Parachoko: Government should stop paying subsidy for people on Band B and C
Why should the government continue subsidising Tinubu and family's luxury lifestyle, from our akara sellers' taxes?
chisomkachy: Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.
The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.
Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.
Mccullum: Do you know how many schools Tinubu rebuilt to upstairs for more accommodations for pupils and students.
These are facts not fictions, According to the Federal Ministry of Education’s Annual School Census, the Lagos State government owns approximately 19% of all primary and secondary schools in Lagos.
#The overwhelming majority (81%) are non-state, privately owned institutions. However, because government-owned schools are typically much larger in capacity, they accommodate roughly 43% of the total student enrollment in the state.
Why are you quoting data that is different from what the commissioner shared? How come you know the situation differently from how the commissioner knows it
anonimi: Ratio of public to private schools in Lagos State is one to 22 ― Commissioner
The Lagos State government has said the ratio of public to private schools at both primary and secondary school levels in the state is one to 22.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, gave the revelation in her remark at the 2022 edition of the Total School Support Seminar Exhibition (TOSSE) held at Oregun in Ikeja between Thursday and Friday.
chrisxxx: For me I think Atiku becoming the president of Nigeria is no longer feasible. I also believe he has some gains in contesting every presidential election otherwise there is just no need this time around. His biggest chances were in 2002 when the PDP governors rooted for him and in 2022 where he would have used Wike as his running mate but he listened to Okowa and his group.
Amaechi is liked everywhere except at home. Amechi cant deliver any South South state. He cant deliver South East as far as there is Obi on the ballot. This condition also applies to Makinde. For me it is over.
You are right about 2003 being Atiku's best chance but he blew it up by being loyal to Obasanjo instead of throwing the ingrate under the bus. He could have succumbed to northern pressure to make Obasanjo a one term president as he promised to be like Mandela in 1999 when they made the bankrupt ex-convict president.
2003 was the first time Buhari asked for the job of president but was rejected even though he locked down northern votes since then until 2015 when Tinubu begged him to make Jonathan a one term president.
aieromon: According to sources available to us that time, Obasanjo said he will do a single term but after that, he decided to go for second term. I was physically present at Rivers state Governor’s Lodge when the heat became too much and Obasanjo in the presence of all of us knelt down in front of Atiku begging him to allow him do a second term. I think that was how Atiku missed the opportunity by agreeing to Obasanjo’s plea. His thought was that at least, if Obasanjo completes his second term, he will hand over to him but you all know the story of Third Term Agenda and that was how they fell apart. Atiku had the best opportunity to become president in 2003 and lost it. He had the support of PDP governors then.
Around November 2002, 15 of the 21 Governors from the PDP including me, had an ad hoc meeting at my lodge in Abuja to decide who should be nominated by the Governors Committee for election by PDP as the presidential nominee for the 2003 Election.
The Governors Committee decided almost unanimously to get a new candidate instead of President Obasanjo as the Committee was of the view that because of his military background, he was intolerant of dissent and had displayed very dictatorial and vindictive tendencies against those he perceived to be independent-minded and disloyal to him.
Immediately after the Governors meeting, I led the delegation of Governors to meet the then PDP Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, at his residence around 2 am.
As the leader of the delegation, I spoke and communicated the views of the Governors to the Chairman, which was that the Governors had decided not to support President Obasanjo as PDPs nominee for the 2003 General Election.
The party chairman tried to persuade us to review our decision but when he saw our resolve, he told us that he would inform the President. I was later informed by Chief Audu Ogbeh that after we left his house he put an urgent call to the President and informed him of our decision.
What then followed were intense consultations before the PDP annual convention which took place in January 2003. Two days before the party convention, the Governors had a breakfast meeting with President Obasanjo.
I recall that at that meeting, the then Vice President Alhaji Abubakar Atiku told the President in the presence of the Governors that he was known to be very dictatorial, vindictive and unforgiving. The President appealed to the Governors to support him and assured both the Governors and the party leadership that if he was allowed to continue for the second term, he would adopt a more democratic approach.
