Appeal Court Removed ‘Illegal’ NURTW President ‘MC Oluomo’, But He Won’t Quit Office
Musiliu Akinsanya, a former chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Management Committee, has continued to disregard the law in acting as national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), a trade union of transport workers in the country.
In November 2024, a Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed an earlier National Industrial Court of Nigeria judgment pronouncing Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as president of the union.
Baruwa had served for four years and he was to be serving his second term, having been reelected in August 2023, three months to the termination of his first tenure as enunciated by the union’s constitution.

iwaeda: The police command in Cross River says its operatives have arrested Okoi Obono-Obla, a former presidential adviser, over allegations of forgery and obtaining entry into the legal profession by false pretence.
In a statement on Thursday, Eitokpah Sunday, Cross River police spokesperson, said Obono-Obla was “lawfully arrested” on Thursday around Abuja Park, Ugep town, in Cross River state.
Sunday said the arrest was sequel to a petition submitted to the state commissioner of police over allegations bordering on “forgery and obtaining admission or professional qualification/entry into the legal profession by false pretence”.
The police spokesperson dismissed claims that the ex-presidential adviser was kidnapped by unidentified security operatives.
“The arrest was effected in accordance with extant laws and in the exercise of the constitutional and statutory powers of the Nigeria Police Force to investigate allegations of criminal conduct,” the statement reads.
The root of insecurity here, is Tinubu and APC’s fight for power since before 2015 when they invited terrorists to destroy our country.
Thereafter, the master strategist went to kaduna and begged Buhari to make Jonathan a one term president.

Ofunaofu: Report: Current Govt Added More Debt in Two Years Than Nigeria Accumulated in 55 Years
• Decries Nigeria’s debt service-to-revenue ratio
•Urges FG to declare fiscal emergency
A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.
The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings. > > According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.
The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.
The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.
“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.
It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.

anonimi: ‘How Atiku saved Obasanjo from near bankruptcy before he emerged president’‘
A new book has revealed how former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, saved ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo from near bankruptcy before he emerged president in 1999.
According to the new book, entitled ‘’Too Good to Die: Third Term and the Myth of the Indispensable Man in Africa,’ Atiku made all his resources available for Obasanjo’s presidential campaign.
The book, written by former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, and Ayisha Osori, author of ‘’Love Does Not Win Elections,” also revealed how Obasanjo beat late Alex Ekwueme to the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 1999 election.
Quoting an account from Atiku, the authors said the trio of Ibrahim Babangida, Theophilus Danjuma and Abdulsalami Abubakar wanted PDP to adopt Obasanjo as their presidential candidate “because they considered him the best person for the job.”
“Implicit in their position was their belief that they knew how to manipulate Obasanjo and the fact that Obasanjo did their bidding in 1979. They felt secure that he could be managed again,” the authors wrote.
Atiku was reportedly asked to join a team to Ogun to inform Obasanjo that he was going to run for the highest office in the land.
“When Atiku and Obasanjo discussed the call to serve as president, Obasanjo said he could not be president because he was a nearly bankrupt ex-convict. Atiku, through General (Aliyu) Gusau, paid money into Obasanjo’s account to begin his financial rehabilitation.
“Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar helped out by granting him an unconditional pardon. Atiku put everything he had at his disposal to support Obasanjo’s emergence as the PDP presidential candidate and, when he joined the ticket as the vice-presidential nominee, continued to make his assets available to Obasanjo and the campaign.
How is someone who wants to make life better and easier for us a mumu to you? Someone who has done it before and laid the foundation for 16 years of PDP prosperity, peace and security.

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”
On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.
Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.
emkz: The dollars were subsidized heavily to keep the exchange rate artifically low. That benefitted the elites and gradually led to a dollarization of the economy. Recall that Obasanjo/Atiku regime were defending the naira by subsidizng the dollars. Did this stimulate production? No. It enhanced exports which allowed Peter Obi to import exotic wines sold at Next superstores.
The privatisation became a mess as pensioners were left unpaid and companies were alleged to be sold to cronies.
Obasanjo/Atiku secured debt forgiveness by paying off $16 billion to Paris Club. That money could have been channelled to improving our power grid and building new infrastructure like a 500 km high speed rail.
What Obasanjo and Atiku did amounted to economic rascality.
What Tinubu is doing amounts to economic collapse.
anonimi: Nigeria remains fourth largest economy in Africa despite rebasing
July 21, 2025
Nigeria has retained its status as the fourth largest economy in Africa despite a rebasing exercise that expanded the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that the economy expanded to N372.8 trillion ($243 billion) in 2024, down from N314.02 trillion in the prior year as more sectors in the informal economy were considered in its calculations.
The statistics bureau adopted 2019 as its base year away from 2010 that’s previously reported.
The rebasing exercise covers the period from 2019 to 2023 and reflects changes in the economy’s structure, sectoral contributions, and data sources.
Despite the overhaul, Nigeria fails to reclaim its erstwhile status as the largest economy in Africa.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), South Africa remains the continent’s biggest economy with a GDP of $410.34 billion for a country with little over a quarter of Nigeria’s population.
Following the Southern African nation is Egypt with a GDP of $347 billion while Algeria maintains its third position having $268.9 billion as the size of its economy.
Although Nigeria’s economy grew 30 percent above the projected $188 billion estimate by the IMF this year, the rebasing was poised to place the economy as the biggest in Africa.

emkz: Atiku's campaign need to clarify the following:
1. He said he would sell crude to local refiners at discounted prices. That means crude would be sold at below market price. That means the nation would take a hit. Where will Atiku get the funds to offset the deficit to government earnings due to the proposed discount? When crude is sold at a discounted rate, it means revenue that could go into education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure is lost. How will Atiku recoup it?
2. Will Atiku subsidize logistics and refining costs too?
3. Paul Ibe said it would be for a period. The country would need a timeline for Atiku's plans. How long will the subsidy run?
4. Paul Ibe used a surgical analogy to say a surgery will not perform two surgeries at once. If someone has blunt trauma on his neck and foot, is Paul Ibe saying the surgeon should focus on the neck and neglect the foot with the risk of the patient bleeding out and dying?
I think the conversation on fuel subsidy needs to be rested. Subsidy benefited the rich who had SUVs and could run generators for 24 hours. Subsidy only helped the poor for low prices of goods. My suggestion is to subsidize mass transportation by buying mass transit buses in major towns so that people can move easily. These buses can run on CNG. Also, let Ministry of Agriculture purchase commodities from farmer's cooperatives and sell at government markets run by cooperatives. These are quick wins instead of taking us back to something that drained our finances.
Atiku ran a prosperous country with Obasanjo on deregulation and privatisation policies that gave us cheap petrol, cheap dollars with low debt burden.

anonimi: Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC
January 19, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.
On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.
But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.
It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun made this known at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja. Mr. Edun said that the benefit of the subsidy removal will be plough back into various sectors to improve business environment for local and foreign investment. He added that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.
