GloriousGbola: The difference is that APC did not deploy full military might of the FG and loot the treasury to as gej did in 2013 install a political pariah in ekiti as governor
We remember very well.
The records show that APC is much worse than PDP in these things, including corruption.
How else is Tinubu and Buhari borrowing more than PDP presidents who gave us cheap petrol, cheap dollars, prosperity, peace and security?
socialmediaman: The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.
There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.
Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.
In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.
There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.
gabydaniels: Aug 25, 2016 The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has disclosed that the federal government has so far saved the sum of N1.4 trillion for not paying oil subsidy.
He also assured Nigerians that very soon, the foreign exchange market would stabilise going by some radical policies already introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The vice president who spoke in Kano yesterday during the third day of the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development meeting, urged Nigerians to restore confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, insisting that soonest, the current economic problems would become a thing of the past.
“With the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, there has been a significant increase in the availability of petrol throughout the country for the savings of N1.4 trillion on subsidy payments alone,” he said.
“Also, a more flexible exchange rate regime, we will have to decrease the pressure on the external reserve. In the short run of course, there should be consequences for inflation. We expect that with greater priority we have seen in the implementation of the policy by the CBN, the foreign exchange market will stabilise and confidence will be restored.
epainos: May mercy and grace find Ogogo. If one of the top oncologists in Nigeria says it is stage 4, trust me...it is very likely... and for this lady to come out for an alternative help for her dad, it means that most likely hospice care has been recommended with a deadline. But there is nothing mercy, grace, & favor cannot achieve. I remember vividly that he was so sick some years back and he lost so much weight before he bounced back. My guess what that he beat something serious and may likely be cancer, and most likely, the thing came back active. The truth is that cancer cells dont die like that, and this is the mistake the world is still making. Maybe not a mistake but sacrifices the world must pay first. Why did I say so? This present world will never go into organic and natural food production at this time. Chemical food will not stop. So, add one plus one, you shoukd get two if you are wise. I wont say more. They will continue until commercial production of food is safe. But now that they know it is not safe, they wont stop cos they have to make profit. Just that they are also spending heavily to find a way of making good food, patent it, and keep making money. But for them to say, lets go back to the traditional way where anyone can make his seeds and grow without buying chemicals......dey play. To prevent cancer, dementia, diabetes, high blood pressure, and many other sicknesses, you must go organic at least 70% and use some other methods to keep flushing out toxins from the other 30%. To me, over 95% is the best, so you dont need to flush anything...your body does it for you effortlessly at 95 to 100. And i believe to recover from cancer and to not make it come back after doctors say you are free,at least 95% is non negotiable for at least 5 years. But when you have already done something for 5 years straight, its already part of you. Note that these things arent killing us before chemical industrialization. I am not here to argue with anyone. If you like, attack me. I always tell such person..."na your die...not mine". In Naija, there is nothing like organic food ooo. You cannot even go to grocery stores and find a section for organic food. Lol. Rather, the market is filled with bad products. Food with extremely pesticide residues used by farmers and warehouse owners. Just forget it...all grains in Nigeria are messed up. If you doubt me, google Nigerian bean/cowpea and see that it has been banned in EU for over 15 years now. Our yams cannot enter the US too. This issue is why we are losing forex seriously. Farmers use dangerous pesticides, but those warehouse owners use more deadlier chemicals. Then, fresh food traders too....those ones are experts in buying unripe fruits and then using chemicals to ripen them in batches. If they buy naturally riped fruits and veggies, they dont have power (electricity) to keep them fresh na. So, thats their secret. Lol. And fresh meat/fish sellers. Just know that you are likely consuming the same chemical used for preserving dead body in the morgue. If you know, you know. Now, tell me why people wont die young? Many die and they weren't diagnosed cos they dont have money for good medicare. But you are hearing about