Deltafirstson: Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.
In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.
However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.
On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.
Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.
Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.
At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.
However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.
King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.
On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.
Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.

Explanations like how he made the highest suspect in the murder of his AGF Bola Ige to be a senator from Agodi prison, during the 2003 election where AD fielded no candidate for president?
For six years after Bola Ige’s murder, Obasanjo failed to make anybody accountable for his death.
ganisucks: Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari for anointing Iyiola Omisore who is the prime suspect in the murder of late Attorney General, Bola Ige, as National Secretary of the APC.
Omisore was last Saturday elected National Secretary of the ruling APC during its National Convention held at the Eagles Square, Abuja, Nigeria.
Soyinka’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, titled: “Perhaps closed files should remain just that-Closed?”
He said barely three months had passed since the 20th anniversary of the murder of the late Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Bola Ige, an occasion that he utilized to remind Buhari, of a subsisting election pledge.
‘That pledge was to re-open the files on the spate of unsolved political assassinations that had plagued the nation in recent decades. Prominent among those cases was that of the Minister of Justice, murdered on his way to take up a prestigious position with the United Nations.
“Presidential response was swift. Buhari ordered the Inspector-General of Police to re-open those files and resume investigations.
The nation has patiently awaited even a hint of Work in Progress. Most, I am certain, expect no less than a revaluation of prior investigative efforts. None, to my knowledge, has attempted to rush the Chief of Police and his team into judgment. We all take solace in the knowledge that the wheels of justice grind slowly, but they arrive. Eventually,” he said.
Soyinka said an unusual turn of events has raised questions, as the ruling party, headed by the same President, had just elected as its National Secretary one of the prime suspects of this most notorious of the nation’s unsolved murders.
“Not for a moment does one suggest that mere accusation, even trial, presumes Guilt. More than mere verdict is involved in any trial however. The process of arriving at that ultimate destination – justice – is integral to the very concept of democracy and equality under the law. That process is one of the structures of civic education.
“Unresolved till today were quite a number of untidy, even suspect aspects of investigation, prosecution and trials, aspects which revealed improper cell co-habitation by suspects under custody. That this led necessarily to recantations of earlier depositions is not thereby proven, but the fact remains that such U-turns did take place.
“One was so brazen that it induced a heart attack that proved fatal to the victim’s wife, another Justice – Mrs. Atinuke Ige.
That the prime suspect was privileged in a number of improper ways went beyond mere allegation. Political interventions, including pressure on the judiciary during bail hearings, cannot be denied. A judge under such pressure kept a diary with accusations, pages of which he consigned to friends for safekeeping,” he added.
Soyinka asked: “With the emergence of the said prime suspect as National Secretary of the Ruling Party, is the Inspector-General of Police equipped to confront political obstacles in a resumption of investigation? Is there any guarantee that the result will see the light of day? How suspect, ab initio, will be the conclusions, given the present political ordering?
“I repeat: we are speaking of blatant, undeniable exercise of political interventions during investigations and the arraignment of suspects. Prior incumbency of the position of National Secretary of a ruling party has demonstrated the potent interventionist clout that can be wielded from that office.
“The president has personally received, and thus anointed the new incumbent. Since he remains central to any re-investigation – whatever form or direction it takes – just what value of objective assessment can be placed on the presidential pledge?”
With this scenario, the Nobel Laureate said that investigative revisit was already hamstrung and disrobed of credibility.
“I think the nation should simply relieve President Buhari of his pledge. I am certain the Inspector-General of Police will be equally relieved and can now turn his mind and energy to the national accustomed posture – Business as Usual ,” he stated.

