Berankis: Are these really white men? Well, I feel native South Africans are still psychological and even literally under the subjugation of the so-called 'whites' or European settlers. Instead of them to fight genuinely for their true freedom, conversely they were trying to still impress the whites and gain their acceptance on south africans' own soil. They have been trying to achieve this, by tagging other black Africans in their country as the enemies. Unfortunately, it will only lead them to deeper challenges. Any idea why Nigerians and other black Africans are not flooding Zimbabwe after clueless idiot-a Mugabe wrecked it by fighting "genuinely" for their freedom? Genuinely by seizing lands from white farmers and redistributing to olodo blacks as political settlement to stay forever in power?Did you notice that the black employee involved in killing the black South African women is a Zimbabwean |

No. The majority of Nigerians and other Africans enjoy certain technologies and infrastructure as a result of the decision of the Chinese to spread them to Africa. The roads, telecommunications infrastructure, railways, airports, sea ports, factories, mining, heavy-duty equipment etc. Without the Chinese immense contributions and investments, Africa would have been much poorer than it is and MANY Africans would have been starved of ubiquitous technologies in other parts of the world.
No race or country is perfect, but the Chinese have been a hooge blessing to Africa(ns), nay black people, without the dehumanisation we received in the past 400+ years. Are you saying that Chinese racism towards blacks is hugely better than that of the whites |

Gerrard59: The United States massively helped Japan back to its feet by providing intellectual property, openness of the US market and favourable deals. As Japan grew tremendously as a result of its hard work where its firms challenged their American counterparts, the United States cut its wings with the Plaza Accord. It is that similar deal the Chinese have refused to sign. So, yes, the Japanese worked hard to be where they are today, but they had strong American assistance. Ditto for South Korea which had assistance from Japan, and China had investments from Japan and an open market to the US. Europe on its own had the Marshall Plan Act.
As for the Dominican Republic, as the other poster stated, the Portuguese/Spaniards were not as destructive as the French. See the miscegenation they did across South America compared to the One-Drop Rule Anglo-Americans did in the US. But generally, the French have been terribly bad towards black countries, and even other colonies. Haiti was forced to pay huge loans because it challenged French colonial powers. I cannot think of a prosperous country whose previous colonial masters were the French. It is that bad. So the key is hard work, which we blacks are not interested in, preferring to blame colonial masters for our woes? Dominica and St. Lucia are former French colonies in the Caribbean that are not as bad as Haiti. Were the Japanese antagonistic towards Americans when they were receiving support from them? Or the Germans? Or even the Chinese and South Koreans? If a small boy is arrogant and antagonistic to his big man benefactor, why should he not be dealt with ruthlessly |

Also, Haiti is in the Americas, aka the Monroe Doctrine. Thus limiting any trade, military or scientific collaboration I will want to have with the Chinese. Nearby Gabon the Chinese provide funds for its military, and the US suddenly invited the president for what-I-don't-know. How and why is the Dominican Republic, which shares the same island with Haiti, so much different? How and why did the Japanese turn out so well with American domination after WWII?When will we address our own shortcomings as blacks, in order to make meaningful progress |

Cajal: Only a kid will not understand how military regime and 16 years of misrule kick-started economic misfortune Is that why Tinubu packaged clueless former military dictator Buhari as messiah after making him cry in 2011 by saying he was CPC's expired leadership? Do you have any idea at all of what you are talking about Emergingnation: Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party
National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.
During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.
He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.
His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.
“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.
“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.
“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.
Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