famous people because they still went for proper check up. But most times, it is non stop of rating these bad food that wont allow them recover. Life expectancy is 53 years. Ogogo has passed it na...so, kudos to him. When they tell you that Nigeria has young population more than the old and we are close to or even over 300 million, tou dont get it. It means people die like chickens in Nigeria. Lol. If things continue like this, it means that over 90% of everyone below 30 years will die before 60 years. This is exactly what this means. So, what are we saying? If Nigerians arent dying like fowls and with the rate the north is producing kids, we should be over 600 million now. But people die like fowls in Naija. Even the rich. Take for instance how Isiaka Adeleke died. Pram! Look at the way Mohbad passed too. "Some nurses shook both injections". E craze oooo. Na naija for you. Solution: go and get at least one plot. With this, you can feed your family at least 80% organic food. This is what I have been teaching free of charge my friends and relatives. And many people are getting better. I am giving you the tip here, so go use it. I cannot teach everyone cos I will be worked out. Even on half plot of land, you can grow different green vegetables and fruits like watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes, onions. carrots, pawpaw, banana, plantain, etc. Go buy raw cassava and supervise its conversion to garri. Also, go buy enough yam from raw farmers you know dont use chemicals and process into powder yourself - amala, poundo yam etc. The rest are so hard. All grains ...chai. However, I still know some farmers I buy grains from. There are researches IITA did on growing some grains using bio approach rather than chemicals. For example groundnuts, maize, and some crops...there is something called aflotoxin (a poison) in them caused by some pathogens in the soil. And its so rampant in our soil, it is why groundnuts from nigeria cannot easily enter many EU nations too. And then, our maize...I pity people ooo. Chai. So, there is a laboratory made fungi IITA developed that once spread in the soil will fight the bad ones so the harvest can be okay for consumption. Just imagine... the feed of chickens, livestocks are made from maize. Lol. All eggs in Nigeria are rubbish. Chickens eat the toxins and plus antibiotics farmers use..and pass them to you. I pity those who eat those old layer live chickens. Ha! That is do bad. So, i buy some of these inputs and give to farmers who i work with and they grow for me. Do they cheat me? Yes, I know they do. Do I care? Nope. All i want is like 10 bags of each grains i eat annually so I can share with my close family members. So, the loss there is part of the cost of production. As long as I dont catch you using chemicals when I have paid you well, no wahala. And I test the products too when I feel there is a foul play. So, tell me who can do what I am doing. Who? But when you are abroad, you can just walk to the grocery stores shelves and buy organic products, or you can go to where they sell them if not from grocery stores. Just know that if you pay $1 for inorganic, you may pay $8 for organic. So that if you spend $500 for inorganic food a month, you may spend $4,000+ for quality organic. It is well with you all. If you can produce your own poultry meat, eggs, vegetables, and some fruits, you have solved about 65%. Goodluck to you all.
How did the abroad people get to have organic foods but we don't?
Was it by advocacy of ordinary citizens, working on their lawmakers? Was it not an ordinary lawmaker who convinced Britons to abolish slave trade, even though the royal family was involved?
Do you now have a better solution for organic food availability in Nigeria, or not

COMPAQ: In as opposition is 2 or more parties, its already a failure. APC will win. The only opposition that can work is a united one, like the 2015 election opposition. For 2027, the opposition needs to bring Atiku, Obi, makinde, Amaechi, kankwaso under one umbrella. But opposition should not win just for the sake of changing government. What will they do differerntly? That has never been stated clearly and articulaltely. Not even by Obi, who has been going around talking everywhere a microphone is available. Left to me, if there is no clear economic strategy, corruption reduction measure etc, I will vote APC, becuause even though I am not a fan of APC or Tinubu, I'll rather the devil I know than the one I don't know. Tinubu has done well in: Road rehabilitation and reconstruction nationwide Oil and Gas Reforms, the best in over 30 years Exchange rate stability Improved electricity generation and availability Tax Reforms Trade Surplus Enabling Dangote refinery to stabilise operations Solid Mineral Reforms NELFUND Petrol subsidy removal - as painful as it has been, its the right thing to do for Nigeria's long term survival. Wasting money burning a fossil fuel was ruinous, particulalry as we needed to borrow for the subsidy. Exchange rate subsidy removal - as painful as it's been, its also the fight thing to do for Nigeria's long term survival. Too much business was based on getting dollars from CBN and selling on the parallel market.