On the basis of the President's assurance, given at that breakfast meeting, I led the move for the Governors to support his presidential nomination for the second term. However, notwithstanding my support for President Obasanjo's nomination for a second term, the President after the nomination, acted very shabbily towards me.
When I met him soon after the convention, he told me that he had learned that I had put forward the view that he was unsellable, unmarketable and unelectable. He then vowed that he was going to make sure that I was unsellable, unmarketable and unelectable.

According to Adesanya, Atiku met the governors the first day of the convention; they urged him to leave Obasanjo and seek the nomination himself. Atiku demurred; he also deflected the suggestion that he join Ekwueme. Finally, Atiku arranged a meeting between Obasanjo and the now irate governors. The governors railed that Obasanjo was hypocritically pursuing them for corruption, while turning a blind eye to corrupt politicians within his own Administration. Atiku supported the governor's position, telling Obasanjo that significant corruption was not the exclusive ambit of the governors and that serious transgressions occurred in the executive branch: he said it would be unjust to focus exclusively on gubernatorial excesses. Assuming the role of mediator, Atiku then asked both sides to affirm their mutual support and cease the antagonism being fueled by elements that wanted to destroy the PDP. The governors agreed to bury the hatchet, if Obasanjo would shelve the dossiers. Having demonstrated his influence with the governors, Atiku continued to play coy with Obasanjo.
In the end, Atiku extracted an extraordinary concession from the President. Obasanjo agreed to relinquish the entire domestic agenda to Atiku, including the appointment of key economic policy-makers. Since Obasanjo focused on the world arena during his first term and aspired for recognition as an international statesman, Atiku said that is where he would like Obasanjo's attentions to remain. Obasanjo would serve the role of a "super Foreign Minister" and ceremonial Head of State. As Adesanya understood the agreement, Atiku would be allowed to direct domestic economic policy while Obasanjo busied himself with debt relief, NEPAD, conflict resolution and other measures to shore up Nigeria's image abroad.
OBJ camp - visit Wikileaks and type the following in the search bar NIGERIA: DIFFERENT INSIDER VIEWS ON THE PDP CONVENTION
The President was dazed, Abayomi recalled. Jarred by the unexpected possibility of defeat, the usually know-it-all Obasanjo eagerly solicited counsel on how to escape the closing vise. Early that day, the dominant theme was to seek a court injunction postponing the convention. Proponents suggested the delay to afford Obasanjo time to marshal support and undermine Ekwueme's momentum. However, this idea was ultimately discarded, partially because of apprehension over the public's reaction. More importantly, the push for an injunction became less urgent when the President's advisors began to sense their man was regaining ground by the hour.
The President owed much of his recovery to his own tenacity and, at times, shamelessness. He pulled out virtually all the stops to clinch the nomination, according to Abayomi. For most of that day, the President's diet consisted of liberal portions of humble pie. The President pleaded and cajoled; on at least two occasions his eyes welled with emotion as he pursued fence-sitting delegates and governors. However, Obasanjo saved his best to keep Vice President Atiku from defecting.
With rumor swirling that Atiku would opt to run with Ekwueme, Obasanjo wasted no time visiting the Vice President's residence. Obasanjo begged, declaring he would not leave Atiku's home unless the Vice President accompanied him to win back the delegates and governors. The performance had the desired effect. Atiku joined Obasanjo in publicly lobbying the conventioneers. While it might not have been Obasanjo's finest hour it was the defining moment of the convention. What had been a suspenseful contest would now turn into a rout.
Day169: The more one thinks of it, the more tricky it becomes to have a united opposition. If your postulate is anything to go by, two questions become paramount. 1. What's in for the NDC and their flag bearers as their candidates are not mentioned in this mix. 2. President Obasanjo as an arrow head of the coalition puts it's success in doubt as he is a staunch opponent of his former vice. The whole thing is fast looking like trying to make a solution of oil and water as it's constituents seem 'immiscible'!