citizenisb: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.
“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.
The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.
While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.
“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. dre11: Joining APC Makes the Brain Stop Working’ and 4 More Daniel Bwala Anti-Tinubu Remarks
There are three things in the world that deserve no mercy: hypocrisy, fraud, and tyranny. – Frederick William Robertson
Daniel Bwala, a staunch critic of President Tinubu, his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been seen frolicking with the President in recent days, which has infuriated the public.
For his past statements against the APC, Bwala, who was a spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council during the 2023 elections, has now drawn backlash.
He was an APC member until he defected to the PDP in 2022. He would later cite the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket as the reason for his exit.
While announcing his decision on X on July 10, 2022, Bwala wrote: “Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people.”
There are now speculations that he may return to the APC. He held a meeting with President Tinubu on Wednesday “to show appreciation and support for the bold decisions he is taking to deal with the crisis confronting [the] country”, and he revealed that he would support Tinubu without apologies, even if it meant going back to the APC.
Amid ongoing controversies surrounding Bwala’s recent interactions with the President, FIJ revisits five times in the past when he criticised the APC-led administration.
‘EVEN IF YOU GIVE TINUBU 30 YEARS, NOTHING WILL WORK‘
On December 25, 2023, Bwala expressed scepticism about President Tinubu’s ability to deliver within his four-year term. He argued that waiting for significant changes under Tinubu’s administration might not be feasible.
Bwala said, “When people talk about being patient and waiting, you have to look at the time frame the public officer is expected to execute the work. The President has just been voted into a term of four years. He is eight months into the term, which constitutes 31.8 percent of the total time that he has. He has less than 70 percent time in government; when is that going to happen? When President Buhari took over in 2015, it was the same language, and we patiently followed and he finished the first term and finished the second term. When there is a fundamental problem with policy, time is irrelevant; 30 years, it will not work.”
‘TINUBU’S CABINET MEMBERS WON’T PERFORM MORE THAN 15%‘
In August 2023, Bwala said that the cabinet members appointed by Tinubu would not perform beyond 15 percent because the President seemed more focused on politics than governance.
“I feel that when it comes to the number of ministers, he (Tinubu) was more particular about politics than governance. The number of governors in the cabinet and the portfolios assigned to some individuals were purely political. I don’t have an expectation of a performance that is going to be beyond 15 percent, looking at the cabinet members,” he said.
‘TINUBU IS PRESIDENT-SELECT, NOT PRESIDENT-ELECT’
In May 2023, Bwala said Tinubu was the ‘president-select’, and not the ‘president-elect’. He said Tinubu was selected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as their preferred candidate.
His words: “Now we are in court to say that it was a rigged process. As long as there is no final determination of the matter, we have every right under law, equity and justice to hold the opinion that we express that he is a president-select and not a president-elect.”
‘THE PDP CLEARLY WON THE ELECTION BUT APC RIGGED IT‘
Following the 2023 presidential polls, Bwala said his party won the election and alleged that the APC rigged it to emerge as the winner.
Bwala, who disclosed this in an interview with Arise TV in March 2023, said, “We clearly won. In fact, if these results were allowed to be read from the result sheet, we won with over 1 million vote. Nigerian people voted PDP as the winner of this election, but history and posterity is the one that will judge.”
‘JOINING APC MAKES THE HUMAN BRAIN STOP WORKING’
Bwala made a post on X in November 2022: “The human brain is unique and miraculous. It works and functions optically 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, until you join APC, then it stops working.”
Since his post resurfaced on Thursday amid his unabashed declaration of support for the APC, Bwala’s cognitive abilities have been questioned by Nigerians.
An X user with the handle @chymaker wrote, “His brain stopped working.”
Another X user @Morris_Monye, wrote, “There’s something wrong with this man’s brain.”
“Your brain didn’t take that long to stop working. Either you forgot to go for an annual checkup or your network is not as strong as you think. Whatever the case is, learn to clean your mouth,” wrote @Gary_Mazi

TheBedWench: The one-drop rule is a social and legal principle of racial classification that was historically prominent in the United States in the 20th century. It asserted that any person with even one ancestor of black ancestry ("one drop" of black blood)[1][2] is considered black (Negro or colored in historical terms).
This concept became codified into the law of some states in the early 20th century. It was associated with the principle of "invisible blackness" that developed after the long history of racial interaction in the South, which had included the hardening of slavery as a racial caste and later segregation. It is an example of hypodescent, the automatic assignment of children of a mixed union between different socioeconomic or ethnic groups to the group with the lower status, regardless of proportion of ancestry in different groups.[3]
The one-drop rule is defunct in law in the United States and was never codified into federal law.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has firmly dismissed reports alleging that retired Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Shikfu Parradang, was kidnapped and murdered, News360 Nigeria reports.
In an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Office, authorities clarified the circumstances surrounding Mr Parradang’s death, urging the public to disregard unverified information that could spark unnecessary alarm.
According to the statement, Mr Parradang arrived at the Joy House Hotel at Area 3 Junction on 3 March 2025 at approximately 12:00 PM, travelling in a black Mercedes Benz.
He checked into the hotel and paid N22,000 for one night’s accommodation. Shortly after his arrival, he instructed a hotel attendant to escort a visiting female guest to his room.
The guest departed the hotel around 4:00 PM.
It was reported that Mr Parradang remained in his room after the visitor left.
However, at approximately 4:00 AM on 4 March 2025, a friend and military officer, concerned for his welfare, traced him to the hotel.
Upon arriving, the officer, alongside the hotel receptionist, discovered Mr Parradang deceased, seated in a chair in his room.
A police team from Durumi Police Station were immediately notified, and officers quickly secured the scene, documenting the evidence and taking photographs.
Mr Parradang’s body has since been transferred to the National Hospital for further procedures, while the investigation continues with particular focus on the involvement of the female guest, who is currently the subject of an arrest inquiry.
The FCT Police Command has called on both the public and media outlets to refrain from circulating rumours or unconfirmed reports, especially those pertaining to kidnapping, as such misinformation can induce needless panic. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities remain determined to establish the full facts behind this tragic incident.