The opposition have no strategy or economic blueprint that surpasses all these, so what exactly do they want to come and do in power?
The opposition politicians that gave Nigeria prosperity, peace and security with cheap petrol, cheap dollars, low debt burden for 16 years before Tinubu begged Buhari to make Jonathan a one term president?

anonimi: NUT commends Oyo over recruitment of 19,500 teachers
The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde-led government for recruiting 19,500 teachers in five years.
The union, in a statement signed by the NUT Chairman, Oladimeji Raji and the Secretary, Salami Olukayode, noted that the appointment of 5,000 teachers in his first term and 14,500 since the inception of his second term into the state primary and secondary schools was noteworthy.
The union said the ripple effects of the recruitment were that it would address the problems of inadequate manpower in the education sector and promote teaching and learning.
The statement read, “Your disposition towards turning the tide of the education system of Oyo State remains unprecedented and unmatched not only in the annals of recruitment history of our dear state in recent times but also across the entire 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
“Your Excellency Sir, your achievements in the education sector since assumption of office particularly, on the successful recruitment of over 14,000 qualified teaching professionals and about 3,500 non- teaching personnel, aside from an appreciative number of caregivers is a clear cut and a perfect reflection of your results-oriented style of leadership aimed at providing free, qualitative and quantitative education to the amiable citizens of Oyo State. This gesture shall, without doubt, have a significant touch in our classroom and as well enhance educational service delivery to our school children.”

Nigeria’s ‘Biggest Economic Threat’ Is Unemployment, But Data to Guide Policy Missing for 14 Months
Nigeria’s top economic risk for the 2026 economic year is unemployment but the country has not published any official labour statistics to measure its rate since November 2024, FIJ has found.
On Wednesday, the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report identified lack of economic opportunity and unemployment as Nigeria’s leading threat for the 2026 economic year.
The report also identified inadequate public services, economic downturn, inequality, and crime as the next four threats to economic stability in 2026.
Unemployment is serious enough for international observers but the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has not released Nigeria’s Labour Force statistics, however controversial, since the second quarter of 2024.
SILENCE SINCE METHODOLOGY REDESIGN The NBS has been in the crossfire before for publishing Labour Force Data late in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, the bureau attributed the delay to an overhaul of its survey methodology.
At the time, NBS said it wanted to align Nigeria’s labour statistics with international best practices and ensure data quality and sustainability.
But the resulting data caused chaos. According to the NFLS published at that time (q1, 2024), only about 4.3% of Nigerians were unemployed. The data introduced new types of labour categorisation in the report.
Per the new method, anyone who works even minimal hours in a week is considered “employed”. The reliability of official figures was questioned by labour unions, business groups and even economists.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), for instance, described the reported employment statistics as unrealistic. Chris Onyeka, the NLC’s National Assistant General Secretary, called the report a “voodoo document” and a “fabrication designed to mislead the public”.
Similarly, Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), said, “The technical improvement in the employment rate is more of a way that employment is now calculated; but the reality is that the economy is not looking like an economy where unemployment is significantly reducing.”
Since then, the NBS has not made any attempt to publish labour data.

How can we resist A-looter Propaganda Congress, APC if the opposition is not united as they were disunited in 2023, and if they do not focus on Tinubu's failure to do what he said he would do once he hits the ground running after fighting to grab power
Deltafirstson: Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.
In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.
Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.
Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.
At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.
However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.
FSBoperator: Flash floods happen and are due to an unprecedented level of heavy rain bursts within a very short period.
The volume of water thus rises sharply and overwhelms the flood canals .
At this time of the year, the canals are already busting at their limits not just from Abuja rains but because most of the drainage canals are not artificial but naturally formed and are part of a very complex network of natural damages, streams carrying waters from beyond Abuja and flowing through it down to the River Niger basin.
The canals are already overwhelmed not just from rains over Abuja but rains upstream from other states .
Torrential bursts of rain will overwhelm the already high water levels of these canals .
