Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.

There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.

Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.

The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.

While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.

Anambra distributes 177 vehicles to traditional rulers

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, on Monday in Awka, distributed one SUV each to the traditional rulers of the 177 communities in the state.

Obi handed over one of the vehicles’ key to the state Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha.

He said that the gesture was aimed at helping them run and build better communities, adding that the vehicles would also help the traditional rulers to function effectively.

“If you have better communities, you will have a better Anambra, Anambra today is changing for better and I want this sustained,” the governor said.

“In doing that, the state government and the local government will do what it can to support the building of a better Anambra.”

Achebe said that he was overjoyed because the governor cared about the well-being and welfare of the traditional rulers.

“It is completely unprecedented in Anambra and probably elsewhere in Nigeria,” he said.

“It is a mighty gesture from the governor and for the government of the state to make a distinct impact on the well-being of the traditional rulers in the state.”

Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Nice one from Enugu Gov't
How is this a nice one IF the state government does not have enough well paid teachers for the free education of all children and enough well paid workers to make pipe borne water supply available to all buildings?

The federal government is not responsible for water supply in cities and towns. This is the responsibility of states.

InvertedHammer:
/
It is by far better than Enugu.

500 gallons of water go for N20k. Multiply by 4 in a month, that's N80k. By extrapolation, that's N960k in a year on water alone. Why? Because the governor believes that clean and accessible water is the least of his worries. Yet they prance around like Enugu is Abuja even though the red muddy soil will have residents looking like they went tomb-raiding at night.

But then, considering where it was before Peter Mba, one can understand the accolades being that he moved the town from 16th Century to 17th Century but not anywhere near 20th Century. 21st Century is a stretch. EEDC? The worst of all.

However, when PREMIUM TIMES late in 2022 toured the three senatorial districts of the state, our reporter found facilities in many public schools still in deplorable conditions.

TokoEkambi:
Tinubu will never allow obi to be dropped. On a head to head contest, Atiku has a chance to defeat Tinubu.

With obi in the race, that chance goes up in deep, billowing smoke. Tinubu knows that obi's side has no strategy, but vibes and emotions, and it is very easy for them to be manipulated. He also knows that due to their deep-seated haite for Yorubas, they will never vote for him. So, it's better for their irrelevant tribesman to be there to spoil Atiku's chances.
I am surprised that a political guru like Aminda fails to understand this, and work tirelessly to factually destroy Obi’s credibility until he gets out of the race, which is how they play politics in the places where we pray and fast to have their japa visas.

It’s quite easy to demonstrate how Obi is not different from Tinubu on governance issues that have ruined Nigeria and brought so much misery with hardship on our people.

Imagine Obi saying that he won’t restore subsidy, which Tinubu ANNOUNCED the removal but continues to pay illegally under a new name, to importers of fuel from their Malta blending plants, as Bola keeps up his labour in vain attempts to destroy the PDP licensed private refinery of Dangote. The worst part is how sadistic Tinubu is making us buy expensive petrol despite paying more subsidy than previous presidents. Only God knows how much he is stealing from us on each litre of fuel. shocked

This is despite the government’s announcement of subsidy removal in 2023.

The company explained that the amount, which it termed ‘energy security expense’ arises when there is differential between the exchange rate used to freeze the premium motor spirit ex-coastal price and the prevailing rate at the point of import settlement.

According to the report, government had instructed that NNPC Limited cannot sell its PMS above a certain regulated price. It added that the cost of petrol import is usually much higher that the regulated price.

If all these years, impoverished people hang around you and you remain comfortable enough to keep them just so they can be handed tokens of your large heart, then it means you have a pro-poverty mindset. Such a frame of mind is oriented toward cultivating poverty rather than stimulating abundance.

That is why he could unproblematically relate the story of his “friend” who went from using five Rolls Royce to a far-less valued car and not consider the import of the nonsense he was saying. Nigeria remains fourth largest economy in Africa despite rebasing

July 21, 2025

Nigeria has retained its status as the fourth largest economy in Africa despite a rebasing exercise that expanded the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that the economy expanded to N372.8 trillion ($243 billion) in 2024, down from N314.02 trillion in the prior year as more sectors in the informal economy were considered in its calculations.

The statistics bureau adopted 2019 as its base year away from 2010 that’s previously reported.

The rebasing exercise covers the period from 2019 to 2023 and reflects changes in the economy’s structure, sectoral contributions, and data sources.

Despite the overhaul, Nigeria fails to reclaim its erstwhile status as the largest economy in Africa.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), South Africa remains the continent’s biggest economy with a GDP of $410.34 billion for a country with little over a quarter of Nigeria’s population.

Following the Southern African nation is Egypt with a GDP of $347 billion while Algeria maintains its third position having $268.9 billion as the size of its economy.

Although Nigeria’s economy grew 30 percent above the projected $188 billion estimate by the IMF this year, the rebasing was poised to place the economy as the biggest in Africa.

