another mushroom party will give Tinubu an automatic victory.
If Obi becomes president, he's not like your regular politicians who don't relate with ordinary people - he's a man that Nigerians can hold accountable. That's one of the reasons he's different.
Are you talking about this same Pandora guy, whose political naivete got him kicked out of APGA by Obiano in 2014 after his failed attempt at being a godfather? Thankfully Atiku rescued him five years later from his IDP oblivion camp before he betrayed not just PDP but also 200 million Nigerians in 2023 by helping Tinubu to get 100% SE votes indirectly.
He is different indeed.
aduboy: Anambra distributes 177 vehicles to traditional rulers Posted by NAN Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, on Monday in Awka, distributed one SUV each to the traditional rulers of the 177 communities in the state.
Obi handed over one of the vehicles’ key to the state Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha.
He said that the gesture was aimed at helping them run and build better communities, adding that the vehicles would also help the traditional rulers to function effectively.
“If you have better communities, you will have a better Anambra, Anambra today is changing for better and I want this sustained,” the governor said.
“In doing that, the state government and the local government will do what it can to support the building of a better Anambra.”
Achebe said that he was overjoyed because the governor cared about the well-being and welfare of the traditional rulers.
“It is completely unprecedented in Anambra and probably elsewhere in Nigeria,” he said.
“It is a mighty gesture from the governor and for the government of the state to make a distinct impact on the well-being of the traditional rulers in the state.”
According to him, it was one of the several measures the present administration in the state had taken to improve the wellbeing of the traditional rulers.
“We pray that God will give us a successor that will continue from where Obi has left and lift Anambra to the next level.”
NLCreator: Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.
There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.
Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.
The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.
While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.
“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.
“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.
“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”
Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

What is going on is a detraction from the worst looting by Tinubu and his Lagos boys, using the same format that has helped him keep a stranglehold on 20 million otherwise smart Lagosians for 27 years of his lootocracy TAX monster plan.
The plan that has raised revenue and budget 100 times without commensurate increase in government services and public utilities.
Why should Buhari not have jailed Tinubu, like he did for Jakande, instead of handing over to him in 2023?
Do you know why
Splashme: The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.
Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.
The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.
Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”
The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.
Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.
He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

WHO SAYS 4 YEARS IN OFFICE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS?
IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.
dequir: The Facts President Tinubu’s Critics Won’t Discuss
From the very first day President Tinubu took office, certain groups decided that nothing good could ever come out of his government. Political rivalry, primordial sentiments, deep-seated bitterness, and envy shaped their judgment from the start. There was no patience. No balance. No fairness. Just noise, anger, and daily abuse. For these professional haters of President Tinubu, Nigeria began on May 29. Everything before that date was conveniently erased, and every broken system suddenly became his personal creation.
That is the dishonest game being played, and sadly, many people are buying into it. What they deliberately refuse to mention is the Nigeria we all lived in before now. A Nigeria where suffering was systemic. A country where failure was normalized and recycled as policy, and where citizens succumbed to endure instead of demand.
If you are 50 years old or younger, you know this truth. Fuel scarcity was routine. Fuel queues were part of your childhood and adulthood. People slept at filling stations like displaced persons in their own country. Cars became bedrooms. Productive hours were wasted chasing petrol. When fuel eventually came, it was either hoarded or sold at black market prices that insulted common sense. This went on for decades, yet today, this same set of haters acts as if it never existed.
They will not tell you how fuel importation became a cartel business. How an oil-producing country had no functional refineries (public or private), yet spent billions importing fuel. They will not tell you how subsidy became a criminal enterprise that fed a few while bleeding the nation dry. They will not tell you how scarcity was engineered and recycled because some people made fortunes from it. Instead, they shout “hardship” today, as if hardship is new to Nigerians.
They will also not tell you about education. Endless ASUU strikes were our normal. A five-year course became seven or eight years, not because students failed, but because the system kept collapsing. Lives were paused. Dreams were delayed. Many never returned to complete their university education. Before NELFUND, students dropped out quietly because they could not afford school. Nobody protested for them. Nobody cared. It was just another Nigerian tragedy we accepted and moved on from.
Now, those who were silent then suddenly remember students, but only as a weapon against the current government. They refuse to admit that, for the first time in years, there is a structured attempt to address student funding at scale. Is it perfect? No. But pretending nothing has changed is either ignorance or deliberate dishonesty.
Then there is the economy, which they discuss with selective memory. Naira crunch, forex scarcity, and wild exchange-rate fluctuations did not start under Tinubu. Businesses planned blindly for years. Importers woke up to new rates every morning. Governors cornered subsidised dollars and flipped them for profit. Ordinary Nigerians paid the price. This broken system was managed and defended by the same people who were in government then and are now in opposition shouting the loudest, yet they speak as if the rot began yesterday.
They also refuse to mention the era of the Aso Rock cabal. A small, unelected group that decided national policies behind closed doors—printing currency at will, borrowing to stabilize exchange rate, and manipulating the foreign exchange system. Presidents became symbols while faceless men ran the country. Nigerians complained. Analysts warned. Insiders leaked. Nothing changed. Accountability vanished into private rooms. Today, those who benefited from that arrangement now parade themselves as champions of democracy.
At the state level, the story was even worse. Governors borrowed recklessly, not to build industries or infrastructure, but simply to pay salaries, and even then, many paid half salaries. The national Secretary of the leading opposition party governed his state when the minimum wage was ₦18,000 and was paying half salary. Later, ₦30,000 or ₦35,000 looked good on paper, but several states could not pay it. Workers survived on hope and side hustles. Failure was normalized. The nation laughed because crying had become exhausting. Imagine the level of insult Nigerians endured, and imagine people now pretending that era was better than today.