And FYI , all cities the world over drain excess flood waters into natural basin's and drainage canals.
This has nothing to do with urban planning but a natural disaster due to the super El Nino that is bringing heavy rains over the south and north central parts of Nigeria.
Stop blaming Wike for this natural disaster.
Why are you forgetting to share verifiable data on rainfall in Abuja over the years, so that we know you are not a balablu bulaba master strategist in propaganda lies, which is Tinubu’s specialty
What El-Rufai restored in Abuja with order, planning and discipline, Wike is now destroying with noise, land deals and reckless concrete politics.
Roads cannot replace green areas. Bridges cannot excuse broken waterways.
flokii: Wike should be called to order.. he is risking the lives of Abuja residents through his reckless actions. Reports have it that all the drainage pathways and green areas in Abuja have been sold off by Wike and buildings are being erected in those areas. This is totally unacceptable and a recipe for disaster in future.. apart from flooding, earth tremors, earthquakes and other natural disasters can start happening. Let's not forget the climate change wahala, the global warming and melting of ice caps.
Wike should not endanger people's lives because of money. Abuja's master plan must be adhered to and all land approvals issued on the green areas in the FCT should be revoked. The unenlightened ones might be asking, is it not flood, what is the big deal?.. It's a big deal because it poses serious health risks and can spread life-threatening disease through spread of microbes, medical wastes, wastes from landfills and other harmful chemicals and substances that might be injurious to human health.
Instead of selling up all the lands in Abuja, neighboring border towns like Suleja, Dikko, Nasarawa, etc. should be opened up to investors and link roads built to those places. It doesn't make sense to build luxury in one place only to end up with tegrets when disaster hits. Safety first.
Do you expect the master strategist to call him out after all the things he has done to help Jagaban in Osun and elsewhere
iwaeda: Wike Boasts Of Helping APC Use Judiciary To Kill Osun LG Funds Case, Warns Party Leaders Against Ingratitude
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly boasted that he assisted certain elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in deploying the judiciary to frustrate the Osun State local government allocation lawsuit.
In a video now circulating widely on social media and obtained by SaharaReporters, Wike made the claim while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The former Rivers governor accused the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of benefitting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without knowing those who did the work behind the scenes.
The suit in question led to the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a development widely seen as targeting the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as opposition in the state.
Wike, who spoke angrily, suggested that the court action supporting the APC’s position against the Osun government did not happen by chance, boasting that powerful political forces worked quietly to ensure the outcome.
“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted,” Wike warned, in an apparent message to APC leaders defending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “You have to be careful about the statements you make. You have to be very careful.”
He accused Basiru of political ingratitude, claiming the APC was enjoying in Osun State without understanding who engineered their advantage.
“Today, you are enjoying in Osun. You don’t know those who did the work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State.”

NLCreator: Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has defended the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for members of the national assembly.
There have been reports that the leadership of the 10th national assembly has bought SUVs for all lawmakers.
Each SUV is said to be valued at N160 million.
The LP had asked members of the party in the national assembly to kick against “wastage”.
While responding to questions during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra said the SUVs are not personal cars of the lawmakers, noting that they are for official use.
“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the house. I have actually discussed this issue with them,” Obi said.
“Surprisingly, I can tell you I heard that these vehicles are official cars. They have to use it. It is meant for office.
“So it is not as if it is their vehicle. They said it is official cars and you are meant to use it while you are in the senate.”
Obi also hinted at contesting for the country’s number one position in 2027, adding that Nigeria deserves dedicated and visionary leaders who will lead the country towards a brighter future.

Ofunaofu: Report: Current Govt Added More Debt in Two Years Than Nigeria Accumulated in 55 Years
• Decries Nigeria’s debt service-to-revenue ratio
•Urges FG to declare fiscal emergency
A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.
The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings. > > According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.
The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.
The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.
“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.
It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.

Jul 11, 2014.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.
According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.

chisomkachy: Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.
The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.
Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.
Mccullum: Do you know how many schools Tinubu rebuilt to upstairs for more accommodations for pupils and students.
