Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.

On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.

On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.

Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.

Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

Oil slump: Bring down fuel price immediately, Fashola tells FG ON DECEMBER 7, 2014

Lagos—As the global oil prices slid further downward, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, asked the Federal Government to review downward the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS,  from N97 per litre in the country in tandem with the slump in world oil price. President Jonathan and Gov Babatubde Fashola of Lagos The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, had last Friday, on its website pegged the oil price at $66.27 per barrel. Fashola who blasted FG for its reluctance to adjust the pump price of   PMS, made the remarks while addressing hundreds of youths at the  Lagos State and After School  Graduation Development Centre,  AGDC, IGNITE Employability Project 5, Ikeja. He lamented that Nigerians were not receiving fair treatment from the central government like others in oil producing nation.

Fashola said, “Now we should be enjoying cheap fuel if the price of oil has dropped globally. Even as we import the product, a major component has reduced in price and while this has reduced, the pump price of fuel in the country still remains the same. “Then something is wrong. If the price increases in the country when the price of oil goes up globally, then it should also reduce when the price of oil drops. “I understand that I am not an economist; they (Federal Government) are the economists. But I have some logic and common sense to ask critical questions. For instance, if one buy flour at N10 per kilogram, and the bread was sold at N1 per loaf. If the price of flour drops, the price of the bread should also change,” Fashola added. The governor, therefore, urged President Goodluck Jonathan led administration to follow the footstep of other countries that have reduced the pump price of oil products for their citizens.

Osun State's Debt Under Governor Adeleke Surges To N336billion Over Heavy Reliance On Loans

According to a report released by the Auditor-General of Osun State, Kolapo Idris, a detailed analysis of the state’s fiscal strategies has been provided.

The Osun State Government’s 2023 financial audit has revealed a staggering accumulation of loans and borrowings, bringing the state's total debt to over N336billion.

According to a report released by the Auditor-General of Osun State, Kolapo Idris, a detailed analysis of the state’s fiscal strategies has been provided.

The audit disclosed that domestic debts include a salary bailout of N21.6 billion, restructured commercial bank loans of N73.9 billion, and a Federal Government intervention fund worth N18.4 billion.

Meanwhile, on the international front, the state’s external debt stands at N78.5 billion, stating its heavy reliance on borrowed funds.

Further examination of loans managed by the Domestic Debt Management Office (DMO) reveals additional liabilities.

These include undisclosed loans (Note 44) totalling N114 billion, a budget support facility of N17.2 billion, an Excess Crude Account (ECA) facility of N9 billion, and infrastructure loans amounting to N4.3 billion, pushing DMO-managed domestic loans to N144.6 billion.

Also, the state's public debt charges for 2023 amounted to N16.73 billion, falling short by over N3 billion from the N19.85 billion that was initially budgeted.

The variance of N3.12 billion primarily resulted from lower-than-expected domestic interest and principal payments on treasury bills and long-term borrowings.

Meanwhile, domestic interest payments totalled N1.57 billion, below the budgeted N2.38 billion, while principal payments amounted to N15.15 billion, under budget by N2.33 billion.

However, the state’s travel and transport expenses totalled N4.38 billion, reflecting a minor shortfall of N253.7 million compared to the estimated N4.63 billion.

Debt Profile: Data by DMO Validates Osun’s Success on Debt Management – Governor Adeleke’s Spokesperson
NEWS RELEASE

OSOGBO – 08/12/2024- Osunstate.gov.ng

The Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Mallam Olawale Rasheed has said that data released by Debt Management Office has vindicated the Adeleke led administration on the debt profile of the state.

He added that as against the falsehood published by certain online news platforms and amplified by the All Progressives Congress (APC), State External Debt according to the DMO has reduced by 15% while Domestic Debt reduced by 42%.

Stating this in a statement issued on Sunday, Mallam Olawale Rasheed said that the Domestic debt of Osun was ₦148.37 billion as at December 2022 but reduced to ₦86.06 billion as at June 2024 while Foreign Debt as at December 2022 was $91.78 million but reduced to $78.17 million as at June 2024.

He said, “The truth remains that Osun State Debt profile has actually reduced under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the last two years. Data doesn’t lie and cannot be hidden.

“The Domestic debt of Osun was ₦148.37 billion as at December 2022 but it has now reduced to ₦86.06 billion as at June 2024. In the same manner Foreign Debt as at December 2022 was $91.78 million but it has now reduced to $78.17 million as at June 2024.

“What that means is that the Domestic debt of Osun reduced by 42% and also the External debt reduced by 15% within two years of our administration.