Emergingnation: Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party
National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.
During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.
He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.
His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.
“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.
“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.
“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.
Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

According to the Okija shrine Anambra governor who was labour minister and also a medical doctor, the above is trashy story that is from the writer's figment of imagination.
Nollyzonenews: The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, says doctors who feel they want to relocate in search of greener pastures are free to do so as the nation has enough medical personnel.
Ngige said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday. The minister was responding to a question on brain drain and the deliberate recruitment of Nigerian doctors by foreign embassies in Nigeria to the detriment of the nation’s health sector.
In his response, however, Ngige, who is also a medical doctor, said there was nothing wrong with doctors leaving the country as they would continue to send foreign exchange home which could, in turn, grow the economy.
He said, “No, I am not worried (about doctors leaving the country). We have surplus. If you have surplus, you export. It happened some years ago here. I was taught chemistry and biology by Indian teachers in my secondary school days.
nairalanda1: And what are you doing? Supporting a party that is doing the same thing as APC.?
You guys, stop following politicans, and stop demanding cake when there is no cake.
Why have have failed to counter that PDP is more capitalist than APC is? If you don't follow politicians based on their ideological record, how will that help the country get to where you want
nairalanda1: So, you admit that Yaradua reversed the sales of refineries.
GEJ also brought in the subsidy regimen on power . Imagine privatising the sector, and still keeping price controls.
The problem really is Nigerians. They make up the APC and the PDP, and they all want petrol and power to be dirt cheap. That's unrealistic.
And that's why your campaigning for PDP to come back does not make any sense, as this APC government does not make sense.
We need a government that would be realistic enough to remove subsides and stop price controls, and diversify this economy. Not the same old quasi socialist rubbish we have been seeing since independence.
LIke now, Atiku and Obi are saying we should never have removed subsidy. Tinubu is keeping subsidy on power and still slyly subsidizing the naira. And you expect economic changes. PLus telecoms, the government forces them to set prices.
Sigh.
So how much efforts are you putting into a VIABLE party to remove subsidies and stop price controls, since sighing won't magically make the government do what you want at the federal level, which may be frustrated by the 36 states and 774 LGAs?
nairalanda1: PDP also maintained subsides and price controls on power, and also the refineries depreiciated under their watch thanks to their maintaining subsides on petrol.
And they didn't diversify the economy
Negates whatever good they did. Ye cannot have partial capitalism.
If you are genuinely for capitalism, why would you diss those who have made strides towards your goal for those who have not, seeing that we have two broad ideological options in both parties? Have you heard about half bread is better than none?
PDP sold refineries under Obasanjo that was reversed by YarÁdua, and Jonathan's efforts to sell them again was frustrated.
If PDP didn't diversify the economy, then where is all the ICT gains coming from, if not from the deregulation of the telecom sector more than two decades ago
nairalanda1: PDP polices of massive subsides on everything is why we did not have light and why we had no working refineries , instead we got worsening refineries instead.
And your atiku came and told us that we should bring back subsides. On top of the debt buhari left for us?
Apc is shite, but pdp is responsible for a lot of the economic mess we have now.
No, I am not a tinubu supporter. I call things as they are.

Some of this so-called experts don't even know what is going on.
1. During Mr Buhari's regime, the CBN was supplying about 65% of the total dollars sold in Nigeria.
2. As of today, that figure has fallen to around 3%!
3. Since December up to now, the CBN has been stepping in to buy dollars because more dollars have been coming into Nigeria than the market can absorb.
That situation can change but for about 3 months now, the net contribution of the CBN to the forex market is only about 3%.
That is a fantastic development.
The Naira is currently operating on its own based on market forces, with little to no net contribution from the CBN.