These are facts not fictions, According to the Federal Ministry of Education’s Annual School Census, the Lagos State government owns approximately 19% of all primary and secondary schools in Lagos.
#The overwhelming majority (81%) are non-state, privately owned institutions. However, because government-owned schools are typically much larger in capacity, they accommodate roughly 43% of the total student enrollment in the state.
Why are you quoting data that is different from what the commissioner shared? How come you know the situation differently from how the commissioner knows it
anonimi: Ratio of public to private schools in Lagos State is one to 22 ― Commissioner
The Lagos State government has said the ratio of public to private schools at both primary and secondary school levels in the state is one to 22.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, gave the revelation in her remark at the 2022 edition of the Total School Support Seminar Exhibition (TOSSE) held at Oregun in Ikeja between Thursday and Friday.
chrisxxx: For me I think Atiku becoming the president of Nigeria is no longer feasible. I also believe he has some gains in contesting every presidential election otherwise there is just no need this time around. His biggest chances were in 2002 when the PDP governors rooted for him and in 2022 where he would have used Wike as his running mate but he listened to Okowa and his group.
Amaechi is liked everywhere except at home. Amechi cant deliver any South South state. He cant deliver South East as far as there is Obi on the ballot. This condition also applies to Makinde. For me it is over.
You are right about 2003 being Atiku's best chance but he blew it up by being loyal to Obasanjo instead of throwing the ingrate under the bus. He could have succumbed to northern pressure to make Obasanjo a one term president as he promised to be like Mandela in 1999 when they made the bankrupt ex-convict president.
2003 was the first time Buhari asked for the job of president but was rejected even though he locked down northern votes since then until 2015 when Tinubu begged him to make Jonathan a one term president.
aieromon: According to sources available to us that time, Obasanjo said he will do a single term but after that, he decided to go for second term. I was physically present at Rivers state Governor’s Lodge when the heat became too much and Obasanjo in the presence of all of us knelt down in front of Atiku begging him to allow him do a second term. I think that was how Atiku missed the opportunity by agreeing to Obasanjo’s plea. His thought was that at least, if Obasanjo completes his second term, he will hand over to him but you all know the story of Third Term Agenda and that was how they fell apart. Atiku had the best opportunity to become president in 2003 and lost it. He had the support of PDP governors then.
Around November 2002, 15 of the 21 Governors from the PDP including me, had an ad hoc meeting at my lodge in Abuja to decide who should be nominated by the Governors Committee for election by PDP as the presidential nominee for the 2003 Election.
The Governors Committee decided almost unanimously to get a new candidate instead of President Obasanjo as the Committee was of the view that because of his military background, he was intolerant of dissent and had displayed very dictatorial and vindictive tendencies against those he perceived to be independent-minded and disloyal to him.
Immediately after the Governors meeting, I led the delegation of Governors to meet the then PDP Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, at his residence around 2 am.
As the leader of the delegation, I spoke and communicated the views of the Governors to the Chairman, which was that the Governors had decided not to support President Obasanjo as PDPs nominee for the 2003 General Election.
The party chairman tried to persuade us to review our decision but when he saw our resolve, he told us that he would inform the President. I was later informed by Chief Audu Ogbeh that after we left his house he put an urgent call to the President and informed him of our decision.
What then followed were intense consultations before the PDP annual convention which took place in January 2003. Two days before the party convention, the Governors had a breakfast meeting with President Obasanjo.
I recall that at that meeting, the then Vice President Alhaji Abubakar Atiku told the President in the presence of the Governors that he was known to be very dictatorial, vindictive and unforgiving. The President appealed to the Governors to support him and assured both the Governors and the party leadership that if he was allowed to continue for the second term, he would adopt a more democratic approach.
On the basis of the President's assurance, given at that breakfast meeting, I led the move for the Governors to support his presidential nomination for the second term. However, notwithstanding my support for President Obasanjo's nomination for a second term, the President after the nomination, acted very shabbily towards me.
When I met him soon after the convention, he told me that he had learned that I had put forward the view that he was unsellable, unmarketable and unelectable. He then vowed that he was going to make sure that I was unsellable, unmarketable and unelectable.