NDC is a dummy for Kwankwaso's 2031 hopes of succeeding Tinubu if the master strategist fails to get a 3rd term for life president as Obasanjo failed in 2007, because Atiku chose to be loyal with the constitution and worked with other democracy heroes to kill the bill in the NASS despite Ghana must go bags of bribes.
ChemmyNaija: A renewed push for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections may be laying the groundwork for an Atiku Abubakar–Seyi Makinde presidential ticket, potentially displacing former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi from the vice-presidential slot he is understood to have secured.
SM would be a good running mate to the brainbox of PDP's deregulation and privatisation driven 16 years of prosperity, peace and security.
Amaechi could be made the SFG, when the coalition wins.

Racoon: Festus Keyamo Defends Tinubu From Drug Trafficking, Says Tinubu Mistakenly Shared Flats With Drug Lords
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo, has distanced the All Progressive Congress presidential candidata, Bola Tinubu, from being a drug baron who was involved in the traffic of narcotics in the United States.
Keyamo, who also doubles as APC Presidential Campaign spokesperson, noted that the former governor of Lagos State only shared a block of flat with drug barons about 30 years ago in the US.
His reaction is coming following documents of a Chicago District Court indicting and convicting Tinubu of drug dealings and money laundering in 1993.
The document which emerged online two days ago, described APC standard-bearer as a drug baron, adding that Tinubu entered a plea bargain, leading to the forfeiture of his assets to US authorities in 1993
It was also pointed out that Tinubu forfeited the sum of $460, 000 dollars in his bank account at First Heritage Bank to the US government.
Speaking on Wednesday on Channels TV, Mr Keyamo dismissed such claims, insisting that Tinubu was linked to drug peddlers who were his neighbours.
He said: “What happened was that Tinubu went to open an account. The address which he used in opening the account was the address used by these people. I think some blocks of flats. Maybe, he was happy to be in that block of flats too.
“So, they now link it that the other people they were investigating for narcotics are in the same address used by Asiwaju to open that account.’’
The senior lawyer sounds so intelligent until you check his doings against his sayings. Can you imagine how he bragged about fixing power in six months once we replace PDP prosperity, peace and security with APC extreme poverty and insecurity shege, only to turn around and be doing balablu bulaba lame excuses after we gave them the chance to implement their positive change.
anonimi: Fashola to Nigerians: 'If You Want to Have Stable Electricity Supply, Vote PDP Out in 2015'
Jul 11, 2014.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.
According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.
"Yes I agree with you that it is possible to generate electricity and to make sure that everybody in this country has electricity, we have to do the right thing. But you know what, the only way that you and I will have electricity in this country will be to vote out the PDP.
Mccullum: Every thing you mentioned Tinubu upgraded in Lagos State. Go and check his record Jakande tried by laying foundation of these infrastructures that are mostly substandard while Tinubu made them to be standard.

Where have you been buying petrol for less than N185, the price it was in January 2023 when the master strategist of balablu bulaba progreThief politics said he would crash the price?
Let's start from that, shall we
Deltafirstson: Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.
In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.
Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.
Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.
At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.
However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.
“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

WATER is central to human existence.A populous city cannot do without this all-important commodity. To ensure free-flow of water in the mega city, the Lagos State Government has unveiled first phase of the Adiyan Water Works, with a capacity for 70million gallon of water.
Work on the second phase which also has a capacity for 70million gallon of water delay begun. Other water works in Eti-Osa, has to expand among others, have a combined capacity of 593million gallons of water by 2020 when the Lagos population suspected the hit 29million.
If met, the target would give a surplus of 12 million gallons of water. @ @ Lagos State Water Corporation (LASWC) Group Managing Director Mr. Shayo Holloway, said the plan was aimed at meeting the water needs of the emerging mega-city, especially the first phase, which has 15 additional mini-water works, with only five yet to be inaugurated.
According to Holloway, the expansion is influenced by population. @ @ The corporation, however, urged consumers to tap into its mains instead of patronising water vendors. “Although we realised that there are some areas that are yet to be connected, by the end of 2015, when we must have fully completed the water mains expansion project, most of the areas that are yet to be connected would have the opportunity,” Holloway added. @ @ Fashola said the water projects, which the administration was implementing, would take the state to the level of sustainable and efficient water supply.