The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, confirmed this to Arise TV, said it is the first tranche of the $3.3bn facility from the bank. He noted that the loan was aimed at resolving the acute FX shortage that has hampered the economy.
According to the report monitored by our correspondent, the balance of $1.05bn will be received in the first week of January.
Edun stated that work has commenced for solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
In August, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited announced that it had secured a $3bn emergency loan from the Afrexim Bank to stabilise the country’s volatile foreign exchange market.
Na only Nigeria opposition dey think say the dollar naira rate must return back to 2015.
Reasonable number of them did not attend the economics class in secondary school
Very illiterate set of people
More illiterate than Buhari who promised to make it lower than what it was in 2015? Or less illiterate that the old soldier T-Pain made into APC messiah of shege
Omooba77: Owerri – The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday said he would ensure that the Naira was equal to the dollar in value, if voted into office. Buhari stated this during the South-East presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyima Stadium, Owerri.
“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s economy,’’ he said. He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.
Earlier, Gov Rochas Okorocha had urged APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates at all levels, noting that a vote for Buhari without support to others at the state would amount to nothing. Okorocha said Buhari would address the problem of electricity, bring back the kidnapped Chibok girls and promote industrial growth.
He said that Buhari was loved by the people in the region and urged them to elect him and other APC candidates during the March 28 and April 11 general elections.
Former governor of Anambra, Mr Chinwoke Mbadinuju and former Minister of Education, Chinwe Obaji, were formally welcomed to the APC at the rally.
The rally was attended by APC supporters from Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu and Imo. (NAN)
omoredia: When it increases u thieves will lock up
It's actually increased from when Jonathan and PDP were chased out by the 200 million mumus who were scammed into thinking that Tinubu's 2011 expired leader looter was the best thing after sliced yam. The messiah of change has revealed himself to be a master of shege that T-Pain is continuing in APC stylee. The question is why life has become worse in our country despite higher oil prices. maybe smart people like you can help us out with the reasoning
anthonykezy: Oil slump: Bring down fuel price immediately, Fashola tells FG ON DECEMBER 7, 2014
Lagos—As the global oil prices slid further downward, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, asked the Federal Government to review downward the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, from N97 per litre in the country in tandem with the slump in world oil price. President Jonathan and Gov Babatubde Fashola of Lagos
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, had last Friday, on its website pegged the oil price at $66.27 per barrel. Fashola who blasted FG for its reluctance to adjust the pump price of PMS, made the remarks while addressing hundreds of youths at the Lagos State and After School Graduation Development Centre, AGDC, IGNITE Employability Project 5, Ikeja. He lamented that Nigerians were not receiving fair treatment from the central government like others in oil producing nation.
Fashola said, “Now we should be enjoying cheap fuel if the price of oil has dropped globally. Even as we import the product, a major component has reduced in price and while this has reduced, the pump price of fuel in the country still remains the same. “Then something is wrong. If the price increases in the country when the price of oil goes up globally, then it should also reduce when the price of oil drops. “I understand that I am not an economist; they (Federal Government) are the economists. But I have some logic and common sense to ask critical questions. For instance, if one buy flour at N10 per kilogram, and the bread was sold at N1 per loaf. If the price of flour drops, the price of the bread should also change,” Fashola added. The governor, therefore, urged President Goodluck Jonathan led administration to follow the footstep of other countries that have reduced the pump price of oil products for their citizens.
I care oh. Asiwaju must deliver what Buhari failed to do. This is what ọmọlúwàbís do- we deliver what we promise.
anonimi: World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate[
April 23, 2023
The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*
“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.
“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.
The eboLa who misled us into worsening extreme poverty, inflation, unemployment, insecurity and even corruption by abandoning the party that made him president from prison like Joseph, in 2015 even though he knew that Buhari was an olodo, just like Tinubu knew the old soldier was expired in 2011
citizenisb: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.
He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.”
hafeeanubasy: But you believe Sahara reporters reportage of Tinubu own....The joke is on you!
The joke is on you if you fail to show where the federal government denied the news, which was available on other outlets, in the way that Osun denied the debts story with facts from DMO.