Nigeria loses 47% of dollar millionaires, retains 4th position in Africa

Nigeria has lost nearly half of its dollar millionaires over the past decade, with the population of high-net-worth individuals falling by 47 per cent between 2015 and 2025, according to the 2025 Africa Wealth Report by Henley & Partners in collaboration with New World Wealth.

Despite the sharp erosion in private wealth, Nigeria retained its position as Africa’s fourth-largest hub for dollar millionaires, with 7,200 millionaires, 20 centi-millionaires (individuals with investable wealth of at least $100 million) and three billionaires, trailing only South Africa, Egypt and Morocco.

The report showed that South Africa remained the continent’s wealthiest country by number of dollar millionaires, with 41,100 millionaires, 112 centi-millionaires and eight billionaires. Egypt followed with 14,800 millionaires, 49 centi-millionaires and seven billionaires.

Some Obedients don't even know who to support between Obi and Atiku. They are currently confused. If truly they want a leader who is unblemished, not a liar and corruption free, why can't they support and vote enmasse for Sowore? Sowore has fought the military, Sowore has been the voice of the common man, Sowore has led struggle, why can't the people mobilise for him and reject Obi, Atiku and Tinubu?
Why must Sowore be president to make his voice heard for the voiceless?

Was MLK ever president or Mahatma Gandhi huh

The forever president of his inconsequential party is just a dictator in waiting who will do worse than the politicians he wails against, if ever he is given power.

Oshiomole is a very good example.

Is this an old video?

‘How Atiku saved Obasanjo from near bankruptcy before he emerged president’‘

A new book has revealed how former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, saved ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo from near bankruptcy before he emerged president in 1999.

According to the new book, entitled ‘’Too Good to Die: Third Term and the Myth of the Indispensable Man in Africa,’ Atiku made all his resources available for Obasanjo’s presidential campaign.

The book, written by former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, and Ayisha Osori, author of ‘’Love Does Not Win Elections,” also revealed how Obasanjo beat late Alex Ekwueme to the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 1999 election.

Quoting an account from Atiku, the authors said the trio of Ibrahim Babangida, Theophilus Danjuma and Abdulsalami Abubakar wanted PDP to adopt Obasanjo as their presidential candidate “because they considered him the best person for the job.”

“Implicit in their position was their belief that they knew how to manipulate Obasanjo and the fact that Obasanjo did their bidding in 1979. They felt secure that he could be managed again,” the authors wrote.

Atiku was reportedly asked to join a team to Ogun to inform Obasanjo that he was going to run for the highest office in the land.

“When Atiku and Obasanjo discussed the call to serve as president, Obasanjo said he could not be president because he was a nearly bankrupt ex-convict. Atiku, through General (Aliyu) Gusau, paid money into Obasanjo’s account to begin his financial rehabilitation.

“Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar helped out by granting him an unconditional pardon. Atiku put everything he had at his disposal to support Obasanjo’s emergence as the PDP presidential candidate and, when he joined the ticket as the vice-presidential nominee, continued to make his assets available to Obasanjo and the campaign.

The Vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Peter Obi has advised Nigerians not to allow few politicians determine the future of the country but see themselves as stakeholders by being actively involved in the forthcoming general election.

Mr. Peter Obi stated this while addressing members of the Igbo Community in Benin on why Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should be elected as president.

Nigeria operating voodoo economy – Tinubu

FORMER Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, dissected Nigeria’s economy and declared that the country was operating a voodoo economic policy that is pauperising the citizenry and urged urgent economic surgery to save the polity.

For instance, Tinubu wondered why the Federal Government is maintaining a foreign reserve of $46 billion with one or two per cent interest and shouldering a load of $42 billion domestic debt, which it services with 16 per cent interest.

“This is voodoo economy,” he said, adding, “they are operating it because they don’t know what to do. It is choking the private sector.

“We must in this country do away with the idea of ‘it is better save the money and spend the people.’ Rather I will say we should adopt the policy of ‘it is better to save the people and spend the fund.’

See the situation Tinubu government placed you.
Even though Tinubu was the leading governor to deprioritise free basic education, he is no longer responsible for the failure of incumbent governors of the 36 states in this regard.

That failure is despite Obasanjo/Atiku administration creating UBEC over a quarter century ago to provide matching federal funds to states to help them achieve nine years of free and compulsory education for all children. The most culpable governors are the ones who call themselves progressive.

The difference between wicked Tinubu and Atiku is clear even without 7Up.

Uncompleted projects, dilapidated classrooms litter Ogun despite N10.2 billion rehabilitation

PREMIUM TIMES visited schools that the state government claimed to have rehabilitated and found decrepit and inadequate facilities.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said last year that over 400 primary and secondary schools have been renovated in Ogun State under his administration.

However, when PREMIUM TIMES late in 2022 toured the three senatorial districts of the state, our reporter found facilities in many public schools still in deplorable conditions.

The renovation project was executed with a N10.2 billion fund jointly contributed, equally, by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the state government.

UBEC released its share of the fund to the state government in 2019 to address infrastructural decay and inadequate facilities in 236 public schools across the state.