“Currently, there are reticulation contracts that have been issued, including pipe networks and pipelines being laid across the state to receive the supply of water when it is done. The planned expansion at Adiyan, which has been on the drawing board since the 1970s, is expected to give the state 70 million gallons of water per day which is the combined capacity of all the mini water works and micro water works,” the governor said, adding that the Adiyan expansion would help the government to serve areas, such as Iju, Agege, Mushin and Ilupeju.
Willy2025: This is great and commendable. There is a joker, who wants to be President of Nigeria under a non-existent party called NDC that could not boast of one tenth of this throughout his 8 years tenure as a governor. This is part of the enduring legacy of PBAT.
The enduring legacy of president aBAT in Lagos, is that of reckless looting of the 100 times budget growth to N4.2 trillion without employing well paid workers to make water available to all households.
Can Tinubu and his successors of the past 27 years boast of one tenth of what UPN progressive governor Jakande did in just four years before Buhari jailed him for corruption, after his only successful coup against democratic institutions at local, state and federal levels 43 years ago?
Splashme: The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.
Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.
The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.
Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”
The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.
Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.
He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

WHO SAYS 4 YEARS IN OFFICE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS?
IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.
TEEJHEY: A very good development and highly commendable
Would you say that a better development is the employment of well paid nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, physicians etc to improve the ratios of healthcare professionals to the population and stop the master plan Lagos landlord from medical tourism abroad
Racoon: Britain is also doing the same. So, why are they bent on fleecing immigrants before putting them in economic bondage?
Why Canada? After all these strenuous effort people put to JAPA? Then these white supremacists will just come wawa the parade for you. What the hell mean.
What manner of hypocrisy is this from a tribalistic person who uses zoning and rotation to share our national cake of corruption at local, state and federal levels?
Instead of the misplaced efforts to japa, why not use the same energy to make our own family members and friends do right by the people who pay taxes to generate revenue for governments?

Did Tinubu help him by seizing local government money for several months, or by asking APC’s agberos in NURTW to destroy the state just as APC invited terrorists to destroy our country, before Tinubu begged Buhari out of retirement to make Jonathan a one term president?
Politics is truly deeper than what YOU see on the surface.

5 mind-boggling revelations from Obasanjo’s ‘My Watch’
5. Tinubu was one of the most corrupt, of the 36 governors
Obasanjo never got along too well with former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu, and unsurprisingly, Tinubu got a mention in the former’s book. Obasanjo revealed that then EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu tried to investigate almost all the state governors during his tenure but that of the 28 confirmed to be manifestly corrupt or tainted one way or the other, Tinubu’s case was one of the worst.
Lagos — ABIA State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and his Lagos State counterpart, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not escape justice but would be made to face the full wrath of the law following their recent indictment for alleged corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Chairman of the commission Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who made the vow yesterday said the duo must account for their stewardship and may be thrown out of office.
helinues: I just saw Obj's thread saying Adeleke should continue with the good governance.
Hahaha, Adeleke didn't win based on good governance but politics.
He probably had a secret deal with president Tinubu while the likes of Omisore, Baba Akande might have been carried along.
You see that Oyetola heh, make I no dey talk too much about him make it no be like say I get personal issue with him
Does that deal with the balablu bulaba master strategist of dictatorship include destroying the state with APC’s agbero arm of NURTW? Did the deal involve arresting the SSG and blocking the accounts of the state?
Adeleke did far better than Oyetola and APC for the people, and they were resolute in their actions against the darkness of Tinubu and his demonic politics. Adeleke would have had a bigger victory margin without the interference of Tinubu and his rigging mechanisms, before and during the election.
Olalere Oyewumi, Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), discloses that the Administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has cleared 18 months out of the 30 months of half-salary arrears inherited from the immediate past administration in Osun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC)
Svoboda: Who pass you don pass you, no matter the obstacles. Osun state is actually filled with revolutionaries. If there will be a change in power through the ballot in 2027, Osun is the inspiration. After all, it's a state that is hosting the Source.