According to Adesanya, Atiku met the governors the first day of the convention; they urged him to leave Obasanjo and seek the nomination himself. Atiku demurred; he also deflected the suggestion that he join Ekwueme. Finally, Atiku arranged a meeting between Obasanjo and the now irate governors. The governors railed that Obasanjo was hypocritically pursuing them for corruption, while turning a blind eye to corrupt politicians within his own Administration. Atiku supported the governor's position, telling Obasanjo that significant corruption was not the exclusive ambit of the governors and that serious transgressions occurred in the executive branch: he said it would be unjust to focus exclusively on gubernatorial excesses. Assuming the role of mediator, Atiku then asked both sides to affirm their mutual support and cease the antagonism being fueled by elements that wanted to destroy the PDP. The governors agreed to bury the hatchet, if Obasanjo would shelve the dossiers. Having demonstrated his influence with the governors, Atiku continued to play coy with Obasanjo.
In the end, Atiku extracted an extraordinary concession from the President. Obasanjo agreed to relinquish the entire domestic agenda to Atiku, including the appointment of key economic policy-makers. Since Obasanjo focused on the world arena during his first term and aspired for recognition as an international statesman, Atiku said that is where he would like Obasanjo's attentions to remain. Obasanjo would serve the role of a "super Foreign Minister" and ceremonial Head of State. As Adesanya understood the agreement, Atiku would be allowed to direct domestic economic policy while Obasanjo busied himself with debt relief, NEPAD, conflict resolution and other measures to shore up Nigeria's image abroad.

The President was dazed, Abayomi recalled. Jarred by the unexpected possibility of defeat, the usually know-it-all Obasanjo eagerly solicited counsel on how to escape the closing vise. Early that day, the dominant theme was to seek a court injunction postponing the convention. Proponents suggested the delay to afford Obasanjo time to marshal support and undermine Ekwueme's momentum. However, this idea was ultimately discarded, partially because of apprehension over the public's reaction. More importantly, the push for an injunction became less urgent when the President's advisors began to sense their man was regaining ground by the hour.
The President owed much of his recovery to his own tenacity and, at times, shamelessness. He pulled out virtually all the stops to clinch the nomination, according to Abayomi. For most of that day, the President's diet consisted of liberal portions of humble pie. The President pleaded and cajoled; on at least two occasions his eyes welled with emotion as he pursued fence-sitting delegates and governors. However, Obasanjo saved his best to keep Vice President Atiku from defecting.
With rumor swirling that Atiku would opt to run with Ekwueme, Obasanjo wasted no time visiting the Vice President's residence. Obasanjo begged, declaring he would not leave Atiku's home unless the Vice President accompanied him to win back the delegates and governors. The performance had the desired effect. Atiku joined Obasanjo in publicly lobbying the conventioneers. While it might not have been Obasanjo's finest hour it was the defining moment of the convention. What had been a suspenseful contest would now turn into a rout.
Day169: The more one thinks of it, the more tricky it becomes to have a united opposition. If your postulate is anything to go by, two questions become paramount. 1. What's in for the NDC and their flag bearers as their candidates are not mentioned in this mix. 2. President Obasanjo as an arrow head of the coalition puts it's success in doubt as he is a staunch opponent of his former vice. The whole thing is fast looking like trying to make a solution of oil and water as it's constituents seem 'immiscible'!
NDC is a dummy for Kwankwaso's 2031 hopes of succeeding Tinubu if the master strategist fails to get a 3rd term for life president as Obasanjo failed in 2007, because Atiku chose to be loyal with the constitution and worked with other democracy heroes to kill the bill in the NASS despite Ghana must go bags of bribes.
ChemmyNaija: A renewed push for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections may be laying the groundwork for an Atiku Abubakar–Seyi Makinde presidential ticket, potentially displacing former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi from the vice-presidential slot he is understood to have secured.
SM would be a good running mate to the brainbox of PDP's deregulation and privatisation driven 16 years of prosperity, peace and security.
Amaechi could be made the SFG, when the coalition wins.