Supplementary Budget: Tinubu to spend N6.9bn on vehicles, First Lady’s Office to get N1.5bn cars

President Bola Tinubu has proposed to spend over N6.9 billion on procurement of vehicles for the State House, with the Office of the First Lady getting N1.5 billion for new cars.

This is contained in the Supplementary Budget Tinubu sent to the National Assembly for approval.

It would be recalled that the President sent a N2.17 trillion Supplementary Budget to the National Assembly for approval.

The government plans to send N2.9 billion on Sport Utility Vehicles, SUVs, for the Presidential Villa and another N2.9 billion on replacing the cars in the pool.

This proposed expenditure is coming at a time when Nigerians are still protesting the decision of the National Assembly to procure N75 billion worth of vehicles.

Some young persons had held protests in Lagos and Abuja over the planned spending by the lawmakers at a time when Nigerians are facing a tough economic situation.

In the proposed supplementary budget, the government is planning to spend N28 billion on the State House. In addition, the government is planning to spend N12.5 billion on the Presidential a6ir Fleet.

[quote author=NLCreator post=126854133]Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.

There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.

Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.

The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.

While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.

“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.

“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.

“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”

Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

Neo-black Problem: Must Blacks Be Ruled by Whites in Order to Prosper?

In short, the neo-black dilemma may be framed as follows: is it better to live under white rule without political dignity but with basic life-sustaining standards for many;

or to live under black rule with illusory political dignity and without basic life- sustaining standards for the majority?

The path forward for Africa lies in cultivating higher and adequate levels of personal and communal agential integrity as well as full personal responsibility and productivity. Not to mention creativity (including epistemic creativity), productive justice (such as merit and freedom), harmony and reconciliation at local and international levels, and a proper domestication of capitalism and other related values and institutions.

Africa must stop wasting her time on dreams of socialism because it is a system of wealth distribution primarily. Whereas, capitalism is a system of wealth creation primarily, and wealth has to be produced before it can be distributed.

Despite his rumoured third party vendor certificate from Chicago, has he not made our country worse than the NEPA certificate soldier he alone made president to earn his own ebilokan turn to continue APC shege?

Imagine this kind of advice from the senate president, mocking us for the extreme poverty, corruption, inflation, hunger, inflation, unemployment, insecurity etc that have become worse under their leadership.

Lagos is well developed with all the IGR increase coughed up by the masses who can’t even get ordinary water supply in return. A quarter century of progressive Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo Olu.

What do you think happened to all the trillions of Lagos revenue since 1999huh

The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.

At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.

The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.

Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.

The Oyo State-born mechanic said, “We don’t have toilet in this area, including our compound. This canal that you see serves as toilet to all of us living in this area. We defecate inside nylon and throw it inside the canal.

“For people that don’t want to use nylon, they have a special bucket that they use after which they pour it inside the canal too.

Typical APC strategy for converting politicians into their Assembly of Past Crooks where sins are forgotten for those who remain loyal and silent about the worsening suffering of the people.

FactBoyz:
Daily Post Nigeria

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said politicians’ sins are forgiven when they join the ruling party.

Oshiomhole made this statement on Thursday, while welcoming new members to the party, at the APC presidential campaign in Benin.

As he reeled out names of those who have defected from the PDP to the APC, he said: “I am told that there are a lot of very very senior people from PDP who have decided to join forces with President Buhari to take the broom to sweep away PDP and to continue to ensure that APC continues to preside all over Nigeria.

“It includes my own brother, my friend who comes from my own clime, Henry Duke Genebe. He is the former organising secretary of PDP and we also have former vice chairman PDP and leader of Edo North of PDP. We also have my brother Chief Esheshi Godwin. He is also former council chairman and my very dear friend. We have quite a number of other leaders who have come.

“We have quite a number of other leaders who have come… in fact, once you have joined APC, all your sins are forgiven.”

The truth is... They don't even need to think that far.

Nigerians are naturally enterprising... Just give them the right and conducive environment.

Just tackle and solve Insecurity along with power supply, and the economy will boom! Investors would be all over.

Even the basic things, they can't even resolve.

Omo!!! Wahala dey o!
How can investors be all over this economy when pseudo progressive socialists prefer government control of businesses unlike the privatisation and free market capitalists of PDP?

How can Tinubu and Shettima resolve any basic things in Abuja when they failed to do so in their respective states for eight years? Abi, how much improvement occurred in the volume, quality, pressure and coverage of ordinary pipe borne water supply in Lagos and Borno state during the tenure of the two individuals huh

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

How is that possible almost two years after T-Pain said that subsidy is GONE and three refineries have been producing fuel for months?

Are you kidding us huh

So what is the point of T-Pain’s failure to crash the price of petrol as he promised?

Deltafirstson:

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.