Do you think this is the end for Jagaban of Borgu and his fellow northerners in Arewa ProgreThief Congress, APC?
anonimi: How we foiled Jonathan’s effort to make Mulika Adeola Speaker, Akande reveals
AS president in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan did all he could to ensure South West grabbed the country’s number four seat, including lobbying then opposition leaders from the zone, to no avail. The North West eventually grabbed the seat, supported by South West leaders in opposition to then ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Former Governor of Osun State and now statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, made this revelation in his autobiography, “My Participations” which is currently dominating political and national dis- course.
Aminu Tambuwal, now Sokoto State governor, won the seat, against the preferred pick of his party, Mrs Mulikat Adeola Akande, from the South-West. Defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, then a fledging opposition, which had Akande and his soulmate, former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, as front- line leaders, openly asked its elected members of the House of Representatives, mostly from the South-West, to work against their region and back Tambuwal from North-West.
The opposition party’s support carried Tambuwal through the contest against Akande, then ruling party’s favourite for the speakership seat.
In his book, Chief Akande revealed that former president then as incumbent, personally reached out to Tinubu, who is now believed to be nursing presidential aspiration in 2023 and himself, but couldn’t convince them.
He wrote, “President Jonathan, immediately after the meeting (with political parties), called Bola Tinubu aside into a lobby to broach the matter of ACN support for a choice of who would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“That same day, President Jonathan talked to me on phone about the same matter. He disclosed that PDP had zoned the position to the South-West but that only one Muraina and another Mulika won elections on PDP ticket from the zone into the House of Representatives.
saintmm: To me the difference between Tinubu and Obj is the difference between six and half a dozen. Hardly is there any adjective you can use for one that doesn't fit the other. It is so unfortunate that the real brains in southwest couldn't get to rule Nigeria.
To answer your question, it was a result of being subsumed on self-centeredness that made Obj made that mistake against Jonathan. He never envisaged Tinubu climbing this high.
Obasanjo is not as bad as Tinubu is in economic reforms and corruption.
Did Obasanjo increase our debt burden when he and Atiku gave us cheap petrol, cheap dollars, low unemployment, prosperity, peace and security?
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun made this known at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja. Mr. Edun said that the benefit of the subsidy removal will be plough back into various sectors to improve business environment for local and foreign investment. He added that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.
Ofunaofu: Report: Current Govt Added More Debt in Two Years Than Nigeria Accumulated in 55 Years
• Decries Nigeria’s debt service-to-revenue ratio
•Urges FG to declare fiscal emergency
A new policy brief has warned that Nigeria’s worsening debt profile and weak revenue generation have pushed the country into a dangerous fiscal position, with the current administration accumulating more debt in two years than Nigeria recorded during its first 55 years after independence.
The report, released by the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics LTD/GTE, a Nigerian policy think tank, argued that the country’s debt crisis has evolved into a governance and revenue emergency, as debt servicing obligations now exceed the federal government’s retained earnings. > > According to the think tank, Nigeria’s public debt rose sharply from N87.38 trillion in June 2023 to N159.28 trillion by the end of 2025, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration accounting for about N65.9 trillion of the increase within its first two years in office.
The organisation in the brief titled: “Nigeria Is Borrowing to Breathe—and the Clock Is Ticking”, noted that Nigeria accumulated only about N12.06 trillion in debt from independence in 1960 up to 2015, meaning the current administration added more than five times that amount in just 24 months.
The report stated that while previous governments also contributed significantly to the country’s rising debt burden, the speed of accumulation under the current administration had intensified concerns over fiscal sustainability.
“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added a further N65.9 trillion in just two years. To put that in perspective: it took Nigeria’s first 55 years of independence to accumulate N12 trillion in debt. The current administration has added more than five times that amount in 24 months,” it argued.
It recalled that Nigeria briefly became almost debt-free externally after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured an $18 billion Paris Club debt relief package in 2005 and paid $12 billion to extinguish about $30 billion in external obligations.