SmartPolician: Choosing to contest in the 2023 elections was one of the best decisions Peter Obi ever made. You cannot be this disciplined, knowledgeable, rich and experienced in public and private sectors and still be playing second fiddle. As a result of that decision, his influence and popularity are growing across Africa and around the world. Influence in snapping random pictures The influence that he used to help Tinubu achieve his ebilokan dream for unending hunger and starvation choking of the masses jameshankss: Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has said he is sure the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, would lose the 2023 presidential election. Soludo said he would not submit to the bullying of Obi’s supporters, who recently descended on him for addressing issues in the state.
The governor made the comments in a lengthy write-up personally authored, with the title, “History Beckons, and I Will Not Be Silent (Part 1).”
Soludo said Obi was inadvertently making the pathway to victory much easier for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and at the same time, toying with the destiny of millions of Ndigbo.
But the chief spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Yunusa Tanko, accused Soludo of being sponsored by some unknown persons to weaken the base of the party in the South-east.
The former CBN governor had been under intense attack for close to a week for dismissing Obi’s investment in the state as amounting to nothing, during a television interview.
Soludo said in the write-up, “My attention has been drawn to some of the tirades on social media following my frank response during an interview on Channels TV regarding the ‘investments’ Mr. Peter Obi claimed to have made with Anambra State revenues.
“Sadly, several of the comments left the issue of the interview to probe or suggest motives, inferred from my response on ‘investment’ that I am opposed to Peter Obi’s ambition and, therefore, committed a ‘crime’ for which the punishment is internecine abuse and harassment, even to my family.
“Everyone knows that I don’t follow the winds or one to succumb to bullies, or shy away from a good fight especially, when weighty matters of principles and future of the people are involved.”
Soludo said he had urged Obi to return to his former party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to actualise his presidential bid. He added that he had always told the LP candidate to his face that he was not capable of winning the 2023 presidential election, especially, under LP, which had neither a councillor nor a local government chairman.
Soludo said Obi was not just his friend, but also his brother, but despite that, they have their political differences.
He stated, “For full disclosure, let me state that Peter Obi and I are not just friends, we call ourselves ‘brothers’. But we have political differences: he left APGA for PDP after his tenure as governor, while I have remained in APGA since 2013.
“During the last two governorship elections in Anambra in 2017 and 2021, he led the PDP campaigns but APGA won landslide in both elections. By the way, in 2016, he visited and proposed that I defect to PDP and contest the 2017 election against the incumbent Willie Obiano, but I declined.
“After my victory in November 2021, he called to congratulate me, as I did to him in 2010. That is the Anambra way: we fight fiercely during campaigns but share drinks at the next social events. After all, it was the Great Zik of Africa, who taught us that in politics, there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies but only permanent interests.”
Arguing that Obi’s presidential bid would only work in favour of Tinubu, Soludo said, “Indeed, if I were Asiwaju Tinubu, I would even give Peter Obi money as someone heading one of the departments of his campaign, because Obi is making Tinubu’s pathway to victory much easier by indirectly pulling down PDP.”
Obi, according to Soludo, would only deplete the votes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pave the path for an APC victory.
He stated, “The current fleeting frenzy, if not checked, will cost Ndigbo dearly for years. The South-east has the lowest number of votes of any region, but it is also the only region where the presidential race might be a four-way race (it is a two-way race in the other five regions) thereby, ensuring that our votes won’t count in the making of the next president of Nigeria.

Ethiopia: Addis Ababa Rail System Struggles as Only 15 Trains Remain Operational Written by 2M Editor Published on 04 September 2024
Nearly a decade after its much-anticipated launch, Addis Ababa's light-rail system is facing significant challenges, with only 15 of the original 41 trains still operational. The decline in service is attributed to a shortage of spare parts, inadequate maintenance facilities, and frequent power outages.
Ato Worku Desta, Deputy Head of the Research and Technology Department at the Addis Ababa Transport Bureau, confirmed that the city's rail service has deteriorated over time and failed to live up to expectations. To keep some trains running, damaged units have been cannibalized for spare parts, but this approach has proven unsustainable.
The rail system was part of a broader USD 14.8 billion loan-funded infrastructure initiative by China, which included the Ethio-Djibouti railway, airport expansions, and road projects. While initially hailed as transformative, the rail service has been hampered by poor planning and insufficient arrangements for maintenance, spare parts, and local expertise.

nairalanda1: I believe that APC should have been voted out this last election (and in fact, APC would have lost the election if not for the division in the opposition)...but if your preferred candidate won, the same thing would have played out.
The problem is years of subsidising fuel have contributed to a massive debt problem for Nigeria. Keeping fuel below its production cost for years has meant years of deficit budgets and more deficit budgets.....meaning as at August 2022, we were spending 90% of our revenue on debt servicing.
A graded removal of fuel subsidy as some were proposing would have still left us in more debt (and tinubu is doing the same thing).
At the end, we should have removed subsidy in 2012. Even earlier. Fayemi and his fellow smart APC members played politics with our destiny by getting Buhari’s 2011 running mate to lead the 2012 fuel deregulation protests. Obasanjo’s oversized ego helped Tinubu make Buhari president in 2015, and unwittingly helped Tinubu become president last year. |