Let us talk about debt, because this is where hypocrisy becomes loud. Nigeria was using almost all its internally generated revenue to service debt. Over 90 percent of our crude oil was stolen. We sold future oil to pay today’s bills. Tomorrow was sacrificed so that today could look calm. That was the economic model—push the problem forward and let the next generation suffer. The opposition knows this truth very well, which is why they avoid discussing it completely.
Even basic government services were traumatic. Getting an international passport took months or years unless you “knew someone.” Files disappeared. Applicants aged while waiting. Travel plans died quietly. This inefficiency was defended as normal bureaucracy. Today, improvements are happening gradually, but the haters will not mention it. Silence is safer than honesty.
Another truth they refuse to acknowledge is the quiet but steady progress on insecurity. When banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency overwhelmed the nation, every shout was “Tinubu.” Every attack was amplified, even by those who were architects of the country's insecurity problem. Every failure was placed at Tinubu’s feet, as if he personally carried the guns. No one asked how deep and long-standing the security rot was. Now that insurgency is being curtailed gradually, highways are becoming safer, communities are returning home, and coordinated security operations are yielding results, there is sudden silence. No applause. Even those who understand security dynamics refuse to give credit. Instead, they quickly shift focus to another problem, because once you name a dog a bad name, it becomes easier to hang it.
The same dishonesty plays out with the economy. Petrol and food prices became painfully high, and the outrage was loud and nonstop. But now that prices of foodstuffs are gradually coming down, supply is improving, and markets are adjusting, nobody wants to talk about it. A rubber of garri that sold for ₦1,500 now sells for about ₦250. Beans that sold for ₦4,000 now sell for about ₦900. Rice that sold for ₦4,000 now sells for about ₦2,000. Good news does not trend for those committed to outrage.
Acknowledging progress would weaken their narrative, so they pretend it is not happening. What we are witnessing is not healthy opposition; it is a campaign of calumny. The goal is not to offer solutions but to poison public perception. Pain is amplified without context. Hardship is weaponized without history. Tinubu is blamed without mentioning what he met on ground.
Reform is painful, yes, but decay was also painful, just slower and more familiar. Nobody is saying this government is perfect. No serious person should. But pretending Nigeria was a paradise before now is an insult to our collective memory. You cannot fix decades of damage without discomfort. You cannot dismantle entrenched interests without resistance. Those screaming the loudest today are often the same people who benefited from the old broken order.
The opposition refuses to tell Nigerians what exactly they would have done differently. They offer vague promises without details. They do not explain how they would remove subsidy without pain or keep it without bankruptcy. They do not explain how they would manage forex, fund education, stabilize the economy, pay workers, service debt, manage insecurity across geopolitical zones, and still attract investors. They just shout.
Nigerians deserve better than noise. We deserve honesty. We deserve issue-based campaigns that respect our intelligence. We deserve a clear account of where we were before now, where we are now, what has changed, and what has not. We deserve to hear what you will do better and exactly how you will do it. That is the minimum respect the electorate deserves. Anything less is not opposition; it is deception.
Why is Tinubu borrowing more money than PDP presidents and even Buhari despite removing subsidy to make petrol expensive and life unbearable for Nigerians?
Do you know?
Abi you are only concerned with how Oshiomole's Assembly of Past Criminals, APC will favour you and you only
TimeManager: The Federal Government has revealed that the elimination of the petrol subsidy under President Bola Tinubu has resulted in savings of over $84 billion, which are now being channelled into the construction and rehabilitation of 40 key road projects across the country over the past two years.
This was disclosed in a policy brief released by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), titled “Two Years Later: Key Benefits of Subsidy Removal,” and made available to journalists over the weekend in Abuja.
The report, which reviewed the outcomes of the subsidy removal since May 29, 2023, noted that the policy averted a looming economic crisis.
It also enabled the Tinubu administration to clear long-standing financial liabilities, increase capital investments, and support the financial stability of state governments.
Lifestone: I'm not a member or an advocate of APC, but I'm 💯 in support of the reforms of the current administration, Nigeria as a country has no options than to find its way back to recovery.
I'm bearing the pain also, but it could have been worse. Look at the wasteful fuel subsidy!
Why is A-looter Propaganda Conmen, APC presidents borrowing more money than PDP presidents despite removing subsidy TWICE in the last 11 years? What happened to the trillions of Naira and billions of dollars saved from subsidy removal in 2016 AND in 2023?
Do you know any other reason, apart from worsening corruption under the pretentious leaders looters
gabydaniels: Aug 25, 2016 The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has disclosed that the federal government has so far saved the sum of N1.4 trillion for not paying oil subsidy.
He also assured Nigerians that very soon, the foreign exchange market would stabilise going by some radical policies already introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The vice president who spoke in Kano yesterday during the third day of the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development meeting, urged Nigerians to restore confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, insisting that soonest, the current economic problems would become a thing of the past.
“With the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, there has been a significant increase in the availability of petrol throughout the country for the savings of N1.4 trillion on subsidy payments alone,” he said.
“Also, a more flexible exchange rate regime, we will have to decrease the pressure on the external reserve. In the short run of course, there should be consequences for inflation. We expect that with greater priority we have seen in the implementation of the policy by the CBN, the foreign exchange market will stabilise and confidence will be restored.
Lifestone: Good news about Nigeria is so painful to you guys.
Las las we all dey this country
Was that not how good news was painful to All Promises Cancelled, APC leaders looters in their packaging of Tinubu's 2011 expired Buhari as change messiah four years later
How much per litre are Nigerians forced to pay as subsidy to this APC government for the massive corruption in the oil sector? Any idea? What is your guess?
anonimi: Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC
January 19, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.
On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.
But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.
It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.
