Edo lawmaker Adams Oshiomhole has doubled down on his allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, claiming the latter has a personal conflict of interest in protecting the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) from scrutiny.
The claims came after the Senate distanced itself from Oshiomhole’s strong criticism of the NNPCL during a Public Accounts Committee session. Oshiomhole had sharply criticised the company over the alleged ₦210 trillion audit queries covering the period from 2017 to 2023 and supported an arrest warrant against former boss Mele Kyari over his repeated failure to appear before the committee.

However, the Senate later voided the warrant and rebuked the language used during the proceedings.

Following the condemnation, Oshiomhole during plenary insisted that many senators privately support his push for accountability and stood by his position while responding to the Senate leadership’s reaction.

Speaking in a recent interview, Oshiomhole accused former NNPCL Group CEO Mele Kyari of employing Akpabio’s daughter in a senior “juicy position” without following due process or merit-based recruitment.

He described it as preferential treatment, suggesting this explains Akpabio’s role in shielding the oil company during the ongoing probe.

He said: “Myself inclusive. The second is my response to the former chief financial controller of NNPC, whose tenure the investigation covers, who pointedly said to the committee that it is you people. And now I know that the Senate President said his daughter was taken by Mele Kyari and put in a, well as Nigerians we say, in a juicy position that he probably didn’t merit.”

He further argued that such practices are not isolated, but reflective of a broader pattern within the national oil company.

Oshiomhole expanded his criticism to systemic nepotism in NNPCL, accusing past and present leadership of turning the organisation into a structure dominated by family connections.

Kenneth Okonkwo Fell Out With Peter Obi Over House Rent Money — Dr. Katch Ononuju 

Dr. Katch Ononuju has launched a scathing att@ck on lawyer and activist Kenneth Okonkwo, alleging that money and a request for house rent support were at the centre of the fallout between the actor-turned-politician and members of the Obidient movement.

Speaking during an interview, Ononuju claimed that Okonkwo expected more support from former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi before eventually aligning with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to him, Obi had advised Okonkwo to start modestly when seeking accommodation support.

“He said he wanted to rent a duplex, and Peter told him to start with a flat,” Ononuju said.
He further alleged that after meeting Atiku, Okonkwo received the same type of assistance he had sought earlier.

“He wanted money for a flat. When he met Atiku, he talked to Atiku. Atiku was sweet, nice, told him he would do it. Atiku still gave him money for a flat,” he stated.

Ononuju argued that the dispute between Okonkwo and members of the movement was driven by financial expectations.
“What brought trouble between him and us? Penny. Money to rent a house,” he said.

Ononuju also took aim at Okonkwo’s entertainment career, describing him as unsuccessful in the industry before venturing into politics.
“Kenneth Okonkwo is a failed entertainment entrepreneur. He was a pioneer of the Nigerian film industry, but he failed. That’s why he came to meet us in the political space,” he claimed.
